Installing yosemite on windows login screen

Hi, after something went totaly wrong with my mac, I found myself stuck on the windows login screen (My mac also operated with windows). I didnt remember my windows password and I cant change it via mail or something. So I was really stuck in there and I think I should buy os x yosemite so I can install os x again. But my question is: If I put the stick in my mac, can I reinstall os x again or will nothing happen? Because if I buy it and nothing is gonna happen Ive bought that stick for nothing,
Thank you!

You don't buy a USB drive with Yosemite on it. You download Yosemite from the App Store. To reinstall OS X:
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
  1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
  2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
  3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
  4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • After installing yosemite stuck on login screen

So against my better judgement, I decided to upgrade to Yosemite. The login seemed to be going ok, then I noticed it was stock on the progress bar... once again, against my better judgement, I did a hard reboot. When my iMac rebooted, it went through the loading screen ok, and onto my user login screen. After selecting my account and putting in my PW, it is now stuck on the color wheel loading icon... nothing happens. What are my options?

    Hi there,
They DID solve it at the genius bar!
He tried a few code tricks, aka booting up using command+S, but those didn't work.  He ran a restore permissions and reinstalled Lion (without removing any of my personal data) and hey presto, it works.  I'm typing to you now on the machine.
Is that enough info for you, or would you like me to get more..? I do have to go back soon for another issue.  I just want to help the community with problems.

    please help!
    thanks in advance

    1. I have tried copying the Keyboard/Trackpad/Mouse drivers to the $WinPEDriver$ directory with mixed success on a 2012 MBP.
    2. My experience is based on a 2013 rMBP. You may be able to use an Apple USB Keypad/Mouse to better success.
    3. See http://www.macworld.com/article/2460820/macbook-pro-mid-2014-review-minor-update -offers-slightly-better-cpu-performance.html for HW differences between the two machines.
    4. If you have access to a 2013 rMBP, I can suggest trying to build the USB on that and working with the USB to see if you can make it install Windows. the rMBP 2014 and rMBP 2013 have the same HW, except some CPU changes. You can also try building the USB at the nearest Apple store, if possible.
    5. There is a section in AutoUnattend.xml, which is supposed to install all drivers in $WinPEDriver$ (see this http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2686316 )

  • After 10.5.2 install stuck at the login screen.  Help please!

    Hi all,
After installing 10.5.2 my computer rebooted to the login screen, but no matter what account I select (I have 3) it goes to a blue screen for a few seconds and then right back to the login screen. I've tried booting in safe mode and also resetting the PRAM. I've been reading this forum, but don't seem to see anyone else having this same exact problems.
    Any suggestions?

I have had problems after the 10.5.2 update. I ended up with a frozen computer - unable to restart or shut down etc. Also ended up at one stage with Set Up Assistant screen. With the help of a computer savvy friend, at least I am able to use my computer again.
It appears the actual download did happen but it did not install and the computer tells me I need to "re-start". When I did this, window appeared on plain blue screen saying it was installing software but absolutely nothing happened - no blue scrolling bar etc.
My iMac computer is still under Apple Care Plan and technician told me they are many problems surfacing across the various machines with this upgrade. He has asked me to delay updating the software and to ring back in a couple of days because their technicians are currently working on the problem and he hopes for an answer soon.

  • Installed Yosemite can't login

My daughter accidently started the Yosemite install. I have a 2011 MacBook Pro.
I left it plugged in overnight and in the morning it was in sleep mode. I turned it on and it restarted. It stayed on the gray apple screen for a few minutes and eventually came to the login screen. New background but still had my owner account and guest account icons.
When I put in my password to login it doesn't do anything. The wheel spins and spins, no errors messages. I've tried restarting a few times and it does the same thing.
Doesn't matter what account I use, Owner or Guest, I get the same result.
I don't have a current back-up on my external hardrive so I'm nervous to do much.
    Anyone have similiar issues?
    Thanks,
    K

    Hello k,
I would start your troubleshooting with starting your MacBook Pro in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key down while it is starting up and see if it will log in. If it does, restart your Mac and boot up normally and try to log in again. If it does not, then you may need to reinstall OS X Yosemite again. If you need further assistance with any of these, take a look at the articles below.

  • Yosemite restarts on login screen

When I'm logged in and inactive after some time a see the login screen (that's ok and that's what I want ;)) but when OS is in that state after some time it reboots.
How can I fix that issue? Is it a bug in the OS or some wrong setting somewhere?

    Hello sloik84,
It may be due to the settings to log you out after a certain amount of time of inactivity. Check in System Preferences > Security & Privacy and in the General Tab you should see a button that says Advanced. In order to click it, you will need to click the lock in the lower left hand corner and enter in your password for your computer. Once that it is done you can click on Advanced and you will see a section called Log out after... minutes of inactivity and set it to how you want it to be.

