Instant Messaging Client that works without data plan
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone knew of an instant messaging client that works without a data plan (ie. Wi-Fi only)?
The native GTalk only works with a data plan and a multi protocol one like IMO.I'm only works with a data plan.
Thanks,
gajariam
the "MSN Messenger" is now called "Windows Live Messenger", and will be retired by Microsoft before april 2013 (source: http://blogs.skype.com/en/2012/11/skypewlm.html ), and your current contacts will be merged with Skype.
Unfortunately, there is currently no Skype client from Microsoft or from RIM released for BlackBerry devices. There are some third party softwares that enable you to benefit from Skype IM, but personally I have no reason to trust them and give them my credentials to skype/WLM.
So for a long-time forecast, I do not encourage you to go through the WLM path.
and about Google Talk, I do not know if using BIS is part of the requirements.
my advice is to ask the carriers in your country if they have a small package voice+sms+BBm.

Instant Message client - server communication
Hi,
I am writing an instant message application that has central server and many connected clients. When one client writes a message to the server, the server echoes the message to all concerned clients
My server is a servlet, running on a J2EE web server. My client should run on Windows operating system and communicate with the WIN32 API.
My problem is:
The server is written in JAVA and my client should use the WIN32 API (in order to add its icon to the Windows tray for instance). How should I perform the client - server communication? What protocol/technology should I use? Should I write my client in C++ and from the server open a socket and perform HTTP requests? It looks too low level to me and not the right approach. Does it make sense to write my client in java and let it use JNI? And if yes, what is the preferred way of client server communication?
Is there any good reference I can use?
ThanksThe both alternates you are thinking over are fine. But the later one may cause some performance and memory issues.
If you want to go with the first alternate, I suggest you to develope your owen server using ServerSocket and use your own protocol for communication between client and server over the sockets. Because using HTTP protocol will slow down your entire application. It adds overhead because each request passes through the servlet container. -
App Store is not working in Data plan in iPhone 4s
In my New iPhone 4s App Store is not working in Data plan.Even though i have restarted still the same problem persisits.
And also If I turn off some apps(Settings-->Use Cellulalar data for ) by using Cellular data for those are not working

Try this... install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo
Then restart your Mac.
Launch the App Store.
Check the round flag icon bottom left corner of the iTunes window to make sure the correct country is selected. If not, click the flag then select Malaysia.
It's ok to install the combo even though you are already running v10.6.8. -

I have the labview TCP/IP client/server working fine, but now I need to do this were labview is the TCP/IP server and the c++ program is the client. Does anybody have a simple C++ TCP/IP client that works with labview TCP/IP server ????
Thanks, you were right, we modified the c++ program to include the port # in the IP address and it worked. We also forgot to convert the port #. I included my labview and c++ program.

Q10 BBM works in wifi without data plan
Hi there,
Planning to buy a BB Q10.. i heard some news that Blackberry Q10 BBM works in wifi even without dataplan? please confirmed.. Thank youYES, normally the new devices are fully functional on WI-FI.
Of course a data plan provides you with more mobility... but not more functionalities.
Please don't forget to mark as "solved" if your question is replied and to "like" a useful reply to your post ;-) -
Just picked up a curve (aka 'learning curve' hehe) and I am having a hard time trying to configure for webmail . I do not have the 'configure internet email' option on the phone, only the enterprise server option. After reading way too many websites my impression is this function is controlled by the service provider. If you do not have BIS or some kind of BB data plan then you cannot use web based email thru the BB email function (you can check webmail thru a browser if you really want to be uber-frustrated). I found one post that alluded to this way back in 2009 or something. Can someone confirm this is still the case in 2013? This would save me and possible thousands of others looking for the same thing. If you have a data plan then this function would be available.
Let's hope 10 is way more user friendly!
Cheers.Hi dimwit
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Forums
Still now if you want to use Personal Email Services you need a BlackBerry Data Plan / BIS on your account .Most application works over WIFI without an active BIS but a few like BBM, Email services require a BlackBerry Data Plan.

As we all heard BlackBerry 10 don't need any BlackBerry Data Plan on our account.

Instant Messaging no longer works for me..why?
Instant Message came pre-loaded on my iPad 2 when purchased over 2 years ago. Always worked. Ever since downloading IOS7 and related fix-packs, no longer works. Ive gone to Settings and what I see does NOT match the directions apple.support. What is going on? Do I need a reloaded app from the Appke Store? If so, which one? Maybe I need an appt with my local apple store for a look-see. Yes, I've shut the iPad down altogether and brought it back up but it still is not working. So annoying,
Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

There is a message that says something like "Unrecognised SIM" but the Voice works. Data just doesn't work.
You have to change the APN to match the carrier settings in that region.

Which apps allow to make free call from outside US to US Cellphone without data plan?
Hi Everyone,
I am using Iphone 4 and I live in India.
I have few friends in USA and I want to make a call to them.
The problem is that they do not have any smartphone so I can't use any peer to peer system or Apps like Skype, Fringe, Viber etc etc.
I am looking for the names of an Apps which i can use to call from India to USA but In USA my friend don't have smartphone so I can be able to make a call on cellphone in USA without any data plan.
Please give me the names of those kind of Apps...
Thanks in Advance..
Thanks
Hemu7310Assuming you have an Internet connection of some sort from your iPhone, you should be able to use any Voice-Over-IP service, such as the ones you mention. Skype, at least, allows calls to standard telephones, but such calls are not free. You will need to consult the services' pricing to know what it will cost.

Does the push email work if you do not have a data plan?
Looks like you need a cellular data plan in order for "push" to work on the iPhone. I have tried both mobileMe and Yahoo push mail when on only a WiFi connection(in Airplane mode or in an area without coverage).. Looks like the iPhones push features don't work without a cellular connection

Is there a mail client that works with exchange 2003?
my company Exchange is 2003 and neither Outlook 2011 or Mail work. Is there a way to make either of these work without upgrading Exchange? Is there another email client that might work?
ThanksOSX's Mail uses the Exchange Web Services (EWS) protocol, which is only available on Exchange 2007 and later. Outlook 2011 relies on OSX for connectivity to Exchange, so that is why Outlook 2011 doesn't work either. As stated, if you can get your IR department to enable IMAP, you can get email funtionality. (No calendar or contacts.)
There is Davmail. I'm told that it's still a bit buggy, but AFAIK, it is the only thing that would do what you want. As mentioned by Glenn, I also recommend that you suggest to the company to upgrade the version of Exchange, mostly due to Microsoft ending mainstream support for Exchange 2003 back in 2009 (with extended support only for SP2 for an indeterminate amound of time.) As a bonus, Exchange 2010 supports Safari for OWA, which is a good indication that Microsoft is at least making attempts at better Mac support. -
.. I am currently in a class for java programming, and the such, so I have an understanding of the outline of java, and a desent amount of its workings... this is my second year with it, and my third class.
ok... to my point. I want to write an instant message program the I can use for 2 people... as in me and my brother, on the same network.
we are in the same house, but I wanted to experiment with it, and see what I can get it to do and things of that nature.
I was looking at the knock knock client server app, to see what ind of things it implimented, and method calls and the such.
What would I need exactly to send a message from one computer to the next, and vice versa.
I know I need to open a socket, and have the client server listen for a connection. but how do I get the message to send to it?The both alternates you are thinking over are fine. But the later one may cause some performance and memory issues.
If you want to go with the first alternate, I suggest you to develope your owen server using ServerSocket and use your own protocol for communication between client and server over the sockets.
