Installing Windows XP on Satellite A10 without CD/DVD drive

I want to reinstall windows xp on a Toshiba A10 and the CD Rom is dead ...
I've tryed to reinstall it from a bootable usb stick but i can't make it to boot from it.
I was thinking about that LAN boot thing.
Can I install windows from a lan pc and if a i can, can someone explain how or give me a tutorial or something?
How can i install windows from the usb stick?
Please help me i really need this to work.

Hi
It seems that the BIOS does not support booting from the USB flash drive.
The booting from LAN is possible but if you want to boot from LAN then you will need an RIS Server.
Here is a Microsoft Step-by-Step Guide to Remote OS Installation
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb742378.aspx
But to be honest I would recommend other method.
If you want to install the Win XP on the HDD then you should copy the i386 folder from the Win XP CD to HDD (you can remove the HDD from notebook and could connect it to other computer using USB controller).
Then you should go to i386 folder which you copied to HDD and should execute the setup.exe or winnt.exe
Both exe file should start the installation setup.

My superdrive have broken, anyone have experience installing windows 8 on macbook pro with external dvd drive?
Last night, I tried but end of with black screen.

Purchase new superdrive, takes 2-3 weeks for shipping at my city.
It can't be done. If your computer has an internal optical drive, working or not, that is the drive you must use. Only computers such as the Macbook Pro Retina/Macbook Air that have no internal optical drive can install Windows from an external drive.

  • How do I install 10.4 onto a computer without a DVD drive?

Can I put the DVD into a different Mac with a DVD drive, grab the software off the disk, transfer it to the mac without a DVD drive and install from there? Thanks,
    Chris

I found a way to do it from an iPod, but I dont want to do that. I have an external Firewire HD that I use for our backup drive but I dont want to whipe that.. although, I use that external drive as my boot drive on the older machine, so I guess I can just hook that external HD to our new Mac, pop in the DVD, reboot the new machine and boot off the DVD and then upgrade the older OS on the firewire. What do you think?

  • Is it possible to install Win XP on Satellite P20 w/o DVD drive?

Hi, I'm new to this support forum, but I'm hoping you can help with my problem.
Windows has become corrupt on my Satellite P20-521, yet I'm unable to use the Recovery Disc as the DVD drive has ceased functioning. I was wondering if there is any other possible method for installing the OS onto my laptop without the need for the drive. I have gotten to a stage where the harddrive is essentially formatted (due to placing the HD into another laptop and performing a windows boot that formatted and copied windows install data, however, this hasn't worked in terms of installing windows).
Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

Okay, thanks for the help and suggestions guys. With the info you gave me, I managed to think out the most awkward and roundabout method possible. I've noted it down so that others may attempt to do so in the future if they so desire.
    Process to install Windows:
Transfer HDD from Toshiba Satellite (Comp A) to Dell Latitude (Comp B)
Copy the 'i386' folder from the Windows XP CD to a USB Memory Stick
Use a DOS CD to boot into DOS on Comp B
Delete all partitions and create 2gb FAT16 partition
    Format C: Drive
    Install DOS to HDD ('XCOPY A: C:\DOS' & 'SYS A: C:')
    Remove DOS CD
    Restart
Test booting into DOS (if it doesn't work, repeat steps above or find method to remove the MBR)
    Restart
Use 'Damn Small Linux' live CD to boot into Linux
Mount HDA1 (Harddrive FAT16 partition) and SDA1 (USB Memory Stick)
Transfer the 'i386' folder from SDA1 to HDA1 using File Manager
    Restart
(Optional: Activate 'smartdrive.exe' in DOS if it's available)
Activate 'WINNT.EXE' from within i386 folder
    Follow Windows XP Installation procedure
(Note: somefiles may not be found when it's in the copying stage, this may be due to the version of Windows XP you copied the i386 folder from)
Warning! Can take numerous hours to complete without 'smartdrive.exe'.
For me, due to the only readily available disc being an 'upgraded' XP (came with lots of tools and service packs allready installed for convenience) install disc, I found files 'missing' during the file copying stage prior to actual Windows installation:
    ieframe.dll.mui
    msfeedsbs.dll
The files are part of Internet Explorer 7, and are neither crucial to installation nor the running of Windows XP.

  • How do I Install 10.4 on a G4 without a DVD drive

I have a G5 (10.5.8) and an older G4 still running 9. I would like to install 10.4 on the G4. However, It has no DVD drive. The system installation discs I have are the are the " black" version. I tried to buy a DVD burner, but the closest I can come is a DVD R/W with a 10.3 system requirement.
    Some thoughts:
    - Can I put the install discs on my G5 and target the G4 through the ethernet connection I share with it as the installation destination. If so, how is this done.
    - Can I get a CD version of the installation discs ( hopefully without paying for it again)
    - Can I copy the discs to Cd on my G5 and would they be useable
    Anyone have any ideas
    Thanks

Close, put the Install Disc in the G5, boot the G5 in to Target mode...
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Boot the G4 with the Option key held down, see if the Install Disc in the other Mac shows up as a boot choice, as the G5 is now a big expensive Firewire Disk & DVD Drive.

