Instead of numbers?

Hi folks,
I got my shiny new intel imac about a year ago and just discovered today i have NO spreadsheet application on this computer. Shows how often i need to use a spreadsheet.
And now i find i can't install appleworks on this machine.
So, not really wanting to purchase a program I will almost never use for something that has always just been on my mac since like, my se :^( does anyone have any suggestions for a simple free spreadsheet program?

AppleWorks 6.2.4 & 6.2.9 run very nicely on an Intel Mac. It would appear that your AppleWorks installer is one of the early ones that only runs on OS 8/9 or Classic. Starting in mid- to late-2001, the AppleWorks installers were finally OS X-aware. If you have access to a Mac that can run OS 9 or Classic, you could install AppleWorks there & then copy the whole AppleWorks 6 folder to a CD or USB flash drive (preferably one that is Mac formatted) & then copy that whole folder to the Applications folder on your Intel Mac. If you're going to use a CD, update AppleWorks there to 6.2.4 or 6.2.9 first. You will then have a backup copy on the CD should you ever need to reinstall it again. To keep within the Apple end-user license, you need to remove the AppleWorks installation on the other Mac.

my numpad won't work. there's a beep when i hit numlock and instead of numbers, my cursor just moves slightly. i figure it's something simple, but i'm not sure how to fix it.

it's a mac mini with 10.5.6 on it. the keyboard is actually i think intended for a pc, but it worked fine for the mac. i also had a legit apple keyboard that worked fine as well. i think that i may have accidentally tweaked the preferences somehow, and it disabled my num lock.

Usualy we use Google drive documents to share some spreadsheets, but we wanted to share the same document with numbers (that's much better) but it doesn't work as easily as in google drive and doesn't even remotely works how it was supposed.

Don't know why those letters wouldn't display properly; maybe something to do with their settings at Safari > Preferences > Advanced > Default Encoding or similar setting in whatever browser they are using. But it's really easy for them to download the document via the "wrench" in the Numbers for iCloud menu. Then they can open it in the Numbers app.
For "real-time" collaboration, I think you all need to be accessing Numbers for iCloud via the browser.

I get a full keyboard instead of numbers when I log in. Help!

I went to log into my ipad, and instead of a number pad I got a full keyboard instead. No matter what I try, I can't get into my ipad now. It won't take my password. Does anyone know what to do?

tried that... it doesn't work. It takes me back to the full keyboard version of numbers instead of the pad, and doesn't take my password. I just tried to reset from itunes and its reloading the software. I'll see how that goes. Thanks, though!

Well, you don't do that. Example: You want to dial SPAM, all you do is press 7726, that's it. The system will know you mean SPAM.

Counting with letters instead of numbers

hi everybody,
today I got the requirement to represent the rownums of a recordset (1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and so on) as letters (A, B, C, D, E and so on). First of all I thought there is a database function equal to the to_char function with RN parameter (which is able to convert numbers to roman numbers easily)... but I didn´t find anything.
So, is there a database function that I haven´t found yet or have you got some custom code for me to realize this?

I don't think it's quite that simple. OP does not want a base-26 number, because there is nothing quite like a 0 in this system, and therefore nothing quite like a leading 0.
In a base-26 system, you could represent 26 ^2^ distinct numbers with strings up to 2 characters.
OP wants something where you can represent 26 ^2^ + 26 distinct numbers with strings up to 2 characters: 26 numbers with 1-character strings and a completely disjoint set of 26 ^2^ numbers with 2-character strings.
I think OP needs something more complicated, like this:

Letters instead of numbers in graph

In my ADF BC application I have a bar graph. The graph looks like this: http://img846.imageshack.us/img846/1812/graphn.png
So, my question is: is there any possibility of replacing numbers on the top of bars with letters (1 is A, 2 is B and etc.)?
Type of graph is dvt:barGraph, ADF BC, Jdeveloper 11.1.1.4

Use Buttons as counters, instead of numbers

I have a basic slideshow, with previews and next buttons replacing the arrow text (>). What i am trying to do now, is to replace the counter, with buttons. I have 5 photos, and i would like to link all 5 photos to a different button at the bottom of the screen. The slideshow can still autoplay, but if a user wants to see a photo again, they click the corisponding button to go back to it. Each button changes to a different color when active, and have a role over bar that connect to them all. All of that is doable with the place photoshop button, but i don't know how to link the buttons to the photos.
Any help out?

Unfortunately, there is no out of the box solution to replace the counters with buttons and link them with the respective slideshow image at the moment,

Keypad displays letters instead of numbers

I'm trying to input my WPA key for wireless setup. When I enter it, only letters show up and I'm unable to connect.

Try holding down the Fn key and tap NumLock, see if this works ?

Looping through letters instead of numbers

I need to create an array of strings containing everything from A100 to X999. I tried looping through letters but I don't think it can be done

Table numbering confusion and how to link to tables in a book/document?

I'm porting over (from MS Word) a document that has a bunch of tables in it.
The document currently looks something like this:
1 Major heading
1.1 Sub heading
text for that sub heading that refers to a table that follows (or may preceed) such as see Table 1-1 that follows
Table 1-1
Row 1/Column 1 content   Column 2 content   Column 3 content
Row 2/Column 1 content   etc....            etc.
Row 3                    etc.               etc.
1.2 Next sub heading
Text to follow that sub head that references Table 1-2 below...
Table 1-2
Row 1/Column 1 content   Column 2 content   Column 3 content
Row 2/Column 1 content   etc....            etc.
Row 3                    etc.               etc.
2 Major heading
2.1 Next sub heading
Text to follow that sub head that references Table 2-1 below...