  • Windows login screen buttons not working (sort of!?!?)

    Okay,
It seems I'm plagued with the weird and strange issues, so the gist is...
Have a Dell Latitude E6330 with Windows 7 Ult.  When I boot up and get to where you login, when I click on ANY of the on desktop 'buttons' (i.e. the 'login' arrow after putting in creds, Switch User, red Shut Down or up arrow for other options, etc.),
the button shows as being 'clicked' (the button press/depress reaction shows), but NOTHING happens.
I've uninstalled/re-installed drivers - plugged in an actual mouse - nothing works.
The ONLY workaround that seems to give it a 'kick' is to put in your creds in and click 'Enter', then log out and the buttons work, BUT if you're a different user, where you would usually just click on Switch User, you have to leave the current user password
blank and just click Enter, so the 'The user name or password is incorrect' error comes up - THEN when you can click on the buttons, they 'work' now?????
So other than re-installing the OS (which we DON'T REALLY want to do, has anyone EVER seen this before???
    Thanks for any ideas
    Cheers

I've never seen it before. Once you finally log in, I'd open cmd as administrator and run a sfc /scannow to see if any errors come up.
When did this issue start? Does it coincide with any updates or program installations?

  • 'Installing OS X' window off screen

Hi all, I've started the upgrade to Mavericks from 10.7.5. After my laptop rebooted it got to the 'Installing OS X' (translated from Czech) screen. The window is however partially off screen so I can't see the bottom of it (no progress bar or buttons). I am not sure if I can just wait for it to complete or if there is some other step necessary such as clicking an OK button which I can't see.
Does anyone remember what happens next or how long this should take?
    Thanks a lot!

  • Yosemite froze on login screen

    Good Day.
I am a South African Mac user and after the 10.10.2 upgrade everything was fine and yesterday I restarted and my screen got stuck at the login and would not go further than 50%.  I tried everything PRAM and even new installation of Yosemite but nothing.  I read it has something to do with file vault en encription, but connot get in, to switch it off.  I am a basic user and not yet very familliar with mac fixes and problems, can someone please help.  I am desperate.

    Hi Piero,
As jy backups het van jou data is 'n nuwe installasie miskien die beste, maar jy kan die volgende stappe eers probeer:
Verseker dat jou Mac af is.
    - Hold Command-R on the keyboard and turn on the Mac (Keep the keys held down)
    - Click on Utilities or Disk utilities
    - In the left column you should see Macintosh HD and underneath again Macintosh HD but greyed out
    - Click on the greyed out Macintosh HD
    - On the top bar you should see: Verify, Info... click on Unlock and enter the password your were asked to make for FileVault
    - Next click on File at the very top menu bar and you should see 'Turn off encryption' .. click it.
    - You will have to enter your password once again.
    - Either a progress bar will appear and if not, restart your macbook as usual; Log in and start the System Preference, Security and Privacy, FileVault and hopefully it should be decrypting and giving you an estimated time which decreases very quickly.
If not successful, give a shout and I will post the steps for a totally new installation
    Hoop dat dit help

  • Windows Login Screen doesn't show "eye" symbol for Password Reveal and right arrow (Enter)

When logging in to Windows 8.1 the eye symbol and right arrow symbol have been displayed until (I guess so) after an automatic Windows Update . As I was planning to migrate to Windows 10 I didn't invest much investigation into this problem. Now, after successful migration to Windows 10 Home the problem still exists. After typing the password I can't verify it because the eye symbol is still missing and for entering I have to press "Enter" due to the missing clickable right arrow. All this happens with a Microsoft online Account. I established a local account and with this, the eye symbol but not the right arrow reappeared. Many thanks for helping.

    Hi there
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you wish to enable the reveal password icon for your system. I am happy to help. It really depends on which version of the Operating system you are running, because this sort of thing is normally controlled using the Group Policy Editor. That tool is not a part of a Home edition, you would need the Pro version or higher to have that. Assuming that you do have a pro edition or higher, then these may be of help to you:5 Ways to Access Local Group Policy Editor on Windows 10 - isunshare.comDisable or Enable the new Password Reveal Button feature in Windows 8 - windowsclub.com Unfortunately the version of Windows 10 I have installed beside me is the home edition as well, so I cannot access this, to verify, so let me know if that works for you.

