Instructions for Ad-Hoc Tasks

Instructions for Ad-Hoc Tasks
In reading the ServiceManager training material a screenshot displays "Task Instructions" under the "Ad-Hoc Tasks" button on the page navigator when an Ad-Hoc task is created.  Currently in our system, this "Task Instructions" button does not display.  The only way a fulfiller sees his or her instructions is through the use of the email generated when the Ad-Hoc task is assigned.  Is there something we need to enable to make this button appear?
Thanks!
Charlie

I believe what you are seeing is the link to the standard Task Instructions for the service- not task instructions for the ad-hoc task. If you go to the Plan tab of a service and click on a task you will see that the task has a tab called "Task Instructions". If there is something filled in on that tab then you will get a Task Instructions link on the right hand side bar of the task in service manager. As far as I know there is no way to include the specific task instructions that were included on the ad

  • Question about Entitlements.plist for ad hoc distribution

I still haven't gotten ad hoc distribution to work, and I don't know the difference or importance of doing an ad hoc distribution with an ad hoc distribution profile vs just providing a development distribution to the device with a development provisioning profile, but....
In the instructions for the ad hoc distribution build there is one more set of tasks you have to do that you don't seem to have to do for any of the other kinds of builds:
    * Open the project, and select File -> New File -> iPhone OS -> Code Signing -> Entitlements.
    * Name the file “Entitlements.plist". and click ‘Finish’. This creates a copy of the default entitlements file within the project
    * Select the new Entitlments.plist file and uncheck the “get-task-allow” property. Save the Entitlements.plist file.
    * Select the Target, and open the Build settings inspector. In the ‘Code Signing Entitlements’ build setting, type in the filename of the new Entitlements.plist file including the extension.
What is all that about? And can that be left in the distribution for app store as well? Is there any reason to even do an ad hoc distribution as opposed to just making a development distribution for specified devices?
    Thanks!
    doug

If you are only testing the application on your own iPhone (or an iPhone that will always be connected to your development Mac w/ xcode on it), you only need to create a development profile.
The Ad Hoc profile is useful for:
    .. Beta testers
.. Giving free copies of your app to friends (so they don't have to buy through the store)
Basically, it's for distributing release versions of your application to specific iPhones (your friends or beta testers have to give you their iPhone identifier strings). You cannot do this effectively with a development profile.
And yes, you can leave the entitlement.plist file in your project when you release to the apple store.

Does anyone know how to have an email automatically triggered onc ethe "Done" button has been clicked on an Ad Hoc task?

There is already a feature request for this. Details:

The above feature request is for triggering an email when task is done. There are a couple of other enhancements in the works for other emails / actions related to ad hoc tasks. However #23331 seems appropriate to what Shane is asking for.

  • Practical universe schema design for ad hoc reporting in web intelligence

    Hello Folks,
I am in the initial design phase of creating a universe out of normalized tables in oracle database. This current set of table are outside our data warehouse methodology and work flows. The new Universe will be used for ad hoc query by limited users. There are about 25-30 tables with employee data/attributes (mostly HR data). Since these tables are all dimensions with employee information on various subjects like education, address, training,*employee records* etc, what should be my join strategy with the existing table schema? where is concept of fact table?. Would you suggest any denormalizing/derived or materialized view to get the right end results. Or do you see any ETL process required before starting this task? My main concern is configuring joins between the tables and performance issue due to many joins in the current physical model. Additionally, i am concerned with employee records component in the structure, as each record of an employee may have multiple event history. How would you handle such a situation (maybe create a seperate context with the main factless fact Employee table??)
I will appreciate your insight and approach to tackle the initial planning phase of this project.
    Thanks

...due to the fact that with ad-hoc reports, the links, joins, cardinalities etc may differ from report to report depending on what each individual report would require.
Cardinalities are part of the data model, they should not change based on report requirements.
As far as the rest, yes, designing a flexible universe can be challenging. You have the option to set up different join paths (called contexts) for different functional areas, but in some cases it just makes sense to build more than one universe on top of the same data structures.
For an example, consider a very simple case where there is a relationship between an employee and the company motor pool (collection of company cars). The HR person wants to see all people even if they don't have cars assigned to them, so they would require an outer join from Employee to Car. The motor pool manager wants to see all cars, even those that are not currently assigned to a person, so they would require an outer join from Car to Employee. These two requirements are contradictory, and so cannot be designed into a single universe. That's not a problem, it's simply something that needs to be recognized and responded to. An HR person is not likely to care about when the next oil change is due, and the motor pool manager probably does not care about the hire date for a particular person.
Web Intelligence makes an excellent ad hoc query engine, but it does require some investment in a proper universe structure.

