Instron 5500 series GPIB control

Hi all,
I am trying to control a series 5500 Instron machine via a GPIB card.
Any help with instruction set info for Instron 5500 controller would
be much appreciated.
Regards,
Stefan

We are controlling several 4200 and 4400 series loadframes using LV. Now the GPIB command set did not change from the 4200 to the 4400. I'm going to take a bold leap and say the command set for the 5500 is probably the same. You have a few options: first if you have access to one of these manuals, they have the command set in them; if not doesn't the 5500 manual have them? Second, Instron provides (for a price)LV drivers and finally I might be able to get you the command set.
As a simple test to see if the prior command set will work, open MAX. Then open Devices & Interfaces, then GPIB, then Instrument. At this point MAX should have recognized the 5500 controller by displaying a primary address. At the top of the screen is a button Communicate with Inst
rument. In the window type R3 then push Write. Next push Read and you should get a value back. This is the current extension. R2 is current load and R4 is current strain 1.
Good luck.

  • Has anyone interfaced an Instron 5500 with Labview?

    I'm trying to get my company to buy labview.  If I can get it to control an Instron 5500 they will be sold.  Has anyone attempted to do this?  Instron tells me that they do not have Labview drivers.

    I did a couple of Instrons with Labview a few years back, but they were older models (2725 and 2734 if my memory serves me right for numbers). I wrote the daq and machine control software in Labview from scratch. Neither of these machines was new enough to have a GPIB port, they were the type with the old mechanical recorder outputs. I had to re-work some of the machine mechanics and electrics to take a custom interface adapter from a NI Lab 1200 Daq card. I also had to build a custom extensometer for one unit. I don't know if I could be of any help to you, but I would be willing to work with you via e-mail and offer what assistance I can. I have 38 years in custom machine controls and general process instrumentation, so I have quite an extensive background to call upon. If you are interested drop me an e-mail at:

  • 5500 Series WLC internal DHCP Server - Exclusion?

    Hi there,
    We're using the internal DHCP server on our 5500 Series WLC which works fine.
    However on one WLAN we ran out of addresses so changed the subnet from a /25 to a /24.
    The problem is that the router/gateway is still in the middle (124/125/126) and not easily changed.
    I've moved the WLC interface to the top of the subnet (251) but the router is more difficult as its externally managed/controlled.
    So is there a way we can create a DHCP pool of .1 through 250 on a /24 mask but exclude 124/125/126?
    Thanks
    Mike
    PS - Router subnet masks were changed so can see whole subnet.

    Mike,
        The WLC isn't a fully functional DHCP server, it only allows you to define what is in scope, not what is out of scope.  Now if you have a cisco router/switch, you could use that for the DHCP server and specifically exclude the necessary addresses.

  • Does the WLC 5500 Series support LLDP?

    We have 2 WLC 5508s running v7.0.98.0 and 70+ 1230, 1240, & 1250 series LWAPs.  We are currently enabling LLDP because we will be installing some non-Cisco switches in the near future.  Does the WLC5508 and the access points it controlls support LLDP?

    Hi David:
    The Data Sheet for the 5500 series wireless LAN controllers is at
    http://tools.cisco.com/squish/b7D77
    That data sheet does not currently list LLDP (as LLDP) or IEEE 802.11AB as supported protocols in the product as it sits today.
    I would encourage you to contact your Cisco SE, Cisco account team or Cisco authorized wireless reseller, and let them know you think that this support would be valuable to the wireless LAN controllers.  The "sales side of the house" has procedures in place to gather and accumulate input from the customers they serve, and forward it to the respective business units within Cisco for possible inclusion in future releases of Cisco's products.

  • Configuring 5500 SERIES WILAN CONTROLLER

    Dear All,
    Could someone help me with the basic configuration of Wi-LAN controller.
    specifically the 5500 series. setup is to include setting up the Access Points to Communicate with the controller.
    Thanks.
    Jude.

    Hi,
    The link below should help you:
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/controller/7.2/configuration/guide/cg_preface.html
    Ensure that you create a DNS entry for the controller on your domain controller. The DNS name is CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER.localdomain. On your dhcp server, enable DNS option 15 and put in the your domain name. This will enable the controller to respond to the AP dns query.
    The link below sheds more light on the AP join process. Although it is for 4400 controller, it is the same process.

