Insufficient priviledges error
Hi,
I am executing exec dbms_stats.gather_schema_stats('SCHEMA_NAME',20); by logging into the schema. But it gives insufficient priviledges error. Please help.

UmeshNo, a regular user should never be granted <privilege> ANY <objec> privileges. These are all extremely powerful privileges that will allow an unsophisticated user to accidentally destroy your database, and a sophisticated user to deliberately destroy your database.
The only privilege required here is execute on dbms_stats.

Getting inappropriate "insufficient privileges" errors
I have a PL/SQL stored procedure which, if necessary, gets current values from a sequence, drops the sequence, and re-creates the sequence with the "start with" value higher than the max value of the column the sequence associated with.
Often, maybe 60% of the time, when I call the procedure, I get an "insufficient priviledges" error. The rest of the time it runs fine. If I run sqlplus as the same user (the DBA user which created the stored procedure and the sequence being recreated) and run the same commands manually, I never receive this error.
I am running Oracle 8.1.5 on a Linux RH 6.0+ server.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

nullHi there, this is what had to do.
First a bit background. I got the same errors. Insufficient privies for this and that. Logged in as Admin, same problem. Gave my user account Admin rights, still same problem.. now it actually said only 'Creator/Users' can install etc.
So long story short deleting, rebooting, magic... all failed.
1. I uninstalled all Apple software!!
2. yes all of it. Uninstall programs. Uninstalled Apple stuff, then Bonjour then Quick time.
3. tried to delete folders that were left behind, got smacked with insufficient rights to do so.
4. Logged in as Admin (that will teach ya Win 7)
5. Used Unlocker and LockHunter. I was able to unlock/kill process of some files and was able to delete some folders, but not all (grrrr)
6. disabled AntiVirus/Spyware program
7. that allowed me to delete all folders (wth? .. okay then)
8. went into registry and Searched for 'Apple'
9. fainted when I saw hundreds of Apple entries.
10. deleted all obvious 'Apple', 'MobileMe' and 'Quicktime entries', take care not to delete 'Applet...' stuff. Not the same. Like I said I only got rid of obvious Apple software stuff.
11. finally I ran CCleaner (great app, get it and donate a couple of $$) and had it scan, back up and clean my registry.
12 rebooted and logged in as me/user
13 checked /program files to make sure bonjour, apple and quicktime was really gone
14. downloaded latets itunes
15. installed itunes, did my back ups and updated ipod software

I have installed oracle software 10.2.0 on AIX box software was installed as per the document i have created oracle user , oinstall, dba group and gave the proper permission to oracle user , oracle dir and oradata dir
Now i m trying to create a database using DBCA.but while creation of db oracle is giving error ora 01031 insufficient priviledges if i ignore this error it is giving another error ora 01034 : oracle not available
how can i sovle this proble.Insufficient privileges is raised when you attempt a sysdba connection and you connect without providing sysdba password. This password is requested on unix environments when you attempt a connection with a user different from oracle (dba privileged group).
By default dba group is choosen as the default privileged group at install time, but you could have selected something else.
Verify if you are performing dbca actions directly logged in with oracle user. It is a very frequent issue people try to perform dba actions with root.

Installer has insufficient priviledges to access directory...
When installing 9.0, I get all the way to the end then get an error stating
"Error 1303: The installer has insufficient priviledges to access this directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Resource\Font\PFM. The installation cannot continue. Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator."
Sounds easy enough, but I already am logged on as the administrator. This is my personal computer and I have the only user account on the system. It lists my user account as the administrator. Being the only user account on the system, it's impossible to NOT be the administrator anyway.
What am I missing? The previous version of Reader has disappeared and I cannot view any PDF files. I am using Vista as my OS on an HP Pavillion Entertainment PC (laptop).

...(not noticing that that solution addressed the Program Data folder, not the Program Files folder), and it didn't work, but I wonder if a similar procedure on Program Files would work. But I don't know anything about theVista security system, so I'm a little wary of trying it. Would appreciate any thoughts. -

OMG.........I am ready to throw my PC, and IPHONE through the window. I am having issues with my ITUNES. I deleted everything possible to ITUNES and APPLE and now that I am reinstalling ITUNES, I am getting this error message.

