Insufficient Data for Image Adobe Reader XI

I have Adobe Reader XI and can clearly see my PDF's that I collate, however I am still getting the error message Insufficient Data for Image.  When I email the PDF the recipient cannot print them as the error message reads Insufficient Data for Image.  Any thoughts on how to resolve this please?

Edit your image using the Edit Text and images option
Right click on the image and edit
It will open the image in the native application.
Simply save the image again without making any changes and see if that helps.

    A "quick" fix that worked for me was to uninstall Adobe... then download the base install for Adobe Reader 11.0.
    Then download each of the individual updates and run them sequentially. 
    I've installed back up to the last security update which is version 08 and have been able to do normal Save As operations.
    You will have to disable automatic updates in order to stay at version 08 until Adobe resolves this issue in a later release.

  • Reader XI still gives "insufficient data for image" error

    Our fax machine creates .pdf files of the faxes and recently our back office has had trouble printing them. When I look at them they give an "insufficient data for image" error, but only on one page each. I've tried upgrading to reader XI but the problem persists. I've gotten around it by taking a screenshot and printing the one page that doesn't work so far, but I'd like to get this fixed. It only started happening today. I have a call in to our fax provider, but I was wondering if anyone here had any possible solutions.

    It is also happening to me (running v 11.0.2).  I tried adjusting the various settings under the "View" menu and at best could only see part of what was missing.  I resolved the issue by downloading and installing Foxit Reader.  Bingo! now I can see the entire document.

  • Error opening PDF in 9.1.0 ("Insufficient Data for image") and 7.0.9

    I generate PDF documents in code (basically converts TIFF images to PDF, using FOP).
    Few of the PDFs can not be viewed on Adobe Reader 9.1.0, and 7.0.9. But, these open fine on 8.0 version.
    With 9.1.0 version I get error as "Insufficient Data for image"
    With 7.0.9  the error is "A drawing error occured"
    8.0 works fine and opens the PDF.
    Is there any issue with 9.1.0 for opening PDFs, I got this version installed recently on my system.
    Appreciate an early help/views on this issue.

    Try this - from adobe support!
    It worked for me and (as it seems) solved a one year long anoying issue.
    1. Exit Acrobat.
    2. Choose Start > Run, and type: %APPDATA%\Adobe\Acrobat\ into the Open text box. Click OK.
    3. Right-click either the 6.0 or 7.0 folder, and choose Delete.
    I deleted both folders.
    Dont worry these two preferences folders will automatically be renewed by acrobat!

  • PDF's I'm creating with Group 4 data report Insufficient Data for Image

    I am maintaining a software application, which creates PDF files from JPEG and TIFF (with Group 4 compression) image files, which typically come from scanners.  It has performed well for many years, but as of the release of Adobe Reader X, we are seeing "Insufficient Data for Image" on some images.
    I've read reports of this message on these forums, and I've tried shrinking the image, adjusting zoom, and upgrading to Adobe Reader XI -- none of these have worked.
    Our software creates these PDF files by wrapping the raw image data in an XObject, which looks like this:

    Wherein, the <<BINARY DATA>> are 31,512 bytes of raw image data -- the same data which would appear in a Group 4 compressed TIFF file. 
    Indeed, when we do create a Group 4 TIFF file with the same binary data, it opens successfully in all common viewers.
    Any assistance, such as the precise meaning of this error message, could be helpful.

    Just a note that the bug appears to relate to JPXDecode, so far as all previous reports seem to suggest (no inside information). JPXDecode supports multiple image resolutions in the same image, so messing with zoom sometimes helps. If you can post a complete file somewhere it might interest someone who could analyse it.
    The message simply means that decompressing the filters does not yield enough bytes. This may either reflect that there really isn't enough data, or it could indicate any kind of data error (which causes the filter to silently return EOF).

    I just received an update to version 10.1.4.  My previous version was 10.1.23.  After the upgrade , I started to receive an error message insufficient data for image.  This is the first time this error appeared so it has to be related to the new version.   I unistalled this version and installed version 9, the problem went away.  Is anyone else having this issue or is there a fix for this issue?

