Instant shutdown and reboot on Satellite P100-347

My satellite P100-347 keeps shutting down instantly then restarting. Any solutions becuase its still new and very expensive for a replacement.

Hi there,
it seems your machine is overheating and then it makes a shutdown because of hardware security reasons.
You said it happened when playing NFS carbon, this is a good sign for a heat problem of cpu/vga.
I suggest you to clean your fan and your cooling system, because when its clobbed with dust the system can not be properly cooled and it has to shutdown to prevent severe damage to your precious hardware. Just take a can with compressed air and clean your cooling system (but be gently, otherwise you will damage the fan which transport the air which is heated from cpu/vga)
Just a question: which drivers are installed for your vga? Do you have the original toshiba display drivers? If not, then the problem is self explaining because the timings of the original drivers from nvidia/ati are not suitable for mobile computers.

  • Satellite P100-347 - problem with shutdown during gameplay

i have a problem with my Satellite P100-347(pspa6e)
After about 10 minutes playtime with games like battlefield 2, the SIMS2 and so on.. my pc shuts down...
I suspected it was shutting down because of high gpu or cpu temp...
i could feel that my notebook was hot, but after playing for a while its normal...
so i installed HWmonitor to check my gpu,cpu and hdd temp...
    this is what i shows:
    THRM: 61.C - 141.F
    CPU: core0\1 - both 64.C - 147.F
    GPU: runs at stable 85 - 90.C
    this at normal use...not games....
    HDD: 39.C
Something has to be wrong!! gpu temp has to be too high?!?
i have tried a fresh OS install....
thnx for all answers and help!

    Hello
I agree with Akuma. The fact is that suddenly shutdowns are mostly caused by too high temperature and shutdown is actually reaction for ??hardware protection??.
So what you should do is to clean up the cooling grill.
There is just one problem: if this should be done properly the notebook must be disassembled. So the question is how you want to do this?
At the moment, try to place your notebook on higher position, maybe on 4 books to make more distance between the notebook and the desk. I just hope the air circulation will be better and you will be able to play a little bit longer. Please test it and let us know what will happen.

  • Satellite P100-347: Blue screen appears on start up - unable to boot volume

Recently I left my 2 younger brothers playing NFS Carbon on my satellite P100-347, preinstalled with media centre 2005 edition, and now it fails to startup.
During the startup process eventually a blue screen is displayed for about a second and then it shutsdown (I manged to make out the words "unable to boot volume" from the blue screen).
I tried booting with an XP media centre DVD but it only gives me an option of reinstalling the OS with a price of losing all my very important data. Normally I would have recovered the system but I don't want to lose my data.
Is there anything i can do other than taking it to a technician?

    Hi
Well, mostly the BSOD appears due to a hardware problem or serious software issue.
In your case the software problem is possible
Unfortunately, I think the new OS installation is the best way to get the notebook running correctly.
Now you want to know how to save the data and files well, I think you should remove the HDD from notebook and should try to connect the 2.5 HDD via external USB controller to another computer. Then you could save the files on the other HDD
I think, now you know that the regular backups are important and necessary!!!!

  • Cannot find Windows Vista 32bit Drivers for my Satellite P100-347

    Hi,
I did a fresh installation of Vista Ultimate 32-bit on my Satellite P100-347 and on going to the driver download page, the vista drivers are no longer there!
Unfortunately without those drivers the laptop's performance isn't optimum. Does this mean Toshiba doesn't support my laptop model anymore? I hope not!
Could someone please point me in the correct direction!

Someone posted, that it may be server maintenance. I found a couple of posts asking for the same.

  • DVD drive does not burn/erase rewritables - Satellite P100-347

    Hello,
I have purchased a Toshiba Satellite p100-347 PSPA6E laptop. It has a DVD Burner with model number: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GMA-4082N (firmware pt06). It has capabilities to burn all types of dvds (please see example using dvdino: http://tinyurl.com/2hbpqv ).
However, i cannot rewrite on my Maxell dvd+rw (1.4x speed) dvd. everytime i go to a software application to erase a dvd i've written on, it says format not recognised. For example Nero says "This disc is not rewritable and therefore cannot be erased. Please insert a rewritable disc".
The disc is rewritable because it says on the cover and also it burns on my friends rewritable dvd burner :(
Please can someone help :( i am really stuck and it would be much apreciated
    Jas

    Hello all,
thank you for your replies. Still no luck wth DLA :(. i installed DLA and i get the message 'write-once media such as CD-R or DVD-R is not supported by DLA' even though the dvd is a MAXELL Dvd+RW.
Now here is the strange part. I just borrowed a friends dvd external rewriter which burns the maxell dvd i have been using... it seems like that does not work on my laptop either now and works fine on my friends computer. perhaps it is not the dvd burner that is the problem but some setting on my pc. can someone please help :(.

