Insydeh20 V3.5 F.26

It's quite simple. The hard-drive on my HP G50-116CA laptop failed. I purchased the same model drive from the drive manufacturer, it was 320gb vs the original 250gb. Installed the new drive, InsydeH20 reports its existance...that's all fine. The problem is that the laptop will not boot to ANY external device. Yes, yes, I've set the boot priority, everthing is there. The lap top will simply not boot up. " No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key" over and over and over. What's up with that? It's a shame really the lap top is 6 years old and has virtually nothing wrong with it, in true HP quality...but this is crazy.

Hi GRIFFIN1962,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
I would like to take a moment and thank you for using the forum, it is a great place to find answers. For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
I grasp that your hard drive failed and you have installed the replacement and the bios recognizes the drive. You have changed the boot order but are still unable to boot to an external device,
The first thing I would do is check to see if Secure boot is enabled in the bios,  if it is, disable it.  This should allow it to boot to an external device such as a USB.
 I hope this helps.

  • Lenovo G770 - BIOS InsydeH20

    Hello All;
Before purchasing the system that I have, I did a lot of research, and found out that the motherboard that comes with this system will go up to 16Gb of RAM.
Once I received the system, I inserted both 8GB RAM sticks and booted the computer.
Windows 7 recognized all the memory, and posted it as having 16Gb of RAM.
Adobe Applications, such as Photoshop and After Effects, as well as Sony Vegas, all utilized all 16Gb of Ram.
However, the system would crash with RAM related memory dumps.
I rebooted the system and went into the BIOS (Of which is InsydeH20), and I saw that the BIOS
was reading my Memory as 6Gb, instead of the 16Gb that I have installed.
Therefore, I performed the following test.
I removed both sticks of 8Gb, and put in the original 6Gb that came with the system.
    1x4gb
    1x2Gb
booted into the BIOS, and it showed the 6Gb of RAM accurately.
Then, I removed both of them Stick, and then inserted a single 8Gb stick, and left the other slot empty
Booted into the BIOS, and Wa-LA, it read it as 8Gb of memory.
I added in the 2Gb stick into the other available slot, making it 10Gb total and booted into the BIOS, and it read it as 1Gb of installed RAM.
    So.
    In conclusion.
This system will handle 16gb of RAM.
However, without the BIOS recognizing all the available Memory, I cannot run all 16Gb of ram as it will cause memory dumps and other related issues, as I have been told on several different Memory related forums, as well as talking with the people from Crucial memory.
So, I currently and successfully run the
    1x8Gb
1xEMPTY (Meaning the other slot is empty)
    My question is the following.
How can I get into the BIOS and set it to recognize all the available memory?
As the BIOS is only set to run 8Gb, of which is half of what the Motherboard will handle.
Why Lenovo did this, is beyond me, and it makes me mad, that I cannot administer my system like I should be able to, since I OWN this system.
Any Lenovo Admin's want to answer this question?
    Thank you
    Wayne

So i take it, no one wants to put in their 2 cents on this thread?

  • Need to change s/n in insydeh20 bios

i need any tools to edit insyeh20 bios or DMI,as my compaq presario cq61 keeps displaying no s/n no while booting

Identify your notebook with its complete product name or number.
Remove the battery and look for a label that says p/n. there is an alphanumeric string there that completely identifies your notebook.
    Please provide the following information.
Customer location (country is close enough for starters)
PC Model information (model number and product number would help)
"did it ever work", "when did it last work", "what changed"
    The installed BIOS version
Was there a recent BIOS update performed that caused this to happen?

  • InsydeH20 advanced tab

dear staff,i need to power off my discreted video chard (ATI mobility radeon 5470) couse i think it is damaged. Infact when i try to install the originals manufacturers driver for the hibrid graphic sp50704.exe the screen became black (no backlight) at the Windows login page, or sometimes i get a BSOD caused by atikmpag.sys. (this seems to be not deterministic) So i want to use only the intel integrated graphic card, but if I install only the intel drivers sp51914.exe my pc became too hot without motivation and the fan start to turn very fast and noisly, and often the pc shutdown itself for these temperatures.I suppose this happens becouse the ATI vga have no drivers but is not disabled (disabling it via Windows device manager doesn't resolve the problem). For these reasons i NEED to access to my FULL BIOS with the advanced setting, to power off the ATI vga. Could you help me?Could be very helpfull to have an unlocked bios upload avable in my laptop hp page "Drivers and software", this limitation have no sense. It's impossible use my pc in this moment. Thanks in advance.

