Hi,
One month ago in OTN there was a Link to the file
instantclient-odbc-linux-ia64-10.2.0.1-20051213.zip (26,662 bytes) (cksum -3623609500).
I found that link under http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/oci/instantclient/instantclient.html
Platform: Linux Itanium
-> Version 10.2.0.1
Now it has disappeared. I really need that file. Please offer that link again!

No. You dont need to apply Patch 4547817 on ASM home.You should apply Patch 4547817 on Database Home only. You dont need to apply Patch to ASM home. You are going to upgrade database from 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.2. Database can be on 10.2.0.1 or 10.2.0.2 but ASM cant be.

Hi,
We are running a tomcat process using Jrockit 1.5.0_08 on Linux IA64. The process keeps crashing after a couple of days. (I pasted the dump at the end of the post)
I found something wierd when I monitored the process to validate if the process crashes due to OutOfVM. Just before the process crashed "top" command shows the VM usage of the process is 255G.

glibc: 2.3.4-2
The language/codepage on the machine is Japanese.
The crash happened earlier similarly, I found from dump file that Code Generation thread failed, so I added -XnoOpt, but this has not solved the problem still.

Hello Krishna,
There are known issues in the Linux kernel on early versions of Red Hat 4.0 for Itanium. I suggest that you start by upgrading that to a recent Update level. RHEL 4.0 Update 2 is the absolute minimum requirement.
You may also want to consider upgrading your JRockit version. If you´have a suppotr contract, you can get one from the BEA/Oracle support web sites, or bundled as part of JRockit Mission Control here:

Instantclient-odbc - odbcad32.exe problem

Hi. I have instantclient set up on my workstation (windows xp). It works fine via both sqlplus.exe and php/apache. However, I cannot get instantclient-odbc-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115 to work. When I add a dsn choosing "Oracle in instantclient_10_2 Version 10.02.00.03", I get an error popup: odbcad32.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close... Send Error Report...
The only environment variable set is ORACLE_HOME=c:\instantclient_10_2
The contents of instantclient-basic-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115, instantclient-sqlplus-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115, and instantclient-odbc-win32-10.2.0.3-20061115 are all under c:\instantclient_10_2\bin. tnsnames.ora is under C:\instantclient_10_2\network\ADMIN\tnsnames.ora.
I'd like to get this ODBC working. Has anybody dealt with this? Any suggestions?

I deleted the ORACLE_HOME=c:\instantclient_10_2 environment variable. I added TNS_ADMIN=C:\instantclient_10_2\network\ADMIN. Now I can create a dsn.

Odbc linux driver & unixODBC

Dear all,
I'm trying to use the linux32 odbc driver provided with the instant client. I follow the instructions provided, ODBC_IC_Readme_Linux.html:
1) I unzip instantclient-basic-linux32*zip, instantclient-odbc-linux32*.zip
2) I run odbc_install.sh
3) I add to LD_LIBRARY_PATH the directory where libsqora.so.10.1 is
I don't understand what I have to do thereafter... I should set the TNS_ADMIN variable, but in the instant client installation there is no tnsnames.ora file.
Indeed if I try to connect to the DB with the unixODBC utility isql, I get the error:
[S1000][unixODBC][Oracle][ODBC][Ora]ORA-12162: TNS:net service name is incorrectly specified
[ISQL]ERROR: Could not SQLConnect
Any suggestion?

I found the solution to the puzzle.
The "TWO_TASK" environment variable had to be
defined, and to be equal to the connectidentifier
defined in the tnsnames.ora file.

I've downloaded instantclient-basic-windows.x64-11.2.0.3.0.zip (54,374,557 bytes)
to a local directory and have set the PATH variable to the directory where I unzipped the instantclient.
But I don't see any install.exe file or RunInstaller file in the directory. How do I install the client?
(windows 2008 server R2)

I followed these steps from oracle instant client download area, I've done steps 1-3...
"Installation Steps:
1. Download the appropriate Instant Client packages for your platform. All installations REQUIRE the Basic or Basic Lite package.
2. Unzip the packages into a single directory such as "instantclient".
3. Set the library loading path in your environment to the directory in Step 2 ("instantclient"). On many UNIX platforms, LD_LIBRARY_PATH is the appropriate environment variable. On Windows, PATH should be used.
4. Start your application and enjoy.

How to run a JRockit process in the background(Linux ia64)

Hello,
I am trying to start a JRockit process 1.4.2 (with a Java app) from an SSH console and make it keep running after I log out. This is on Redhat Enterprise Linux WS 4 with Itanium II processor (ia64).
The obvious thing such as
java <options> <class> &
or even
nohup java <options> <class> &
Do not work and the process terminates when I log out.
Is there a recommended method or a facility to run JRockit in the background as a service/daemon? Does JRockit has switch similar to â€“Xrs of Sunâ€™s JVM?
Starting the process on system boot and having to reboot the system to restart it are not acceptable.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Zapta did get an answer. You may have missed it if you're using nntp to access the forums, since many newsreaders don't track threads that change the subject. I recommende the using the web UI at dev2dev.bea.com.
Anyway - Use "-Xnohup" with older versions of JRockit. In recent JRockit versions, "-Xrs" works as well, since we seen problems with people hardcoding that flag into various applications launchers (Tomcat for one).

