Instrument I/O Assistant not available

I upgrade to Labview 8.5 from 8.2 and I am unable to find the Instrument I/O assistant on the pallete. When I open a VI that used the Instrument I/O and double click on the Instrument I/O Assistant VI a message come up to search for the vi. Where is the vi at? I uninstalled the Instrument I/O and reinstalled from the driver CD but still no luck.

  • GPIB vi created with Instrument I/O assistant not timing out

I am new to Labview and I am trying to write a
program to control a HiPot tester via GPIB. This HiPot tester is used
on several other projects, so its GPIB address can vary. I want to use
Labview to scan for this device on the bus and then configure it.
I used the Instrument I/O Assistant to create a subVI that can query
the device for its manufacturer and model information. In this VI I
created some connectors that allow an outside program to input the bus
and device number. These numbers are formatted into a string and then
used to send commands to the GPIB device.
If I use this vi and specify the correct bus and device IDs for the
hipot tester, I get back the expected data. However if I send in the
wrong device ID (or wrong bus), the program hangs.
The Instrument I/O Assistant creates a timeout value of 2000 msec for
the operations. The *RST and *IDN? commands are sent first and then the
VI performs read operations to fill 128 bytes. So I figure that the
longest this should take to timeout is 2000*130 msec = 4.3 minutes. But
10 minutes later the VI is still running.
Why does this operation not timeout if the device and bus IDs on GPIB are not correct?
    Brian Rose

    Hi Brian
the first problem would appear to be that you send a reset command. But you only give the instrument
100ms to reset/reboot before your query its identify. If you have the instrument manual check to see actual timing
    of bus etc.
As a rule of thumb I wait 300ms - If you run  NI spy you will be able to see exactly when processes occur.
Add a sequence frame between reset command and id command.Place a
wait icon in the frame with a control on the input time so that you can
    adjust time from front panel.
Initially set time to 400msand see what NI spy reveals.
    Go for it

  • Instrument I/O Assistant not installed correctly

I've been troubleshooting this problem for over 2 weeks now and every response to this question that has found success I have tried, but was unable to fix the problem.
in labView, double selecting the I/O Assistant it reads the infamous text
"I I/O Assistant Not installed correctly or..."
I have downloaded the latest NI-VISA 5.1.3 (or the latest), NI-488.2.  In order to install the NI-VISA I needed to find a .net 4.0 framework & Visual Studios 2003 or better.  After this failed, I downloaded the DCD_AUG12_1 & 2_Downloaders.  After that did not work it left me considering if my machine or equipment is the problem, or if the software is just unable to support these features.
    My System Information includes
    Windows XP 32 bit
    Drivers Include:
    8757d
    Agilent 34401
    HP8753x
    Connection Attempting:
    GPIB Ethernet
When launching labView I receive an error
"The web server cannot start.  Is the webserver port already in use...
...labView Network Address is in use"
When trying to communicate with the machine connected to my computer, I can write to it, however I cannot read from or query information from it.  NI says its connected just fine.
Lastly my NI is 2005 and Labview is 8.0
I am pretty novice in this equipment and technology.  So if there is any specific details that I need to add, please let me know and I will update the post to include such details.

    RxTx,
It looks like you might actually have too new of a version of VISA. Please see the following KnowlegdeBase article for more information about which version you require:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/E7C93038169B6E7686257847004B8B9C
It looks like VISA 4.3 is the newest version you can have for your version of LabVIEW.
Let me know if that fixes the issue!

  • Instrument I/O Assistant not properly installed

    Hi,
I recently purchased a student edition of Labview 2009 and I've been having problems with the intrument I/O Assitant. Each time I place it on the block diagram I get the error message that it was not properly installed. I've searched the knowledge bases and carried out the recommended remedies to no avail. I downloaded drivers from NI.com, uninstalled NI VISA and reinstalled the its latest version still nothing worked. Can someone please help me out here.
    Thanks

    Hello,
I see that you uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, but did you make sure to only reinstall the Instrument Assistant after the drivers? Also, what operating system and driver versions are you using?

  • Measurement and Automation explorer or the Instrument I/O Assistant is not installed correctly.

