Insufficient disk space for encoding. disk space on encoding target drive?

I keep having this message when I try to burn\enconde\build a DVD with DVDSP 4, I'm setting the Build folder in a external hard drive with 300Gigas free, so for sure is not the porblem...
Insufficient disk space for encoding. Please free up disk space on your encoding target drive
What should I do?? its kind of urgent!
Cheers,
Javier

Ah Ha!
I found this in a 2-pop forum - it may be the solution...
"Are you both using the DVDSP Background encoder? If so, make sure the *DESTINATIONS PREFERENCE for ENCODING is pointing to the disk drive that actually HAS the free space* - normally, it points to the SAME FOLDER where the asset is living. If you're short on space on that drive, that will trigger the condition you describe... - always maintain this free space "

  • There is no more space for virtual disk ServerName_2.vmdk. You might be able to continue this session by freeing disk space on the relevant volume, and clicking Retry. Click Cancel to terminate this session.   Time: 30/05/2014 1:16:20 AM

    Recently, our mail server crashed at about 7pm one night, with the error 'There is no more space for virtual disk ServerName_2.vmdk. You might be able to continue this session by freeing disk space on the relevant volume, and clicking Retry. Click Cancel to terminate this session.'
    When we click Retry, the server starts up OK.
    There are no snapshots listed in Snapshot manager for any of the virtual machines on the host.
    There is also free disk space available on the host and for the VM with the disk errors.
    This happened at least three more times, often at bad times. Each time, we were able to click 'Retry' and the disk/system would allow the VM to start-up successfully.
    I checked the Forums, the VMware support articles and the internet as I had not seen this problem before. I have completed the VSphere 5.1 - Fast Track course and this issue was NOT covered in the training.
    Most of the advice on-line and even that on the VMware web-site was pointing to snapshots being the cause of this issue. There are no snapshots enabled and I cannot see evidence of snapshots ever being used.
    - We are running VMware vsphere (5.1.0) and there are (were) 4 virtual machines running on the ESX host. We are using the free version of VMware/ESXi.
    - The Hard disk types we are using for this Virtual Machine are 'Thin Provisioned'.
    - There are 4 [Thin Provisioned] Hard Disks for this virtual machine.
    - There are 6 CPUs
    - There is 20GB of RAM (memory)
    - The VM is running Windows Server 2008 R2 as the guest/VM operating system. It is an Exchange 2010 SP1 mail server. There is plenty of available disk space on all the drives. The [Exchange] log files are cleaned out regularly (automated).
    I decided to move one of our non-critical servers off this host and on to another host to see if this helped the problem. This took quite some time, as we are not using HA or vmotion, nor do we have VCenter Server...nonetheless, I finally managed to get the non-critical server on to another host (n.b. This was a much smaller machine with less virtual resources assigned to it).
    After moving the non-critical server off this host, we decided to monitor the Host and see if the issue resolved itself.
    I checked the host about 6-10 times a day, from first thing in the morning till last thing at night - monitoring the performance of not only the Virtual Machine, but the ESXi host also.
    There were no adverse performance issues. The only thing I did note, was in the Summary page on the ESX Host, under Storage, was If I right-clicked on the datastore and clicked refresh, then the free disk space would drop (ie from 140GB to 125GB).
    After monitoring the host and VM for about 2 weeks, we did NOT have another instance of the above error.
    Sorry for the long winded post, but I wanted to give as much detail given this error has been raised before and snapshots are usually blamed as the cause.
    My question is this:
    If the ESX host had plenty of available disk capacity and there were no snapshots enabled on the VM (or any other VM's on the same host), then why did our Virtual machine crash with the error that 'there is not more space for virtual disk Servername_2.vmdk'?
    How do we prevent this issue from happening if we don't know the underlying cause?
    I would greatly appreciate any advice or suggestions.
    If I have not provided enough info on the specs or environment, please let me know and I will provide more information.
    Thanks all,
    Kurt

