Installing Windows XP on the Toshiba Satellite M295-S4806

When I inserted the XP w/ SP2 CD into the drive, it did recognize it but however, the installer stated that it was unable to locate Hard Drives although it's already present. I tried a SATA driver from HP and I got "File iastor.sys caused an unexpected error...". I looked in the BIOS and there wasn't The option to use IDE mode. Where can I find the correct SATA driver to install XP on the Satellite M205-S4806? So when XP is correctly installed, where can I locate other drivers (e.g Video and Audio) from?

Satellite M205-S4806
Downloads here.
Unlike Windows versions after XP, it's installation package does not include a driver for a SATA-drive controller. See Microsoft's KB314859 and Toshiba's Document 98081855.
A workaround is to use nLite to integrate that driver into Windows' Setup.

This laptop was sent with no operating system so make sure the bios is set to run Windows 8.1
Completely shut down laptop Completely shut down laptop (Shut down Windows 8 while pressing the Shift key to completely power off.) then restart computer and hold f2 when the screen goes black and wait for the bios setup utility to launch.
Select advanced, then system configuration, then boot mode
UEFI and CSM or legacy  (UEFI for Windows 8 and CSM or legacy for windows 7)
For windows 8 change to UEFI.
Also in bios setup utility select - Security, then Secure Boot, then you have to enable secure boot for windows 8 and 8.1.
On the C50 models you may have to enable the secure boot before it will let you change the advanced boot mode to UEFI.

For this issue, I suggest you try the following steps:

  • Installing Windows 7 on the Satellite M100

I have the Satellite M100-JG2 (PSMA0C-JG200E). I would like to install Windows 7. The Toshiba does not list the M100 as compatible. The Microsoft Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor does point to some issues, but I do not know how easy it is to overcome them.
I read on another forum that the touchpad didn't work after the upgrade but this was solved by installing a Synaptics driver. Otherwise, I'm seeing people posting the upgrade was successful with no other info. Can anyone tell me if they have experienced success or not in attempting this upgrade, any issues they've run in to and how they've resolved them?
The Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor provides the following information (I've delete personal programs):
All systems pass (I only have 1GB RAM though, so not sure if this is too little, even though it passed)
    All devices pass
    Programs with issues:
TOSHIBA ConfigFree version 5.90.05 (don't know if I even need this)
    TOSHIBA Hardware Setup version 1.39.0.4C
    TOSHIBA Supervisor Password version 1.39.0.5C
TOSHIBA Alps Pointing-device Driver version 6.0.2.186 (is this touchpad)
Client and Host Security Platform version 104.0.14.2
Any help or advice would be welcomed before I attempt this upgrade.
    Thanks!

Okay, same Rory, different signon, as I had a password recovery issue. Alex, thanks for your very helpful response.
Here are my two major concerns:
    1) Toshiba does not list the M100 compatible for a reason, but it does list the M300 and M500 as compatible. I do not know why the M100 is not listed.
    2) The big issue I've seen in my internet search with the M100 is that the touchpad does not work after installing Windows 7. I was this resolved by one user by installing a Synaptics driver, but that is the only thing I've been able to find on the net about this.
Does anyone have any advice or experience about installing Windows 7 in the Satellite M100. I would have to wipe my only laptop, upgrade and find out I've hit a wall and have to try to go about to XP.
    Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!
    Rory

  • Installing Windows 7 on a Toshiba drive

I dropped my Toshiba laptop and it's dead (I've very sad about this). I pulled the hard drive out and put it into a Vaio laptop (the Vaio drive was toast).
The problem is the Vaio is for a Vista operationg system and I'm trying to install Windows 7 on the Toshiba hard drive in the Vaio (which was Win 8).
All the Disk 0 partitions are the wrong type or OEM or MS reserved.  I just thought it would be nice to have this work.  Is it possible?  Or should I just put them both on the driveway and run over them with my car and spare myself the agony?
    TIA -

The Vaio bios setting should be fine for windows 7. You would just have to format the entire drive to remove the windows 8 partitions then install your windows 7.

