Insufficient Permissions (OSX 10.5.8)

So I posted another thread in which Flash Builder 4 Eclipse plugin kept crashing on me with a Configuration error and asking me to uninstall and reinstall FB4. After several days of this issue to no avail I've decided to try the FB4 Standalone version. Now, let me first point out that I am the ONLY ADMIN on my OSX installation yet, everytime I click - Help > Install New Software... I am presented with the "Insufficient Permissions" message. How can this be? Again, I am the only admin.
If anyone knows anything on either issue, your help will be most welcomed!
~gb

I'll answer my own question since this in my opinion is very silly on Adobes part. One must have root access under OSX to install plugins under FB4 standalone. I guess Admin access is not enough. One would think that this would be as under OSX you can have a Guest, Standard, or Admin account. There should be no reason why you should EVER have to login into root just to do something at the level of installing plugins to an applications.
This is just plain silly...

  • Insufficient permissions for software installation

We are experiencing following error message when installing software from software center using SCCM 2012 SP1 “Insufficient Permissions for software installation”. only when users (without local
admin) are login. This error is only happening to small number of clients while other clients are installing with no issue.
I have found following KB and it is the same issue:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/e2e68509-d6ee-4975-86b5-4894d2d6895f/software-center-permissions-error-sccm-2012?forum=configmanagerapps
Is it possible a GPO policy and if yes what will be the configuration information to verify.

    Hi,
Are there two clients with this error in the same domain and with the same GPO applied?

  • What to do if it is telling me I have "Insufficient Permissions?"

Well I've been having several problems.
First is when I go to install it I get a screen saying that the file "C:\Windows\System\32\Macroomed\Flash\NPSWF32.dll:5" could not be written due to insufficient permissions. I have no idea how to fix this or change it.
Here's a picture of the message that pops up:
And whenever I try to click the troubleshooting for it, it wont take me anywhere. The link is basically useless. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash player. But nothing seems to work.
Next is whenever I try to go install the plugins (for mozilla firefox) I get messages saying that the file cannot be downloaded. Or there is an error or something, but overall it basically says that the plugin cannot be installed.
I hope someone can help me. Any advice would be insanely helpful.

Hi, ok that's out of the way. When you had a problem trying to Install Flash Player in FF, I'm not sure what that Insuffieient Permissions message was referring to. If you are the Administrator, which you must be or you wouldn't have been able to Install in IE, then it may have been about not using the DLM.
The first thing you want to make sure is that the Security for the Internet Zone is set to Medium. And now that it is appearing that Firefox is getting restrictive about permissions, etc. as ActiveX is under IE, we need to make sure that no Anti-Virus will be blocking it. If your AV didn't block IE, then we are ok on that.
Download the Flash Player Installer for Firefox and SAVE it to your Desktop:
    http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
Once that is done, Close All browsers. RUN the Installer and when it is finished, Reboot Once.
Then check your Flash files folder and post back the files now listed. Then check the plug-ins for that SWF and make sure it is Enabled.
Hopefully this will be successful. If you get any messages during this Install, make a note and let me know.

  • Insufficient perms/long filename errors

I formatted a WD external HDD to have an HFS+(for backup using SuperDuper) and 2 FAT partitions. I had been using the hard drive without any errors, and did a reformat of OS X recently. Then, I wiped the three partitions on external HDD. When trying to copy files that I downloaded a day or two ago (after OS X reformat), from OS X's downloads folder to the HFS partition, it shows an error that some files have long filenames and cannot be copied. Some other files show error of insufficient permission.
    Can it be fixed?

I was trying to copy files downloaded to my Macbook HD to an non-journaled HFS+ partition and it worked. However, when I tried to copy the same files from the external HDD to a different folder on Macbook HD, it shows an error about insufficient permissions.
For the partition in external drive, I've checked "ignore permissions" and my username shows up under the list of owners. I also did a repair/repair permissions from Disk utility in the OS X install DVD. The DVD and Macbook contains the same OS X version (10.5.5), so I don't think an out-of-date Disk Utility messed up things.
I'd run the external HDD and Macbook with 10.5.5, without any problems before reinstalling OS X and problems cropped up.

I would try to login as owner (100) first then try to login again as a user (50).
Other than that take a look at the room console and see if the Access Model or Publisher Model is too high.

  • Insufficient Permissions when Installing Flash Player on Win 7.

    Disabled anti-virus.
I downloaded the latest install file.  Ran it and got Insufficient permissions at around 53%.  Checked and I am the admin (only account on laptop).
Did an uninstall and ran install from Adobe website.  Same.
Did an uninstall, downloaded file and "ran as administrator".  Same.
Any suggestions on how to get this to install?

I checked for the activex.vch file and it was gone from both 32 and 64.  I did another uninstall, checked for all files, then ran the install from the Adobe website.  Same issue.   I did another uninstall, checked that all files were gone, disabled anti virus software, and then ran the install from the install file that I downloaded from Adobe.  Same issue again.  Here are the latest logs:

  • Insufficient permissions for system restart

    Hi All,
We are receiving the following error when attempting to restart a domain controller, after MS updates have been installed, from within SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 software center.
    "Insufficient permissions for System Restart"
"Restarting this computer is only allowed for users with administrative permissions, or your IT department does not allow you to restart this computer"
The user on the domain controller can restart the server using a normal windows shutdown procedure outside of the software center, as they are in the Active Directory domain "backup operators" group.
The domain controller is running server 2008 R2 SP1.  The SCCM 2012 infrastructure is running R2 CU1 with the latest client installed on the domain controller.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
    Regards PowerShell90

    Hi Garth,
    Thanks for the quick reply
Domain administrators can install the updates and reboot within software centre without a problem.  No restrictions have been put in place for the domain controllers or backup operators.  We allow the Microsoft default option to allow members of
the domain "Backup Operators" to shut down domain controllers.  They are able to do this on the DC, but they get an error when trying to complete this through SCCM 2012 R2 CU1 software centre.  I can't understand why?

  • Why do I get the message "Insufficient Permissions" when trying to download updated iTunes software

Why do I get "Insufficient Permissions" message?

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.
XP instructions in the following document: How to perform disk error checking in Windows XP
Vista instructions in the following document: Check your hard disk for errors
Windows 7 instructions in the following document: How to use CHKDSK (Check Disk)
Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

  • Firefox won't download - insufficient permissions

    Help?
    TF

Hi TF, and a warm welcome to the forums!
In the Finder, do a Get Info on the Applications folder, what 3 Rights & privileges does it say at the bottom?
You can drag it to your Desktop in the meantime to use it if need be.