    The type of storage is really based on your requirements, and your ability to withstand downtime.
    iSCSI as you are using with a NAS such as Synology or QNAP.  NAS Selector - Support - Synology - Network Attached Storage (NAS)
    I wouldn't use iSCSI for Exchange or any database.  It's a bit slow.
    Do you have a single physical host?  Then I'd probably to an external direct attached storage.  This would be a card inserted in your host server that gives you multilane SAS/SATA connectivity (www.techcable.com/SAS-SATA/SAS-SATA.pps) and an external disk enclosure/array.
    For multiple hosts to a single array, I recommend a fibre channel connection to a FC capable switch, and on to a FC connected array.
    We used to use a HP P2000 (on old G1), but it's since been retired.  Worked pretty well once firmware was upgraded.  http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/disk-storage/product-detail.html?oid=4118559#!tab=features.  They can be connected via iSCSI, Fibre Channel or 6GB SAS so they are flexible and reasonably priced.
    Recommendations:
         Use RAID 6 with your large disk arrays.  With large disks there is a measurable failure rate when rebuilding a failed RAID5 array based on MTBF.
         Use smaller 15K disks in RAID 0+1 for speed on databases/Exchange.
         Use slower 7.2K disks in RAID6 for file storage.
    We are a small hospital and we have 3 VMware servers with dual CNA (FC and Ethernet in a single twinax cable) connections to 2 redundant Cisco Nexus 5K switches and then 4 Fibre Channel connections to an EMC VNX 5300.  It's extremely fast with about 50 virtual servers, but was quite an investment.  One thing we don't have to worry about is down time.  If there ever is an equipment failure, we have redundant everything, including power split between two UPSs.
    Our VNX has 3 tiers of performance.  3 100GB SSD "Fast Cache" in RAID 1 with hot spare, to keep the most used data ready, but it's not really a tier, however one could be built utilizing the same disks.  A second tier is performance tier with a 8 600GB RAID 0+1 and hot spare.  The third is a bunch of 7.2K 3TB disks in RAID6.  The VNX autotiers, placing data on disks depending on where it's needed.  The volumes are sliced and diced automatically in the background to make this happen and we never have to touch it.  I used a demo of Solarwinds Storage Manager to monitor performance for a while and the utilization was always low, meaning all data access was fast, througout the day.

  • Photoshop Elements needs repair.  After repair it asks for disk 1.  I only have one disk and the case I got the program in has space for one disk.  What should I do?

    I must have gotten a corrupted sector on my disk drive I place my Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 CD in the drive and it asked to install or repair or uninstall.  I clicked repair and after a minute it asked for disk 1.  I could not find a disk one and my case only has space for one disk.  What should I do?
    Jim Hamilton.

    PSE6 is a very old program (more than 6 years old) so what exactly are you trying to do?  Have you got PSE6 already on your machine?  If so, to uninstall it, all you need to do is to go to the Windows Control Panel and uninstall it under Add/Remove programs icon.
    If you are trying to install it again on top of what is already installed then the best way is to uninstall it from the machine before installing again after rebooting.  Also, if the disk happens to be damaged then try copying the contents from the disk to a temporary folder on your machine and then try installing from that temporary folder by clicking on the setup.exe file.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to get available disk space for a disk in the system ?

    hi all,
    I need to figure out the available disk space for a particular disk before I can write my file to a directory in the disk. I do this to avoid unsufficient disk space problem in my program. May I know how can I do this in Java ? I look at the API function for java.io.File class but there isn't any function to check disk space. I would appreciate any help from fellow Java developers. Thanks a million.
    regards,
    tuck meng

    You cannot do this in purely platform independent way.
    You can use System.exec to run native OS utilities like df and parse the output, but then you have to knwo which platform your program is running on, or build in some automatic detection of OS and have corresponding native calls for each likely one.
    BTW. even if you get a number of free bytes on disk that's larger than the size of the file you want to write this is no guarantee that there will be enough diskspace for your file, because another process might write to the disk in the meantime. So you will have to do proper error handling and recover gracefully from the disk full sitution no matter what.

  • Windows wont start, Recovery Disk asking for another disk, only can with 2

    My son was surfing the web when IE stopped responding.  Window would not close so he held the power button until the laptop shut off.  When he tried to start laptop again, could only get as far as the windows loading bar, but it would not load.  After unsuccessfully trying a StartUp Repair we used the Recovery & Application Disk, holding down the C. After it appeared to run succesfully we got a boot manager missing error.  So we tried the Recovery Disk again.  Now it just continues to ask for additional disk but the Recovery Disk set is only two disk set.  This is a L305-s5875 Satellite that we have had for about 11 months.  If anyone has any suggestions we would greatly appreciate it.

    Try cleaning disk with alcohol,with soft tissue paper.That is what i did to get disk to work.
    Also try and hit start and F12 and then change boot menue to Cd/Dvd insted of hardrive
    and then hold down c or try without holding down ckey.As a last try start cimputer and hold
    gown the statr buton and 0 (ie zero)  together for 1 min and see what happens.