The calibration settings in the Advanced Tab is for users who want to experiment more and get more juice out for the specific camera/lens body combinations. By default, ALPC picks the optimal settings automatically, ie to balance fitting the noisy data accurately v.s. finding the simplest model that can generalize. I would only try to deviate from the default if one finds the default settings does not generate satifactory correction results.

    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you're unable to make calls on your notebook because the mic is not working.
What software are you using to make the calls? Does it say no mic detected or is it that people cannot hear you?
Please test your mic by following this video:

I have a problem with the AHCI controller for my SATA hard drive. Can anyone tell me how to access the advanced menus in this bios?

Several and various problems related chiefly to booting and file transfer ( IF I get it started at all!!!) I can only assume that it is related to cmos and bios settings or poor communication between hdd and mainboard. I believe that the motherboard is u/s but I would like to investigate all other avenues first before i commit it to the garbage.
I have checked the cmos battery but i usually loses the boot option for hdd between uses.
I have googled all solutions to no avail so far

  • HP, I need you to support your Hardware!!

Two weeks ago I bought a HP Pavilion dm3 1104tx at Harvey Norman (Sydney,Au) link to HN.
The offical Product specification DOES NOT specify it has Hybrid Graphics  (do not confuse with nvidia optimus) but it does (nvidia g 105m + intel igp) (ref: see advanced details) and I NEED TO DISABLE Hybrid Graphics (I wouldn't have bought it if I knew it had hybrid graphics).
specs: Link (HP) (or in Advanced Details)
Why do I need to disable Hybrid Graphics?
Infew words: I cant install the nvidia Verde drivers (the official ones) unless I disable the integrated graphics (iGPU).
Keep hybrid graphics on implies that I wouldnt be able to use the new CUDA features nor the 3D vision that comes with the new drivers, I wouldn't get driver bug fixes, no FLASH GPU ACCELERATION  no newer features and I wouldnt be able to use the nvidia GPU on linux (I know I know, HP does not support linux on this product, this is like a "side effect"), among many other things.
Also the intel igp is really bad, i get tearing all the time, has awful performance and I DIDN'T EVEN PAY TO HAVE IT (AND THEY NEVER SPECIFIED I'D GET THAT) --- I DONT WANT IT---
So i'd be happy by using only the nvidia dGPU (the g 105m one the specs).
For references please read the Advanced Details.
NOW, THE LOGIC THING TO DO IS ASK HP TO FIX THIS, since I bought the computer ~2 weeks ago (I cant return it anymore), BUT  tech support was, as always, NOT helpful at all (they dont know anything at all).
Again, all I want to do is disable the intel iGPU, And HP CANT expect me to solve this by myself, and not fixing this means they dont support their own hardware.
HOW CAN I CONTACT SOMEONE AT HP THAT IS ABLE TO DEAL WITH ADVANCED SUPPORT PROBLEMS??????
HP, IF YOU ARE READING I WANT YOU TO UPDATE THE INSYDEH20 BIOS OF THE DM3-1104TX, I NEED TO SHUT DOWN THE iGPU THAT I DIDNT PAY FOR, NEITHER WAS IN THE OFFICIAL SPECS.
I cant even believe hp has products like this... Im very satisfied with my HP Mini 311, please do not let me down!!.
I want to use my dm3!!
    E. Arturo
Apologies if this is too "confusing" English is not my first language.
    ---------------------------ADVANCED DETAILS------SKIP-IF-YOU-DON'T-WANT-TO-READ-TECHNICAL-INFO--------------------------
    Specs  Link (HP):
The specs in Harvey Norman are the same.
The command 'lspci | grep VGA' on linux outputs:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98M [GeForce G105M] (rev a2)
That confirms that the dm3-1104tx *has* hybrid graphics, and it is enabled.
HP nvidia drivers are obsolete (2009, keep in mind nvidia releases drivers ~2 times a month (this affects me as no bug fixes and/or new features are provided))
    ref: Drivers (HP)
the official nvidia drivers can't be installed "Notebooks supporting Hybrid Power technology with Intel chipsets are not supported by this release."
    ref:Drivers (nVidia) (under supported products)
nvidia claims HP is responsible for the support of this card, ref: nVidia forums (means no drivers unless HP releases new drivers (its been two years since they updated their drivers!!) or updates bios to let me shut down IGP)
This happens if I try to install the nvidia Driver, THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, IF I KNEW THIS COMPUTER HAD HYBRID GRAPHICS I WOULDNT HAVE BOUGHT IT, AS I NEED THE NEW NVIDIA DRIVERS AS SOON AS THEY ARE RELEASED (AGAING, THE SPECS NEVER SPECIFY THE FACT THAT THIS COMPUTER HAS HYBRID GRAPHICS).
Nvidia stopped support for hybrid power (means no new drivers) "Support for Hybrid Power, a Hybrid SLI technology, is discontinued and not available with this driver"
ref: Nvidia no longer supports hybrid power
There is a "modded" driver to use the optimus driver on the hybrid hardware (but im not going to use it as is too buggy and does not work properly)
    ref:unofficial hybrid drivers
The insyde bios has an advanced hidden menu in which the iGPU can be turned off
HP support doesn't even know the existence of this menu. And this menu is of curse not visible by default in the setup utility.
example of unlocked BIOS (this is my 311 not my dm3, if this was my dm3 I wouldn't be here):
This is my Hp 311. Advanced -> Video Configuration (theren you can shut down the iGPU")
in my hp mini 311 i can access the advanced menu by pressing "A" immediately after "F10" at start up (but it doesnt work on my dm3)
    ref: "F10" + "A" = Advanced Menu
Also in this forum they modded the HP 311 bios to display the Advanced menu by default: HP Mini Bios Hack
the nvidia drivers can be installed if the integrated graphics are disabled.
quote from the nvidia driver: "notebook and all-in-one desktop designs with switchable (hybrid) or Optimus graphics will not work if means to disable the integrated graphics in hardware are not available." (linux driver, under additional information) (means that if I disable the iGPU i can use the drivers)
*note although this is for the linux drivers It should also apply to the windows drivers, I'll add reference as soon as I get it.
ref: Drivers (nvidia) (see under additional info )
ive  dumped the bios (InsydeH20) to a binary file and dissembled the setup utility (using marcan's  python scripts on linux) and found that the advanced menu is actually there (but hidden) (but I don't know how to enable it)
marcan's blog: Marcan's Blog (he wrote the scripts to enable VT but they can be used to dissemble the setup utility)
python scripts : Insyde Hack Tools