That one can indicate file/disk damage. So the first thing I'd try would be running a disk check on the C drive.
There's instructions in the following document. Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

Does the disk check find/repair any damage? If so, reboot the PC and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time? -
DBCA + Insufficient Priviledges

I just finished intalling Oracle 9i Database with the OUI.
I invoked the DBCA to create a new database, at the moment that the database is fully parametrised and is ready to be created, I get a message:
ORA-01034: Insufficient Priviledges

I'm trying to connect to a friend that has dial-up and no camera (I'm doing one-way video chat). I have the right settings and have done everything everyone/every help tutorial has told me to do and I still keep getting the insufficient bandwidth error. Is it my computer or can I just not connect because of her crappy internets?
If you try to connect to another user that doesn't meet the minimum bandwidth requriements (which dial-up does not meet), you will receive the "Insufficent Bandwidth" message.

I have looked at many of the messages posted concerning the "insufficient bandwidth" error that I am receiving from iChat. I have implemented all suggestions and I am still having trouble.
I am using a capable Quad G5 with an iSight camera. I have all updates installed with Mac OS X 10.4.6. I am using iChat 3.1.4 (v432).
I always get the "insufficient bandwidth" error message when I initiate a video chat with the outside world. I can text with all buddies.
I see the three test sites (appleu3test01,appleu3test02,appleu3test03) with green video cameras (multiple),as well the other contacts on my Buddly List.
I am connected to a university wireless system. I can transfer files up and down at about 6 Mbps, so there is no bandwidth problem. The IT experts say there are no ports blocked and that all is well. I have the Mac OS X firewall turned off. I can video chat perfectly with buddies inside my building, but when I try to go outside, I get the "insufficient bandwidth" error message.
Following a thread on the iChat Discussions, I captured an error log for iChat. I was hoping someone in the Discussions could interpret the log results so I could diagnose the problem with connecting from to the outside world. I annotated the log with some information about when I did what, starting the line with a /. I used the command
/Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7

It is the IP listed here that worries me.
You say you are on a Wireless connection to the University's service but you are showing a Public IP (One I would expect to see as part of the info)
Has the Uni given you a direct outside line as it were ?
Are you saying you can use Bonjour but not the AIM side ?
Or do you mean that you can call out over the AIM side and get back to Buddies in your Building but not others ?
I am expecting you to tell us that the set up is like this:
Uni connection to the internet (Server or modem) <-> 1 or more routers <-> Wirless connection <-> Your computer
With a domsetic set up you would have a Public IP at the modem. This may or may not pass that IP to the next device. At this point there would be a LAN set of IPs issued to the subsequent devices and computers.
LAN IPs are in three groups of numbers
192.168.xxx.xxx
10.xxx.xxx.xxx
172.(16-32).xxx.xxx (basically a subset within 172.xxx.xxx.xxx)
The IP you show here is not one of those.
It is possible that the Uni has decided to use there own choice of IP numbers for their LAN.
However I would still expect to see two IP's showing up for you. One Public and the IP your computer has on the LAN.
Can you tells what IP you see in System Preferences > Network > Connection method in second drop down and then TCP/IP tab ?
I am expecting this to be a NAT problem.
More info on how the Uni are routing you to the outside would be helpful.

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your taking the time to help me with this problem. I'm doing a healing technician training class at my church, and have most of my study material on my ipod. It cashed this weekend which hindered my preparation for my class tomorrow night. I went to the local "Apple Store" late last night and they could get me up and running. They suggested that I call the APL CARD line which I did today, but they gave me a nice run around seccession, and did nothing. Then I was lead to "Google" my question, which eventually lead me to the "Apple" site. Praise the LORD for your help and may you be richly blessed with multiplied blessings in all that you put your hands to do. May you receive a great harvest. As far as I'm concerned you were used by the LORD, and are the real genius!!!