    I would like to find drivers for GPIB control of HP 6034A power supply (LabVIEW 6.1). There are drivers HP6xxxA for power supplies 6033A, 6035A, 6038A, ... Could anyone give me information how to modify these drivers for 6034A or any other directive. Jokut

    You might post your answer in the Instruments Connectivity >> GPIB section of the NI Exchange forum.

    PS: Most of the time you might just change the initialisation string of the instrument setup function/command if the instrument is similar to the dirver you already have. But this is all relative to the instrument - Unfortunatly I don't know the driver nor your instrument.

  • In MAX, how do I release GPIB control of the instrument without restarting my scope?

    n MAX, how do I release GPIB control of the instrument without restarting my scope(HP54120B)?

    Hi,
    I don't think I understand what you are asking.
    If you are refering to the instrument's front panel, which locks when the instrument goes to remote mode, then it depends on the instrument how it can go back to local.
    Some instruments will go to local by pressing any key, others a particular key. Refer to the instrument's documentation.
    There is also a NI-488.2 function that makes the instrument go to local: ibloc.
    Hope this helps.

  • GPIB-Controlled XHR Power Supply and HP34401A DMM Conflict

    Dear Experts,
    I downloaded a driver for XHR Power Supply from NI's website and used
    it to controlled the power supply successfully via GPIB cable in
    LabVIEW. However, when I used HP34401A digital meter to measure the
    voltage from the power supply in the same way via GPIB cable, the XHR
    power supply was shut down automatically although the meter read the
    measurement correctly before shutting down. Since I am a new user of
    LabVIEW, I do not know if it is a conflict of GPIB-Controlled
    instuments.
    I would be most grateful if you could give me some advice and tell me how to solve this problem at your earliest convenience.
    Thanks a lot for your attention and help,
    James

    You can set LLO with the VISA GPIB Control REN function. This is on the Instrument I/O>VISA>VISA Advanced>Interface specific palette.
    You do not use the same VISA session for two different instruments. Each must be different and unique. If they were the same, then the be would be using the same address and your program would not work.
    To make a sinlg VI that will control both instruments, just take the functions you need from each and put them into a single VI. The author of the XAN power supply drivers did a kind of lame thing. The Getting Started VIs do not have their controls and indicators wired to the VIs connector pane so you would have to change this before using the Getting Started in another VI. I've attached a simple example that shows some of the other functions along with some 34401 functions in a single VI.
    Before you get going, I would recomend that you take a LabVIEW programming class. Information can bge found at http://www.ni.com/devzone/lvzone/fundamentals.htm.
    p.s. You should know that your email address is not available to forum users. If you wish an example program, you can request it be posted here but you need to provide the version of LabVIEW that you're using and you need to provide the exact name of the XAN driver you're using. I found three and don't know shich is which.

  • Change color in chart series (Chart Controls)?

    Does anyone know if it's possible to change the color within a series in Microsoft Chart Controls?  My data is X = test time and Y = response time using a column graph.  Currently when the test to collect response time fails it does not
    record a numerical value and when graphed it appears as though the response time was minimal.  I want to make it stand out when a failure occurs, for example to draw a large column and change the color to red (other values are in blue).
    I don't have much experience using Chart Controls yet.  I know you can use an alternate color with a different series of data but it doesn't appear you can change it from within.
    This is my chart series (when a test fails, the response matches "" and not $NULL):
    [void]$chart1.Series.Add("ResponseTime")
    $chart1.Series["ResponseTime"].ChartType = "Line"
    $chart1.Series["ResponseTime"].BorderWidth  = 1
    $chart1.Series["ResponseTime"].IsVisibleInLegend = $true
    $chart1.Series["ResponseTime"].chartarea = "ChartArea1"
    $chart1.Series["ResponseTime"].color = "#0404B4"
    $DATA | ForEach-Object {
    If ($_.RESPONSE_MS -eq "") {
    $chart1.Series["ResponseTime"].Points.addxy("FAIL",9999)
    Else {
    $chart1.Series["ResponseTime"].Points.addxy( $_.TIME.Remove(5) , ($_.RESPONSE_MS)) }
    I tried changing the color within the if/else but the first .color value it picks up will be used throughout.