  • *sigh*  can't build for ad-hoc :-(

    Hello, all ...
I'm trying to build for ad-hoc, and i'm meeting with failure again and again. When I try to select the distribution profile that I created for ad-hoc, it does not show up in the menu -- a long hex number shows up instead. I've followed the distribution build instructions to the letter as far as I can tell, but this just refuses to work.
    I've quit XCode ...
    I've cleared out ~/Library/MobileDevices/Provision Profiles ...
I've verified that the ad-hoc distribution profile has the correct app ID ...
    I've re-downloaded the profiles ...
I've dragged them to the XCode icon in the dock and verified that they show up in the organizer window for the connected device ...
I've checked said profiles in aforementioned organizer window ...
I've duplicated the release target as "Distribution" in the project info window ...
I've set the build target to distribution ...
I've changed "iPhone Developer: John Zorko" to "iPhone Distribution: John Zorko" in the target info window (I even verified in Keychain Access that that is what the certificate says) ...
I try to select the ad-hoc distribution profile (step 6 in the ad-hoc distribution build instructions) ...
... and what shows up instead of my profile is that long hex number. Time and again. Can anyone give me an indication as to why that hex number shows up, instead of my ad-hoc profile i.e. what step I did wrong, and how I can fix it?
    Regards,
    John

Alas, I finally did it. I didn't need to drag to iTunes -- XCode worked, but the ad-hoc profile wasn't set up correctly in the program portal. Once I fixed that, cleared everything out and started over, it worked. Wow, though -- so many steps; quite unwieldy imho.

  • Step by Step Instructions for Installing Self Signed Certificate using Certificate Modification Tool

I am looking for some step by step instructions for installing the self signed certificate from my Microsoft SBS 2003 server on a Treo 755p and 750p.  In particular I need some help with the form of the actual certificate and how to use the Certificate Modification tool.
Some questions I have are as follows:
    1. When I install the certificate on a Windows Mobile device I used an exported version of the certificate.  This export is done using the DER x.509 format.  Is that the same form I’ll need for the Palm?  Do I need some other form? Can/should I just use sbscert.cer file that is generated when SBS is configured?
    2. Does the self signed cert need to be installed on the computer being used to update the Palm or do we just need to be able to access the appropriate .CER file?
    3. There are three things included in the PalmCertificatesTool.zip file:
                                    Trusted CAs (folder)
                                    Cert2pdb.exe
                                    PalmCertificates.exe
How do I use these tools?
    4. It looks like the PalmCertificates.exe file opens an interface that will allow me to browse to the desired .CER file.  Then I suppose I use the < Generate PDB > to create something that needs to then be uploaded to the Palm device?  Not having any real experience with a Palm device how do I upload and install this file?
    5. Once uploaded do I do something on the device to install it?
If there is some white paper that provides step by step instructions on doing this that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Walt Bell

    Thanks for that.
I have one question after reading the article 43375:
The article has you "Turn of AutoSync" and then "Reset the device".  It then indicates the device should be left idle.
The next step relates to running the PalmCertificates.exe, navigate to the certificate file and add it and then run the < Generate PDB > button.  Should the device be connected to the computer during this process? If so, at what point after the reset do you connect it to the computer?
    Thanks!

  • I have followed instructions for importing favorites from Internet Explorer, but they do not show up in Bookmarks menu as shown in the support instructions.

I just downloaded Firefox 3.6 and followed the instructions for importing Favorites from Internet Explorer. Firefox said the import was successful, but the Favorites do not appear at the bottom of the Bookmarks menu (below "Mozilla Firefox") as shown in the Support instructions. Where can I access my Favorites?

You can usually find the imported IE Favorites in a folder ("From Internet Explorer") at the bottom of the Bookmarks Menu folder (Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks).<br />
If you can't find them in the "From Internet Explorer" folder then try this:
    * Export the favorites in IE to an HTML file (bookmarks.html): File > Import and Export
    * Import the HTML file in Firefox: Bookmarks > Organize Bookmarks > Import & Backup > Import HTML: From File
See also http://kb.mozillazine.org/Import_bookmarks ("Import from another browser" and "Import from file")

You don't need to start a new thread to continue a conversation, you can just tack onto the original one. The settings I referred you to are for the Blackberry, since that's the device which is not receiving mail: anything which is working can be left alone.