  • On my Satellite P100-347 cooling fan runs all the time

    Hi,
I think I might have a problem with fan on my Satellite P100-347. It seems to be continually working at all times and is a lot louder than when I purchased the computer. Initially it used to just switch off and on when required, I think this might now be wrong.
    Please help.

    Hi Beata
I agree with Sanremo suggestions; its not known to me how old your notebook is but from time to time its necessary to clean the cooling fans. The dust and debris inside the notebook could prevent the cooling modules from properly working!
The properly fresh air circulation is also very important. Be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook. Do not use the notebook on the knees or in the bed. In such case the notebook cannot be cooled in the right way and the high temperature can damage some parts like GPU on the board.
But if you think there is an serious hardware problem you should contact the authorized service provider in your country.
Good luck and greetings to Poland ;)

  • Satellite P100-347 - nVidia drivers up to date?

Can Toshiba support please fix some up to date vista drivers for:
    Satellite P100-347...(pspa6e)
this should be up to date at Toshiba`s homepage, because the drivers on
nvidia.com don`t work on my Toshiba notebook....
    Thnx

It is well known that drivers downloaded from graphic card manufacturers support pages cannot be installed on mobile computers. Every notebook manufacturer must be sure that display driver will work well on specific notebook model and will not force graphic card to run on maximum level.
I hope you can understand why notebook manufacturers do this.
Anyway you can just hope that your message will be read by Toshiba support department. ;)

  • Satellite P100-347: Blue Leds - Can they be disabled/switched off?

I have read several topics in the forum about the P100 Harman/Kardon Speaker Blue LEDs/lights. None have expressed a final answer about how to switch off the LEDs.
I was wondering if any new update on this issue has occured. The last forum post about it was in February. Is it possible to switch off these annoying lights in the newer Satellite models? I would be willing to disconnect the leads if its an easy job.
My laptop is the Satellite P100-347 (SPA6E)
    Thanks a lot

    Hi Dan
Did you use the forum Advanced search???
    I dont think so!!!
I used it and found several threads about this theme.
I searched in the Satellite P section for blue light and find these postings:

So why to post something which was already discussed here in the forum?!

  • How to find exact motherboard model for Satellite P100-347?

    Hello,
I am hoping someone could help me. I am looking for a new motherboard for my toshiba laptop as it needs replaced.
I own a pspa6e-03302cen Satellite P100-347 laptop and have not been able to find this board online anywhere. Although I have found two suppliers of many p100 motherboards they use alternate model numbers in which I cannot find anywhere in my documentation or on the actual computer. The model numbers they use are something like A000008350 or a number starting with k. I am pretty sure the supplier i have found has the motherboard i would need but i would need a list of all the alternate part numbers for my laptop or someway of finding the exact numbers. Any help on this matter is appreciated..
    Thanks

To be honest I really do not believe someone here can offer you such info. As you know this info is for internal use and you can try to get this info from authorized service provider in your country. Sorry but I do not see better solution, except to wait here and hope someone can help.
    Good luck!

  • XFCE - Shutdown and Reboot buttons greyed-out (SOLVED)

This issue cropped up for me a couple of weeks ago.  Just sat down to try and find a solution.  Followed several suggestions from several posts to no avail.
Finally discovered that the syntax for achieving this in "/etc/sudoers" has evidently changed.
This is what I got from the XFCE site: http://forum.xfce.org/viewtopic.php?pid=21331 and is very similar to what's in the Arch Wiki, https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Al … o_Shutdown. So I had been using the following line in /etc/sudoers and it had been working:
    %users mylaptopname=NOPASSWD: /usr/lib/xfce4/xfsm-shutdown-helper
At some point in an XFCE upgrade the path to "xfsm-shutdown-helper" changed to "/usr/lib/xfce4/session/xfsm-shutdown-helper"
I changed the path to "xfsm-shutdown-helper" but that didn't solve the problem.
Finally I tried this in /etc/sudoers:
    %users  ALL=(ALL)       NOPASSWD: /sbin/shutdown -h now,/sbin/reboot
And all the usual options in the shutdown menu re-appeared.
    Hope this helps someone.
(Edited to show the link to the the XFCE forums and the Wiki.)

