Instructions in "Firefox Sync is not working" don't show me "update"

I am getting sync errors when I open Firefox on my Mac OS 10.5.8.
The article, "Firefox Sync not working," gives instructions saying to open preferences; go to "sync" and click "update." Update doesn't show up as an option.
I am not sure if there are other problems involving sync.
Thanks for any advice.

Firefox Sync would have to be the '''most user unfriendly service '''I have ever had the misfortune to use.
You go round and round in circles from one device to another. Finally you have no idea what is going on and simply give up.
You guys should take a look at Lastpass. To get my information from one computer to another takes about 1minute tops.
I'm over Firefox and thinking seriously about going completely over to Chrome.

On the help screen for my question, first of all - and this is in the MAC OS section! - there are photos of the Windows screens for setup of Firefox sync. This bothers me more than just on an aesthetic level, but how on earth is that supposed to help me fill out MY preferences on a MAC?!?! There is a question asked, "Show me how, I have lost my other device" with a link that brings you to an article entitled "Where can I find my Firefox sync key? | How to | Firefox Help" which is where I see Windows screens which are completely different from the ones I see under Mac OS Firefox 4. With different options, layout, etc. So of course this is of absolutely no help to me whatsoever! Come on guys, when I'm in the Mac OS Section I EXPECT to find windows which not only LOOK the same as the ones I see on my computer, but which have at least the same OPTIONS available to me so I can understand WTF you're talking about!! I still cannot find out what to do when I don't have access to the original device I set up the Firefox Sync with. Can you figure out how to help me?

I have the same problem, fixed it by disabling hardware acceleration in options - advanced - general.
Still having other issues with things not working and displaying correctly though.

  • On two computers with ubuntu 12.04 & firefox 15, firefox sync does not work

I have three computers that all use ubuntu 12.05 and firefox 15.0
I cant nake firefox sync work, although in eralier days it was flawless. I cant figure out whether the syncing up or syncing down is the problem. Is there any way of knowing what is in the contents of the sync cloud?
I have tried all the remedies posted on the firefox sync site

It is NOT officially recommended to use outdated versions of Firefox, as they will be insecure. (Obviously many users will be able to make their own decisions on the risks and consequences, but others looking for quick fixes may read this thread later)
    * [[Install an older version of Firefox]] Note that includes links to the ftp downloads of Mozilla builds of previous versions of Firefox.
On Windows : - Just google it :P
    * [[Install Firefox on Windows]]
    * also on Windows as an additional version some may consider Firerfox Portable, as an easy install http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable (No need to manually set up multiple profiles)
Also note there is the option of using Mozilla builds on Linux
    * [[Install Firefox on Linux]] (IIRC last time I tried it on 64 bit Linux Mozilla tried to install 32bit Firefox so I used a ftp download)
I do not have multiple machines available to test sync, but I would have expected to see reports if Firefox 15 was failing on all Linux installs. Are posts appearing on forums for particular Disto's

  • Firefox sync did not work as expected

I set up both computers [actually in the same room on different desks]. Same Password, same secret phrase. It said it was working ON both computers. but nothing happened.

  • Firefox Sync Bookmarks not working!

On one of my computers, I cannot sync the bookmark data on firefox (4b10), it works fine with bookmarks unchecked and everything works on another computer with 4b10, but it only gets an Unknown Error on the first computer.

    Hi Hiro!
Have you tried to go through the process in [[Safe Mode]]? It's possible that one of your add-ons is interfering in how the buttons are working.
Let me know if that helps.

  • Firefox sync is not working on solaris

I am running a current, internal build of OpenSolaris and firefox for
Solaris version 3.6.10. I created a new profile that only has the Sync
add-on installed and started firefox with that profile. Here's what I
    did:
    1. Earlier I had uploaded a bunch of bookmarks using Sync on my MacBook Pro.
    2. On Solaris I access the Sync prefs and click on Reset Sync.
    3. I choose replace all local data with my remote Sync account data.
    4. I see a "Error While Syncing" message in the lower status bar. When I click on it it states it is an unknown error.
Note that I am using Sync version 1.5.

  • Wifi sync will not work since 5.0.1 update

since i did the IOS 5.0.1 update, itunes now will not wifi sync on my mac.
I've restored, ive reinstalled the IPSW manually...ive ticked and unticked sync in the options, ive deleted the backup file and set up as a new phone...
    ive ran out of ideas...
PS, this seem to only be an issue with macOSx as wifi sync works on a PC with this restore...
Theres no new software installed and seems to be a mac vs iphone issue as my other half also has the same issue now with the mac.
Any ideas or is it a trip to the apple geeks?
    thanks in advance
    zesty2k

Same problem here with iPhone 4 and iPad 2.
Apple have just released iTunes 10.5.1 which I hoped was a fix but no.
Wired sync still works fine on both devices.
Ran iTunes diagnostics and the sync test caused iTunes to crash on several with both devices so there obviously seems to be a problem with the software.

  • Sync does not work at all since last update.  This is ********.