  • Free space for startup disk

    How much free space is recommended for the startup disk? I have a lot of movies and TV shows, I have them on ICloud.
    Thx, Macmanuserid

    If it's a boot hard drive and your interested in maintaining the computers maximum read/write performance, no more than the first 50% of the drive filled.
    Meaning no files or anything on the second 50% of the boot hard drive, this can be done by creating a second partition in Disk Uitlity, provided there is ample room. If there isn't, then there is something there already and you have to reduce items so only 50% of the boot hard drive is filled, then do a defrag via my method here to shift the data up to the first 50% of the boot hard drive.
    BootCamp: "This disc can not be partitioned/impossible to move files."
    How to safely defrag a Mac's hard drive
    You can still get decent performance from a boot hard drive until it's about 80% filled, however in later OS X versions there are a lot of large hidden caches like versions, timemachine local backups (laptops) and such that will unfortunatly push your newly created or transferred files to the more slower parts of the boot hard drive.
    If you have a boot SSD then don't let it get more than 80% filled.
    However other things can make a computer slow,
    Why is my computer slow?

  • Help in getting making space for startup disk.

    When I open up a user file on my Mac mini, nothing comes up except a background and the mouse arrow. I need to make more space on my startup disk by deleting files. I can't do that because the users won't open up properly.

    Hi,
    You can create Perfmon data collectors with proper perfmon counters related to CPU. Memory and Disk utilization. The data collector can be configured to store the data in SQL Server. This stored perfmon data can be queried from reporting service reports
    to get a graphical representation. These reports can be subscribed so that the graphical reports can get mailed automatically at a specific time.

  • Disk Utility: For one Disk it isn't possible to change anything

    Good Morning everybody
    First I think my Spec's are important:
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid 2012)
    2.9 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Two Disks: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250 GB (normal Startup Disk)
    Toshiba HDD 750 GB
    Intel Hd Graphics 4000 1024 MB
    OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.1
    And now to the thing I did that the Problem appeared:
    After a very long discussion with the Apple Support Help Hotline I decided that, after a Backup, I wil do this: OS X Mountain Lion: Erase and reinstall OS X to try something out, and then will restore my backup.
    It all went perfect till the thing with restoring my backup. In the Menu I get when I press (CMD + R) I tried to restore the backup. But then, in the middle of the process, the system cancelled the process automatically and shut down. So I started the Mac again, it automatically came into this CMD + R menu. So I went into the Disk Utility to watch what happened. Since then my two Disks are shown the same way (picture): It is not possible to change anything, except running the First Aid thing. Luckily it was possible to install the OS X and my Backup on the HDD, but for me this is only a temporarily version because the SSD is at the moment completely blocked.
    Goal:
    It would be great when I can add/remove/change partitions on both Hard Disks and when, at the end, it would be possible to install my Backup to the SSD and use the HDD as a "external Storage" again.
    Thanks for all your responses & you can ask me everything if you need more information.
    David

  • Apple support sent only disk 2 for boot disk...  it took only five months

    I travel quite a bit and my hard drive crapped out on me. I replaced it and unfortunately my original start up disks are in storage in the USA. I was in Italy, working, at the time.
    Called apple (spot) in Italy (I think) and found out about Apples export issues with operating across borders. Basically if you have a USA Computer then you have to get USA Support. (And visa versa if living where-ever. So I contacted Apple support USA (International cell rates)and had them send the disks to my forwarding address, which went to my parents, which they sent to my next destination Poland. Which the guy said he understood my situation and will do it for free... cool! after a month my parents still haven't received anything. I recalled Apple support (International cell rates) and they don't know anything about the last call. They will resend the disks for a fee. (whatever!) So another month... my parents get the package and forward it on to Poland. a month and a half later... (Its was the holidays). I (today) received only disk 2 of the two disk install package.
    Does anyone know.... please! if somehow I can boot off this disk?... probably not.

    Thanks,
    Having the backup software on the IPod is very smart!!!
    I just got off the phone w/ apple care. (I get the same feeling calling them as I did when I went to the dentist as a kid!)
    They are sending out the Disk 1 of the install. But it has to be the same route, nobody overseas can help and they can't sends software over the boarder. So I'll be getting it in about two months... Great!
    Funny thing is that I had to argue w/ the first guy because my apple care expired and he wanted me to pay $40 just to talk to him. Then ended up being disconnected after being transfered to the international department... So I had to call back... (International cell rates apply)
    So yea... Backup on Ipod and always carry the disks w/ you when traveling.

  • Best way to make disk images for game disks?

