Installing XP-Says "Clean Install" First

I purchased a new MacBook last weekend and then ordered XP Home Edition OEM to work with Bootcamp after posting several messages here and receiving good advice. The software arrived today and says the following: "Install the software: Because you have purchased a full version of an operating system, installation requires a "clean install" on your hard drive." Does this REALLY mean what it says? I am starting to panic. I have already installed software, etc. on my MacBook prior to receiving this software today. This is software I will use on the "Mac side" of my MacBook. Do I have to erase everything I put on before I can setup Bootcamp and then XP, or does the "partitioning" come into play here and it doesn't matter?

Hey Sunny46:
A clean install is for you Windows XP installation. Not MAC OS X, also follow the instructions I gave listed below.
1) Your software is safe on your mac partition
2) Press Command + Shift + U to go to Utilities.
3) Double click on Bootcamp.
4) Make a Partition for windows (Whatever works for you 10GB, 20GB etc.)
5) Insert your XP CD
6) In Bootcamp click on start Windows Installation and then continue.
7) Let that run and follow all on screen instructions.
8) When Windows XP ask to to format simply select the format and head to next set of instruction
9) Once installed, install all BootCamp Drivers for windows.
10) reboot.......
11) Rename your Harddrive by going to My computer, right click on your harddrive and bring up properties from there you should see a field to name your Harddrive. The reason for this is so your Mac Parition does not show a untitled name for the Hardrive partition.
12)Thats it! remember to update your Mac OS and your Windows XP

  • HT5022 trying to install airport utility 5.6 but during installation it says cleaning up then the installation fails how can I install the software

I am trying to install airport utility on my mac with OS 10.7.5 to use my old airport express but during installation after it says cleaning up it stops installing with an error message an error occured.
The software is from the Apple site and all it says is to contact the developer but cannot find out who to contact

Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:
If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
    Run Pacifist.
Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.
You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.

Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
Then, determine if your Mac meets ALL minimum system install requirements.
To install OS X  10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks (free upgrade, but currently unavailable) or OS X 10.10 Yosemite (currently available free upgrade) you need one of these Macs:
OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion purchased emailed download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6377Z/A/os-x-mountain-lion
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),
    MacBook Pro (15-inch or 17-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installed
2 GB or more of memory (I strongly advise, at least, 4 GBs of RAM or more)
8 GB or more of available space
    Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.
    http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able to find the latest versions of OS X by clicking on the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password and if you purchased a download code, input that code.
You can then begin the download and installation process of installing the newer versions of OS X from the Mac App Store.

  • LEGO Mindstorms 2.0 crashes at startup when LabView Signal Express is installed first

When NI Circuit Design Suite Education Edition is installed first in a computer and the LEGO Mindstorms software second, the LEGO Mindstorms software doesn't work, it reports the following:
Error: A required file is broken
Possible Solutions: Reinstall the LEGO Mindstorms NXT Driver  (tried but doesn't work)
    Error code: 1003
    Ordinal not found
The ordinal 18 could not be located in the dynamic link library NIVISV32.dll
    Error loading "fantom.dll"
The operating system can not run %1
On other computers the LEGO software starts running, it displays part of the initial screen and then a small window opens saying that the Mindstorms software has has an error and that it will close. The previous report doesn't show.
If LabView Signal Express is uninstalled and then the LEGO software reinstalled, the LEGO software works.
I've dowloaded and installed new and old versions of the NIVISV32.dll and this doesn't correct the problem. I went as far as version 4.20 of the dll because it is dated in 2007 and the dll file installed by the LEGO software when it works is also dated 2007, but if I install the dll without uninstalling LabView Signal Express, the LEGO software continues not working.
Please advice how to correct this problem without having to uninstall LabView Signal Express first. If the LEGO software is installed first, is LabView Signal Express going to use and not to replace the old 2007 version of the dll installed by the LEGO software? Is there any LEGO software update that corrects this problem?
I repeat: I know a solution is to uninstall LabView Signal Express, install LEGO Mindstorms and then reinstall LabView Signal Express but I have 60 computers already cloned and deployed with this problem, so I don't want to go to this long process to fix the problem. The computers are using Windows 7 and problems happen on both the 32 and 64 bits versions of Windows 7.
    Any ideas???
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I couldn't reproduce the error either, but in our x86 computers this problem appeared after several months; we used LEGO Mindstorms last time in Summer 2011 without any problems and just three weeks ago when we were checking the computer for our Summer 2012 classes if when we noticed the problem. I’m still going to try to reproduce the error in an x64 computer where the problem appeared immediately.
Anyway, I’m attaching a word file with images of captured screens where you can see the error reports generated by LEGO Mindstorms and a series of steps uninstalling and reinstalling these program plus LabVIEW, until LEGO Mindstorms finally works after having uninstalled all traces of LabVIEW.
Images can be expanded and zoomed in to a better view of the details and if I can reproduce the problem in an x64 computer I’ll let you know.
Please see if you can find out something based on the images I’m sending.
    Thank you.

  • CS5.5 Install - Volume Licensing - What file to I install first?

