Instant client on windows 2000, path problems

I have successfully installed the client and all work fine. But from time to time for no apparent reason php script gives an error
"Warning oci_connect (): OCIEnvNlsCreate () failed. There is something wrong with your system - please check that PATH includes the directory with Oracle Instant Client libraries."
I checked the environment variables, they are correct.
If you restart Apache, everything starts to work fine. What may be the problem?

I agree, but this is for the QA group and they generally test the app and access the DB using app only but now for some certain modules they want to check the data in the database but they dont know how to write SQL so they decided to use microsoft sql writer (I never used it :) ) and for that they want to setup odbc and for that they need client, so they are not going to use sqlplus and that why I just wanna install instant client on their desktops.

Having a program means you need a dev environment to compile, link and then test it with your instant client env.
I would suggest you download sqlplus ZIP and connect to a DB server.

Windows 7 Client with Windows 2000 server

Hi ,
We are having an application developed in Delphi 6 and hosted in Windows 2000 server(sp4) .Recently we have migrated all our clients to windows 7 from XP. Since then we are getting Access Violation error whenever we are using the application.
We are accessing the application through RDP (Remote Desktop ) from Win 7 Clients to Windows 2000 server.
Could any body help me how to resolve this issue as this is stopping the business.

As Windows 7 uses NTLM2 by default, please try to set it to “Send LM & NTLM – Use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”
How to:
Open secpol.msc -> local policies -> security options -> Network security: LAN Manager authentication level.

Windows 2000 boot problem

I have just moved my system to the new MX-6585 board - Did an Windows 2000 "upgrade" to initiate total hardware scan.
System works ok, when it has booted, but booting is sooo slow.
Found a Microsoft article describing the problem:
SYMPTOMS
After you choose to start Windows from the Boot menu, you may experience a long delay (or pause) before your computer finishes starting. Note that this delay may range from 10 seconds to a minute. Also, this delay occurs before the Starting Windows progress bar appears, and your computer may appear to stop responding (hang) during this time.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if Windows is installed on a drive or a partition to which Windows cannot gain access with normal Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) INT-13 or INT-13 extension calls. When Windows Setup determines it cannot use BIOS calls to start, it uses scsi() or signature() syntax in the Boot.ini file instead of multi() syntax.
My question is: Does MX-6585/BIOS in any way hinder the INT-13 calls to my Adaptec 2940???

There are no IDE devices in my system, only SCSI. My hd is an IBM Ultrastar 36XP DRHS-36D. When I start the system up, the SCSI & MSI BIOS screens display normally, then BOOT.INI appears. After I select one of my NT-type OS's (NT4, W2K, WXP), there is a 30-second delay between the time I press the Enter key at the BOOT.INI screen and the time the OS actually starts to boot. (The BOOT.INI countdown time is limited to 5 seconds. I am *not* talking about this time.)
Since the same hardware was transferred from another installation (with a non-MSI mb) in which the same Adaptec drivers were used but this 30-second delay did not occur, the delay appears to be due to the MSI BIOS. Interestingly, W98 is also installed on this hd and it appears in the BOOT.INI list. When I start up W98, the 30-second delay does not occur -- as soon as I press the Enter key, W98 starts to boot.

I'd estimate our chances of success at 1%. Still, it's far better to complain and not be heard than never complain. That way, we get to complain even more.

Oracle 8i Client Setup - Windows 2000

We have just installed Oracle 8i on a Windows NT server, and are using the standard LISTENER configuration.
On the client side, we are trying to use Windows 2000. When the install process goes through the setup routine, it keeps wanting to use NAMES SERVER as the way to connect to the server.
There does not appear to be anything that we are doing that would change this set up, ad yet, we can not seem to generate a TNSNAMES.ORA files on the client.
ARe there any known problems with using a Windows2000 client to a WindowsNt server, and if not, what advice might anyone have?

I have windows 8 x64, oracle instant client basic-nt 12.1.0.1.0 and launch error "Error while trying to retrieve text for error ORA-01019."
PS: It works fine with same settings of environment variables on windows 7 (ORACLE_HOME, TNS_ADMIN, PATH).

Windows 2000 connection problems (solved)

I have a Windows 2000 box that was working fine with DSL and cable but when we moved and got FiOS, it didn't work. It has a RealTek RTL 8139(a) PCI fast controller built in to the motherboard that is connected to the port of the back of the Westell 9100em router. The symptoms were very strange: I could ping the router and load the router web page. However, I could not load any webpages outside of the router. DNS was working (lookups were fine and fast) but it seemed like no packets ever came back to me - it was like the TTL was set too small or something - they just died in the ether. Traceroutes would get about a dozen hops out and then time-out. I figured there was a problem with the ethernet controller, so I switched to a 10/100 Hawking USB-to-ethernet adapter. However, this showed the same problem. Then, I switched to a USB wireless adapter. Again, same problem. At this point, it was a total mystery. There didn't seem to be a problem with a particular adapter and I knew it wasn't a problem with FiOS since I had multiple wired and wireless machines (XP,Mac,Linux) in the house with no problems whatsoever.
I had read on these forums some problems people were having with RealTek 8139 adapters: http://forums.verizon.com/t5/FiOS-Internet/Problems-with-the-Fios-20-5-connection-speed-in-my-area-d... so I did a google search on "windows 2000 realtek fios" and found this: http://www.testmy.net/t-19923 This was exactly the same problem I was having, so I did what was suggested: Uninstall TCP/IP and the Microsoft services/clients from the ethernet adapter, reboot, then reinstall the protocols and services... And it worked! I can now load up web pages with no problems.
Even though I was a 25/15 customer, I was pretty happy to get a 7/7 service (according to Verizon's speed tests) after not being able to get any http connection at all previously. For the heck of it, I tried the speed optimizer tool: http://www2.verizon.net/help/fios_settings/optimizer/ After rebooting the machine, I am now getting 25 down and 23 up on Verizon's test and 26 down and 13 up according to the speakeasy test.
I guess the lesson for me is that FiOS is unlike DSL or cable - you might not be able to just plug your computer in and have it work optimally or work at all. But if you tweak it just right, it works pretty well

Instant client AIX library search paths

If you use the AIX "dump -H" command against the various Instant Client libraries, you'll notice that some non-existant paths (from the original build) are included.
For example:
$ dump -H libclntsh.a
shows a library search path of:
/b/114/lib:/usr/lib:/lib
This can create security problems, particulary with set-uid programs which link against such libraries.
When you next build your AIX libraries, you may wish to use the "-bnolibpath" or perhaps an explicit "-blibpath" directive with the loader.

Unable to install 64-bit Oracle ODBC Instant Client on Windows 2008 R2 machine.

I am trying to upgrade the Oracle ODBC driver from the 32-bit version currently installed (ODBC Instant Client Release 10.1.0.5.0, April 2006) to a newer 64-bit version but have not been successful. I have had success at uninstalling and reinstalling the existing 32-bit version package (release 10.1.0.5.0) however when I've tried to install the 64-bit ODBC Instant Client (Release 12.1, December 2012), I run the odbc_install.exe application inside the package. it appears to run without issue/compliant, but then I do not see the 64-bit Oracle ODBC driver anywhere, either if I go via the traditional Administrator Tools --> ODBC Data Sources or if I go to the c:\windows\syswow64\odbcad32.exe route. Further investigation into the ReadMe file (ODBC_IC_Readme_Win.html) reveals that you need the 3 DLLs oci.dll, oraociei11.dll and orannzsbb11.dll which the package does not come with. Where could I obtain the correct version of these DLLs or else where can I get an installation package which already contains them?
Any help with this is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Instant client on windows 2008 r2

Hi,
I've downloaded the zip files and followed the instructions here http://arswiki.org/wiki/Oracle_Instant_Client_-_Installing
For some reason I can't launch sqlplus.exe as it keeps crashing. I just get Oracle SQL*PLUs has stopped working, check online for a solution or close the program. I need to be able to install instant client version 10 on windows 2008 R2 successfully. Please help. Thanks.
ps: I've downloaded the zip files in 64bit also.

Where is ODBC? Is there a separate driver install?
Description mentions "Basic: All files required to run OCI, OCCI, and JDBC-OCI applications (and ODBC on Windows)". But the two (or is it three) driver files are missing form the archive and moreover you would need the .reg info to configure odbc datasources.

I know how to setup instant client on unix but I need to setup this on windows so that the dev can access the database using odbc, I just want to install the basic + odbc libraries and I have downloaded them too. But can anyone tell me what env varables do I need to configure on windows in order to get it working.
Mainly I want to configure one tnsnames.ora which I can refer while creating the DSN to use odbc.

Netbeans and Windows 2000 Server Problems

I've tried to run netbeans on my windows 2000 server OS a few times. It usually doesn't work out and I have to go back to pcGrasp.
Does anyone out there know of any issues between netbeans and this OS. Is it worth it. I'd like to move away from the .net world and learn j2EE but I'd like to move up my IDE. Netbeans seems like the best choice. Does any experienced individuals out there know of a better one?
This was my latest error with netbeans. From just opening a folder??? I also tried to report it - I still have to wait another hour after I registered before I could HOPEFULLY find where exactly I can report it. Maybe thats why there are so many bugs. They make it impossible to report something they tell you to report to help out.

I would suggest,
- ensure you have all windows updates.
- ensure you have JDK 1.4.2_04
- try eclipse which is also free (From IBM) http://www.eclipse.org/

Installing Webi Rich Client on Windows 2000 PC

I have a client who has Windows 2000 PC's and would like to install the webi rich client. I appreciate that this isn't one of the operating systems in the supported platforms document, however is there a way /workaround to install the webi rich client on a Windows 2000 PC?