how to flash with a modded BIOS: Undocumented way to Flash Insyde BIOSes (also they mod bioses but they haven't been able to help me so far)
proof that the advanced menu exists on HPs: HP latops have "Advanced" menu in BIOS
also there is an "official" leaked tool from insyde called ezh20 which can be used to mod insyde bioses with a hexeditor.
    Notes:
1 Im NOT trying to get support for Linux, Im just using linux as a tool
2 I do not have the leaked ezH20 tool as that might be illegal.
3 All I want is to disable the Integrated GPU

That is a horse of another color. I understand and sympathize. Somebody needs to help and I will post this on another board to see if there is some inside HP support available to you. Best I can do.

  • Error 90B - Fan not working properly?

Hello, this is my first time here so please excuse me if I posted this in the wrong section.
    First, general specs:
    HP Pavilion dv6 Notebook PC
    Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit
    BIOS:  InsydeH20 Version CCB.03.61.09F.21
    Processor:  AMD A6-3400M APU w/Radeon HD (4 cpus ~1.4GHz)
    6g RAM
(If anything else is needed to help me ask, and I shall post it)
Last week I received an error 90B for my laptop's cooling fan.  I was playing Guild Wars 2 and in the middle of playing my laptop shut down suddenly.  When I turned it back on it presented the error I'm asking about.  The thing is, the system wasn't overheating in the slightest and the fan was working just fine before it shut down.  I've tried many fixes proposed on HP's website and from a couple of friends:
-Compressed air blown into the vents
-System restore to a point where the fan worked
    -Hard reset
    -BIOS update
None of those proposed fixes worked.  However, I did find something that fixed it...for about ten minutes.  I fiddled with the Catalyst Control Center and set my CPU power back to its default 1400 MHz, and I shut down my system.  After I restarted it I miraculously didn't get the 90b error!  You could imagine how happy I was.  I shut it down one more time to see if the error was truly fixed, but lo and behold it showed up again.
The only change that could have caused the issue was me downloading a program called SpeedFan to monitor my system's temperature (I did NOT (I repeat, DID NOT) change any settings using the program - I purely used it to monitor the temperature.)
I cannot afford to have a repairman replace or look at my laptop as of now, we have bills to pay and food to get, and I absolutely NEED this computer to function.  I have work to do, and classes to sign up for, and we have no public computers for miles.  Please help me!