Hopefully that makes sense.
Currently it seems that the tables are numbered based on the chapter number with the chapter apparently being set at 2.
I need the tables to instead use numbering based on the heading (Titles) numbers, but can't seem to figure out how to get the numbers set for the tables as I would want them to be.
What do I need to do to make the table numbers reset based on the paragraph numbers (subchapters if you would refer to them that way...)

What is the paragraph format of "Table 2-1" lines?
Table numbering is commonly controlled by two things:
1. Format > Paragraph > Paragraph Designer
[table title para name]
[ Numbering]
and
2. Format > Document > Numbering
The default in Frame is that tables have titles of para fmt "TableTitle", but tables can switch that off, and also be anchored to paragraphs (often Headings) of any arbitrary format name and numbering scheme.

Don't WANT to use Excel, but Numbers doesn't cut it...

I have been an avid Mac user for 10 years, but I am still having issues when dealing with Numbers and find that what I need to accomplish I can only do with Excel. While it is a great program in and of itself, opening Excel files with Numbers on my iPad/ iPhone is not ideal, and I would love to take advantage of Versions and Auto Save that are now available with Lion as well as the mobile applications. This is not possible with Excel.
Main issue at this point is as follows:
I have a template file that I use for building files that I use multiple times [20-30 times] a day, I also have a file with commonly referred to information. In Excel I can keep my reference file up to date, then use the VLOOKUP formula in the spreadsheet to essentiall auto-fill in the common information. I am trying to accomplish the same thing in Numbers without much luck.
For Example, if I have already created my file, I should be able to update my reference file and have the information readily available to ALL 1000+ files I have already created and be able to access the new information [ie- addresses or contact information] from any of them. Instead, what Numbers appears to be asking me to do is add my ENTIRE reference table to EACH file and update them individually. I know that it doesn't take up that much space on the harddrive, but still, this seems a little ridiculous, and it seems like a step backwards from the system I have already created.
I have searched all of the forums but can't seem to find the answers I need. Is there really no way to reference a sheet/table from a completely separate file in Numbers? I'd love to support Apple, and it's applications, but if they can't do what I need them to do- I just wasted $20.00.

I'm unable to understand why users like you buy a product before testing it to chek if it fit their needs.
There is an iWork free trial version available since jabuary 2009. It's a complete version. It's just restricted to a 30 days period.
Is it so complicated to download it and install it before throwing some bucks ?
The wanted feature isn't available so, yes, you wasted 20$.

How do i print multiple columns on 1 page in numbers

I think I am over thinking this but I have confused myself. I am using Numbers to create a spreadsheet of family names with their corresponding number. I would like to print multiple columns of names on one page to save paper but I can't figure how to do it. Will someone please help me???

Here is one way. Don't mess with your database. Create a new table for printing.
Database with a Header Row (named Table 1 as an example) might look like this:

I made this example small for the pics, but obviously you could have more rows and columns per page.
Having created your table for printing, select it, Cut, add a new sheet and Paste. Print just that sheet.
Have a look at 'More Like This' at the bottom of this page. Trying to format page to print table in two columns Jerry suggests using Pages instead of Numbers.

Trying to create logical page numbers

I'm working in Acrobat XI 12.0.02 (Architecture: i386, Build: 11.0.01.36, AGM: 4.28.131, CoolType: 5.11.131, JP2K: 2.0.0.26752.) I'm on a top-of-the-line iMac under OS X 10.7.5.
I'm trying to set up logical page numbers in an existing PDF file from archive.org. This is one of their rather fancy PDF's that has invisible searchable text over the page image. Really nice to work with, but in this case, the original book has very strange page numbering. The original editor decided that illustrations, figures and blank pages would not be numbered. Instead, the numbering skips to the next text page. That makes it a massive pain in the neck to try to get to any particular page in the book. I will be using this book extensively for months to come, so it's well worth my time to fix this by setting up logical page numbers. The original file has no security set of any kind.
In Acrobat XI, Preferences, Page Display, I've checkmarked "Use logical page numbers."
In the Page Thumbnails tab, I've selected a range of pages (7-16 in the original book.) I right-click on the selected page range. I select Number Pages. The "Pages" part of the dialog box comes up with "Selected" marked. The "Numbering" part of the dialog box comes up with "Begin new section." "Style" is set to None. "Prefix" is blank. I set "Start" to 7. I hit OK. I see no error messages. I see nothing in the page number box in the navigation bar. I see no page numbers in the Page Thumbnail tab. Entering page 10, for example, in the page number box takes me to the Acrobat page 10, not to the logical page 10. Saving and re-opening the file in Acrobat XI doesn't work, nor does opening the file in Acrobat Reader 10.1.6 work.
What's wrong? What am I missing?

My main problem is understanding the integration of the javascript with the pl/sql as the values in both the lovs need to be dynamic (the values in both tables could potentially change quite often). I need to take the value selected in the first lov (using javascript I think) and pass it somehow to the pl/sql select statement to get the values to be used as the options in the second.
Any guidance on combining the use of javascript and pl/sql would be most welcome.

Opening an xls file in Numbers

Numbers does not properly open an XLSX file but MS Excel for Mac does. I can, however, open the file with Preview and it displays properly. The problem appears to just in formatting the colums as the data appears as dates instead of numbers.

The first colum "Date" is okay but all other data should be just numbers