    Hi Tickermcse76,
    To create a new line chart, please refer to this script:
    function New-Chart

    # create chart object
    $global:Chart = New-object System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.Charting.Chart

    $global:Chart.Height = $height

    $global:Chart.Top = $top
    # create a chartarea to draw on and add to chart
    $chartArea = New-Object System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.Charting.ChartArea
    $global:chart.ChartAreas.Add($chartArea)
    [void]$global:Chart.Titles.Add($chartTitle)
    # change chart area colour
    $global:Chart.BackColor = [System.Drawing.Color]::Transparent
    } #New-Chart
    New-Chart -width $width -height $height -left $left -top $top -chartTile $chartTitle
    [void]$global:Chart.Series.Add("Data")
    # $global:Chart.Series["Data"].Points.AddXY($(get-date), $($ht.Values))
    $global:Chart.Series["Data"].Points.DataBindXY($ht.Keys,$ht.Values)
    #$global:Chart.Series["Data"].XValueType = [System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.Charting.ChartValueType]::Time
    #$global:Chart.chartAreas[0].AxisX.LabelStyle.Format = "hh:mm:ss"
    #$global:Chart.chartAreas[0].AxisX.LabelStyle.Interval = 1
    #$global:Chart.chartAreas[0].AxisX.LabelStyle.IntervalType = [System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.Charting.DateTimeIntervalType]::Seconds
    $global:Chart.Series["Data"].ChartType = [System.Windows.Forms.DataVisualization.Charting.SeriesChartType]::Line
    #$global:chart.Series["Data"].IsValueShownAsLabel = $false

  • GPIB Control of Spectrum analyser

    Hi There
    I have a HP 8591 EM spectrum analyser and EMC receiver I wish to control this via GPIB.
    I would basically like to control everything from my PC if possible which covers everything on the front panel and to pull of all the data for analysis maybe in the fom of a csv file?????.
    I have never used LABVIEW before so may I ask that no assumptions are made about how much I should know and any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I intend to use this set up for the analysis of PCBs in a home made faraday cage many thanks for your assistance

  • GPIB control....

    As always I am not sure if I am asking this correctly, but let try.
    I have a number of GPIB instruments to control.
    We have the following to be controlled:
    Stanford Research DS360 Ultra-low Distortion Function Generator Signal Generator
    TTi TSX3510P, power supply
    Keithley 2000 6½-Digit Multimeter
    I have downloaded IVI drivers for the Keithley 2000 and I appear to have two .fp files
    C:\VXIpnp\WinNT\ke2000
    C:\Program Files\IVI Foundation\IVI\Drivers\ke2000
    From CVI when loading an instrument which .fp file should I go for?
    If, for example, I set the Keithley to DCV, 1V range, go do a test and come back and try to repeat the setting will it be done or will it know it is already set?
    I ask as there would be a need to account for setup time, within the instrument, when the request is sent.
    There are no drivers for the Stanford Research DS360, any suggestions the best course of action, let make it simple as I am a simple man with little time to implement it.
    Thanks for you patience and time
    Simon

    Hello Simon!
    For the Keithley 2000 IVI driver, you will want to use the *.fp file in the C:\Program Files\IVI Foundation\IVI\Drivers... folder.
    In regards to the Stanford Research DS360 driver, unfortunately it's not supported.
    However, it is possible to convert LabVIEW project-style instrument drivers into a C programming language driver with the LabVIEW Instrument Driver Export Wizard.  The problem is that the Standford Research srds360 driver is a LabVIEW plug and play driver, not a LabVIEW project style driver.  So, if you had a copy of an older version of LabVIEW (Version 8.0 or 8.2), you could manually transfer the files from the plug and play driver into a LabVIEW project and then export the project style driver into code that LabWindow/CVI would recognize.  We tried to do this on our end, but could not get this driver  to successfully export.  This is likely because the driver is not supported.
    It would be easier to create a LabWindows/CVI driver and then submit it so that we may add it to our Instrument Driver Network.  You will want to use the LabWindows/CVI templates and the manual for the DS360 to build the driver.  To guide you, the rest of our tools are available here; you will want to find the LabWindows/CVI Plug and Play section, and I would not worry about certification since you are looking to get up and running quickly.
