Insufficient file priviledges on Pages files upgraded to leopard

I've just backed-up my data (external firewire drive) and clean installed leopard.
After leopard install i tried to transfer the contents personal items such as the contents of 'my documents'.
But the file transfer process (external drive to MBP w/leopard) returns adhoc error messages 'the operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient priviledges for some of the items'.
Following some investigation I note that the files 'without privileges' are all Pages documents that I created a couple of years ago. I've installed iWork on my new MBP and the offending files evidently cannot be opened by Pages.
The particular files are not that important but they are causing backup process to fail and so making a simple process very cumbersome.
Ideas?

Update ... this problem is also effecting my transfer of iPhoto folder, in that a multiple standard photo image files evidently do not have sufficient privileges.
In case relevant ... i was the only user on my tiger mbp and am the only user on my leopard mbp so there were no odd sharing complexities?!?!?!

Tulse, I'm using Pages 2 too. The first thing I'd tried this on had only a simple drop cap in a text box, fixed on page. That didn't copy - or at any rate didn't paste. The text box had been sent back to overlay it with inline spaces to clear the capital. These reproduced, but the capital didn't. Neither did kerning or baseline adjustments, nor my inserted guides for "leading" the text to the same depth on every page
Also page set-up details were not transferred in this way: i.e., if you change the margins in a template (even the blank one) the margins don't transfer. Logical enough, page set-up belongs to the document, not the section.
Looking at this again, in the Extreme Newsletter template, imported graphics transferred, and inserted text transferred, but layering and placement information did not. I'd made my own pages by altering this, generally using text boxes or shapes to compose picture pages rather than using those in the template. But the copied and pasted sections were all over the place.
So it may be the case that if you're copying from a section to a document with identical layout, page set-up & etc. to the one you're copying from, the result will contain most of the content. But the layering, placement on page of fixed objects, etc., would seem to be decidedly iffy.
I've tried it on title page sections, where the info in fixed text boxes copied, but neither their placement nor relative placement, and (in the newsletter template) with both my own and the provided sections, with no consistent results. If it works in some cases, then that would be handy.
It's easy enough to try, and undo if it doesn't work.
But it's certainly no subsitute for being able to insert one Pages document into another; nor even always bits of it. I'd be inclined to conclude that copying and pasting in this way uses something less than the full Pages file format.

Verify the below details:
1. Whether your app/db started successfully.
2. Check the database properties :
Storage tab - .ind and .pag exits.
Statistics tab - whether any number exists in "number of existing blocks" and "existing level 0 blocks"
3. If all the above properties in esbase are fine then check your excel add-ins options settings while retrieval.

Can I change a PDF file to a pages file?

You can extract the text In Preview .app from a PDF file and Copy/Paste it into Pages.
Acrobat Pro can convert a .pdf into a Word .doc which you can then open in Pages, but it is quite a slow process, depending how large the .pdf is.
PDFs are not necessarily composed of text and images, they may only be images and any text they have is not actually freeflowing text. It takes a degree of programming trickery to work out what text fits where, especially if it is columns. You need to review it after to check it is what you expected.
If all you want is to see the pdf/s in Pages just drag it in, it is just an image. If it has multiple pages, then open it in Preview and copy over the thumbnails.

Error in Pages after upgrading to leopard.

Hi Everyone,
I just recently upgraded to Leopard and everything is runing smoothly (and beautifully) except Pages. For some reason, every time I open Pages I get this error:
"Some warnings occurred. Would you like to review them now?
You can review warnings at any time by choosing View > Show Document Warnings."
Then when I view the warnings, I read this:
"Substituted Font - The font “Helvetica-Narrow” was substituted for the missing font “Helvetica.”
And in the bottom left corner I see "replace font", but it is grayed out.
Obviously the font is not installed on my computer anymore, but what happened to it? How can I change the "default" font to something else so that I don't see the warning anymore?
Is there anything else I can do?

FCE file won't open after upgrading to Leopard

After upgrading a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 from OS 10.4.x Tiger to OS 10.5.8 Leopard, a Final Cut Express file on an external HD will no longer open. The error message is “File Error: Access Denied.”
Other files on the external drive using other applications launch with no problem.
The FCE file opens OK on another Mac running OS 10.6.
Any suggestions?