  • Re: Windows login screen integration

In your AD resource schema, you will have to add below entry
expirePassword  boolean WS_PasswordExpired and while creating a user on AD, set this attriubte as
      <set name='userView.accounts[Active Directory].expirePassword'>
                    <s>TRUE</s>
</set>This will make user to change his "password on next window logon"

    HI,
If this issue occur to all windows 7 clients, this would be a compatibility issue between application and windows system.
but you can try to run the windows 7 startup repair to check if it could detect something or run the SFC command in command prompt to check if there is any system file modified:

  • How to Bypass Windows 7 Login Screen When Forgot Admin Password

When forgot Windows 7 administrator login password and be stuck at the login screen what can you do? Believe that many people have encountered such a situation where they are locked out of their own computer for forgotten Windows administrator password. So today I would like to talk about several tricks on how to bypass Windows 7 login screen when forgot administrator login password. Trick 1: Reset Windows 7 admin password with password reset diskIf you have ever created a Windows password reset disk for that administrator account before you forgot its password it is easy to use it to reset or remove its password. Just insert the disk into your locked Windows 7 computer and click ¡°Reset Password¡± link on the login screen. Then follow the password reset wizard to perform password reset. This is the easiest way to bypass a Windows login screen when forgot administrator password. Trick 2: Change Windows 7 admin password in Safe ModeIf you have no password reset disk you have to look for other tricks to bypass your Windows 7 administrator password. So if you have enabled the built-in administrator account you can enter Safe Mode by pressing F8 when your computer is booting. And access that built-in administrator account to change other user password. Trick 3: Bypass Windows 7 Login screen with Windows Password RescuerIf the forward 2 tricks don't work, it is necessary for you to use an effective Windows Password Recovery tool like Daossoft Windows Password Rescuer. Steps are as below.Step 1: Download and install Daossoft Windows Password Rescuer into another accessible computer.Step 2: Launch this tool and follow its instruction to burn it to a USB/CD/DVD flash drive.Step 3: Boot your locked Windows 7 computer from the flash drive.Step 4: Follow its instruction to reset/remove your Windows administrator password. Detailed video tutorial :How to Remove or Bypass Windows 7 Administrator Password - Forgot Windows 7 Administrator Password

The methods above don't work at all. Eventually I used a paid tool - PCUnlocker Live CD, and it successfully bypassed my lost admin password.

  • Cannot enter password into Windows 8.1 login screen

I hve  brand new Pavilion 15-P016AX notebook, runnign Windows 8.1.
I have not used it, simply gone through the user setup and connected to th internet. I assume some HP and/or Windows updtes have probably installed themselves in the meantime, but that would be the only change from the factory settings.
On power-up, the first screen which comes up is the standard scren with a clock and the date. I click on this screen and a second screen appears, asking for my login password.
I can click in to the password box, but any typing on the keyboard does not result in any entry to the password box. No asterisks appear at all.
All other icons on this page are active, however. Even the icon (the right facing arrow) to submit the password is active.  I can submit the password, and I am told I have entered the wrong password. Other icons like the on/off icon are also active.
Now, if I put the notebook into sleep mode, then awaken it, the same startup routine happens, but this time I can enter the password and log on.
The onyl solution I can find is to disable passwords on my account, however I would prefer to have password protection.
    Any ideas?

I unplug the keyboard from it's USB  socket, then re-plug it into the same, or another USB socket. This always works for me. The problem only occurs during approx20% of my login attempts seemingly at random.  I  bought new keyboard but this made no difference. I have a "power on" password set (in the BIOS) on my computer. There is never a problem typing this. The problem only occurs at the Windows login screen. I understand that this problem has been around since Windows XP. Maybe Windows 10 will fix it - or maybe it won't.
I have an HP computer running Windows 8.1 that is set up to install updates automatically.

  • Fingerprint Reader not working upon waking from sleep for windows login

    Hello,
I have a brand new T540P with a Validity fingerprint reader.
Rougly 80% of the time, the Fingerprint reader is unresponsive at the windows login screen after waking the computer from sleep. It works 100% of the time when booting from an off position, however. Once logged in, it also works 100% of the time. The issue only arises when logging into windows.
    Things I have tried
-uninstalling/installing device in device manager and finger print manager pro software
-setting fingerprints through both fingerprint manager pro software (lenovo) OR through the built in windows fingerprint control panel options
-disabling "allow windows to turn off this device to save power" in device manager.
I should note as well that I have another T540P that I ordered as a replacement. Both models experience the same issue.
Is this a platform wide issue affecting all T540P models? This is frusterating.

    sailoholic
Your report is the first we have ever heard of this issue on T/W.  It does not happen on my T/W systems here (with or without 30 Day Standby enabled).  The other reports I heard of this problem came from X240.
I just want to confirm with you - the problem happens after coming out of Sleep (and not Hibernate), right?
Can you tell me exactly what you are doing?  e.g.
    1.  Use the computer normally (is AC attached or not?)
    2.  Close the lid - the computer goes to sleep  (or do you go to sleep some other way?)
    3.  Open the lid 2 hours later (or how long)?
    4.  are you using a dock?
The more info you can provide, the better.  Thanks for your help.
Also please let me know what BIOS version you have.