ODBC Linux Memory Problem

Hi,
I seem to have a big problem with an application I've made.
The application connects to a Oracle Database, fills the database with arround 1GB of information. Once the database is filled my application launches a series of queries to test performance.
My problem is when working with Oracle 11 in Linux (Fedora and Oracle Enterprise Linux). Apparently I can't seem to get past the database filling process. The free memory vanishes quite fast, eaten up between my application proces' and Oracle's. Now, I know the problem is not with my application because the same code works perfectly in the following databases:
Windows:
- Oracle 10R2
- Oracle 11g
- PostgreSQL 8.3
- MySQL 5.1
- MySQL 6-alpha
- SQL Server 2005 Express Edition
Linux:
- PostgreSQL 8.3
- MySQL 5.1
- MySQL 6-alpha
My application actually connects to the database and starts executing the inserts successfully. It's just that at some point the memory gets filled up, pretty quickly actually. I've watched the through vmstat. The first one to fall is the free memory, then follows the cache memory. And then it starts filling up swap. When it reaches to 2GB of used swap the behavior differs with the Linux Distribution: Fedora Core 8 crashes horribly, in Oracle Enterprise Linux at some point my application's process goes to "sleep" and I seem to still be able to do other things.
To connect to the database I use the [OTLv4 library|otl.sourceforge.net]. One might think that my problem is with OTL, but I use the same OTL in all those cases, and unless it's an issue between Oracle in Linux and OTL I don't think it's an OTL issue.
Can anyone push me in some direction ?

Well, you seem to have a memory leak in your application, assuming nothing else is running. Check out the top(1) program; you can get it to sort the displayed processes according to how much %MEM (percent of memory) they are using. First entry is the culprit.
The best way I've found to locate a memory leak is to run your program using valgrind(1). This tool runs your application in a virtual CPU built in to valgrind(1). It can detect tons of different memory usage issues, from using an un-initialized variable to leaked memory.
Of course, you may not have a memory problem. Does you program generate huge bursts of I/O or is the I/O more evenly paced? Kernel I/O backlog can consume memory quickly. While your application is running, open two more windows. In one, run the command:
$ watch -n3 -d cat /proc/meminfo
and in the other:
$ watch -n3 -d cat /proc/slabinfo
Try to figure out what memory usage is steadily increasing; that can tell us if the app is leaking or the I/O channels just can't keep up.
Hope this gives you some ideas about how to proceed.

Essbase Netezza ODBC Linux

Hi,
Has anyone configured and successfully connected to Netezza from Essbase? I have installed the Netezza ODBC driver on my Essbase Server and have modified the $ARBORPATH/bin/.odbc.ini file to include the Netezza datasources. I have tested the connection with isql -v mydsn myusername mypassword and it says connected. However when I open a SQL in EAS and try to retrieve I get the following error
ODBC Layer Error: [HY000] ==> [Server and/or port attributes are empty]
Any Suggestions please? We have other datasources defined and are able to connect to them successfully. Don't know what I am doing wrong. Thanks for your time in advance.

the first question is if this is supported.
Oracle has an MS Excel sheet as Support Matrix. Check this for the version you have. Like 11.1.2.x Non-Oracle DBs tab: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/oracle-hyperion-epm-system-certific-131801.xls
I see Netezza is supported for Essbase Studio, Interactive Reporting (former BRIO), and Production Reporting (former BRIO).
I think this also applies to your version.
A different route would be
an export as flat file and load this into Netezza.
an export into a different database which is supported and from there into Netezza.

Error while trying to connect to Database using Oracle instantclient

I have a linux box where i have downloaded"instantclient-basic-linux.x64-11.2.0.3.0.zip". I have unzipped in /opt/instantclient_11_2.
I am using this as a client in my code for connecting to the oracle 11g database which is in a different server. I have set the below env variables.
LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/instantclient_11_2
CLASSPATH=/opt/instantclient_11_2:...
PATH=/opt/instantclient_11_2:...
When i run my program i am getting the below error.

looks like you didnt complete the install of the instant client. the ORACLE_HOME and TNS_ADMIN points to the location of the tnsnames if you dont have the full tns string in your jdbc connection string

Unable to install in 64 bit, HELP!!!

I've had Firefox 3.6 installed on my 32 bit system and it works great (was installed by Hughesnet tech at my home) I tried downloading and installing on the 64 bit and no luck. To install odbc you just have to copy the files inside instantclient-odbc-windows.x64-11.2.0.3.0.zip to C:\OracleClient64 as you already did.
When you run odbc_install.exe it popup a cmd prompt for very short period of time. It´s fine.
What it does is to create the values you saw in the registry, an thats why if you run it a second time it said that already exist. With that, you have installed odbc, now you can test it following this link:

Instant Client Package - Basic: All files required to run OCI, OCCI, and JDBC-OCI applications
instantclient-basic-win-ia64-10.2.0.3.0.zip (43,150,105 bytes)
Instant Client Package - SQL*Plus: Additional libraries and executable for running SQL*Plus with Instant Client instantclient-sqlplus-win-ia64-10.2.0.3.0.zip (1,041,806 bytes)
to install the Oracle10.2.0.3 client version on my machine.
Please reply me whether i am doing right or not?
When i am runneing the exe from the SQL*Plus then it is giving me the error related to somthing 32bit...
