That's exactly what I did. I bought the book and I try install on Win XP pro with SQL 2005 dev edition pre-installed.
I'm in possession of the Mini SAP, I own the book. I also looked at the site you suggested
http://www.sap-img.com/mini-sap.htm.
It seems to be I should be able to install on WIN XP pro due to the site above.
This is how a work
1) CD 1 starts with home page
2) I choose REsume (because I have already pre-installed the SQL 2005)
3) Setup starts
4) asks me which directory, it proposes C:\MBS -- I accept
5) It asks me where is the DATA and the KERNEL CD --- it proposes D: ---I accept
6) at the mean time I click on switch view and I see the logs and this is finally I get (I just copy/paste below the errors no the whole log)
So I don't know how to proceed further. I contacted SAP and they propose me this forums.
Could you please advice?

Hi,
Depending on which mini sap version you are trying to install. If you have 2 CD's, it means that it is an old version, for starting with 6.2 mini sap comes in 3 CD's (1 Kernel + 2 Database). As for the steps to install, just insert the kernel cd and an HTML file will pop up with the steps you need to do before, during and after the installation. Error while installing Mini SAP Basis system 4.6D test suite

I am getting error while installing Mini SAP Basis system 4.6D test suite on my laptop. I trying to install this version under Windows Xp. I tried so many times to rectify this error but no use. i followed the instruction in the readme file.The error is below in quote.
"InstController MakeStepsDeliver:108 connection to GUI of installation tool has been cut off.Installation has been stopped."

Trouble with installing Mini SAP 7.0 on a USB Harddisk

i have a problem with installing the Mini SAP 7.0 on my USB Harddisk.
The Installing Wizard is abort the Install by 17 %. I have the install wizard, about the night runnig, but nothing. 17 % is end.
Can me Help please.

No, its no Error Log on Display. The wizard end by 17 %.
On Wizard write, "Preparing packages for Installation"

there abort, and not reaktion. I musst restart, than is the Wizard going off.

Install Mini SAP and SQL 2005

Hi there,
I hope someone can help me with the question.
Ive bought the ABAP objects book called An Introduction to Programming SAP Applications from Horst Keller and Sascha Kruger (black color). There are 2 CD's to install the application Mini Basis SAP and work with the ABAP workbench. I was able to install that on a pc Win2000 and it worked and that pc had no sql server/database installed
But I've now another pc Windows XP and has has SQL 2005 Dev edition. I need to keep this.
My problem is when I try to install the Mini Basis I get error. Is it because of Ive already installed the Ms SQL 2005 dev edition?
Im using Windows XP prof edition. How can I install on XP pro this software on my pc keeping the SQL 2005?
I have tried resume_setup.bat and also enabled remote_services for the registry update. no hope.
Can someone please help?

How to install mini SAP in MS SQL Server 2005 Express?

Hi, is anyone know how to install the mini SAP v4.6 by using MS SQL Server 2005 Express?
I get error when connecting to the Database at 88% of the installation.
Please help. Thank you.

I do not think you can install miniSAP 4.6D on MS SQL server 2005 express.
1) you need the up todate patch to run on MSSE. If SAP did the work to allow it to run, it would be patch 55+. As supplied it is patch zero.
2) You can install on MSDE (MS SQL server 2000) patch 4. Look for my post INFO: Installing MiniSAP 4.6D on a named instance of MSDE (MS-SQL).
3) after the install on MSDE SP4 you would have to change the database code page to 'BIN2' look for the OSS note.
4) then you can start patching through to the most recent.
The main reason you cannot do this is MS have changed the version key format to include '.6' as extra info which SAP cannot interprate, too many dots.

