Insufficient Device Memory to Update to 10.2.1

I went to install the new update (10.2.1.537) onto my Q5 through my phone, received the notification telling me device storage was almost full and the install failed.
I then cleared out my device memory, moving everything I had access to onto media card or simply deleting it.
When I go to install the update now before it begins it asks me to free up around 1.1-1.4GB (the exact value varies between attempts) of space on device memory even though I already have 1.5GB free and it says the size is 1008MB.
I have very few apps installed and most aren't very big (all below 50MB if you exclude BlackBerry Runtime for Android.) I also tried deleting email accounts and message history in Whatsapp but they made very little difference.
Of the 8GB total space 6.3GB is taken up by "Other data" and looking in file manager seemed to show 3GB of this was from the Device/misc/android folder in the form of hidden files. (Not within any of the folders inside the android folder.) All other device folders are completely empty as far as I can see.
Any advice of how to make up the space so I can upgrade would be really appreciated as I'm at a bit of a loss now.
Thanks!

Hi, sorry it took a while to reply but this was a bit of a lengthy process. Worked like a charm though, thank you ever so much!

  • Insufficient Memory to Update Apps?  No.

While attempting to Update a few Apps last night, I kept getting a message saying "Insufficient Memory to Update Apps," and something like "adjust memory usage settings."
But when I went to Settings> Memory, it was clear that I was using less than 1 MB of memory for all my Apps, with a total of 5MB available on both the iPad itself and also in iCloud.
       So what gives?  Thoughts?

Your phone's internal storage it too low.
Goto: settings.app -> General -> Usage; in order to see available storage capacity.
From this screen, you can see how much storage space each application is using, and can remove them, from here, or from your home screen.
You can also try updating one at a time from the App Store.
Also note, a 500MB app, will require upto 1,000-1,500MB available space to update.  The current app remains, then a compressed archive is downloaded, and then it must be extracted.  So there must be space on the device for the original app, the compressed archive, and the uncompressed archive all at once for the update process to be successful.  Once the update is successful, the extra data is deleted.

  • Mysterious 'android' folder in device memory that cant be deleted

hi... i have a bb q5 and been using it since 2-3 months now... there is an 'android' folder that appears in the 'misc' folder of the device memory. i cant get rid of this from the bb file explorer as well as from the laptop. when i try to del it, it say permission denied. i guess it started when one of my friends used my sd card in their android based phones. this folder contains all those folders that are there in the device memory like photos, camera, music etc. and some other folders like dcim, notifications. sometimes it shows 11 items inside and sometimes 12 or 13. i dont know if it's a bug or something but it seems quite irritating as it contains nothing space wise. i cant del it from my laptop bcos when i press del, nothing really happens and its still there... so pls can anyone help get rid of this...

It's my understanding that folder is there for access by the Android runtime software.
    Leave it.

  • MSSQL 2008 R2 - 32bit, TSQL backup with compression, error: There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query

    Hello,
I would like to ask you about advice.
We have MSSQL 2008 R2, 32 bit. Memory is 4GB, split into 2GB for Windows and 2GB for applications. Database has recovery model simple because we have replicated data into other servers ( 2 ). Contemporary we work with 2 servers. Max memory for MSSQL is 2048
    MB.
We set the backup as follows:
    USE MSDB
    GO
    DECLARE @JMENO_ZALOHY VARCHAR(120)
    SELECT  @JMENO_ZALOHY = 'E:\backup\BackupSQL\1 Pondeli\DAVOSAM_'+ convert( varchar(2), datepart( hh, getdate() ) ) + '00_DEN_DIFF.bak'
    SELECT  @JMENO_ZALOHY
    BACKUP DATABASE [DAVOSAM]
    TO DISK = @JMENO_ZALOHY
    WITH INIT, DIFFERENTIAL, CHECKSUM, COMPRESSION
    GO
Every second or third day in log there is error message: 'There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query' Accurate in time of backup. The error is still repeat, majority in working hours.
Today I have found out, that problem is probably in compression of backup. Because if I removed word: compression, a backup normally runs without error.
Question: Is my hypothesis correct that problem is in backup with compression?
    Thank you David

Hello, today evening I have ran backup command bellow. All is OK. Probably MSSQL has cleaned memory. Next attempt I will try in peak next week.
Since time I have removed word compression, in error log is not any error.
I have checked memory as soon as memory gets on top, it is about 1.707 GB the MSSQL writes into log this messgages:

  • SQL2012 Express Error: "insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query"

