Instead of text cursor to edit, I keep getting a "delete" box.

Ever since the last update, and whenever I try to edit a text, I touch the screen at an approximate point in the text from where I want to start positioning the cursor from, a "delete" box appears instead of the blue cursor triangle. This is not what I want, I just want to position the cursor at the point where I may want to add a letter, or edit the existing text, not delete the entire word. Does anyone know how to correct this and change this to the old way?

It seems like it's going to install and then it comes up with a dialog box that says "Apple Mobile Device" failed to start and to verify I have sufficient priveleges.