I am having difficulties getting Labview to work with my NI card.  I have a PCI_6225 card running on a Win 7 64-bit install.  I had to download all of the drivers and installers from the NI site and during the Labview install, I recieve a prompt asking for my hardware drivers.  Since I only have the compressed hardware installer, Labview doesn't like what it sees and continues the installation of LABVIEW.  I then attempt to open an analog input channel through the Instrument I/O Assistant which displays the error seen in the image attached.
I know the hardware works because in the Measurement and Automation client, I am able to observe the analog input I hope to collect in LABVIEW.
Is there a fix to get LABVIEW working?  I have tried multple installs of LABVIEW and am on a administered computer through my University's IT people.  I have 'full admin' rights.  Thanks.

    Hello jbaxter,
When you download the Drivers from NI's website, make sure you unzip them (extract them) to a folder on your computer before you install them. If you use the NI Downloader it should prompt you to unzip and run the files after the download is complete. You need to either repair, or reinstall DAQmx and NI VISA. Make sure you download the latest versions of these first:
     http://search.ni.com/nisearch/app/main/p/bot/no/ap/global/lang/en/pg/1/sn/catnav:du,ssnav:sup/1//en/...
Then go to Control Panel»Programs and Features»National Instruments Software and click Uninstall/Change then go to DAQmx and NI-VISA and click Repair. You can then point to folder that you downloaded from NI's website (make sure this is not a zip folder, but the folder that has been extracted). Or you could choose Remove, and then reinstall them both again. Also if you are using GPIB, reinstall or repair the NI-488.2 driver.

  • Instrument i/o assistant doesnt work

I have installed LV 8.20   evaluation Version on a WIN2K PC
and added the  instrument i/o assistant from the Device Driver Reference CD 1(May 2006).
When I drop the instrument i/o assistant  in blank vi and try to configure it ,
I get a popup that  tells me:
"Measurement & Automation Explorer or instrument i/o assistant  not installed correctly.
Please install  these from the driver CD".
Same on another WIN2K PC .

    Hello beethoven,
please think about downloading the latest driver CD of this year (August 06) which is available from:
    ftp://ftp.ni.com/outgoing/
This is a rather huge file (~1 GB), so this is only useful if you have a broadband connection. In case I could also create a Service Request and sent these files on CD. In parallel I will setup a system with the same configuration (LV eval) for testing.
Please alternatively try to install the following files from the attached ZIP to the following location ('instrIOAsst' folder deeds to be created):
    \LabVIEW 8.0\vi.lib\instrIOAsst
Unzip all of the files to the folder, start LV again and drop an IIOA VI on the blockdiagram.
Let me know if this works.
Otherwise post your email here and I will create a Service Request for you.

    C.L.

  • Again : I/O Assistant not installed correctly.

    I Run LV 8.6 and MAX 4.5 ( XP, SP3 , AMD64x2-6 GHz , 4 GB RAM, 3 TB HDD ).
    LV works perfectly.
However, I stumble upon the very same problem of the past when trying to run the I-O Assistant express.vi ( " MAX or Instrument I/O Assistant not installed correctly. Install from LV Driver CD "),
I installed the LV Driver CD ( the March 2008 1-2-3  version, this should work, it did in the past ).
But at present no I/O Assistant shows up.
Then I downloaded separately and installed the I/O-Assistant driver, but no success again.
I recall from the past I encountered this very same problem, which was resolved in one way or another but I failed to document how.

If they are we can try to fix the driver through the windows control panel. If they are not; please run the installer again and double check if the Labview 8.5 API has been selected; you may also consider to use a newer driver; NI VISA 4.6 .
I was puzzled and still am a bit, but WOW, as per your advice I deinstalled the NI-VISA 4.3 and downloaded and installed the 4.6 one and guess what ? It works.
I wonder why the 4.3 obviously failed since it did do the job in the past.
I wouldn't have raised myself the idea to reinstall the NI-VISA driver, so thanks.

    Hello there Tumblweed22,
I saw your post about the issue you are having with Solution Center not showing up or working on your Windows Vista. I noticed you have already attempted an install and uninstall which did not resolve the issue. I would like to make some suggestions for you.
    1. Perform a Clean Boot to turn off the start up programs on your PC, which may be preventing the software from being installed correctly. How to perform a clean boot in Windows (Choose Windows Vista and follow the steps).
    2. Download and run a Level 3 Uninstall (uninstall_l3) to remove the printer driver and any software
(if you are on a non-HP computer with no other HP devices installed, you may perform a Level 4 uninstall):
HP Officejet Software and Driver Removal Utility
    3. With the start up programs still turned off, reinstall the printer software and driver: Drivers & Software (Select your 8600's Model Number and download the Full Feature Driver).
    4. Once the installation completes, you can re-start the start up programs from the clean boot.
    I hope this helps!
    Good luck

    Hello phylab,
The Instrument I/O Assistant (IIOA) is used for easily communicating with GPIB instruments in Labview. For Labview version 7.1, the IIOA is available on the shipping reference driver CD. It should be automatically
installed when you're prompted to enter the driver CD, through setup.exe. Is this your first time using it or has it worked in the past? Do you also have the NI-VISA and NI-488.2 drivers? And you installed the LabVIEW cd before the driver cd, correct? The fix should be to uninstall and reinstall IIOA from the device driver CD.

  • Does Instrument I/O Assistant only work in the activated version of LabView 8.0 and not in evaluation version?

I'm using the LabVIEW 8.0 evaluation CD and every time I try using the Instrument I/O Assistant I get this error message "Measurement and Automation Explorer or the Instrument I/O Assistant is not installed correctly. Please install these from the LabVIEW Driver CD." So I tried installing both from the Device Driver CD and still it didn't work. I also tried uninstalling all NI softwares and components and reinstalled everything from the LabVIEW evaluation CD and Device Driver CD and still the same result.
I was wondering maybe the Instrument I/O Assistant will only work after I activate LabVIEW. Is this the reason why I can't use it or does Instrument I/O Assistant also work even if I'm only using the evaluation version? Please help!

    Glynster -
Yes, Instrument I/O Assistant does work with the evaluation version of LabVIEW 8.0.  However, you need to install Instrument I/O Assistant from a version of the National Instruments Device Driver CD that shipped with LabVIEW 8.0 (or later).
NOTE: The link provided for Instrument I/O Assistant 1.0.1 DOES NOT work with LabVIEW 8.0. It is only for LabVIEW 7.x.
You will need to obtain a Driver CD to get Instrument I/O Assistant to work with LabVIEW 8.0

  • LabVIEW 8.5 - error: M&A Explorer or Instrument I/O Assistant is not installed correctly: what to do?

    Dear NI creators and users,
I freshly installed the LabVIEW 8.5 and the default set of device drivers (on a new Windows XP machine), all of which I downloaded as disk images from our university central repository (we have a site-wide license). The first thing I tried to place in my first VI was the "Instrument I/O Assistant" and I got this message: "Measurement and Automation Explorer or Instrument I/O Assistant is not installed correctly. Please install these from the LabVIEW Driver CD." I tried to repair the installation, but no change. The M&A Explorer comes up fine, when I select it from the Tools menu, so I doubt, that the problem is there. Needless to say, the "Instrument I/O Assistant" throws the same error when double-clicked in the template file.
Does anybody have a similar or the same experience? What can I do to solve this problem? Perhaps I should add that the computer with LabVIEW is intentionally not connencted to the internet, so in case the solution involves an update, I would very much appreciate some guidance to an off-line update
Many thanks to all for any helpful remarks.

  • I want to communicate a RS485/2-wire device through COM1. I tried Instrument I/O Assistance to write to COM1(hex string with or without end bye:0D0A), something happened on the bus, but is not defirrential signal, and device didn't recognised them.

I am new to LabView, so please bear with me...
I tried to communicate with an RS485/2-wire device through COM1.  I used Instrument I/O Assistant (and Advanced/Basic Serial Write and Read examples) to write command (HEX string) to COM1,
tried writing HEX strings with and withour end bye (is 0D0A the correct end signal for HEX string?).  Both didn't get device's responce.  Looks like the device didn't recognize the command.
I monitored the transmitted signals on the bus, they were not differential as supposed to be.....
What is the possible reason to cause this? Please help...
The hardware connection is OK, because I am able to communicate with the device through COM1 (with the same command) using different software application.

How are you sending the hex? Is your string control set for hex display or normal? If it's set for normal, then if you send something like 'AD', then you aer sending the ASCII characters 'A' and 'D' and that's not the same thing. I don't believe the I/O assistant can send hex but you can modify the basic serial write and read to do so. Just right click on the string control and select 'Hex Display'. You can also enter the data in a numeric control (set for dex display) and use a type cast or an array of U8's and use the Byte Array to String function. Hex data usually doesn't use any kind of termination characters such as CR/LF.
If communication is working with another app, then as you said, the hardware is okay and it's not a problem with differential signaling.