    Sorry I was so slow.
    By the time you see the "Insufficient data for an image" message it is too late.
    Exit Acrobat without saving anything. If you save the PDF it is worthless; reget the original.
    Note that when I tried this procedure just using the "Optimize Scanned PDF" tool instead of saving and working with an optimized PDF the procedure failed with the "Insufficient data for an image" message. As a result, though the following procedure seems to include some redundant steps they appear to be necessary in this context.
    From here on I'll assume you have added "Recognize text in this file" and "Manage Embedded Index" to your Quick Tools.
    Open the downloaded PDF
    File > Save As > Optimized PDF
         UNcheck "Optimize images only if there is a reduction in size"
         OK
         Save [at this point you may want to save it under another name]
              (for my PDF for my machine this took 5 minutes)
              (I got the following message:
                  Conversion warning: THe PDF document contained image masks that were not downsampled"
                   OK
    Select the "Recognize text in this file" quick tool
         On the Recognize Text panel
              Mark "all pages"
              "Primary OCR Language English (US);
              PDF Output Style Searchable Image
              Downsample To: 600 dpi"
              OK
              (for my PDF for my machine this took 15 minutes)
    Select the "Manage embedded index" quick tool
         On the Manage Embedded Index panel
              Select "Embed Index"
              "The PDF document needs to be saved before an index can be embedded. Do you want to save and continue?"
              Yes
              Status: Index has been embedded"
              OK
    Edit > Find > Hog [this edit test works] so this workaround did the job.

  • Insufficient data for image (9-9.3) or a blank page (8.1)

    Hi,
    We recently started using a Xerox workcenter 5675 to scan document to my central server. About 3 days ago users started reporting an error message with a white page. I immediately checked the copier, nothing changed setting wise. It has been fully restarted, and other software like Sumatra PDF, and Apple's Preview applications open the PDFs just fine.
    In any version of 9 the error "insufficient data for image" pops up. In 8.1 it just shows a blank page.
    I would like to troubleshoot this issue, as we need to use the features of creating PDFs.
    Is there a way I can view the code of the PDF and post it or even submit it to a site or software to identify any bad code, so that then I know it is the copier? Is there a way to reduce the strict rules reader follows?
    Anyone have any ideas or clues as to what the issue might be, for the PDFs to be fine one day and not the next? I can easily provide a few PDFs made days apaprt for review.

    I do not really have any ideas.  What software product you use to run the scan - Acrobat, or Xerox' own software?
    If Acrobat, please try the Acrobat forum, and mention your OS and Acrobat version.
    If Xerox, contact them.

  • "Insufficient data for an image" when opening a PDF, even with Adobe Reader 11.0.06

    I have extracted some pages from a large, scanned, PDF into a separate document, using a product called Nuance PDF Converter 7, and when we try to open that with Adobe Reader 11.0.06, we receive the error "Insufficient data for an image".  I have read that this error was supposed to be fixed with the latest version of Adobe Reader 11, but I have installed that, and it doesn't help.

    I am also having this problem, especially with scanned documents. Since I need to download scanned documents in my work this is a big problem!Sometimes I can read but not save the document, sometimes one or two of the pages will be blank from the start. I have the latest version of Adobe Reader XI (11.0.10). I tried reducing the page zoom, a suggested workaround on this page: Acrobat: “Insufficient data for an image” error after updating to 10.1.4 or 9.5.2,  but that did not help at all. FWIW I use a Windows 8.1 PC with 4 GB RAM. I usually download PDFs from the internet using Firefox.

    This message only comes up when editing.
    I've been trying to recreate different scenarios and it seems that it is constantly happening when I delete a page and try to save the PDF.  After deleting a page, when I try to save I get this:
    When I try to close out it lets me save but then viewing the PDF I get this:
    When this happens, we are missing signatures or chunks of texts above the signatures, or even whole pages of text. 
    We have never had this issue before and we do edit PDF's all the time.

  • PDF from postscript (ps2pdf) displays "Insufficient data for an image" error in Reader

    Hello,
    I'm not fully confident this is the best place for this, but I'll start here. Note that this is NOT the same as the issue that was recently fixed in Reader 11 (found at http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/insufficient-data-image.html)
    I am using the command "ps2pdf" (using Ghostscript) to convert postscript files to PDF. To get better quality, I use the ps2pdf options "-dAutoFilterColorImages=false -dColorImageFilter=/FlateEncode", which force lossless encoding for color images. However, there are images on certain pages that yield the error "Insufficient data for an image" when opened in Adobe Reader XI (current version), and the image on that page is not viewable (or rather, it can be viewed, but only until you get the whole image on the screen; then the image disappears). If the PDF is printed, the image will not print. The error also occurs in Acrobat 9.4.0, and possibly other versions. However, Reader 8 displays the files with no issues. Also, Foxit reader displays the PDF files fine.
    The postscript files are screenshots generated by the user dragging a box to define the area of the screen to be printed to file. This issue only occurs for some size boxes that the user draws; others come out fine and are read by Reader just fine.
    This only happens when using FlateEncode; using lossy JPEG compression (e.g. the default ps2pdf output) does not yield files that produce the error.
    Here are some example files to demonstrate the issue (hey, maybe the issue is not even reproducible for other people! That would be helpful to know if true, so even if you can't help solve the problem, if you could verify whether this issue occurs when you open one of these files in Reader or Acrobat, it would awesome).