Not every fan error is a heat error. There is a sensor that detects a bearing that is wearing out or spinning that is out of round. You can sometimes limp it along for 6 months before the fan absolutely has to be replaced. When it does you will not be able to get past the error.

  • Hard drive and system recovery question - "No boot device"

I replaced a 320Gb - 5400 rpm drive that failed with a 750Gb - 7200 rpm drive.  Using the HP System Recovery disks to reload the OS, once it goes through the restoration process the mb doesn't seem to recognize the hard drive and I get the "No Boot device" message upon rebbot. Unfortunately, the BIOS is not the best and it won't allow me to see if it actually recognizes the new hdd, which I suspect it doesn't  - even though the Recovery Manager seems to . Either that or I have a bad MB.
    Sytem information - HP G71-340US
    Processor - 2.20 GHz Intel Core2 Duo Processor T6600
    BIOS - InsydeH20 3.5
So even though Recovery manager *appears* to be installing W7 just fine, but it's a no go when it's time to actually boot to it, what is the problem?  Is this a mb issue or did I just buy the wrong hd?

Well, a few reboots later and it seems the issue is no longer the mb or the hd.  W7 is having a tough time though, and am now working on the second system restore, this time from the recovery partition, to try and get it to load fully.  When I reinstalled from the System Recovery DVD the second time through, I skipped installing the third (driver) disk and that appeared to help.  Just wish I could get the OS to comply. Maybe the third time will be a charm?

  • Can I install an SSHD into a Notbook Pavilion 15-e092sa

    Hi,
I've been trying all afternoon to install a Solid State Hybrid Drive into my Hp Pavilion 15-e092sa.
No matter what I do, the new SSHD isn't recognised.
    Things show up like:
SMART Hard Disck Error - detected imminent failure
    Hard Disck 1 (301)
And when I try and do a HD check, I get this:
    Smart Check: Not Available
    Long Dst: Not Available
    Occasionaly I've got:
    Boot Device Not Found
    Hard Disck (3F0)
All the instructions that I'm reading which say go into the BIOS Setup Utility menu to manualy look for the HD, are telling me to click on a 'File' tab. But there isn't a file tab. The BIOS I have is InsydeH20.
I've searched around all afternoon for any information about the 15-e092sa, but there's nothing when it comes to this.
Is this model able to be upgraded?
I'm not a techy, so any help with this would be awesome!
    Much love to you all

    Hi,
Looks like the connection for pins does not line up properly or damages. Please check them again.

  • Kernel Power error after Win 7 and RAM upgrade

    Hello,
I posted earlier on the subject of win7 and ram upgrades.  I did both and it seemed to go fine.  I did the ram first ... replaced a 667Mhz 1gb with a 800Mhz 2gb.  A couple of days later the computer just shut itself down and restarted.  Since then it has done it another 5 times, seemingly at random.  Yesterday I decided to spend some time looking into it and found the 'event log'.  All the shutdowns are recorded as 'critical'.  A search on the web/here showed other occurences of the fault associated with drivers as much as anything.
After I did the win update I did update almost every driver with ones from this site.
Other than the shutdowns the only issues I have which are of very mild concern are the length of time the fingerprint reader takes to be present and that occasionally the cursor is unavailable for about a minute after logging on. When you try and control it it jumps about anywhere but where you want it to go.   I rolled back the alps driver and that seems to have sorted the cursor issue.
So, details of the shutdown from the event log are as follows.
    Log Name:      System
    Source:        Microsoft-Windows-Kernel-Power

    Description:
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."
There's more (I've shown it all below) but it's not that important.  When I looked into it I found details of the problem on the microsoft knowledge base.  Its described here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2028504.
I believe I fit into scenario 3 for cause and resolution.
So, it seems that win7 and mixed speed ram may be a problem on some computers ... probably only a tiny number, but it looks like the HP3507 is one of them.  I did see somewhere that I could down speed from 667 to 266 which might help with memory compatability but I can't see anywhere on the the insydeH20 bios where to do it.  BIOS is version F18 .... upgraded from F15 as part of the Win7/RAM ugrade.
Before I swap back to the 'old' memory I'll see if anybody here can come up with any ideas.  It may be that I have to sell off the expensive 2gb memory (ddr2 800mhz 200 pin) for £39.99 from maplin at a bargain price and get 2gb of 667Mhz from somewhere.
The full 'detail' regarding the fault is below.
    Bye for now.