Different OSes handle it differently, besides the normally hidden UIDs.
I wonder if ACLs got enabled on those other drives?

Restoring files from Time Capsule after upgrading from Leopard to Snow Leopard.

I just purchased Time Capsule so I could back up all 105GB of data from my 2 year old, iMac 24 running Leopard.
I've been having issues, especially with Safari, so I'm (finally) upgrading to Snow Leopard.
My Time Capsule is being used as a SAN and is joining my already existing network via ethernet connection.
When I install Snow Leopard, I plan on blowing out Leopard and running Snow Leopard fresh from scratch, not doing an upgrade.
Will I be able to restore my files, iTunes, and photos from Time Capsule like if I were moving them from a flash drive, even though my iMac has changed?
I don't know if I'm thinking that Time Capsule is getting an image of my iMac and when I blow it out and load Snow Leopard on it, it won't be able to read it again...
But I'm thinking if the answer if yes, which mean I could move files backed up from my iMac to my MacBook Air. Right?

Convert a pdf file to a Pages file?

My apologies if this isn't the right place to ask this, but does Yosemite have a way to convert pdf files to Pages documents? Thank you for your help.

"Works smoothly"? Well, I wouldn't say it works as well as "smoothly". It works better than nothing, but depending on your formatting, etc., you may have some clean up to do once the conversion is done.
You're asking for a tough job - basically optical scanning of a pixelated document and de-interpreting that into meaningful words. So I would say PDFPen does a fair (but not great) job of this very tough task.

Check the database properties and see under storage tab if E drive has been mapped to that database.

Problem displaying some pages since upgrade of leopard

Hello everyone
Is anyone experiencing difficulties after the new leopard upgrade.
It all seemed to go well until I tried to read some of my pages. What is weird is that the pages are published and functionning well if accessed from the http..mydomain.com but if I try accessing using web.mac.... I can read some of the pages in the site others are 404.
the ones that are accessible are all password protected the 404 ones are not.
Any light would be appreciated.

I am bumping this up because I really need to solve this problem and I am stumped I must be doing something dumb but I am not seeing it.
I will give the real url so that you may suggest what I am doing wrong.
if I type http://www.clubiweb.com/iweb/Accueil.html or even just clubiweb.com no problem everything on the site opens and works.
but if I try to go through .mac
http://web.mac.com/clubiweb1/iweb/Accueil.html I get a not found page and this for any page on the site except for those that are proctected by a password.
they used to work before the update but that does not mean the update is responsible. I am using the same parameters as I did before
What am I missing?
does anyone see it please.

When I try to open a Pages file, I get a "need to upgrade" from 4.3. When I try to download it, I get the message "installed" and that's the roadblock. What to do, what to do?

I recently upgraded to Mavericks. Now, when I try to open a Pages file, I get a message that I must upgrade Pages from 4.3. When I click to download, I get a message "installed." I'm going around and around: Need to install; it's already installed. TIA.

Pages 5 is in your Applications folder.
Pages '09/'08 is in your Applications/iWork folder.
You are alternately opening the wrong versions.
Pages '09/'08 can not open Pages 5 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Older versions of Pages 5 can not open Pages 5.2 files and you will get the warning that you need a newer version.
Pages 5 can open Pages '09 files but may damage/alter them. It can not open Pages '08 files at all.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5 the Pages '09 files can not be opened in Pages '09.
Once opened and saved in Pages 5.2 files can not be opened in Pages 5.
Anything that is saved to iCloud and opened by newer Pages versions anywhere, is also converted to Pages 5 files.
All Pages files no matter what version and incompatibility have the same extension .pages.
Pages 5 files are now only compatible with themselves on a very restricted set of hardware, software and Operating Systems and will not transfer correctly on any other server software than iCloud.
Apple has removed over 95 features from Pages 5 and added many bugs:

Can I transfer an iPhoto Book project to a Pages file

Working on a long manuscript in Pages, including illustrations.
I have completed in iPhoto a Book Project relative to the Pages manuscript.
Is there a way to link the iPhoto project to the Pages file?
Or to transfer (cut and paste) the iPhone file into the Pages file as a separate section?

you can preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF and use it with pages or any other program
There is not a book in iPhoto - just database entries - creating a PDF is the way to have a book