  • How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc

    1a)  Here is very useful article from PCWorld.com. The article is entitled "How to Install Windows 7 Without the Disc" and means just what it says. The article also has links to Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder and legitimate Windows 7 ISOs from Digital River, a licensed distributor of Microsoft software. The article lists "Step 1" as;
"Find your Windows 7 product key: Typically this 25-character alphanumeric string is printed on a sticker affixed to your PC or on documentation included with your PC. Alternatively, you can use a keyfinder program such as Magical Jelly Bean Keyfinder to pull your product key from the Registry. You need your product key to reinstall Windows."
1b)  Using a key finder, however, is only useful if the Windows 7 product key was printed on a sticker (Microsoft Certificate of Authenticity) affixed to your PC, on documentation included with your PC, or sent via email by Microsoft. Assuming your computer came from one of the big brand computer manufacturers... HP, Sony, Dell, Gateway, etc... as most do, it uses a generic "mass activation" OEM SLP key. Trying to use this key by itself isn't going to work. This OEM SLP key needs to be mated with an OEM SLP certificate and an appropriate OEM BIOS with a proper SLIC table.
1c)  Here is where ABR Beta With Windows 7 Support comes to the rescue. Follow the "How to use it" section of ABR for Windows Vista for information and instructions on how to use ABR. The steps listed for Vista apply to Windows 7 as well. Perform the "activation backup" to "backup" and save the OEM SLP key and OEM SLP certificate. Save the entire ABR folder to an external location for later use. This will allow you to pre-activate your "clean" Windows 7 install on the computer you pulled the key and certificate from.
1d)  Now install Windows 7 from your new "Windows 7" disc or USB stick, following all prompts as needed. Don't enter a Windows 7 product key if request. Also, don't allow Windows to try to auto-activate. Once Windows is fully installed, run ABR "activation restore" to "restore" the previously backed up product key and certificate to the new Windows 7 install. Verify that Windows is activated, repeat "activation restore" if needed.
    2)  Here is another useful article, this time from SevenForums.com. This arcticle is entitled "Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7" and provides detailed steps required to backup your computer, audit current hardware and software, locate software and drivers, install and activate Windows 7, and create a Windows 7 Backup Image of your fresh install.
    Good luck.
Links to additional Windows 7 SP1 "Editions" and "Languages" can be found HERE and HERE.
Link to "ei.cfg Removal Utility". The "ei.cfg Removal Utility" is a simple tool that will remove the ei.cfg  from any Windows ISO disc image, thereby converting the image into a "universal disc" that will prompt the user to select an edition during setup instead of being forced to use different discs for different versions of Windows 7.

    ervis,
Before formatting the hard drive you should have been able to use the HP Recovery Manager to create your recovery discs or perform a system recovery. This is provided the recovery partition wasn't already corrupt or damaged. If the "D:" HP Recovery partition is missing or damaged and you don't have a set of HP Recovery Discs, you will need to use the information in my previous post to get your computer up and running again.
    The information in the document referred you to applies to several different "types" of installations;
Using ABRbeta is only needed if you have an active OEM factory SLP (system locked preactivated) installation of Windows. You use ABR to pull the factory key and certificate off the computer, to reuse it on the same computer with a clean Windows install.
If you are just installing Windows and are going to use the Windows 7 product key on the COA on the side of your computer, all you need to do is download the same version of Windows that your key is for and burn the ISO. Now install Windows answering or following all prompts as needed (except do not enter the Windows product at this time... it will be entered later). Once Windows has completely installed, enter the key and activate it. Your Windows 7 OA key should work on a SP1 install without issue.
The only thing I see that could mess things up, is the language of the install. If you are still having trouble activating Windows, please reference the ISO you download and a post a photo of your Windows COA
with the key erased or Xed out.
    Please send KUDOs

I've installed windows 7 with the help of bootcamp on my macbook pro 2011.
Please help me how to install mac drivers for windows7 64 bit???

You either download drivers from within Boot Camp Assistant and save to USB FAT disk, or you insert and use 10.6.x OS X DVD when in Windows and install and run the SETUP from there.