    Nope.

    Nope.

  • How can I format Satellite A10 PSA10C - CD/DVD drive is not working

How can I format my laptop?
The problem is that my CD-ROM is not working or it can't read any CDs.
Help me guys and btw, is it possible to format it using USB Flash Disk?
    Tnx in advance
    Model: PSA10C-035WM

I successfully restored my Toshiba 1110 with no CD Rom. The CD Rom on the Toshiba is not robust. Many of them fail. You need a copy of Windows 98 and a Copy of Windows XP. The XP you loaded on your desktop will work because the Windows Production Key should be on the bottom of your computer. You also need to buy an adapter from 40 pin to 44 pin for the EIDE cable. This will cost about $10 and will let you install the laptop HD in your desktop computer.
The problem is that you cannot Windows XP Setup unless you are in windows. You can, however, boot a Dos floppy disk. Windows XP will not run in the Toshiba unless it is set-up from inside the computer. My system involves creating a small partition on the hard drive and loading the contents of the CD into the partition then loading Windows from the partition.
    1) Use windows XP in your Desktop to create a large partition C: with the HPFS and a small partition D: (10 GB) FAT. You can pull the data cable on your desktop Hard Drive so that you don't format it in error.
    2) Copy the contents of the win98 directory on the Windows 98 disk to the same directory on the small partition. Copy the contents of the I386 directory on the XP disk to the same directory on the small partition. Copy the two Setup files from the root of the XP disk to the root of the small directory.
    3) Reinstall the Hard drive in your laptop.
    4) Boot the laptop with windows 98 or XP boot disk.
    5) Setup windows 98 from D:\win98\setup
    6) Boot window98 from D: and install Windows XP from D:\setup.
    7) Download the Lan driver from the internet then install all other drivers from the internet.

  • Installing CS6 on a MAC Airbook without a DVD drive.

My company purchased 14 copies of CS6 and I have received the software DVDs. However, I need to install a few of these copies on MAC Airbook laptops that do not have a DVD drive. I am not able to copy the contents to a server to install from there. Is there a way to install from the web and use the serial number I already paid for and received? Suggestions?

    Ms JacKAY wrote:
I wouldn’t think that the trial version would work but I’ll give that a try.
It works well since the Trial version code/features and the purchased version code/features are identical. The serial number is the only difference.
Many non-Adobe customers people run the Trial for a while then purchase a serial number and activate the installed trial without any need to re-install.

  • Installing windows xp pro on a separate internal hard drive in ntfs

Does anyone here know how to install windows xp professional on a separate internal hard drive in NTFS with bootcamp. In the bootcamp manual it says I can ,but when I reach the list of partitions in xp setup, C: Partition3<BOOTCAMP> {FAT32} Is not on the list. I called support and they told me Apple doesnt support BOOTCAMP on a separate drive and to check the forum though the manual says It can be done.

Rather easy enough to do. People install XP and Vista all the time on 2, 3rd or 4th drive in Mac Pro. I know Vista 64-bit on Mac Pro has best support for addressing RAM and drivers.

Do you have access to another Mac with a disk drive?  If so you can do it in one of two ways:
1 - on the Mac with the optical drive launch Disk Utility and make a disk image of the iLife 11 disk. Connect the two Macs together and transfer the disk image to your MacBook Air.  Mount the disk image and install from it.  I have my iLife disks saved that way for quick and easy reinstall when necessary.
2 - connect the two Mac together so you can access the MBA from the Mac with the disk drive. Insert the iLife disk, and install from the second Mac to the MBA.

  • Cannot install Windows 7 on Equium P200D-139 - CD/DVD drivers missing

    Hello all.
Hello this laptop came with Windows Vista.
I am trying to install Windows 7 - 32 Bit for my mother.
She does not have the original Toshiba DVD's so I purchased Windows 7 for her.
First I boot using the Windows 7 DVD.
Then the language selection screen is shown and selections made.
Then the +Install Now+ option is chosen.
Then the following message appears - this is verbatim:
+"A required CD/DVD device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.+
+Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive you can safely remove it for this step."+
I cannot progress beyond this point.
The Windows Vista installation is still on the laptop, and I cannot find any of the drivers that are required - sadly the driver request is not very specific. I am wondering if it is needs drivers for the hard drive?
I have been searching on the internet and cannot find any drivers that work.
Thanks in advance for any help :-)

    Hi
The CD/DVD driver is part of the Microsoft system and also available on the Windows 7 installation disk.
Therefore there are no special CD/DVD drivers available.
I read about this theme in different forums and also on Microsoft support forum and mostly this issue appear if the Windows system disk is faulty/damage.
I dont know from where you got this disk but I recommend you to download an Windows iso file from Microsoft server as mentioned here:
    http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=73726
Then you could create own Windows installation disk or USB flash memory stick
The serial key which you got with the Windows disk could be used for activation.

I would use Parallels or VMWare and use the second drive to hold the virtual machine. That way the VM only uses the space that it needs and you can still use the remainder of the drive for other things, not to mention that you would not need to reboot to run windows.
Also Time Machine does not back up a boot camp partition.