I downloaded my installation instructions for CS5.5 upgrade from the volume license website at licensing.adobe.com.
I was presented with five files to download.
    1. Adobe CS5.5 Installation Instructions. This is a .pdf file
    2. Adobe Web Premium CS5.5 Installer for Windows (English)
    3. Adobe Web Premium CS5.5 Installer Package for Windows (English)
    4. Adobe Design Premium & Web Premium CS5.5 Content Installer for Windows (Multi-Language)
    5. Adobe Illustrator CS5.1 Content Installer for Windows (English)
Number 1 is the instruction sheet. It clearly says there will be a setup.exe file in these downloads.
There is not a setup.exe file. So now I sit here wondering how to install my CS5 upgrade.
Instead I have the following files:
    CS5_5_Installation_Instructions.pdf
    WebPremium_DesignPremium_CS5_5_Content_ALL.exe
    WebPremium_CS5_5_LS1.exe
    Illustrator_15_1_Content_LS1.exe
    WebPremium_CS5_5_LS1.7z
Can someone please tell me how to install this software when there is no setup.exe file?
I don't even know where to start.
    Thank you,
    BL

Hey, thanks so much for your answer.
But do you know what files I install first?
That's my dilemma. I don't want to install them in the wrong order.
Or maybe everything I need is in the file WebPremium_DesignPremium_CS5_5_Content_ALL.exe
and it might cause problems if I install the other files over the top.
So do you know where I start?

  • Which file do I install first

I downloaded the two PSE!2 install files and don't know which to install first. The 1MB file is listed in properties as Adobe Extractor. I've got conflicting information from our people at the school computer store and from an Adobe Tech. Store says install the 1GB file. Adobe Tech says install the 1MB extractor first, (do not try to open the 1GB+ file, follow the instructions, and the extractor file will open and install the 1107MB Installer package. Is that how this works. Advice please. Thank you.

the smaller file should have an exe extension (the extractor) and the larger (the archive) should have a 7z extension.
put both in the same directory and click (or double click) the exe.

  • I am trying to install the cs5 upgrade on my new laptop, however, I cannot locate my cs4 program to install first.  Am I out of luck?

I am trying to install the cs5 upgrade on my new laptop, however, I cannot locate my cs4 program to install first.  Am I out of luck?

You do not need the older version installed in order to install the upgrade version, but you do need the serial number from CS4 to prove that you qualify for using CS5.  During the activation process for CS5, after you successfully enter the CS5 serial number you will be asked to select the qualifying version (CS4) from a list and to enter its serial number.
If you registered CS4 when you originally installed it then you might be able to find the serial number available in your Adobe account online in the Products section.

  • Oracle 8.1.6.Server and Forms 6i. What Install First?

    Hi everybody,
I going to install Forms/Reports 6i on my home machine that
already running Oracle 8.1.6. Entreprise under Windows 2000.
Both products must NOT be located under 1 Oracle Home directory,
but important what do I have to install first. From one hand,
my friend has a positive experience installing Forms AFTER
Personal Oracle 8i ver.1 (i.e. 8.1.5) to separate Oracle Home
directory. From other hand - that solution didn't work for him
in case of Oracle 8.1.6. Information provided by Oracle itself
about this is also very controversial.
I do appreciate your advise in this matter.

First you install the engine then the developer , the operation is very staright forward and you should have no problems encountered at all according to information given.

  • Which do I install first?

OK, I'm giving up on ever getting one of my photos in Elements 8.0 to appear in the CS5 Editor. I used to be able to do this on my old computer, which used XP, but cannot do this in my new computer, which uses Windows 7.
I currently have Elements 8 and CS5 on my new computer. I just bought Elements 9 in the hope that this will solve the problem. I'm thinking I should uninstall CS5, then install Elements 9 and reinstall CS5. Does it make a difference which program (Elements 9 or CS5) I install first? My goal is to be able to click on a photo in Elements, then click on Edit, then click on Edit with Photoshop, and have the photo open up in CS5. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

    Brett,
When I click on a photo in Elements 8.0, then click on Edit, Edit with Photoshop, CS5 opens but no photo appears. The photo is then locked in Elements, and I have to close out of CS5, go into the Elements Editor, and close out of that in order to unlock the photo. I don't get any error messages at all--the photo just never appears in CS5.

  • What OS do I need to install first on my Mac after a HD wipe?

Hi, I am doing my annual HD wipe on a 2008 iMac and I keep forgetting which OS is the most recent that I can install FIRST.  If i recall correctly I couldn't just put Mavericks on last time, I needed Mountain Lion or Snow Leopard (can't remember which).  I have Mavericks now, but I am planning on going to Yosemite.  Also, if there is anyone with a computer as old as mine that has an argument on why i should NOT upgrade to Yosemite, please let me know.  Thanks.
    current computer :
    imac 24"
    Early 2008
Processor  3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  6 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Software  OS X 10.9.5

If you made a bootable USB drive of your Mavericks installer, you can boot to that and install Mavericks directly. There's no need to install an older OS first. Likewise, if you have a separate bootable drive with the downloaded Mavericks .dmg installer anywhere you can get at it, you can run the installer from there, then choose the erased drive as the target to install Mavericks too. Again, without having to install an older OS there beforehand.
Macs with 4GB of RAM are not faring well with Yosemite. More features means more hardware requirements. You have 6GB, which may be alright for Yosemite, though I would personally recommend 8 as a real use minimum.

  • OS upgrade, which to install first?

I am upgrading from Tiger to Snow Leopard, also updating to iLife 11. Which should I install first? iLife or OS snow leopard?

Updtate your OS first and make sure you have a working system before adding in more variables.
And before you do any major system update like this back up your current system so you can revert to it (or possibly start over) if the updates cause problems.

  • Which one should be installed first Desktop or Admin

    Hi,
Can someone please tell me which one is needed to be installed first....
    Discoverer Desktop or Disc Admin?
    Thanks
    Kumar

    Hi Kumar,
    Disc Admin is needed first.
You first have to set up the EUL, bussiness areas, folders, etc... After you have that set up you can connect using discoverer desktop/plus and create workbooks based off of the work you did in admin.