    I want to play my beloved Battlefield 1942 on my Air... and I realized that I need the disk! ...Is there a way to turn the game disk into an image and "launch" it so the program thinks it's in the diskdrive, etc?

    <font "size=+1">Duplicate a CD or DVD
    1. Insert the DVD/CD;
    2. Open Disk Utility, and select the DVD/CD from the left side list (select the DVD/CD icon on top);
    3. from the DU File menu select New | Disk Image from Disk 1;
    4. Choose to format the disk image as DVD/CD Master, name the disk image and click Save;
    5. When the .cdr file is finished select it with mouse and press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info and check the box to lock the file;
    6. Choose the .cdr file from the left side list, click Burn, and insert a new, blank DVD or CD.
    You can skip the last step if you don't want to burn the image to a CD or DVD. There is no guarantee this will work since many games will only work with a CD or DVD rather than a mounted image of one.

  • Creating DAS or SAN Disk Partitions for ASM

    Oracle® Database Installation Guide 11g Release 2 (11.2) for Linux (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e24321/oraclerestart.htm#CHDBJGEB)
    *3.6.3 Step 2:* Creating DAS or SAN Disk Partitions for Oracle Automatic Storage Management
    In order to use a DAS or SAN disk in Oracle ASM, the disk must have a partition table. Oracle recommends creating exactly one partition for each disk.
    My question: why does Oracle recommend creating exactly one partition for each disk? For a disk to be used on Suse Linux, I normally need to at the least 3 partitions, i.e., boot, swap, and root.
    Scott

    Please read the entire manual - before starting setup and configuration.
    From the very same manual:
    Do not specify multiple partitions on a single physical disk as a disk group device.
    Oracle ASM expects each disk group device to be on a separate physical disk.So why use partitioning? If you need to subdivide a LUN into smaller LUNs and use these instead of the larger LUN. Reasons could range from LUNs bigger than 2TB in size (ASM only support up to 2TB size LUNs), to wanting partition 1's of x size for ASM diskgroup 1 and partition 2's of y size for ASM diskgroup 2.
    If you do partition, take the extra precaution of marking the partition as a non-file system (partition type <i>da</i>) to safeguard against someone (like a sysadmin looking for space) from mounting it as a file system.
    Generally though - I would not partition LUNs for ASM use.

  • I am getting Insufficent disc space for burning icon

    I HAVE LOTS OF STORAGE SPACE ON COMUTER ABOUT 200 FREE GB
    BUT ITS IS TELLING ME INSUFFICIENT DISC SPACE AVAILABLE FOR BURNING...WHY?

    Charles King
    I was looking for your reply in your other thread that I just answered.
    how to make video go backwards
    But, I just saw this new thread.
    Insufficient Disc Space Available For Burning.....
    That message typically points to not enough space for the burn to temporary encoding files.
    When you go to Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Discs, what is
    a. the path shown to the place where these encoding files are going to be stored
    and
    b. to the right of the path information there should be an estimate of the free hard drive space at that location - what is it?
    In the burn dialog Quality area, what does it show for Space Required and Bitrate.
    Do you have any other place on the computer that has more than 200 GB? We may have to change the save location
    for the Encoded Files to be generated or free up more space at the location to where those encoding files are currently directed.
    Let us see where the details lead us.
    All of the above information should lead us to answer for the why.
    Thanks.

  • How many disk groups for +DATA?

    Hi All,
    Does oracle recommends having one big/shared asm disk group for all of the databases?
    In our case we going to have 11.2 and 10g rac running against 11.2 ask...
    Am I correct in saying that I have to set asm’s compatibility parameter to 10 in order to be able to use the same disk?
    Is this is a good idea? Or should i create another disk group for the 10g db’s?
    I’m assuming there are feature that will not be available when the compatibility is reduced to 10g...