Mini SAP 7.01 under Windows Vista

Hi every one,
I wanna share my experience with you for installing version 7.01 under Vista. This might help you.
I have installed the newest version ([Message from Klaus Keller| of Mini SAP under Windows Vista and, believe it or not, it all went correct. It is important that you download version Netweaver 7.01, since previous versions are not supported in Vista.
In the download section (http://www.sdn.sap.com/downloads/netweaver/abap/disclaimer.html) you find in file part 1 the description of process in a HTML & PDF file. You must pay much attention to what is described there; otherwise, it might happen that the installation process is not sucessful.
I´m not gonna describe the whole installation process. This is already in the download files. Just a reference of what I did:
1 ) make a backup of your information and have your Windows Vista disk at hand. It might happen that you have to format the computer´s hard disk if something goes wrong (this happened to me a couple of times in previous versions of Mini SAP and Windows XP). This is so, because it is impossible to erase some files and information in the registry (even with the Registry Clean Tool that is also downloadable in SDN). A new installation try was hopeless in those versions.
2) shut the firewall and antivirus off before you start.
3) don´t try to name your computer using special characters like - _ / & % and so on; additionally, name should be max. 13 characters long.
4) you need a user account for windows, even if you´re the only one to use the computer and you must assign a password to that user. You need it once you start the server through the SAP management console.
5) Install the Microsoft loopback adapter
once installed, system names it LAN-connection2 and you must asign a permanent IP address. Press button characteristics for its element Internet protocol version 4, where you enter:
IP-Address 10.10.0.10
Subnetwork mask 255.255.255.0
Don´t touch element Internet protocol version 6 !!
6) file hosts under c:windowssystem32driversetc --> add an entry for the host like this:

You must have administrator rights and change the status write-protected for being able to modify it.
7) Process takes less than 1 hour, mostly without user interference.
8) if desired, install Adobe LifeCycle Designer before starting with SAP GUI. It happened to me once (Windows XP) that the installed SAP GUI was erased during installation of LifeCycle. It all then turned into a big mess and I had better to format the hard disk.
9) install SAP GUI on your computer, which is part of the downloaded files.
If installation was sucessful, it might happen that you experience a problem when starting the application server (start --> SAP Netwaever 7.01 --> NSP --> Start application server). You get a red screen with a couple of error messages ([read my post|;). It is not a very serious problem, ´cause you can start the server with the SAP management console anyway.
Hope this helps you when installing Mini SAP 7.01 in your computer.

I am having a heck of a time with this install. My OS is Windows Vista Ultimate.
I've read and re-read several forums and tried all the recommendations.
I've tried installing many time now and each time the install runs to 19% and I get a message " stopping Xserver".
Then it runs to 20% and I get a message "preparing packages for installation".
Then it runs for about 3 seconds and I receive the following:

Problem in Logon to Mini SAP

Hello,
I have installed the Mini SAP with WAS 6.20 in my system, which has Windows XP. I was sucessfull in installing the Kernel CD and SAP GUI. So now the SAP logon icon appears on my desktop and i want to login. I have given the following details on it:
Description: Mini SAP
Application Server: hostname (as stated in the CD demo)
Systemnumber: 00(as stated in the CD demo)
So now the system appears on the logon and when i double click to the system to logon, it brings me an error.
Please do find the error:

Yes I did, but any how I have solved this problem. In SAP Logon the host name was wrong, it is not identical with my computer name.
Now I have another question, is this Mini SAP useful only for ABAP or can we use for Best practices for example Customizing HR, MM etc etc.

Hello Rudy,
I've installed SAP NetWeaver AS ABAP 2004s & encountered a similar problem when starting SAP Logon.
But upon a close look at my system configuration it revealed that my Full computer name (or host name) was 15 character long as opposed to SAP's recommendation of 13 characters.
You should also check that by examining My Computer's properties.
Once you are done with that, uninstall & reinstall SAP (It worked for me like that).

When i download the file however, i can't open it with WinRAR as it appears empty. Strange thing is these files take 1.5 hours to download. Has anyone else had this issue?

Routing to MINI SAP

Hi,
I have just installed MINI SAP 4.6D on a server. My server has a local ip in my router. I want to access application server over internet with SAP GUI 6.2. So, i will give the router's ip address, but it will redirect to my application server that is in my network. I think, I should enter the required ports into the router's interface.
Is my solution correct? If true, can you say which port should I redirect?

Can't start Mini SAP: error "MSG_SERVER died"

Hello!
I have succesfully installed Mini SAP version 4.6D. When I try to start it, I get error messages "MSG_SERVER died" and later "DISPATCHER died". I can't figure out what could be wrong. Please help!
Below is a detailed command-prompt and SLOG00 file content. Although the content of the SLOG00 file is to me completely unreadable, maybe it means something to someone. Or, is there any log viewer for this?
