INstalling windows xp sp-2 on  macbook..... Problems i cant find answer to

I have wanted a mac for a long time so i bought one on 8-28. I have a program that only runs on windows so an apple associate said easy as pie to do on a macbook. SO i bought the Black Macbook and love the Mac side thus far. I had to go out and a buy a new version of windows Xp to install using boot camp. Im not overly text savvy so i called windows support to help me start the process. The first person i talked to was nice and helped me create a partition but because i didn't have my mac os installation disc at the office i had to wait til the next day and called back. I did and the guy wasn't helpful he just said ill email you an installation guide. He did and i started to install windows today and when i used Boot camp helper and clicked install windows it just went to a black screen with a blinking cursor in the top left hand corner. I called apple and they weren't much help. Their only opinion was it wasn't a good disc. I don't know how this could be when i just bought the disc from a local staples. Any words of advice from here??
My company bought my mac cause i could convince them i could run this program so i need to have windows installed by monday ...

There is an option to export the BootCamp Guide from Assistant as pdf which I assume is all they sent but is must read.
Installing a partition for BootCamp requires finding free space that is not fragmented and large enough for your partition. Sometimes that fails and you need to boot from DVD to run Disk Utility instead of install.
Sometimes it is necessary to reformat and restore from backup. In any case, it is advised and in the Guide to backup first. TimeMachine or Disk Utility Restore from a 2nd external drive.

The best reference book on OS X:
http://books.slashdot.org/books/08/02/27/1551206.shtml
Worth every bit 900 pages.
It does sound though that the copy/version you bought (XP SP2, or XP SP3) isn't 'liking' your MacBook.
The only real difference between running on a PC and Mac... PC uses BIOS and Apple uses Intel EFI.
Your program might also very well run in Windows, running inside OS X using Parallels or VMware Fusion and not need to run 'natively' on its own partition. Just another avenue to look into later.

  • Problem installing Windows 8 via Bootcamp on MacBook Pro 13 (late 2009).

    Hello,
I've installed Windows 8 Pro on my MacBook Pro 13 (Late 2009) which does not support Windows 8. I've started installing Windows 7 via Bootcamp, then interupted the installation and pluged-in the Windows 8 Disk, and after formating the partition, I've installed Windows 8 64-Bit.
Here is the problem. The Windows works fine, BUT after restart when I hold 'Alt' and choose EFI Boot (Windows 8's partition), Windows 8 starts loading but then suddenly there is a white flash and it restarts again. So after shut down or restart I cannot boot it.
Do you think that this is because I do not have Bootcamp installed on the Windows 8?
I've downloaded the supported software for Windows 8, but when I click setup.exe, it is giving me the following error:
This version of Bootcamp is not intended for this computer model. I've been trying to install it for more than 78 hours, so I'll be extremely gratefull to whoever help me. Thank you in advance.
P.S. Mac OS X partition boots fine.

If it is really not possible, I get it. But there are plenty of people that are running Windows 8 on the same model, that is powerfull enough to run Win 8. I'm actually running it, but until shut down or restart . Can't I edit Info.plst file alternative for Windows 8 like I did to allow BootCamp to image burn my USB on my model? I mean my model is same as the next one. I can't see why the drivers for mid 2010, won''t work on mine...

  • Cannot install Windows XP Professional on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp.

Cannot install Windows XP Professional on my MacBook Pro using Boot Camp. When I get to the point of inserting the Windows disc and clicking 'Install' at the Boot Camp Assistant screen, it keeps telling me that it cannot find the Install Disc. The installation disc I am using is a new full install disc. I have tried to do the same thing using a Windows 7 disc with the same results. Does anyone have any answers. I am getting desperate!

    64 bit.
32 bit won't use all your computer's ram.
64 bit allows you to run 32 bit programs
    Your computer is 64 bit
    New programs use 64 bit.
There is no reason to use the 32 bit version of Windows.

Guys, I been in the business working on PC and MAC for years. So I am not green at this, I was looking for some kind of option to get past the boot loader..  Which is failing.
I know how to boot into these modes.. Done tons of research before posting and couldn't find anything.
It will not go into  Internet Recovery, or any thing else.  I hear the sound .. then that is it.. I get nothing else..
I have tried clearing the NVRAM which is Option + Command + P + R
    Still nothing..
So I thought I would try here to see if maybe there was some trick out there someone might know of that would work.
What else guys?  I am hitting th keys right..

  • Can I install Windows 7 in 13-inch MacBook Pro (2.7 ghz Dual Core i-7) without problem

Can I install Windows 7 without any trouble in Macbook Pro (2.7 Ghz Dual Core I-7) ?

