Insttalling Airport Card - does not automatically configure

Any ideas to get a perfectly good Airport Card working? Bought new, worked fine; then had to put in other Mac to test networking. Upon putting back in the original machine, I am unable to configure properly. Thanks.

The PCI PowerMac G4 has no built-in capability to accept airport cards, except through third party PCI adapter cards, and external ethernet LAN port sharing on a WiFi access point/airport base station.
The PowerMac G5 uses a different type of airport card, and the card used in a PowerMac G5 can't be used in an AGP PowerMac G4. Starting with the PowerMac G4 Firewire 800 and PowerMac G5s Apple used Airport Extreme cards, which are not compatible with older PowerMac G4s, and the older PowerMac G4s original airport card can't be used with the newer models.
So don't try to mix and match cards unless you know they are compatible:

Computer is 1 year old. I have never had to use sd card slot until now. When I put sd card it does not automatically pop up on screen like my other computers. How to I acces my files?

    Hi,
Can you still see it in File Explorer ? To protect your machine (virus, malware ...) Windows 8.1 will ask you to open it or not. You should hear a sound when you plug an external HDD or SD card to your computer.
I would not ask my machine to pop up SD card or anything automatically. Can you hear a sound when you put SD card to your computer ? At the same time, a message will pop up and ask you what do you want to do with it.
    Regards.

  • My airport card does NOT fit!

I've been searching and searching for my answer in the forums, so my apologies if the answer is already out there...
    Problem:
    I have a PowerMac G4 (firewire 800 - Mirrored Driver Doors).
I just bought an Original Airport Card that had said IN THE DESCRIPTION that the card would fit my specific computer.
However, when I received it, I found it does not fit!
I've looked at the computer manual and have seen exactly where the airport card should slide into.
BUT seems that the bracket that the card should slip into, is too small. I've now done search after search for which card that I REALLY do need, but all results say that this "original airport card" IS the one that I need. One result did say that I needed an adapter. But I dont see how an adapter would help me if the bracket is too small even for the card.
I am baffled and extremely frustrated.
Can someone be CLEAR about exactly what I need?
    -MandyZ

If it has a FW800 port on the back, it will use Airport Extreme
If it does not have a FW800 port (i.e., FW400 only), it will use regular Airport. When the original Airport cards were made and speced, the FW800 MDD G4 models had not yet been produced.

  • Airport card does not work with Airport Extreme when security is turned on

I have an iMac running OSX 10.4.11 with an Airport card installed (firmware version 9.52).
I recently replaced my Netgear wireless router with an Apple Extreme Base station and now I am not able to connect my iMac to the wireless network when WEP security is turned on - I get an error from the Airport Setup Assistant when I attempt to connect to the wireless network.
It works fine if the wireless security on the Extreme Base station is turned off.
Please help and thanks in advance.
    Motasim

First, I highly recommend that you switch to either WPA or WPA2 as WEP is no longer considered secure. If you must use WEP, I suggest that you try the following:
o Re-create the Network Name (SSID) on your AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS)
o Try using 128-bit WEP, with a 26-Hex character key for the encryption type.

  • System does not automatically reconnect to wifi network after sleep/restart

My iMac G4 (2GB RAM, 10.5.1, AirPort Extreme) does not automatically reconnect to my wife network after waking from sleep or restart. I just recently switched the iMac from a wired to wireless set-up though the machine has always had the AirPort card. In wired mode, it always automatically found the network.
Network preferences have the "Ask to join new networks" checkbox selected. Below the checkbox it reads "Known networks will be joined automatically."
My wireless router is Linksys WRT150N, security type is PSK and encryption method is AES key.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I'm having the same problem, the only way i can connect to my wireless network is to restart the computer, and open safari immediately. Then once it goes to sleep or i shut the notebook, i have to restart it again to use the internet. It's driving me nuts, and nobody knows how to fix it. I've tried firefox (it didn't help) and my sisters macbook connects just fine to my network, so it has to be a network setting. I'm going to schedule an appointment with a mac store tomorrow. so I'll post again when they fix it for me. hopefully i will understand how they solve the problem so i can post it to you guys

  • Airport Extreme Card (will not automatically connect to home network)

Running OSX (10.4.7) on a G5 2.0 DualCore. I just had an Airport Extreme Card installed by Apple a week ago. Everything was working fine with WiFi ( I use a Lynksys Router. But oddly now when I cold boot up, the Airport Extreme will not automatically connect to my home network. The little Airport icon on the upper right is always greyed out ( even though clicking on the icon... says that Airport is "On" ). So I now have to manually select my home network everytime I boot up. The first week or so though, I didn't have to do this...it just automtically connected to my home network. I made no changes to the router settings, nor the Network prefs.

I have been able to get my home network running with simultaneous access to the internet with the MacMini and the PB G4 via a WL router (Netgear WGR614v4 with four ethernet ports).
    This was the process:
1a) Turned off airport on both computers.
1b) Turned off both compters and
1c) disconnected the router from the cable modem.
    a) Disconnected ethernet cable from WL router to Macmini.
2b) Powered down the router for 10 seconds.
3a) Keeping both computers unpowered, repowered router and pressed the reset button (behind an unmarked tiny hole in the back of the router) then re-connected it to cable modem. Waited 30 - 40 seconds until internet service lights flickered green.
3b) Reconnected ethernet cable to MacMini and turned on power for MacMini. No Airport running. With administrator privilege I configured in Syst. Prefs. "Sharing" folder Internet access using "Built in Ethernet" port for computers running "Airport".
    4) Turned Airport network on in MacMini and started browser.
    Result: Internet connection established.
5a) Powered up PB G4 and then turned Airport on.
5b) In Syst. Prefs. in "Sharing" folder turned Internet Sharing off. But set "Share your connection from Airport" to computers using: Airport with check-mark. (No Built-in Ethernet and no Built-in FireWire!)
5c)Started browser. Result: Internet connection established.
6a) In the Finder window of both computers I clicked on "Go" in toolbar and looked for the name of the other computer, which were listed as alias besides the "Library" and "Servers" aliases. Clicking on the computer alias brought up the 'Networked Globe' and a control button "Connect".
6b) Clicking on "Connect" brought up the mounted drive of the other computer.
    Result: Wireless network operational.
PS: I don't dare yet using encryption for the airport network. That's for another day.

  • HT1752 iMac flat panel 2003 shows airport but does not connect

Hi,iMac flat panel 2003 shows airport but does not connect

    No problems.
    Let's double-check your iMac's Internet Sharing configuration:
To setup for Internet Sharing (Wired to Wireless):
    Setup the Network
Cable Modem > (Ethernet cable) > \[Ethernet port] iMac > (wireless) > MacBook
    Enable Software Firewall (iMac)
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
o Block all incoming connections (enabled)
    Enable Internet Sharing (iMac)
    System Preferences > Sharing
o Select "Internet Sharing" from the options in the left column
o Share your connection from: Built-in Ethernet
o To computers using: AirPort (checked) (Note: Uncheck all other entries in the list.)
    AirPort Options... (iMac)
    o Network Name: <anything you want>
    o Channel: Automatic
o Enable encryption <do NOT enable at this time>
    o Click OK
    o Select "Internet Sharing" again
o Click "Start" to start Internet Sharing
    o Click Start
Please verify these settings, and try accessing the Internet from the MacBook again. For this exercise, I suggest co-locating the MacBook with the iMac.

  • IBook G4 Airport Extreme does not see any SSID

    Hi,
My iBook 1,2 Ghz has been working great for several years now.
I am working with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) for quite some time
and it never let me down. I connect to the internet using an Airport Express
    connected to a speedtouch router.
The Airport Express Card in my iBook always found 6 or 7 SSID's of other
Wireless Networks in my neighbourhood and it used to login automatically on
my Airport Express wireless wetwork station.
Last week it suddenly stopped working correctly.
After starting OS X on my laptop the little Airport icon in the upper bar faded out grey.
When I click it it says it can't find any networks.
I checked all my settings, downgraded my Airport Extensions
and even installed a spare (refurbished) Airport Extreme Card.
Even with another Airport Extreme Card it does not see any wireless networks.
My other macs, a unibody MacBook Pro and white MacBook work fine with the Airport Express.
What could be wrong? Am I overlooking something here? Can somebody help me out?
How can i get my Airport Express/iBook G4 connected to my wireless network again?

    Hi Elko,
    Thanks for the reply.
I re-installed the original Airport Extreme card into the slot again.
But now i pushed it harder than the first time. (just like you said)
I noticed the second click, but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
Both Airport Cards (the original and the new) were installed correctly.
I also checked the antenna connection but that is seated o.k. too.
After re-installing the card, i booted into Mac OS X Tiger and checked the ASP.
It says a Airport Extreme Card is installed with firmware version 405.1 (3.90.34.0.p.18)
and the langauge version is international/worldwide. So far, so good.
Nevertheless the airport card does still not find any wireless networks or SSID's after
scanning multiple times. (Location on automatic)
I am planning an upgrade to Leopard today. Maybe that's gonna help, since there were some Airport Extreme updates in Leopard. If that's not the solution, I will stay with your other suggestion and buy me a nice USB dongle.
Do you have any idea what type of dongles work best with Leopard? I have seen some different models, but a lot of dongles require third-party software to make it work and are not automatically recognized by OS X.

  • Your credit card does not match your bank's records

your credit card does not match your bank's records. appears at purchase in itunes store.
2 months with no solution on this. Nothing has changed with my bank at all. Yet apple was able to bill the same card for my mobile me acct. so the card does in fact work! I emailed and got what I already knew. see below, then my reply.
    Dear Eric,
You can change your iTunes Store billing information at any time. When you update your credit card number or billing address through the iTunes Store, any equivalent information you might use with MobileMe, iPhoto, Aperture, or the Apple Store online is also updated.
To update your billing address or credit card number, follow these steps:
    1) Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes. It can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download
Eric, installing the latest version of iTunes will not affect your library or any items in your account that you haven't downloaded.
    2) Click this link: http://phobos.apple.com/accountSummary
iTunes will automatically launch and the sign-in dialog will appear.
    3) If you are not already signed in, you will need to enter your iTunes Store account name and password and then click the Account Info button.
    4) On your Apple Account Information page, click Edit Payment Information
Make the necessary changes. Your billing address should be exactly the same as the address on your credit card statement and with the United States Postal Service (click "Find a ZIP Code" at http://www.usps.com and follow the onscreen instructions). This is important, because even differences in punctuation, abbreviation, and capitalization can cause payment errors that might prevent you from using the iTunes Store.
    5) When all of the information is up to date, click Done.
When you update your billing information, the iTunes Store places an authorization hold on your credit card to verify your account information. You might see this authorization request on your online statement. This is not an actual charge; it is simply a test to confirm that your credit card account is active and has credit available to accommodate transactions.
Authorization requests are automatically removed from your account by your financial institution. The amount of time it takes to remove authorization requests varies by financial institution. If you have any questions about the way your financial institution handles authorization requests, please contact their customer-service department.
Thank you for your time. If you have any other questions or concerns, regarding your iTunes Store account, Eric, please feel free to reply to this email. Have a great day.
    Sincerely,
    Timothy

    My reply
I've read the support pages through and through and have gone through all of these steps in the past. Nothing on my end has changed. This card has been used for approx three years now, never to have been edited. As stated... In the midst of all of this difficulty, you were able to bill the same card for my mobile me subscription. Which should technically not gone through due to the supposed billing info not matching my bank's records! So quite simply, my card does work, this is something on your end, not my bank.
And I did however change the type case to match my statement to no avail. This never made a difference in the past, but I tried it regardless.
After attempting things for two months, I am growing tired of trying to spend my money on Apple. I will try one more suggestion if one is available. After that, I have had great success with the amazon store and may have to flip over to them. My time is way too valuable to be troubleshooting a problem I did not create.
any specific help would be appreciated (please do not copy and paste tips from the support pages... been there)
    Eric

As a follow up to my last post, I thought I would offer you my customer service experience as I am hoping you can avoiding going through what I've been through and that this will save you some time.
I'm listing the discourse chronologically for your convenience:
Specific request: My credit card or billing information is not accepted
    Details:
iTunes says my credit card information does not match my bank information and will not let me make purchases. I have updated my account information and I still cannot make purchases. I get the same message that my card does not match my bank's information- which it does.
    Please help.
    TrackID: 1--------------
    Dear ----------,
Welcome to Apple iTunes Store Customer Support. My name is Snehashish.
I am sorry to hear that you haven't been able to make purchases on the iTunes Store with your credit card. I know this is frustrating, and I will try to provide as much information as I can to help you resolve it.
-----------, upon checking your account I find your credit card will be expired after this month. So you have to change it then. I suggest you to change it now or contact your credit card company as it is declined by iTunes.
The iTunes Store has been unable to verify an authorization from your credit card company. There are several possible reasons for this:
    - Your credit card company's servers may have been busy. Trying again later may resolve the issue.
    - Your card may not have been activated yet. If so, you will need to activate it.
    - You may need to call your credit card company before the authorization is approved.
    - You may need to ensure that you correctly located the credit card's security code. To see instructions for locating the security code, choose View My Account from the iTunes Store menu, sign in to your account, click Edit Payment Information, and then click the "What is this?" link next to the Security Code field.
    - Your billing name or address does not match the address listed on your credit card statement. Any discrepancy in punctuation, abbreviation, or capitalization can cause errors, which might prevent you from purchasing from the iTunes Store. If you moved, or if your zip code changed recently, ask your credit card company to make sure its records are up to date and match exactly what you are entering as your billing information.
--------, please follow these steps to confirm or update your account information:
    1) Go to the My Apple ID site at:
    http://appleid.apple.com/
    2) If the site is not displayed in your preferred language, click the Change Language link in the upper-right corner, type the name of your language in the field that appears, then click the Save button.
    3) Click the "Manage your account" link.
    4) Type your iTunes Store account name (which is your Apple ID) in the Apple ID field, type your password in the password field, then click the Sign In button.
    5) Click "Addresses" in the left column.
    6) Confirm or edit your information.
    7) Click "Phone Numbers" on the left. Make sure the area codes and phone numbers are entered correctly in their respective fields.
    8) Click Save Changes.
Once your information is updated, try placing an order on the iTunes Store again. If the iTunes Store still cannot obtain an authorization for your card, it means that your billing information is still incorrect, either with your credit card company or with its verification system, which may be handled by another company.
Fortunately, you may be able to make iTunes Store purchases with another payment method. For example, if PayPal accepts your credit card, you can use your PayPal account to buy from the iTunes Store. If you need more information about using PayPal on the iTunes Store, please let me know.
------, I hope this information is helpful. Thank you for your interest; I am pleased that you want to be an iTunes Store customer. Have a great day!
    Sincerely,

    Hello again,

    Sincerely,

    Greetings Snehashish,
When I wrote my original ticket it was to address the issue of the fact I had already updated my credit card information and I was still receiving the error message of "my credit card not matching my bank information" in iTunes. Giving me instructions on how to update my account information was not helpful because I had already taken that step. So, no, my problem remains unresolved and I am unable to make any purchases in iTunes or update my iPhone.
Luckily, the item I was looking to purchase was available on Amazon digitally so I went ahead and bought it there without any problem whatsoever with my credit card- furthering the mystery and the enigma that is iTunes rejection of my credit card.
Please send the next step to resolve my issue or please forward my ticket to someone who can resolve this for me.
    Thank you,

    Hello again Snehashish,
My address is confirmed and matches my bank account. I followed the steps as you directed with deleting my information downloading the free application and then re-entering my payment information. Despite already having the current version of iTunes, I re-downloaded the program and installed it on my computer. I logged into the link you sent me. I entered in my banking (again and without mistake) information exactly as it is on my billing information. I have now entered my credit card information correctly on iTunes repeatedly- it has not deviated nor changed and there has never been a mistake in my data entry. I have used this credit card at other locations and online stores without error and my banking and credit card information is correct.
I entered a credit card I DO NOT want to use in conjunction with my iTunes account and it was accepted without incident or error message. The problem is that the card I do want to use, that I NEED to use to make purchases on iTunes is not accepted. Both cards are issued through the same bank- one is debit and one is credit and they both link to the same bank account with the same home address. The debit card is being rejected and the credit card is accepted. My problem is not my address nor the account number as both have been entered correctly multiple times. iTunes is rejecting my particular card even though it is working and matches my bank information. This is the card I have always used to make purchases on iTunes and this error started when my old card expired and I attempted to update my account.
Every time I re-enter my credit card and try to make a purchase and I always get the following message:
"There are errors or omissions in the information. Please correct the indicated items: Your credit card does not match your bank's records. Please enter a US credit card and a matching billing address."
I have reset, re-downloaded, and re-entered everything on my end multiple times resulting in the same error from iTunes. I want to know what is happening with my account. If you do not have a solution then please escalate this ticket and please put me in contact with someone who can help me.
    Thank you for your time,
I found my solution in the Apple Support Community. It had nothing to do with my information being incorrect. I do not require your assistance any longer.
My issue resolution was actual very simple and came from this page. iTunes has a bug where it will not accept your information but if you add your credit card under you account in the Apple Store and CONFIRM then it will appear in your iTunes account automatically. I could have saved hours of email, calls to the bank and stupid angst if I had looked this up instead of TRYING to use Apple Customer Support. I've learned my lesson. I just want you to know that iTunes is bugged and broken in this respect and no matter how many times you enter your information IT DOESN'T WORK. I hope this helps someone else.
Apple please tell your customer support people how to actually help instead of having them paste in worthless form letters on how to use a credit card with iTunes. Obviously it iTunes that is broken.
    PLEASE FIX.

  • Installed graphics card does not support the opengl features recommended

I've installed FCP6 on my PowerMac (PPC G4 DP 1.25GHz), and when I run it, I get a warning ("...installed graphics card does not support the opengl features recommended...") and the program ends. The graphics card is the ATI Radeon 9000 Pro (64MB)
I'm looking for a definitive answer regarding my hardware compatibility with FCS2 (specifically, FCP6). I'm NOT looking for an answer along the lines of: your system is too old to run this.
I've checked the minimum system requirements from the apple website (http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
    and http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/download/):
    * A Macintosh computer with a 1.25GHz or faster PowerPC G4, PowerPC G5, Intel Core Duo, or Intel Xeon processor
    * 1GB of RAM
    * An AGP or PCI Express Quartz Extreme graphics card (Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors)
    * A display with 1024-by-768 resolution or higher
    * Mac OS X v10.4.11 or later
    * QuickTime 7.3 or later
    * DVD drive for installation
I have all that stuff. What I'd like is to know which component of my system is FCP6 complaining about (vis-a-vis the error message above), alternatively, if someone has had success with a similar configuration, I'd like to know anything they think might help.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice you may have.

The minimum would probably be an nVidia Fx5200 or an ATI 9600...

  • Wireless Card does not work in Windows 8.1 for G585

I just wanted to inform someone that the wireless network card does not work in Windows 8.1 Preview. I suspect the driver needs to be updated. When I go to the Device Manager it appears as a Realtek device RTL8192DE instead of a Qualcomm device that does not start. I tried installing the latest driver from the website but it makes the computer crash (BSOD) when trying to reboot after the installation which makes the Windows 8 automatic recovery turn on and I had to restore the system to a previous state before the driver installation.
For now, I just refreshed my system back to Windows 8, instead of trying to use Windows 8.1 Preview .  If you have any suggestions, it would be great, otherwise I'll wait for a driver update.

Oh goody. Just updated to 8.1 and it doesn't work. Looks like everyone else is having the same problem. Why no answer from Lenovo?
Please refer to the dedicated thread on "Blue" 8.1.

  • Does not automatically connect to recently used WIFI networks

Recently purchased 13" Macbook Air, with Lion installed. All's well, except upon start-up or waking up from sleep mode, it does not automatically re-connect to the WIFI network it was just connected to. Instead, I'd have to manually find the network to select it. (Incidentally, some of my friends who also use Macbook Air and Macbook Pros have also experienced this periodically.)
Another strange thing, is that there is this one particular WIFI network at work, that I've successfully connected to before, upon return the next time, all of a sudden, the network isn't even visible anymore. My OS5 iPhone sees it fine, and never has a problem, but repeatedly this happens. Other people at work who also use Macbook Pro and Macbook Air also encounter the same problem. People who are using PCs don't have the same experience.
Is there a setting somewhere? I have "Remember networks this computer has joined" checked, and I see the particular network listed as ones I've joined.
Any light that can be shed on this would be greatly appreciated. It's very frustrating, especially Airs don't have a built-in ethernet port. I hate using the adapter, it steals one of my USB slots.
    Thank you in advance!

    Hi sashton,
When troubleshooting Wi-Fi connectivity issues, I find the following resource has the most relevant information:
Troubleshooting Wi-Fi issues in OS X Lion and Mac OS X v10.6
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4628
Furthermore, you may want to avoid giving your network a common name. While the following article (and excerpt) refer to iOS devices, the same applies for your Mac:
Avoid giving your wireless network a common name (SSID)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4450
If you were to give your wireless network a common name (SSID), users of your network who use iOS devices [sic] and are away from your network would run the risk of joining a different network with the same name. Having joined the unexpected network, they would be exposed to potential data theft.
Because of this security issue, Apple maintains a list of common or ambiguous SSIDs, including the default SSID for many commercially available access points, as well as the SSIDs "wireless" and "default". If your network's name is on the list, any iOS device [sic] that joins the network stores the access point's BSSID and associates it with the network's SSID. Subsequently, it will only auto-join the network if the access point's BSSID matches the information the device has stored. This avoids joining a different network with the same name.
Therefore, you may want to refer to the following article when configuring your Wi-Fi router:
iOS and OS X: Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4199
    Thanks,
    Matt M.