Replying to my own post because of what I've discovered since I first posted this.
Most importantly, the fix which I thought had fixed this problem didn't really work.  I was snookered into thinking it had.  But I've found another solution which appears to be working now, thus this post.
    Here's what I've found.
I had no login/display manager on my laptop.  I was auto-logging into my desktop with this setting in /etc/inittab:
    x:5:once:/bin/su myusername -l -c '/usr/bin/startx >/dev/null 2>&1'
The snooker alluded to above was this:  If I booted to a command line and issued "startx" to start XFCE, I would have the shutdown and reboot buttons available on the logout dialog.
But if I booted directly into the desktop, I didn't.  It's taken me a while to figure out that this is what was going on.
Even though my old setup had worked for the almost 2 years I've been using Arch and XFCE, some upgrade somewhere in  recent months prevented it from working any longer.
My final fix was to install a login manager, in my case, lxdm.  And set it to auto log me into my desktop.
I now have the expected reboot and logout menus.
Hope this helps someone.  This has been a bear to figure out.

  • Shutdown and reboot logging

Is there any file that keeps shutdowns and reboots track? or
    i should use wtmpx?

    Unia wrote:
Which one did you install? You have to run it before you can see the icon:
    $ gnome-power-manager
    or
    $ xfce4-power-manager
Add it to whatever startup script you use to have it launch at boot.
Note: a power manager won't give you a shutdown dialog AFAIK. At least gnome-power-manager doesn't.
...Y'know, I really should've actually tried adding it to my xinitrc! I stupidly assumed that because running it via gmrun or a shell didn't bring up an icon, that adding it to my xinitrc wouldn't make any difference! Thanks a lot Unia
EDIT: Okay... so I jumped the gun a bit, I tried adding gnome-power-manager and xfce4-power-manager to my xinitrc and both did nothing

  • Systemd - kdm - xfce session: shutdown and reboot disappears randomly

I use systemd and kdm as login manager; my desktop is XFCE.
Immediately after login, if I click the logout button applet in the xfce panel, I can access all the options (shutdown, reboot, etc).
But sometimes, after a while during the session, the shutdown and reboot option simply disappear - only logout works. If I log out to KDM and then again log in, they reappear.
Does anyone have a clue about this?

Just FYI the wikis were updated:
Note: slim is ConsoleKit capable since version 1.3.3. Unless you happen to run an old version, you must no longer include ck-launch-session in your .xinitrc or slim.conf login_cmd.

SLiM is also ConsoleKit capable since version 1.3.3. Unless you happen to run an old version, you must not use --with-ck-launch from your .xinitrc or slim.conf login_cmd.

  • HT5390 have a Mac mini server in the data center no physical access. Is it possible to configure a remote "console" that allows shutdown  and reboot remotely ?

A mini mac used for building sits in the data center normally we access via VNC network connection.
I want to have "console" access to shutdown and reboot system.
Reason. Updated to Mountain Lion OS X from 10.7.x and lost VNC connections, now host is down with no physical access.
Alternate is to call data center and see if someone can cycls the power ?

As mentioned by Linc there is no 'lights out' management for the Mac mini (or any current Mac). If the Mac is still running you can initiate a reboot via the GUI or commandline. If however it is completely crashed then there is a solution you could consider which is to get a managed power distribution strip. With this the power strip has its own network connection and lets you remotely turn off (and on) individual power sockets. This would then let you 'hard reboot' the Mac mini even if crashed.

Okydoky a new fascinating bug has been found!
I now relabeld all songs with no album with a "no album" tag. I thought I could handle that way the problem with the "no album bug", well I thought. Now all the songs are shown in the display but I can't play all songs through because the player hangs up. When I select just one album to play through it works fine.
