InstallShield box opens after installing ITunes Update

I have repeatedly tried installing the disc that came with my ipod Nano. (I already had iTunes on the computer for an ipod Photo)Every time I open the iTunes program from the desktop shortcut, an InstallShield box opens up that reads: Command line parameters: /L Language ID (then a bunch of other / marks and text I do not understand. Is there a telephone # for an actual tech support, or has anyone else experienced problems updating over an older version of iTunes? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and also restoring the computer to previous restore points countless times. Thanks.

hi JModes!
Command line parameters: /L Language ID (then a bunch of other / marks and text I do not understand.
i haven't seen a "Command Line Parameters" reported for a wee while now. i guess that run of luck was bound to end eventually.
we don't know what causes it, but we've got a pretty reliable workaround. Google for and download a copy of WinRAR, and use WinRAR to open the iTunesSetup.exe (installer) file.
the free trial version of WinRAR has been working well for people for these purposes.
EDIT sorry Katrina! i didn't read your post properly. you had matters completely in hand.

  • Podcasts not downloading after installing iTunes update

I just installed the new update, and now NONE of my podcast sources are downloading. I have tried rebooting, and got the same result. I have never before had all of my regular sources unavailable at the same time. Anyone else having this problem after installing the update on a Mac?

ME TOO. Now I want to know how I can DOWNgrade iTunes.
Also, when I have left iTunes open for a while, I come back to it, and the window is all indecipherable garbage.
And don't waste your time. I have done it all, and nothing has helped. I either download podcast by painful podcast or I don't get anything at all.

  • Question about a log in Console after installing iTunes update

After installing iTunes I noticed these logs in Console:
    11/29/12 6:11:47.673 PM sudo[1485]: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/private/tmp/PKInstallSandbox.8WAxMg/Scripts/com.apple.pkg.MobileDevice.hTs dtR ; USER=XXXXXX ; COMMAND=/bin/launchctl load -w //System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.MDCrashReportd.plist
    11/29/12 6:11:47.691 PM sudo[1487]: root : TTY=unknown ; PWD=/private/tmp/PKInstallSandbox.8WAxMg/Scripts/com.apple.pkg.MobileDevice.hTs dtR ; USER=XXXXXX ; COMMAND=/bin/launchctl start com.apple.MDCrashReportd
I noticed that they have something to do with Crash Reporter, but are they a crash, or some command to the file during the install of the update? Any insight from someone who understands the terminal commands would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Scott

  • After installing itunes update I cannot open my itunes  music files.  How can I fix this problem?

I installed the latest Itunes update and after installing I cannot open my ITunes music files.  How do I fix this problem.

    Hey Joey BOD,
It sounds like you can't open your Music app on your iPhone after the update? First, try force closing the Music app if it is open in multitasking, which you can find out how to do here:
iOS: Force an app to close
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5137
And if that doesn't work, I would reset the device:
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
via: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1430
And if that doesn't resolve the issue then I would backup the device to iTunes and restore it. Just be cautious and back up first, since restoring deletes all content and settings:

  • Won't start up after installing iTunes update

After installing an iTunes update yesterday morning, I shut down my computer while I was gone all day. When I returned home and restarted it, I got the white Apple screen and gray wheel for an unusually long time, 30-45 seconds. Then the screen turned black and the following appeared:
    Sept 13 09:33:05 com.apple.inbindd: Bad System Call
Sept 13 09:33:05 com.apple.inbindd: respawning too quickly! throttling
Sept 13 09:33:05 com.apple.inbindd: 9 more failures without leaving at least 60 seconds will cause job removal
    Sept 13 09:33:05 com.apple.inbindd: will restart in 60 seconds
... some other prompts flashed up on the screen, too quickly to read what they said...this continues for at least 2 minutes before getting this message:
Sept 10 06:33:05 com.apple.inbindd: to many failures in succession
    Sept 10 06:33:05 localhost:/ root#
And then nothing happens. I found a ProBook user on another board who got the same error after installing an iTunes update, and restarting in 'safe mode' seemed to help him. I tried to follow the same instructions but they must be different for the iMac--holding down the shift key while restarting made no difference.

  • FCE 3.5 wouldn't open after installing Security Update 2008-007

Installed the update from Software Update like a good little girl, then couldn't open FCE, which is my main reason for owning the Mac. Don't remember the details. After it dawned on me that the update or my simpleminded approach to installing it was probably the cause of the malfunction, I rebooted from my Carbon Copy Clone, first time ever for real. After everything was demonstrably back to what passes for normal, I sent CCC another $25 to celebrate!
Now I have checked for updates and SU 2008-007 is still sitting there but I am afraid to try it again. How was I supposed to know about doing disc repairs and god knows what-all else before & after? And what else don't I know that will skunk me? Looks like there have been a number of problems on this forum traceable to SU 2008-007. Kind of like dear old Service Pack 2 on the PC...
What's the downside of NEVER installing the update? Or can somebody clarify for me how to do it safely?
    Thanks,
    Sharron

    Hi Sharronuss,
Let me give you my full method...
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.
The combo update for PowerPC-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateppc.html
The combo update for Intel-based Macs...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx10411comboupdateintel.html
Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
If all the above do not resolve the problem, then it's time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

  • After installing iTunes update I couldn't get into iTunes so I uninstalled but when I try to reinstall and click download now it goes right to thank you for downloading iTunes but nothing downloaded.

After installing the latest iTunes upgrade I could not access my iTunes so I uninstalled it and all of it's components like instructed in support but when I try to reinstall and click on download now, it goes right to thank you for downloading iTunes but nothing downloaded.

I'd first try downloading an installer from the Apple website using a different web browser:

  • Itunes won't open after Installing 9 update

I installed the Itunes 9 upgrade. It downloaded fine. Then when it was done, I clicked on Itunes on my dock to open it but it just bounced like it was going to open but then stops and nothing opens. Is this happening for anyone else? Any suggestions on what to do...

The same thing happened to me where the icon "bounces," but iTunes won't open.
So apparently I don't have the right version of OSX for the program. OK. So what to do I to get back my old iTunes?
I'm a little ****** about this because I feel like a warning should have popped up somewhere during the installation process telling me my system wouldn't accommodate the new iTunes.
Secondly, I'm ****** off at myself because all of this trouble was caused by trying to download an episode of freakin' "Top Chef." Why on earth would the show require the newest version of iTunes?

  • File Vault will not open after Safari/ITunes update

I just ran an update for Safari, ITunes, and Security, and after restart, I get the following after entering my password: "Your FileVault-Protected home folder did not open, and needs to be repaired. Click ok to repair, or cancel to cancel login"
Obviously, I clicked "Ok" to repair. and I got this message: "you are unable to log in to the user account XXXXX at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred"
    And that's ALL it does.
    Any suggestions?

I had the EXACT same thing happen. I ran those three updates, restarted and got the message you did. I talked to a 1-800 tech then had an appointment at the local Genius Bar today. They told me in order to recover the files in my user folder I will have to connect to another Mac HD via firewire and access the user folder by entering my FileVault password. Trouble is .... I don't have a Filevault password. I never set it up for fear I wouldn't remember the password and get locked out of my computer. Well, looks like Apple did it to me in spite of my best intentions.

  • After installing itunes 10.5 itunes wont open it says i have an error , i need help so i can update my ipod , HELP!!

after instaling itunes 10.5 i cant open itunes , my pc says its an error . . what do i do  ?

In order to download iTunes 10.7, which requires OS X 10.6.8, you have to buy OS X 10.6. It's available from the online Apple store, in the US by calling 800-MY-APPLE, or online here.  After OS X 10.6 installation, run Software Update until there are no more updates available, at which point you'll be at OS X 10.6.8 and can install iTunes 10.7.

  • ITunes won't open after install

after installing the update for iTunes, it doesn't run (comp makes noises but nothing comes up on screen). when i open task manager itunes is running as a process, but i can't end process.
I have tried all the fixes suggested by other threads; installing the standalone quicktime, running msconfig, searching for malware, setting up norton to allow itunes and disabling it during install. I followed the instructions for the complete uninstall and tried to reinstall, didn't work. I then did another complete uninstall and installed an older version of iTunes 6 from the cd i got with my iPod, still doesn't work!!
i am at a loss with this, hopefully the next release will fix this issue.
any response would be greatly appreciated

    hi Shaun!

hmmm. okay, Norton is still our prime suspect here. that "running itunes.exe process that will not die" symptom is associated with the nastier versions of the NIS 2005 launch suppression problems. (people who get that also often see things like looooooong sloooooow shutdown times on the PCs and odd end program dialog boxes.)
let's try throwing the trusty Lorraine M technique at the beast. (it usually fixes the nastier versions of the NIS 2005 problems.)