I am running the SQL2012 express (version shown below) and get the following error after a day or two of operation. This is a new server 2012 installation.
source: SQL2012Express  "There is insufficient system memory in resource pool 'internal' to run this query."
The installed version of SQL2012 express is:
    Microsoft SQL Server 2012 (SP1) - 11.0.3128.0 (X64)   Dec 28 2012 20:23:12  Copyright (c) Microsoft Corporation
    Express Edition (64-bit) on Windows NT 6.2 <X64> (Build 9200: ) (Hypervisor)
I read a few of the postings but couldn't determine the exact hot fix or update to run or if I am running the latest already.
Which .exe file should I run for the update? I downloaded a file called 473913_intl_x64_zip.exe but it said it wasn't tested yet?
Can I uninstall this path or hot fix if it breaks something?
What can I do to correct this internal memory error and prevent from happening.
    Thanks
    Morris
    Thank you Morris

    Hi MoCoder,
According to your description, the error may be occurred by the following possible reasons, for example,
the ram was be completely used, reached the maximum memory allocation configured values in SQL Server or virtual memory is full and so on. Before you install the related cumulative update of SQL Server 2012, I recommend you do the following
steps for fixing this error. For example, allocate more memory to SQL Server, kill the unnecessary idle sessions, increase the RAM and virtual memory and reduce the number of users and so on.

  • Clear Device Memory

I have a Tour 9630, running OS v5.0.0.484 on a US Cellular network. I'm receiving a "device memory full" prompt but I have deleted all but two apps totaling 3mb, there are no pictures and only the required applications still installed on the phone. Why does the 252.5mb of application storage continue to read as full?? - Saltydog
    Solved!

Thanks for coming back with more information...it always helps our ever-growing "knowledge base" that this site is becoming.
I'm not sure exactly what "deleting device data" means in your case -- AppMemory and Device Memory are separate memory areas, so doing something in one would not affect the other. Rather, via AppLoader, you can remove optional components of the OS (e.g., languages) that you don't need, apps that are extraneous, etc. There also are less-destructive levels of WIPE, with ResetToFactory being the most destructive (of the native methods, that is).
You also need to be sure that you are checking your AppMemory right after a fresh batt-pull reboot, before other apps have been able to begin consuming AppMemory for their purposes. After a little time (maybe an hour), you can generally discover a "normal" level for your situation...assuming of course there is nothing with any memory leaks, as those would cause an inability to really properly analyze what's going on with AppMemory.
There is also Safe Mode as a diagnostic...to see how things are when all 3rd party apps are prevented from auto-loading whatever they have.
Further, an even more destructive (and indeed "cleaner") method is to perform a different kind of WIPE (e.g., BBSAK or JLCMDR) and then reload the OS cleanly, but being sure to leave off all of those optional things during the initial reload. This is actually the best way to maximize your AppMemory available storage...sometimes, merely removing (post-install) things (e.g., apps, languages, etc.) does not release quite as much AppMemory as just never installing them at all would provide for.
Further still, there may be updated OS levels that handle memory better (or, yes, worse...always a possibility!) than the current version you are running.
Those are about all the thoughts I've got on the topic...there are of course several official KBs on the matter:
KB02843What is the Low Memory Manager feature on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14320How to maximize free space and battery power on the BlackBerry smartphone
KB14213Call logs, SMS text messages, and email messages are deleted from the BlackBerry smartphone
It is always, of course, important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
    Cheers!

    Sampling Rate=48K
Number of samples sent=48000 or 1sec
I have tried reducing my sample rate to 20000 but that didnot help much. How do i get rid of this error

Welcome and thank you for using the Discussion Forums! This error is most likely due to the non-regeneration property you have set. What's happening is that LabVIEW generates your two sine waves continuously, but slower than the update rate of the DAQ card, so the buffer gets empty before it can write enough samples to the buffer so that the 4461 can keep generating the voltage values on the channel.
What you could do is simply set the Regeneration mode to "Allow Regeneration". I tried the non-regeneration and regeneration property on the "Voltage - Continuous Output.vi" and it works with regeneration enabled.

  • Upgrade to OS 6 took up all space on device memory

I recently upgraded my Curve 9300 from OS 5 to OS 6. The upgrade has taken up over 144 MB of space of the DEVICE memory. leaving barely any space free on the device. can anything be done about it? Shouldnt an upgrade have removed the older s/w? Eitherway, what can I do about it now?
    Thank you

You can downgrade the OS back to OS5 if you prefer.
    1. Delete the newer OS from your PC by going to Control Panel >Add/Remove Programs. (If you never physically installed the OS to your PC, skip to step 2.)
    2. Then download and install the older version of the OS. BlackBerry Operating System Downloads
    3. Install the older OS to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded.
    4. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
    5. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

  • XP PC Does not see Media Card. Device Memory and Media Card are not available.....

I am starting a new thread because the old one was marked as resolved and it isn't.
My Windows XP desktop is no longer seeing my BB Storm Media Card. I am getting the error:
"Device Memory and Media Card are not available because the Mass Storage is currently in use."
    I have followed these directions:
    Options > Memory >
    Media Card Supoport - ON
Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) - ON
Mass Storage Mode Support - ON
Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected - YES
    SAVE
I have application free pace 8.1 MB
    and the error message:
"Device Memory and Media Card are not available because the Mass Storage is currently in use."
The card is there and is seen by my BB Storm. Media > Explore
I have removed and reinstalled the card.
On the desktop I have tried Explore as well as Disk Management and nothing shows up for the Media Card although the Blackberry itself is present.
    Please help.

  • Unable to access device memory

    Hello there,
I'm having trouble trying to access the device memory.
It's half full, but I haven't any files! I've tried a factory reset and a security wipe, but it still says that I've used up half the memory.
When I try and update my phones software, it tells me to "consider deleting or moving files". But there aren't any left to move!
I can't seem to access to device memory to see what these files are, when I check my memory usage it just says that there's 2.07gb of system files.

I have also re-installed the Windows XP. still nothing.
If you have restored the hard drive to its original factory-new condition using the Toshiba recovery discs, then that means you have a hardware malfunction.
You can purchase a card reader that plugs into a USB port.

  • New smartphone - "Device memory is full..."

Today I received my new Curve 8520 and excitedly charged it and activated it. I was disappointed to discover that when I went to test the camera out, before I even took a picture, an error/warning popped up: "Device memory is full. Please save pictures to media card."
    WHY???
I have never used the phone nor put anything on the memory. In Settings/Options it says that memory available is more than 100mb. Does anyone know how to fix this? Why would this be the case on a brand new phone?
Thank you very much for your help.

Don't know why it said that.
But it is recommended that you save pictures to a Media Card, altough it is not required.
Open your camera > press the Menu key > options > scroll to the bottom and see what your save to options are set to?

Restart: Press and hold the upper edge power button a couple seconds and the tap the lower right RESTART.
    or,
Reboot: On the side edge volume keys, press and hold down both of the Up and Down volume keys for about 20 seconds, ignoring the initial screenshot message... the screen will go black and reboot.

  • Z10 device memory usage oddity

We own two z10 on att. Network. Both set up just about identical except wife's also has Facebook and Twitter. My "other" device memory usage holds constant at about 5.5 gb. About 3 weeks ago noticed her "other" device memory usage was 12 gb. Did everything I knew to clear up space on hers but didn't accomplish much. Using blackberry link I did a full backup and then a restore. That brought her "other" back down to about 5.5 gb. Now, last week hers had crept up to 6.6gb used and this week is at 7.4 gb used.
Something doesn't seem right comparing our two z10's. Other than she does more texting than me and uses Facebook and Twitter I can't account for anything eating up her device memory
Os is 10.1.0.2074. Software is 10.1.0.2019
    Any help would be appreciated!

MaxMem was a tool that could "free up space" in OS's 4.2 to 6.0.  It hasn't been updated since sometime in 2008.  There is no BB10 version.

    Hello,
Given what you describe and the remedy you have already attempted, your BB likely has a hardware-level problem that cannot be addressed at this internet distance. Only hands-on by a qualified BB technician can possibly determine what to now do. If your BB is brand new, you should go back to the seller and enforce the terms of your warranty.
    Good luck!

  • Insufficient extended memory?

I am trying to flash my bios - windows me startdisk but when i start the command from the virtual Ram drive it says insufficient extended memory. Should I expand the "extended memory" in some way and what to do to flash my bios
PS i read the forum topics already and also sent a message to tiresmoke but no help so far

I do noyt give private help as that does not help others.
It sounds like you have the Config.sys file fouled up in a DOS startup disl. Or you are trying to flash using a DOS program in Windows.
Personally my suggest is always to have Live Update create a Bios Flash Diskette. Not to have Live update to flash it for you though. Then use the diskette that was created to boot from. This way you get a disk that will work and that sets up a RAMdisk that you actually flash from.