Step 4: Install the Boot Camp Drivers for Windows
After installing Windows, install Mac-specific drivers and other software for Windows using your Mac OS X installation disc.  The Mac OS X disc installs drivers to support Mac components, including AirPort,built-in iSight camera, the Apple Remote, the trackpad on a portable Mac, and thefunction keys on an Apple keyboard.
The Mac OS X disc also installs the Boot Camp control panel for Windows and theApple Boot Camp system tray item.
To install the Boot Camp drivers:
1 Eject the Windows installation disc.
2 Insert the Mac OS X disc.  If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
    3 Follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
Windows that appear only briefly during the installation don’t require your input.
If nothing appears to be happening, there may be a hidden window that you mustrespond to. Check the taskbar and look behind open windows.
Important: Do not click the Cancel button in any of the installer dialogs.
4 After your computer restarts, follow the instructions in the Found New Hardware  Wizard to update your software drivers (Windows XP only).
5 Follow the instructions for any other wizards that appear.
6 Check for updated Boot Camp drivers by using Apple Software Update or going to www.apple.com/support/bootcamp.
If You Have Problems Installing the Device Drivers
If it appears that the Boot Camp drivers weren’t successfully installed, try repairing them.
    To repair Boot Camp drivers:
1 Start up your computer in Windows.
2 Insert your Mac OS X installation disc.
3 If the installer doesn’t start automatically, browse the disc using Windows Explorerand double-click the setup.exe file in the Boot Camp directory.
4 Click Repair and follow the onscreen instructions.
If a message appears that says the software you’re installing has not passed Windows  Logo testing, click Continue Anyway.
If you need to reinstall specific drivers, you can install one driver at a time. For example,if your built-in iSight camera isn’t working, you can reinstall just the iSight driver.
Individual drivers are in the Drivers folder on the Mac OS X installation disc.

I need help on restoring my disk capacity back to normal. I installed window 7 into the partition disk through bootcamp and I deleted it from disk utility. You shouldn't do it. You have to erase the Windows volume with Boot Camp Assistant, so it will restore the space onto the OS X volume and that volume will have 750 GB.
As you did it with Disk Utility, you have to resize your OS X partition manually:
    1. Open Disk Utility, select your hard disk at the top of the sidebar, and go to Partition tab.
    2. You will see a bar with Macintosh HD. You have to click it at the bottom right corner and drag it to the end of the bar, so Macintosh HD will use all the space of the hard drive, and press Apply.
    3. Close Disk Utility and your OS X partition will have 750 GB

  • Unable to install windows 8 on the mac

how do I install windows 8 on the Mac I tried but cannot get past windows set up . Where do you want to install windows? I have highlighted Drive 0 Partion 4 and it comes up with this We couldn't creat a new Partion or locate an existing one.

There are two different methods of installation, EFI and MBR, you are running a method which is combination of both. Either your MBR is incorrect or BCA failed to create one. EFI method requires a partition which is Free Space and the disk is GPT-only while MBR method expects to the disk to be partitioned already. If you see 'disk0 partition 4', it is the MBR method, and BCA could have failed.
Please post the output of the following Terminal command. You will be prompted for your password, and it will not be echoed back to you. "sudo" will also warn you about improper and potential data loss due to such 'abuse'.

  • Installing Windows 7 on the new 27-inch I-Mac

    Hi,
I have tried to instal windows 7 using the parallels desktop onto my new imac. but every time i get towards the end of the installation, i get a message telling me i need a device driver. i can't find the device driver, so i have no option but to stop the installation. does anyone know what i should do ? where do i get the driver from ? is it a mac driver or a windows driver ? PLEASE HELP !!

Ah... I don't see anything 'wrong' with using a VM to try it out and take it for a drive.
Parallels has their own forums. Sun's VM is free and works with 7. (include version of Parallels or assume you have the latest available?)
I know there are some glitches with 7 and the P55 based board, and with i5/i7 (Hardmac shows how they are 2x faster than the old cpus and blow them out of the water).
Was this an upgrade or system builder or full home premium?
But it really helps to say WHAT and other little things like detail. And first time... always a dry run and figure things out for a better attempt next go round.
Oh, and of course it is a Windows driver.

Before upgrading your Operating system, you have to de-activate and un-install the software.
As you have just un-installed the software, your receiving the above error, please contact Phone Support or Live Chat for reset activation.
However, you can install the Software on the third Computer by de-activating the Software from one of the older one and then install it on the new one so that you can avoid any error message while activating the Software.
