Insufficient Disc Space

I have a text alert appearing when I try and add photos to the library.
The disk containing your iphoto library is running low on space are you sure you want to continue?
I have 800 gb free space on my hard disc and circa 10K photo in Iphoto.
I press yes.
I get a message error writing to disc "iPhoto cannot import your photos because there was a problem writing to the volume containing your iPhoto library."
If I have disc space and iphoto can handle 250K photos what is the problem?
Does Iphoto have an allocation of disc space?
If so how do I expand it?
Regards
John

This seems to be a bogus message and likely indicates an issue with the iPhoto Library.
Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
If that fails:
Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Insufficient Disc Space for Burning

My setup: Premiere Elements 12 running on an Apple iMac running OSx Yosemite. Samsung external blu-ray writer.
I have a recording of a play from my local amateur dramatic society. I have successfully burnt to a DVD-RW complete with menus and photograph gallery. When I insert a DVD-R it tells me there is insufficient disc space. The project is 4.38 Gb and Disc Utility tells me that the DVD has 4.7 Gb free. My hard disc has 826.96 Gb free. I have successfully written to other discs from this spindle in the past. I've tried two discs with the same result.
I tried burning to a folder then burning a disc using Toast, but the disc auto-played instead of displaying the menu (despite auto-play being unticked).
    Advice would be welcome.

Thanks for the reply and additional information.
Please consider disc capacity, file size, and bitrate....
If your Premiere Elements burn dialog Quality area was showing 4.38 GB with "Fit Content to Available Space" enabled, what was it showing for Bitrate.
Unless the program had to lower the bitrate to 1.69 Mbps or where it could not lower the bitrate any further to make the fit, you should have been able to get a burn to disc in Premiere Elements. The quality would have been worse case at the extremely lowered bitrate, but a burn to nonetheless.
If you want to pursue this, we could compare the Space Required and Bitrate with and without "Fit Content to Available Space" to get at
what triggered the Insufficient Disc Space message. We could also look at the Scratch Disk "Disc Encoding" to find to where it is
directed and how much free space is at that location.
If you have the time and want to follow up on this, please let us know.
    Thank you.

  • Garageband 10.0.2 There is Insufficient disc space to install the basic content

After I updated garageband to Mavericks It wont let me open it because of "Insufficient disc space." Really, I have 8 Gigabytes available on my macbook air and I know garageband wont take 8 gigabytes to install basic content. Please help.

    That's good.
In the long run you'll have to find a solution to relocate media files to a small, portable external drive. Your mac will be slow and unresponsive, when the disk space gets low. You'll notice it when recording or playing your songs.

  • Recently backing up my ipad onto my macbook, which is the backup server for all of my gadgets.  This includes all my photos and tons of music.  The macbook said it could not backup the ipad because there was insufficient disc space to do so. What now?

I have a macbook operating OSX10.6.7.  Recently backing up my ipad which had lots of photos from a recent vacation.  I use this laptop as the backup server for all of my gadgets so it has thousands of photos and tons of music.  It just told me that it couldn't back up the ipad bc there wasn't enough disc space.  I was afraid that this would happen eventually.  What next?  Newer laptop with more space?  I'm not sure what files I could sacrifice to free up more space as most of these are important.

What size hard drive do you have in your MacBook? The cheapest options are, a larger internal hard drive, or an external drive. Or you could get a cheap desktop PC and network to it for storage. I've got one that lives in the hall with 3 Terabytes (That's 3000gb) of storage.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - blu-ray insufficient disc space for burning

    Hi
I have just upgraded to PE 9 with the hope that it would have less problems than 7 - it appears I am wrong
Having got over the "chapter overflow" problem I am now faced with a new one that i cannot find a thread for.
I have a video that is 2 hours 45 min long.
I want to burn it to blu-ray.
I select "fit contents to available space" the program reduces the size to 23.3Gb BUT does not remove the warning so i cannot do the burn.
I have successfully burnt 2 Blu-ray discs where the content did not need to be made smaller.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Michael

The file is to big for the disc, but that is why the fit content to available space tick box is there.
It does show that the size will be reduced and what the new reduced bit rate will be.
The problem is that the error message does not remove it's self so the burn button does not activate.

  • IPhoto -"insufficient disc space"

    Hi@ all,
i just wanted to burn a DVD in my Iphoto programm. The DVD symbol was still green so there must have been enough space on the disc but when i tried to click "burn" a message showed up "insufficent disk space"...How's THAT possible??
I downloaded the latest OS Lion on my mac so maybe thats the reason why it doesn't work because with OS Leopard everything worked fine....
Would be great if somebody can help me with some advices...

    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Insufficient disc space error message when there's 100's of gigs available

APERTURE MESSAGE READS: There is not enough free space on your Aperture Library volume to import the selected itmes. It is estimated that you need at least an additional 7036MB of space.
My LaCie Raid reads that it has 858gigs avail and that is the volume where the aplibrary is stored.
Why do I get this message? Is there a in the aperture prefs where a limit has been set? How do I fix this?
    Thanks in advance,
    Gary

    Hiya,
I have just started to get this message too. I have 200GB free on a 1TB Lacie Hard Drive that is only used for Time Machine and also as my primary Aperture Vault.
Formatted in Mac OS Extended Journaled.
I only need to have a few gig free in order to create the new back up...
It has worked fine for months until a couple of days ago.
    Any answers anybody?
    Cheers Geoff

  • IPhoto11 - insufficient disc space bug

I install iPhoto11 from "15-inch macbook pro aplication install dvd". Update app via "software updates" And at the first and second (and third) start iPhoto told me that "iPhoto can not import your photos because there is not enough spase on the volume containing your iPhoto library". "About this mac" told me that I have lots of free space on the HDD. How can I fix this problem ?

    Should be enough
Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.

  • I am getting Insufficent disc space for burning icon

I HAVE LOTS OF STORAGE SPACE ON COMUTER ABOUT 200 FREE GB
BUT ITS IS TELLING ME INSUFFICIENT DISC SPACE AVAILABLE FOR BURNING...WHY?

    Charles King
I was looking for your reply in your other thread that I just answered.
how to make video go backwards
But, I just saw this new thread.
Insufficient Disc Space Available For Burning.....
That message typically points to not enough space for the burn to temporary encoding files.
When you go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Discs, what is
    a. the path shown to the place where these encoding files are going to be stored
    and
    b. to the right of the path information there should be an estimate of the free hard drive space at that location - what is it?
In the burn dialog Quality area, what does it show for Space Required and Bitrate.
Do you have any other place on the computer that has more than 200 GB? We may have to change the save location
for the Encoded Files to be generated or free up more space at the location to where those encoding files are currently directed.
Let us see where the details lead us.
All of the above information should lead us to answer for the why.
    Thanks.

  • Audio only capture causes "out of disc space" error

When I cature video, no problem. When I capture video and audio, no problem. When I try and capture audio only, it says "insufficient disc space".
I have 96 gigs on my 320 gig external hard drive, and 14gigs left on my 75 gig internal.
    Any Ideas?

Check these things before you do anything with your system:
*How is the drive formatted?* If it's FAT32, that's the problem and you will have to reformat the drive as Mac OS Extended to use it with Final Cut Express. But make sure you *back up your files first*, because reformatting erases the entire disk.
*How is the drive connected* - Firewire or USB? If Firewire, are there any other Firewire devices connected, especially a camera. If so, disconnect the camera.
What is the exact make & model of your external hard drive?
Are you using this external hard drive as a *Time Machine backup drive?* If so, you should *turn off* Time Machine before you export to this drive. Actually, you should not use a TM backup drive at all for video projects.

  • We could not complete your purchase (disc space error)

I got this message for a re-download of a game: There is not enough disk space available to install the product.
The size of the game (Bioshock Infinitive) is 40GB, but the point is I have 93GB free disc space.
What can I do to solve this error?
    Thank you in advance.
PS: English isn't my mother tongue, hope I didn't make to many misspellings. ;-)

First, the App Store will not allow a download that, when expanded, would leave less than the minimum amount of available space on the startup volume that Apple considers necessary, which is about 9 GB. The download is a compressed archive that will usually expand to about twice its size. Both the archive and the expanded files will be present at the same time, so the actual amount of space needed is about three times the size of the archive.
If you're trying to add a large amount of data all at once, and you get an alert of insufficient space, then from the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Time Machine
If the padlock icon is closed, click it to unlock the settings and authenticate. Turn Time Machine OFF, then back ON and close the preference pane. Restart the computer. Test.

    Hi The Lad,
If you have "INSUFFICIENT" disk space, then you can try and change the install location while performing the installation of the desired product. I am not sure when the error message would pop up saying that the disk space is "INEFFICIENT". Could you please share a screen shot of the error message along with the system information.
    Cheers,

Im trying to import a large amount of pictures to Iphoto. I have pleanty of space on my HD. But half way thru the transfer an error message comes up and says not enough disc space. How can I fix this?

    I. I want to import 58.64 GB of Photos from an external HD
    2. I have 278.28 GB space left on my HD
    3. The exact error message goes like this......
    Insufficient Disk Space
iPhoto cannot import your photos because
there is not enough free space on the
    volume containing your iPhoto library
I Have researched this and most advice is to empty the iPhoto trash. I have already done this and it did not help.
    Thank you for helping