    Additional possibly relevant information:
    ps2pdf is being run using Ghostscript 8.15 on Unix Solaris 10. I also ran the same postscript files through ps2pdf (again using Ghostscript 8.15) on a Windows 7 machine, and the resulting PDFs did not exhibit the same errors when opened in Reader or Acrobat.
    Adobe Reader 8 and 11, and Foxit were run on Windows 7. Acrobat 9.4.0 was run through a Citrix server, and I'm not sure what version of Windows it runs on.
    I tried lots of different options in ps2pdf, and also tried running the postscript through ghostscript directly (using the "gs" command). Nothing was able to eliminate the error without resorting to using lossy JPEG compression.
    I am now using lossy (but fairly high quality) JPEG compression in the workflow, accepting the loss in quality and (paradoxically) doubled filesize of the JPEG-compressed PDF files, so I'm really just pursuing this to figure out what the heck is going on, not because it is mission critical.

    The .ps files are very similar to each other, differing only in the image content and the image location/translation.
    The postscript files give multiple warnings/errors when opened in gsview (this happens with all .ps files created by Pinnacle, not just the ones giving me issues).
    The program that is used to create the postscript files is Philips (Adac) Pinnacle^3, a treatment planning system for radiation oncology.

    Hi, thanks for getting back to me so quickly.  Our application uses scanned images up to 10 years old, and there are thousands of images so we cannot rescan these unfortunately.   
    I work in a large organisation with it's own desktop team so unfortunately I can't upgrade the version of Reader on our user's machines to see if this resolves either.  The desktop team will also not upgrade the version as the problem appears to have only started in 9.5.2. 
    Does anyone know how I can confirm if the problem was first seen in 9.5.2 or if there were instances in 9.5.1 also?

  • Adobe Standard 9.5.2 after update I get "Insufficient data for an image" error

    After updating to Acrobat Standard and Readre 9.5.2, some (but not all) of my pdf files are now opening with the error "Insufficient data for an image." The files open, but they are fuzzy, pixelated and are missing the bates stamp I applied earlier (using a utility from LexisNexis Casemap). I can open the files fine on another computer with Acrobat Standard 9.5.1.
    How can I uninstall the 9.5.2, or get it to work again?

    Windows 7 64-bit with Samsung SSD on an i5 Lenovo laptop. Yes, I have both Acrobat Standard and Reader 9.5.2 on the machine. Both give the same error when opening the attached file.

    Hi osieko,Can you share across any such sample pdf file? Also, what OS are you working upon?You have both Acrobat Standard 9.5.2 and Reader 9.5.2 installed on your machine. Right? One option that you can try is to repair your Acrobat/Reader from Programs in Control Panel and see if that resolves the issue.Otherwise kindly attach a screenshot of the error you are receiving along with any sample pdf file.

  • Reader XI - Insufficient Data for an Image

    Hello,
    I have a few PDFs that I am unable to open. They give me an error saying 'Insufficient Data for an Image'. I have the latest version of Reader. I have tried to save the PDF in different formats. I have tried to reduce the file size and optimize the PDF. None of those worked. However, I am able to view the PDF using a web browser such as Google Chrome. This is not a solution, though, because I have users who need to be able to view the file inside of the Adobe Reader program.
    I can provide the PDF to an Adobe employee if that helps. I'd rather not post it publicly because the PDF(s) in question is a company invoice.

    EDIT: I've come to notice that many others have posted this issue with absolutely zero reply from anybody. I would prefer to use live chat considering this is what I feared when being directed only to a forum for support on this. I would appreciate ANY help or assistance with this issue.

    Unfortunately I cannot provide a sample file as I cannot distribute the information contained in the problem files.
    I've tried to replicate the issue printing pages I could distribute to .PDF, but so far I've only found the problem in the context of a web service that generates summaries of project information.  Again, while I cannot provide I sample I can say that these are not complicated or heavily formatted tables, and have also displayed fine in the past.
    Until the most recent Adobe update I never had any trouble viewing the .PDF files that Chrome generated of these tables.
    Chrome has silent updates, so Chrome may have introduced the problem.  I have no way of knowing what's going on with the backend of the web service that generates the tables so a change there may have introduced the problem.
    Adobe Reader will still read my previously generated .PDF tables, so that suggests that the problem may have been introduced during the creation of the .PDFs.  That said, the files remain valid .PDFs readable without difficulty by other software (ie. OS X Preview).
    Based on my anecdotal Google trouble-shooting I'd submit that it appears that recent versions of Adobe Reader have suffered from some issue that creates failures to display the content of certain, otherwise readable .PDF files.  While the scale of the problem may not be great, for those impacted it appears to call for the adoption of alternative .PDF viewing software.