    Hi DWeiland and Schwede,
Thanks for your replies. Yes I did the runtime engine registry change and also mass compiled the LV7.1 folder and my sourcecode. I still see the problem as I have set the LV adapter as Lv 7.1.1 runtime engine. Now I have changed it to LV7.1 development system. With this setting, it is not giving any error. Thus I don’t see any problem now. The older version of the code had the adapter as the runtime engine for some reason, now I have changed the setting to the development system. I hope that it shouldn’t be a problem.
    Thanks again!
    Thank you,
    Sasi

  • Error message 0xc0000034 at startup / no recovery drive / yoga 13

    Hi,
I have an urgent problem: at startup, there is the following message on my screen:
    Recovery
Your PC needs to be repaired
The Boot Configuration Data file is missing some required information.
    File: \BCD
    Error Code: 0xc0000034
You'll need to use the recovery tools on your instillation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer
Press ESC for UEFI Firmware Settings
When I press ESC (or alternativelzy F2 or F12 during startup) I get to the InsydeH20 Setup Utility.
I've searched online and did not find a solution. The main problem: I DON'T HAVE ANY INSTALLATION MEDIA! The notebook came with recovery partition on the harddrive. I applied the official Lenovo hotfix after receiving the notebook. The hotfix repartitioned the HD and also the recovery partition, I suppose. This was a long time ago and I never had any problems since. I also noticed that some time ago, Windows stopped downloading updates.
    Help is very much appreciated!!

MORE INFO: It does NOT seem to be an iCal problem; rather a system startup error-- or even when logging-out and logging-back-in I get this. It seems a -39 error is:
    -39
    eofErr
End of file; no additional data in the format
but I don't know what this means; nor why I'm getting this now, just today, at startup. Should I repair permissions or verify disk or???
    Any assistance really appreciated.

    - HDD failed after renewing trial period of virus software.
    - All diagnostics would not recognize HDD.
    - HP support indicated still in warranty, but I am out of country.  HP indicated most likely issue was HDD cable.
    - Purchase cables and had someone hand carry out of US.
    - Installed, still same response.
    - Ordered new HDD from HP.  Backordered.  Finally on inquiring was directed to a US 3rd part rep.  He recommended buying directly from outlet, but a higher speed.  Did that and then HP replacement HDD arrives.  Hand carry both out of US.
    - Install faster (slightly smaller) Seagate 500G 7200.  Started recovery with recovery disks (5 total that received from BestBuy, but not OEM looking), but is squawked as new HDD is smaller than original WD 640G 5400.   Put WD into #1 bay and Seagate into #2.
    - Start recovery disk process.  Go through entire recovery from factory process and on last disk, it says to not touch while PC boots on and off, etc.  Then says press Continue to continue.
    - When press continue, simply goes to black screen with "No boot device..."
    - Run other options, same message.
    - Ran diagnostics.  HDD all OK.
    - Called HP support.  He indicates I need to buy the HP recovery disks.  The ones I have (5) are not the right one, that there should only be 3!  They are as I received from BestBuy, but look like they were made there when BestBuy sets up the PC.
    Any suggestions anyone?

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but rather a similar issue.  I replaced a 320Gb - 5400 rpm drive that failed with a 750Gb - 7200 rpm drive and even though I have the factory restore disks, it won't recognize the hard drive and I too get the "No Boot device" message.  Unfortunately, the BIOS is not the best and it won't allow me to see if it actually recognizes the new hdd, which I suspect it doesn't.  Either that or I have a bad MB.
    Sytem information - HP G71-340US
    Processor - 2.20 GHz Intel Core2 Duo Processor T6600
    BIOS - InsydeH20 3.5
Recovery manager *appears* to be installing W7 just fine, but it's a no go when it's time to actually boot to it.  Is this a mb issue or did I just buy the wrong hd?

I can imagine that Toshiba service provider in your country can help you with this. They must have access to Toshiba database and also access to all previous BIOS versions.