    Oviwan wrote:
    what kind of storage system do you have? nas? what is your protocol between server and storage? tcp/ip (=>nfs)? fc?....
    if you have a storage with serveral disks then you create mostly more than one lun (raid 0, 1, 5 or whatever). if the requirement is, that you need a 1 TB diskgroup, then I would not create 1 1TB lun, I would create 5x200GB lun's for example, just for the case that you have to extend the diskgroup with a same lun size. if its 1 TB then you have to add another 1TB lun, if there are 5x200GB luns then you can simply add 200GB.
    I have nowhere found a document that says: if you have exactly 16 lun's for a diskgroup it's best. it depends on os, storage, etc...
    so if you create a 50gb diskgroup I would create just one 50gb lun for example.
    hthyes its NAS, connectd using Iscsi. it has 5 disks 1TB each and configued with RAID5. I found below requirments on asm ... it indicates 4luns as minimum per diskgroup, but it doesnt clearify whether its for external redundancy or as mredundancy types.
    •A minimum of four LUNs (Oracle ASM disks) of equal size and performance is recommended for each disk group.
    •Ensure that all Oracle ASM disks in a disk group have similar storage performance and availability characteristics. In storage configurations with mixed speed drives, such as 10K and 15K RPM, I/O performance is constrained by the slowest speed drive.
    •Oracle ASM data distribution policy is capacity-based. Ensure that Oracle ASM disks in a disk group have the same capacity to maintain balance.
    •Maximize the number of disks in a disk group for maximum data distribution and higher I/O bandwidth.
    •Create LUNs using the outside half of disk drives for higher performance. If possible, use small disks with the highest RPM.
    •Create large LUNs to reduce LUN management overhead.
    •Minimize I/O contention between ASM disks and other applications by dedicating disks to ASM disk groups for those disks that are not shared with other applications.
    •Choose a hardware RAID stripe size that is a power of 2 and less than or equal to the size of the ASM allocation unit.
    •Avoid using a Logical Volume Manager (LVM) because an LVM would be redundant. However, there are situations where certain multipathing or third party cluster solutions require an LVM. In these situations, use the LVM to represent a single LUN without striping or mirroring to minimize the performance impact.
    •For Linux, when possible, use the Oracle ASMLIB feature to address device naming and permission persistency.
    ASMLIB provides an alternative interface for the ASM-enabled kernel to discover and access block devices. ASMLIB provides storage and operating system vendors the opportunity to supply extended storage-related features. These features provide benefits such as improved performance and greater data integrity.
    one more question about fdisk partitioning. is it correct that we should only create one partition per luns (5x200Gb luns in my case) is it because this way i will have more consistent set of luns( in term of performance)?

  • Why logical partition is a must for voting disk and OCR

    Hi Guys,
    I just started handling jobs for RAC installation, I have a simple question regarding the setup.
    Why does logical partition have to be used for voting disk and OCR?
    I tried partition the disk that were provisioned for voting disk and OCR with primary partition but when OUI is trying to recognize the disk, it cannot find the disk that has been partitioned with primary partition.
    Thank you,
    Adhika

    Hello Adhika,
    I found it on this doc http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/install.111/b28250/storage.htm
    Be aware of the following restrictions for partitions:
    * You cannot use primary partitions for storing Oracle Clusterware files while running the OUI to install Oracle Clusterware as described in Chapter 5, "Installing Oracle Clusterware". You must create logical drives inside extended partitions for the disks to be used by Oracle Clusterware files and Oracle ASM.
    * With 32-bit Windows, you cannot create more than four primary disk partitions for each disk. One of the primary partitions can be an extend partition, which can then be subdivided into multiple logical partitions.
    * You can assign mount points only to primary partitions and logical drives.
    * You must create logical drives inside extended partitions for the disks to be used by Oracle Clusterware files and Oracle ASM.
    * Oracle recommends that you limit the number of partitions you create on a single disk to prevent disk contention. Therefore, you may prefer to use extended partitions rather than primary partitions.
    For these reasons, you might prefer to use extended partitions for storing Oracle software files and not primary partitions.
    All the best,

    Hello Harish,
    I don't think that there is issue of discovery string as I can see list of all disks path for ASM, but couldn't include(checked) listed disks for new ASM disk group. I couldn't see any option to trace for OUI while providing configuration for setup, it may trace the information when it starts installation. Please, correct me if I am wrong.
    Configuration of /etc/sysconfig/oracleasm is as follows:
    ORACLEASM_ENABLED=true
    ORACLEASM_UID=oracle
    ORACLEASM_GID=oinstall
    ORACLEASM_SCANBOOT=true
    ORACLEASM_SCANORDER=""
    ORACLEASM_SCANEXCLUDE=""
    How scan order can resut such a issue during installation? I couldn't understand.
    Anyway, I did modification in /etc/sysconfig/oracleasm as you have suggested, then reinitiated installation process after system reboot, modified parameters are listed below for your reference:
    ORACLEASM_SCANORDER="emcpower sd"
    ORACLEASM_SCANEXCLUDE="sda sdb sdc sdd sde sdf sdg"
    BUT COULDN'T RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
    output of "fdisk -l" is as follows, it can give you additional information:
