Instance Creation on Secondary Site with Mirroring as DR Mechanism

Hello all..........I am trying to create a multi-site failover cluster (Sql Server 2012).  Due to some support issues, I am unable to use AOAG, so I have decided to use Mirroring among two-2 locations with each
location holding separates instances.  Consider following:
There is Location A and B.
There are two-2 servers each in Location A and B.  They have their own storage.
Location A already has two-2 node failover cluster.  It has instance named Instance_A.
We need to introduce two-2 nodes from Location B to the failover cluster in Location A with its separate instance named Instance_B? How can I make it work?
If I go ahead with the setup.exe from SQL media and try to add node, it will ask me to choose the instance and the only instance available would be Instance_A, but I do not want it to connect to Instance_A.  I
want to join the two-2 nodes in Location B to the failover cluster in a way that Instance_B stays on Location B servers and Instance_A stays on Location A servers.  So that I can configure mirroring among the two.  I would appreciate headway into
this.  Thanks.

Hi Technet Junkie,
For multisite cluster, failover cluster not “aware” the shared storage replicate, therefore you must ask your storage vendor for the multisite storage replicate solution, In
SQL Server 2008 support multi-instances in one cluster environment. The method used to install a new SQL Server 2008 cluster instance is the same with the first one. The detail steps to fulfill that, please refer to the document: How to: Create a New SQL Server
Failover Cluster (Setup): http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms179530.aspx
Based on my experience, there is one thing we need to pay attention. It is the instance ID. In SQL Server 2008, the instance ID decides not only the instance Name but also the
folder path name on the disk. Please make sure the instance ID for one instance is identical on the nodes, but different with the other instance.

  • Replace secondary site with distribution point

I have a client that would like to remove some unnecessary secondary sites and replace them with distribution points on the same hardware. Is there a built-in way of doing this from the SCCM console? What should be taken into consideration before doing
    such a thing?
Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread. ”

No there is no built in way to do this. It's essentially an uninstall (of the Secondary site components) and an fresh install of the DP. Content and boundaries are the only real considerations; you may want to use pre-staged content to essentially
cache a local copy so that it doesn't have to be replicated across the WAN. Technically, if you leave the sccmcontentlib in place, it may be able to reuse this but that's not supported so it may or may not work.

These new secondary sites are off of a new primary site in another region.  In region 1, secondary site creation had no issues. I am unsure where to go from here.  I have tried deleting the secondary sites and removing all installed applications
and running through creation again.  I have also tried recreating with different site codes.  Installation appears to complete successfully and I can see my sites in ADSIEdit.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary site server will support the DMZ Zone?

We are planning for SCCM 2012 Migration, currently we have separate Primary server in DMZ.
Kindly suggest what is the best method to deploy in the DMZ (separate primary or secondary or DP) because we have only 500 Client in DMZ.

    Hi,
There is a blog talking about this error. You could try the method in the blog.
To summarise, when installing SCCM 2012 SP1 secondary site on a pre-configured SQL 2012 instance regardless which SQL edition is being used, “NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM” account needs to be given
securityadmin and sysadmin rights. If SQL Express is used, there are few additional steps need to be carried out to configure the SQL TCP connection as documented in my previous blog:
    http://blog.tyang.org/2012/04/09/installing-sccm-2012-rtm-secondary-site-using-a-pre-installed-sql-express-2008-r2-instance/

  • Uninstalling Secondary Site Server through SW Delivery fails

    We have migrated to SCCM2012
and now need to uninstall our
    SCCM 2007 Secondary Siteserver.
Since we have 300 Secondary Site Server
    in the Hirarchy, the uninstall
of the software must be distributed.
We have to create a task sequence,
in which the following steps are
    performed:
Put the server in the SCOM
    Maintenance Mode
    Stop SCCM services SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER
    and SMS_EXECUTIVE
Uninstalling the Secondary Siteserver with the
    Command "{install path} \setup.exe /deinstall"
Cleanup of folders and files that are left
    Restarting the Server
Take server out of the SCOM
    Maintenance Mode
The uninstallation works well on all Windows Server 2008 R2 Server. But not on the Windows Server 2003. There we get errors "Failed to open key Software\Microsoft\SMS\47006C006F00620061006C005C007B00350031004100300031003600420036002D0046003000440045002D0034003700350032002D0042003900370043002D003500340045003600460033003800360041003900310032007D00\SMSTS"
and "MP name must be set in an environment variable" and "Fatal error is returned in execution of the action (Uninstall Secondary Site). The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002; Source: Windows)".
After this errors, the Task Sequence Deployment aborts.
Has anybody a solution for this situation?

    Hi,
When removing a secondary site using the Delete Secondary Site Wizard, you must choose whether to delete or uninstall the secondary
    site:
Deleting the site will delete all information about the site and its resources from the Configuration Manager site database at its
parent site, but it will leave the Configuration Manager secondary site installed on the secondary site computer. Select this option if you have already manually uninstalled the secondary site using Configuration Manager Setup at the secondary site computer.
When Configuration Manager 2007 sites are deleted, the deleted site information is only deleted from the deleted site's direct parent site. Site deletion
information is not propagated up the hierarchy to grandparent sites. In order to delete the site from the site database at sites above the deleted site's direct parent site, the hierarchy maintenance tool (Preinst.exe) must be run on every primary site above
the deleted site's parent primary site using the command Preinst /delsite. For more information about the hierarchy maintenance tool, see
    Hierarchy Maintenance Tool (Preinst.exe).
    Refer to:
How to Remove a Secondary Site Using the Configuration Manager Console

  • Huge Sized download taking place at port 8530 between clients and WSUS\SUP of secondary site

    Hi Guy's
Need a solution to the issue, the SCCM 2012 clients under a secondary site { Secondary site with SUP\WSUS } are downloading 200Mb + data at port 8530. This seems quite abnormal.
Need to know answer of below
1- Actual size of catalog what clients should download or path where on WSUS is stored
2- How to restrict a huge sized download between WSUS and CM 2012 client
This is not the case where clients are directly reporting to Primary size.
    Regards

    Regards Sushain KApoor

    Hi Jason
Just a little clarity, will the client download information for a particular product or all the products selected in wsus.
Eg: Windows 7 systems will download the catalog information of Windows 7 only against selections made in WSUS. Or it will download the windows XP and windows vista and other product information also. This particular question i am asking as i see only 300
updates as found in windowsupdate.log and not the thousands synced in WSUS
Is the update metadata exported using the wsusutil.exe the actual catalog size what clients are downloading

  • Secondary Site Distribution Points content flow

We are implementing an environment that contains over 750 locations with distribution points.  With the limitation of 250 DPs per site, we are going to have to put DPs under secondary sites.
In preparation for this configuration we would like to have a better understanding of how the content will flow to the lower level DPs (under secondary sites).  We are aware that content
being sent to a dp on a secondary site server is compressed at the primary, sent to the secondary and uncompressed.  Here are our questions:
    1.  Will the content for lower level DPs, under the secondary Site, receive its content directly from the primary site DP, or the Secondary Site DP?
    2.  Will the content for the lower level DPs be compressed, sent and uncompressed (from the primary or secondary)?
This information will help determine the network configuration we use to limit our WAN traffic.
I appreciate any insight into these questions you can provide.
    Thanks.

Sorry, but can someone explain #1 more detail?
I have Secondary Site with multiple DPs.
If I distribute the content to only 1 DP at Secondary site (not pull DPs), will the content distribute to the Secondary Site server first, then to the DP? Does the content also available at the SS Server?
Does the data flow like: Primary Site -> Secondary Site -> DP ?