I can run this procedure in sqlplus as user x and also as my apex_public_user. I have granted both execute on dbms_sql and alter user privs. It runs for both without problems.
I then create a validation process in APEX can call this database procedure. I then receive insufficient privs errors.
If I grant all privs to public, the apex app will then run, if I remove all privs I receive the errors again.
Does anyone know which database priv I am missing, I cannot grant all privs to public on my production database?

If it works as user X from SQL*Plus, could you try to change the parsing schema to User X and try again?

ORA-01031: Insufficient privileges error in upgrading from 9.2.0.5 to 10.2
Hi, I am using DBUA to upgrade oracle 9i database to 10g. In step 1 of 7 when I select 9i datagase to upgrade I get ORA-01031: Insufficient privileges error. However, I can connect to the database from 9i as well as 10g using SQLPlus. Any idea what could be going wrong? Thanks. Manish

the OS user should be in ORA_DBA group.

I have an Oracle 9.2.0.5 database installed on my laptop (Windows 2000 Prof), but I have a small problem.
When I'm plugged in to the company's network, I can start the database normally.
However, when I'm not connected to the company network, i.e. only logged in locally on my laptop, then I get an ORA-01031 Insufficient Privileges error when I start the database. Therefor, I can't do anything.
When I'm plugged into the company network, start the database, and then unplug my laptop, I can still connect to the database. So I guess it checks some userrights only when it starts the database.
I checked the user account settings, and my user is a local administrator, and is in the ORA_DBA usergroup.
Does someone know which setting I have to change?You can install MS Loopback Adapter on your system and assign an IP Address to the loopback adapter. You should then be able to work even when not connected to the network.

ORA-01031 insufficient privileges error when selecting from a view
OK I think this might be a dumb question but I can't figure it out:
User John has been granted SELECT privilege (directly, not through a database role) to schema FRED.table1;
User John can issue select * from FRED.table1; and it works just fine.
User John has then been granted SELECT privilege (directly, not via a database role) to schema
MARK.view1;
MARK.view1 only selects from FRED.table1. No other tables are in the view1.
Schema MARK can successfully query the views. SELECT * FROM VIEW1 returns results.
I also checked the MARK schema to ensure that it has been granted SELECT on FRED.table1 directly which it has.
Now, when logged into schema John, I try SELECT * FROM MARK.VIEW1; and I get ORA-01031 insufficient privileges error.
I'm not sure how to troubleshoot this. If John is granted SELECT ANY TABLE, it of course works but I don't want John to have that powerful priv.
To recap, John has SELECT on both MARK.VIEW1 and the table which VIEW1 selects from (FRED.TABLE1).
John can select from FRED.TABLE1 no problem but receives a privilege error even though John has SELECT on MARK.VIEW1.
Any thoughts?

To recap, John has SELECT on both MARK.VIEW1 and the table which VIEW1 selects from (FRED.TABLE1).
John can select from FRED.TABLE1 no problem but receives a privilege error even though John has SELECT on MARK.VIEW1.
Any thoughts?
Oh, Oracle EE 10.2.0.4Are you certain John has been granted select on Mark.view1 ? In order for that to work Mark would have to have been given select on Fred.table1 WITH GRANT OPTION ... otherwise the grant would fail and then John would not be able to select from the view because the grant was never successfully issued.
Here's a basic test case (which i think conforms to what you've outlined) to get it working.
drop user u1 cascade;
drop user u2 cascade;
drop user u3 cascade;
create user u1 identified by u1;
grant connect, resource to u1;
create user u2 identified by u2;
grant connect, resource, create view to u2;
create user u3 identified by u3;
grant connect, resource to u3;
connect u1/u1@orcl
create table test1 (col1 number);
grant select on test1 to u2 with grant option; --> this is the important part
grant select on test1 to u3;
connect u2/u2@orcl
create view test2 as select * from u1.test1;
grant select on test2 to u3;
connect u3/u3@orcl
select * from u2.test2;