Since I always look at Windows as a problem, I would have to say no.
But if you must then you need to create a partition with Boot Camp in which to install your copy of Windows 7. The Core I7 doesn't support XP or Vista.

  • How to install Windows 7 on Late 2013 Macbook Pro?

I purchased a brand new Macbook Pro last week, retina display and all. I've enjoyed it thus far, yet for whatever reason, I can't seem to install windows on a partition in BootCamp like I used to be able to. I'm on Mavericks of course, 10.9.3. I tried installing Windows on an 8gb flash drive, only to find it freeze right as the Windows initial setup comes up. I have no disc drive on this laptop, and I see no reason why I would have to buy an external optical drive just to install windows. I have an ISO file from my university, and all I want to do is use it. Also, VmWare Fusion is not what I'm looking to use.The Graphics card driver fails for most of my favorite steam games.  I'd like to use bootcamp how it used to be. I tried editing the assistant's .plist after finding a tutorial on google, but Bootcamp crashes every time. I'm out of options. So my question is how do I install windows 7 on this computer?
Really hoping someone can solve my problem. All I want to do is play Sniper Elite III, and nothing will work. Thank you

  • Installing Windows XP on a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display.

I just purchased a new MacBook Pro with Retina display and need to install Windows XP on it so that I may run 3 Windows programs.  I have watched a few videos on the internet on how to do this through Boot Camp Assistant, and it says at one point to use the driver CD from Mac to install the drivers.  I did not get any CD's with my new MacBook Pro.  I also saw on some of these boards that said Boot Camp does not support Windows XP.  The people at the Apple store said it can run Windows XP, so I have ordered an original version.
Question 1.  Does my MacBook Pro with Retina Display running OS X version 10.8.3 able to run Windows XP?
Question 2.  How do I install the drivers?

Would this work? And also, what is the VM I need?  Where do I get it?

  • Install Windows 8/8.1 on MacBook Pro

Hello guys I have a problem with Installing Windows 8 on my Mac. I Recently upgraded my OS to OS X Mavericks.
The thing is that i wanted to install Windows 8 via BootCamp on a MacBook Pro (mid 2011 i guess) and i  have a .Iso file that contains the Windows 8.
after downloading Windows Support Software it proceeds to Partioning process.
After done with the creation of Disks BootCamp restarts my system and a Dark Window apears. No bootable device, insert a boot disc and press any key.
    Please Help

Thanks, turbostar.  I will try that.
However, my question is I am using the 8.1 DVD to install, but how comes this does not work?  Also it stopped and saying that the boot information can't be changed.  What is happening?  I have checked that the partition is good and format for Windows, but still not working.  Sigh.

  • Cannot install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on MacBook Air 11" (Late 2010)

Hi, I'm trying to install Windows 8 Consumer Preview on my MacBook Air 11" (Late 2010 model) via Boot Camp assistant. I've hacked the Info.plist of the Boot Camp Assistant to allow it to create a bootable USB installer drive. After successfully creating the USB, the laptop proceeds to reboot itself but it never loads up the Windows installer. However, if I restart it while holding Option, and selecting EFI boot, the installer loads up. However, once it loads, I cannot install Windows 8 Consumer Preview to the Boot Camp partition because of this error: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The selected disk has an MBR partition table. On EFI systems, Windows can only be installed to GPT disks. Windows cannot be installed to this hard disk space. WIndows must be installed to a partition formatted as NTFS. Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."
Can anyone guide me through steps that would hopefully resolve this problem? Thank you in advance

  • I want to install Windows XP on my new Macbook Pro

I want to install Windows XP pro on my new macbook pro.  I followed bootcamp assistant until i got the driver disc saying I need windows 7.  oopppss i dont want windows 7.  Can I still use Windows xp?  I have only one professional software package that works perfectly using Boot Camp and XP. I don't use Windows otherwise.  I think is is the 32 versus 64 bit issue which i don't need.  Help please.

I assume I can save $100 by upgrading before Apple drivers.
Display mirroring is use by me to let my Client watch and change home design without breathing on my neck, lol.
My fear is upgrading and losing that option.  I have a 52" monitor they can watch on.  XP updated one day an used the 2nd monitor for some TV addon without permission.  They later fixed that problem but it cost me 20 lost days i don't want to repeat.  One of my iMac is running XP with the old drivers perfectly.  So apple Boot camp assistant has no work around to use my 7 bought copies of XP pro.
I guess i will try upgrade and cross my fingers.
    Thanks again!