  • Clients in Secondary Sites

    Hi all,
Reading the docs on CM12 it states that:
Secondary Sites can support up to 5000 clients
DPs can support up to 4000 clients
Secondary Sites can have up to 250 DPs
    However, this confuses me.
Assuming clients use content boundaries, and not assignment boundaries, to know to use the MP in my Secondary, if I was to put 250 DPs under 1 Secondary Site, my DPs could support up to 1M clients connecting (250 DPs x 4000 clients) but the site server itself
could only support 5000? So I would have to have multiple boundaries for the Secondary, a max of 4000 clients in the boundary for my DP/MP of my Secondary site server and all other boundaries going to the 250 DPs?
Or do clients work out whether to use a Secondary Site MP a different way?
    http://nikifoster.blogspot.com/

Hi Jason, apologies I used the above extreme example just to show a point. Why bother supporting 250 DPs under a Secondary site, if that Secondary site can only support 5000 clients? I guess there may be other reasons why you might
need to use many DPs though and you could also use the same argument with a Primary site.
The reason this came up is because currently I have an SCCM 2007 Primary site, which has 20,000 clients connecting to its 6 DPs for content. When we move to CM12, I was planning on changing it to a Secondary site with 5 or 6 DPs but if I do this, as
I understand it, that would mean that those 20,000 would use the DPs for content but also use the Secondary site MP. This would then bring it outside of support for Secondary sites.
    So I suppose I have 3 options:
Use a Primary site in that location, with multiple DPs (not desired and won't happen)
Use a Secondary site with multiple DPs but separate out the Secondary site and its DPs into different boundary groups, ensuring the boundary group used by the SS has no more than 5000 clients (complex and probably won't happen). I'm not even sure if this
    will work either.
Use multiple DPs (and/or pull DPs) from the higher level Primary site. This obviously means I can't control client policy data or client data that is uploaded. I guess I will have to use this.
Is that about right? Have I missed any other options?
    Thanks
    Nik

  • Help with removing unavailable secondary site

I created a SCCM 2012 SP1 CU4 secondary site and remove it also.
Now my primary server eventlog is full with messages like: (about 10 each
The activated proc '[dbo].[spRCMActivation]' running on queue 'CM_PRI.dbo.ConfigMgrRCMQueue' output the following: 'ERROR Sending SSB Message from: ConfigMgrRCM_SitePRI to ConfigMgrRCM_SiteSEC SQL Error: 50000 SQL Message: ERROR 50000, Level 16, State 1, Procedure spGetSSBDialogHandle, Line 58, Message: Route is not defined for target site with service name ConfigMgrRCM_SiteSEC.'
I found out then in SQL Management Console CM_PRI\Service Broker\Queues\dbo.ConfigMgrRCMQueue was disabled.
When enabling, it will be disabled again....what I also saw is that in the queue (select * FROM [CM_PRI].[dbo].[ConfigMgrRCMQueue]) messages are related to the secondary which is not available anymore. How do I get rid of those queued messages ?
Due to this bahaviour my other secondaries links are down now :-(
Please help, how can i solve this quick ?

I uninstalled the site from the console which worked fine. Preinst /delsite SEC also tells me site is removed. However my application event log on the primary is full of errors. When investigating this I saw an entry in the SQL queue which cause this I
think. So how can I remove this entry from the ConfigMgrRCMQueue queue in SQL. Now this queue is disabled ! Which caused my links to be down to all other secondaries.

  • ZTI With Secondary Sites

    Folks,
i have a client that have One primary site and 20 Secondary sites and other branches,
so i am trying to implement ZTI solution to cover all these sites,
so what is the implementation process that will cover all these sites?
Samer F. Mustafa Microsoft Technical Team Leader. [email protected]

PXE is a separate issue that really is unrelated to secondary sites.
Yes, clients must be able to locate a PXE server if you are using PXE -- OSD does not require PXE though. The best method for PXE server location is IPHelpers though and you should always use and prefer these over DHCP scope for multiple reasons.
As with all other content, use pre-staging to copy the content out-of-band:

  • Replacing Secondary Site server with a new oneA

I have Secondary site running on Windows 2008 R2, but the server has some issue and i need to install a new secondary server.
The location is remote and Bandwidth a concern so i do not want all the packages to go over to the new Secondary Site /DP
Since the current Secondary site server is still alive , i want to take as much as from it .
Anyone has some suggestion on how i could accomplish this.

There's no built in way to do this in 2007; however, you should be able to use the preload package tool:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/configurationmgr/archive/2009/05/07/configmgr-2007-the-preload-package-tool-preloadpkgonsite-exe-explained.aspx . Using this tool, you can copy the pick files from the existing secondary to the new secondary site server.