  • How do I sync my new ipad mini with my old ipad 2, without losing any apps or data in notes?  I need step by step instructions for first-time sync with ipad mini.  Thanks.

How do I sync my new ipad mini with my old ipad 2, without losing any apps or data in notes?  I need step by step instructions for first-time sync with ipad mini.  Thanks.

If you synced it many times, you have to have a backup. It's just a question of how old that backup is now. When did you last sync?
First of all launch iTunes on your computer and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices. Do you see any backups for you iPad in that window? If so, how new is the newest backup? That will be the backup that you will want to use. But remember that if you use that backup and it is one month old, you can only restore from that date back in time. Anything that you did on the iPad in the past month will not be in that backup.
Turn on the new iPad Minin and start activating OTA via WiFi. You will get to a certain point in the process where you will be given the choice to Set up as new, Restore from iCloud - or Restore from iTunes. You will want to select Restore from iTunes.
That is the short and sweet version. There are step by step instructions in this article. This applies to the mini as well as the iPad 4 or the iPad 3 for that matter.

  • HP Instructions for Printing and Scanning Under Snow Leopard

HP has posted instructions for Snow Leopard users for printing, faxing, and scanning on HP printers.
While the scan button (and installed HP printer management software) may no longer work on the printer, you can still scan if you go through the Preview or Image Capture programs on your Mac to access the scanner.
I tried it on my HP Officejet Pro 8500 wireless printer that was unable to scan after upgrading to Snow Leopard, and it worked.
HP has posted the printer instructions for Snow Leopard at: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01846935&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en &product=1153481
Hope this helps some of you. It worked for me.

You can download VueScan as a trial without paying for it unless you want to.
As for enabling scanning with Image Capture you need the proper driver. As a start I would ask HP's tech support if they can help you get it working. Apple does not write any printer or scanner drivers. They are provided by HP or other printer manufacturers. Apple packages them for distribution with OS X. It's quite possible that the current scanner driver for your model isn't compatible with SL.
If you understand modern technology then you have to appreciate the fact that most things become obsolete within months. This is certainly true of computers and their peripherals. Software developers cannot keep up the pace with the hardware. A two year old printer has been obsolete for more than a year already. Unless HP still sells and manufactures that model, they tend to lose interest with them. SL only arrived in October 2009 which is after your model was released. So HP needed to provide compatible drivers. If they have then perhaps the problem with yours is related to something else, but I don't know what that would be beyond completely uninstalling all the HP software then letting the OS figure out what to install. SL automatically discovered both my printer and scanner, then installed the drivers for each.

  • Error in the instructions for performing a silent install

There's an error in the instructions for performing a silent install of Photoshop Elements:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/silent-install-instructions-photoshop-element s-1.html
In step 9, the instructions say to use the following command line:
    start /wait "path to Setup.exe" /UL%LangCode% /V“SERIALNUMBER=%AOO volume license serial number%"
The correct command line, however, is this:
    start /wait "path to Setup.exe" /UL%LangCode% /V"SERIALNUMBER=%AOO volume license serial number%"
See the difference? Look closely at the character after the /V. In the instructions on the website, they put in a "curly quote" character. This obviously needs to be a straight quote.
Interestingly enough, the erroneous command line from the web site will actually work just fine as posted if all you are passing in the /V is the serial number. If, however, you wanted to add a "NODESKTOPICON=1" to disable the creation of a desktop shortcut, for example:
    start /wait "path to Setup.exe" /UL%LangCode% /V“SERIALNUMBER=%AOO volume license serial number% NODESKTOPICON=1"
then it fails to run silently.
I post this in the hopes that Adobe will fix the typo in their instructions and save other admins the hours of grief I've been put through today trying to get this working.

Check the response file where you define the SGA memory size for the new database.
You can also choose not to create the database at the installation and do it afterwards, making a specific response file for it. (I'd recommend specially this option. like that you can separate possible installation errors with the ones on the DB creation process).
    Good luck.

  • HT1212 I have followed the instructions for "if you have never synced your decice with itunes" and my computer is telling me the device has been restored, however I still don't know how to unlock my phone??

Having followed the instructions for "if you have never synced your device to itunes" and my computer displayed the message that the device has been restored, my phone is still saying its disabled and I should connect to itunes. What do I do now??

Put the iPhone into Recovery Mode and then try the Restore again:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808
If that still doesn't work, as a last resort try DFU mode:
    http://www.iclarified.com/entry/index.php?enid=1034
If that still fails, you'll probably need to go to an Apple Store or call Apple Support for further assistance.