Pretty self-explanatory.  I had to perform a full restore after the last software update failed to install properly, as usual.  Now when I try to sync it gets stuck on the last step and nothing gets copied.  I better not have to do another restore just for this.  Clearly numerous people are having this same problem.  Get it together.
    P.S.  Censorship is b ull$h!t.

Do you really have OS X 10.4.1 as listed in your profile? The iPad requires 10.5.8 or later to sync. You can install either a retail version of 10.5 or 10.6 directly over 10.4 to upgrade.

  • Firefox 5.0.1 Sync is not working even after info replaced and device added again.

No errors were displayed so I followed guidance in articles "Firefox Sync is not working" (Uninstalled Sync add-on, updated Firefox on all devices, and Replaced Sync data) and "Replace your Sync information" which worked to get identical bookmarks on desktop and laptop. I used the desktop data as the sync data and added the laptop as a device. But when I change bookmarks on the laptop the changes do not sync with the desktop. I don't know what else to do.

Thanks for the suggestion Ibai, but I'm pretty sure I did that and it still didn't work. In my frustration I decided to try XMarks, which is accomplishing my needs, but I'm concerned with this as a long-term solution because it was recently purchased by the "Last Pass" company, which disabled password sync. This is not a huge deal for me because I use 1Password, but I'm worried about XMarks somehow becoming incompatible with 1Password as the Last Pass company moves forward with encouraging people to use their password software instead. Since it is working now I'm hesitant to mess with it anymore. Does that sound reasonable or should I trash the XMarks add-on and reconfigure Firefox sync and make sure I click the Tools->Sync Now drop down to give Firefox sync another try? Pros/Cons?

  • At the very foot of the window - showing firefox website - there has been "firefox synch is not working - cannot find - (something like that what's to do

This has been so - since my Fox Tabs and top sites went missing and the operation of firefox - tabs and ALL was subjected to an invasion my search/conduit - I need my Techie friend - he recommended firefox - but after search /conduit barged in every thing was quite spoiled - My Techie buddy called them Spy-Wares - I have malware bytes and that clears most of it - but I do not find it easy to get the tabs back

    Hi Patricia,
A notification that Firefox sync is not working can be compared to the official timestamp of the last Firefox sync in the about:config page. search for "lastsync" and that will have a value of when it last synced.
I am happy to hear that the virus scan cleared most of the issues. In order to get the tabs back from the last session you can click sessionrestore on the home page. [[How do I restore my tabs from last time?]] may be helpful, however if you have restarted Firefox since the tabs may no longer be there.
This add on allows session restore called [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/session-manager/ Session Manager]

  • Sync is not working in Firefox 30

I've just installed Windows 7 x64 and Firefox 30. I've succesfully logged in with my Sync account but nothing happens. Sync is not working in this device but it does in others. Other devices have also the latest version of Firefox.

    Hi viru,
Please sign out of Firefox Sync on that device and log in one more time. I understand that you have successfully logged in, but nothing is happening.
If this is not helping, I would recommend creating a new profile and copying the that in the current profile into a new one. [[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
Please post back with your results, it can help other users!

  • Sync is not working, even if I force it

I have several PCs set up with a Sync account, but it bothers me to no end that Sync is not working as I feel it should.
Yeah, I know that's a bit of a cop out, but to be honest, Google's sync feature is far better than Firefox's but I can't stand how slow Chrome gets with multiple tabs.
Firefox Sync does fine with my addons, my history, but it absolutely refuses to update any of the bookmarks I make in any specific location.
    Example:
I accidentally deleted a favorite from a folder on my favorites tool bar. I re-added it and it shows up at home, but on my work PC, that same folder is STILL missing that bookmark 2 days later, and after several forced sync sessions.
Why can't something like this work on demand? Why do I have to fight with it like this? Why does everything else work fine with sync, but this one problem?
And it's global - every PC that is set up on Sync is still showing the bookmark as removed, but re-added it does nothing.
Resetting Sync also does nothing for me - if I make changes by adding more bookmarks to any system, they take forever (I have no idea as to the real time window) to show up.

    Saw this on another post.
Applecare Senior Advisor Txx Bxxx (I have his contact info in an email he just sent) just confirmed with me that the problem people are having with the App Store not loading is an apple issue with there servers, ITS NOT YOUR IPAD so don't go restoring it!   It's not happening to everyone however but they are looking into it, its really hit or miss.

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This works for some users. Not sure why.
Go to Settings>General>Date and Time> Set Automatically>Off. Set the date ahead by about a year. Then see if you can connect to the store.

  • Firefox sync is not sync after login details entered

I recently formatted my pc, installed firefox, entered my firefox sync info, but no joy, firefox sync doesn't sync my bookmarks and other data, nothing happens or shows!!! useless

hello NissiBloem, firefox sync is not designed as a backup service but to keep multiple devices on the same level.
in order to access the data in your sync account you'd need three components: the '''username''', the '''password '''& the '''recovery key''' generated during the original setup of the account (you're prompted to print it/save it/write it down while setting it up).
in case you have all those three pieces of information available, you can go to ''firefox > options > sync > set-up sync > i have an account > i don't have the device with me'' in order to link firefox to your account.
