Installing Yosemite on iMac 2013 hangs with status bar midway

Trying to install Yosemite, but screen just displays a white screen with apple logo and the status bar is around 50 %
been running for about 4.5 hrs, will leave overnight, but then what if no joy.
I Thought that Apple was good over these types of things, it is a Apple iMac 27" 2012 machine with 8Gb Ram.
thanks
ian

If you use the power button to shut down and then restart does it boot?  menu/About This Mac - what is installed?
Do a backup, preferably 2 separate ones on 2 separate drives.
Revert to a Previous OS X - Yosemite
Revert Yosemite to Mavericks
If you do revert, I'd use Setup Assistant to restore your data. This process takes a while, so do it when you won't need the computer for several hours, based on my experience.

  • Since installing Yosemite, my iMac isn't saving Notification preferences.

Since installing Yosemite, my iMac isn't saving Notification preferences. I know it's an issue, because I've seen it in other forums. Any help?

Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.
    1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.
    2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.
    3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.
    4. Next, open the Terminal application.
Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:
    cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
    rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
    killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter
    5. Close the Terminal app.
    6. Restart your computer.
The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this.

I was in the middle of updating to 7.0.3 and Itunes stopped working. Now my phone is stuck in limbo (apple logo with status bar under) My power button doesnt work (of course) How do I get it back to normal?

I have same issue. I click on the home button and Wake/sleep at the same time for 30 seconds or more and then the phone entered in Recovery mode. It is erasing my content now and installing the update. Let´s see how this ends. I have iCloud, iTunes match, and backups from previos versions, hope I can restore all my content.
Otherwise I´ll go to the Genius Bar to do a checkup.
    Good luck!
It did not work the first time... The iPhone4 kept in limbo. Then I did disconnect as suggested above and tried again to enter in Recovery mode.  This second time it works. And after restoring the iPhone4 with 7.0.3, it asked me if I want to recover from backup. I did recover from my latest back up and now it is syncing the content.

  • Big problem with status bar legibility in IOS 7.0.4

Hi, i'm adressing this problem to Apple. I recently update my iphone 4s to ios 7.0.4 and i have found some problems with status bar visibility in certain apps. Ex: in Photo app, the status bar is dark and it is unreadable, same in Lockscreen in Emergency menu, in menu when someone calls or you call someone and in Camera app the status bar is black and overlaps with the text and option buttons of the app. Please fix this as soon as possible because it is very frustrating.Sorry for bad english :d

The disk utility program has found an error and cannot repair it - Disk Utility is not able to repair the drive it has been booted from. You'll need to restart the computer using another disk - this is one reason why I always travel with an emergency DVD and a bootable external drive. Invalid node structure errors are non-trivial; sometimes Disk Utility will repair them and sometimes not. Disk Warrior has been my second line of defence for disk drive problems for years.

  • Unable to update iPhoto after installing yosemite on iMac

recently installed yosemite OS, but cannot open iPhoto without update  and cannot find update.

Its been like this for 2 hours...
It may be hanging, because you are running out of storage - do you have at least 10GB of fee disk space?
Or something is interfering with your connection to the App Store - anti virus software, a firewall. If you have any such software running, restart yor mac in Safe Mode and try reinstalling in this mode:  Mac OS X: Starting up in Safe Mode
If that does not help either, ask in the App Store forum.

  • If i install yosemite on my 2014 mbp with windows 8.1 will there be a problem

    hey guys
i have held out on Yosemite because i have heard that some people with bootcamp already installed that tried to install Yosemite have problems with there bootcamp. all i am asking is if someone like me who has installed windows 8.1 the standard (vanilla) way via bootcamp would have a problem accessing my windows 8.1 partition and or does it get deleted. i am eager to try out Yosemite because of its cool features.
    thank you very much

Please install Yosemite on a different physical disk and test it out. Do not upgrade to Yosemite if you have Windows on the same physical drive. Also, install Yosemite on an external drive on a different machine if possible.
Apart from BC, there are also known WiFi issues with Yosemite.

  • HT1338 Why does the iPhoto that came installed on my iMac not update with Software Update?

I have iPhoto v9.1.5 that came pre-installed on my iMac. However, although there have been newer versions available on the App Store (currently up to v9.2.3) there have never been any updates available in "Software Update".
Weirder still, when I go to the App Store, iPhoto is one of the apps showing as available to update. But when I click to update, the App Store sometimes tells me I "must log-in with the account used to purchase the application", and sometimes that "only apps purchased from the App Store can be updated". I've tried both the accounts I have with the App Store, but same result each time.
I had a very disappointing experience with Apple Customer Support, speaking to several people in different departments - none of whom could explain why I couldn't update iPhoto, nor offering any kind of fix. Not what you expect from Apple!
Does anyone have any clue how I can fix this? v9.1.5 ***** on so many levels - but then maybe v9.2.3 is just as bad and I should just trash it and use something else anyway..... Any advice will be considered!

I've since found other posts on this issue (like https://discussions.apple.com/message/16434345#16434345), so at least I'm not the only one. Seems that Apple are being incredibly slow to resolve this. The only solution I've read is to get my hands on an iLife installation disc - and amazingly, none of the techs on the phone (I've spoken to several) have come up with this solution!
But is there any other way?

  • After Installing Yosemite my iMac is unuseable

    I have a late 2009 iMc 27inch, 3.06Hz Intel 2 Duo, 12GB RAM,
My computer was working fine until I installed Yosemite. It now cannot perform any task without freezing for 10 to 30 seconds, sometimes longer. Boot time is much slower, as is log in. I have no start up programs running that I can see, and the Activity monitor is showing nothing is being used. Yet if I try and launch anything the system freezes.
Any help would be much appreciated.

    Many thanks for replying
OK this is what i get (i opened 1 line, hence all the numbers)
this was just from safari i opened it, went to the bbd website selected 2 random links then it froze for a minute. And the system continues to do that with any applications. . it gives you about 20 seconds or so of use and then freezes.

Okay :-/ I messed up the post. But this did make me smile and I have reposted my problem.

  • Grey start-up screen with status bar freezing and shutting down

    Hello
I have a 13.1 MBP running 10.8.1 that is about 18 months old and when starting it up, it makes the traditional apple "ding" and then starts up with the little spinning wheel.
Then the status bar appears reminicent of when you install a firmware update and after 23 seconds, the MBP competely shuts down.
I have reset the PRAM, tried to start up from the disc, tried to start in Safe Mode and everything in between.
Nothing seems to remedy the situation.
Any thoughts would be most helpful!
    Thanks!

Actually, you should hold the C key to start up from a Mac OS X install disk. Holding the D key boots into Apple Hardware Test (assuming you've got the right disc in). If both of those things fail, resulting in identical behavior, then it's likely to be a hardware issue.

  • DROID RAZR issues with status bar - Winamp

When i pull the status bar all the way down it is really hard to get it to stay locked.  It just keeps flying back up to its normal position.  Winamp is also borked

If your Having Issue Linking too Winamp an other Stuff with it you might Give this A Look an see if can Help Ya:
You need to install both the Winamp for Android and the latest Winamp Media Player for your PC.
    Step 1::
On your Android device, download Winamp for Android.
    Step 2:
When you initially launch the application you'll see a "Winamp Help" screen. Click on the "Wi-Fi Sync" button and following the onscreen instructions. If you don't see the Winamp Help screen, simply launch Winamp and from the Home screen press the Menu button (hard button), go to "Settings" and "Enable wireless sync".
    Step 3:
Make sure your PC and Android phone are on the same Wi-Fi network.
    Step 4:
From your PC, download & install Winamp Standard (free) or Winamp Pro (premium). Version 5.6 or later is required. Please note that Wi-Fi sync with Winamp for Android will not work with "Winamp Lite". After launching Winamp you will be prompted to "Add Media to Library" or "Import from iTunes".
    Step 5:
From the Media Library tab, select "Devices" in the navigation panel (left-hand side of screen).
    Step 6:
Your Android device should now be visible in the "Discovered" area of the "Devices" view. If not, click the "Discover" button. You'll also want to be sure that your device is not in sleep mode.
The "Discovered" view only indicates available devices. To sync with your device, you will first have to attach it.
    Step 7:
To attach a device, double click on your device icon (or single click on the attach overlay button). This will send a pairing notification to your device.
    Step 8:
After clicking "Attach", a notification will be sent from the Winamp Media Player to your Android device asking you if you would like to allow Wi-Fi pairing. Click allow.
    Step 9:
Once you have selected "Allow", you should now see your device in the "Attached" area of the "Devices" view. Additionally, you will see your device name appear under the "Devices" node in navigation panel.
(Note: You only have to pair your phone once. After initial pairing, your device should automatically appear in the attached state. You may be prompted to pair again after upgrading to a newer version of Winamp for Android).
At this point your Wi-Fi set-up is complete and you are ready for wireless syncing.
    Step 10:
Once your device is "Attached", mouse over the device icon and click on the "Sync" overlay button. Alternatively, you can manually drag and drop files in your "Audio" library to your device (pictured below).
You also have the option of setting up your Preferences by right-clicking on your device or by going to Options >> Preferences >> Portables >> [Device Name]. Learn more about sync preferences and settings.

  • Problem with status bar.

The status bar all the time change to white in the home pages!
    and I can't see nothing!
p.s my background is white too.
    What to do?

    Hi aviadle,
If you are having issues with your iPhone's status bar showing only white, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Best,
    Brett L
