INTEGO NET BARRIER CRASHES COMPRESSOR

I just discovered via process of elimination that Intego Net Barrier 10.4.5 was crashing compressor. While Compressor was hung, I tried de-selecting different settings in NB, to no avail... BUT... when I disabled NB completely, compressor un-hung immediately and began processing my submission without a glitch, seeing even my virtual cluster.

I just discovered via process of elimination that Intego Net Barrier 10.4.5 was crashing compressor. While Compressor was hung ("waiting" in Batch Monitor, would not allow cancel), I tried de-selecting different settings in NB, to no avail... BUT... when I disabled NB completely, compressor un-hung immediately and began processing my submission without a glitch, seeing even my virtual cluster.
    Bye Bye Net Barrier.

I installed the Update Rollup 4 to my SCVMM 2012 SP1 installation, and this is ok now.

  • How do I completely uninstall intego net barrier? I can't install Norton Antivirus 2012 until this is off my computer

How do I completely uninstall intego net barrier? I can't install Norton Antivirus 2012 until this is off my computer. And I can not get it off my Computer. ANyone?

Intego has their own uninstaller which is the best thing to use. Otherwise, see the following. From a practical point of view you really don't need any such software on the Mac.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, Easy Find, instead.  Download Easy Find at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
    AppZapper
    Automaton
    Hazel
    CleanApp
    Yank
    SuperPop
    Uninstaller
    Spring Cleaning
Look for them at VersionTracker or MacUpdate.

Do I need another antivirus program for Windows 7 in Boot Camp if I have Intego Virus Barrier already installed on my Mac?

Different operating systems require different solutions. Microsoft Security Essentials is decent, easy to set up, and free.

Does this intego virus barrier plus compatible with Lion osx 10.7.2?

To be honest... just looking at the two sites...  ClamXav and Intego... ClamXav seems much less "the sky is falling" going in favor of the "these are the facts" approach.  In fact, I've never read the ClamXav home page... but what they say is pretty much exactly what I would tell anyone asking about antivirus software on a Mac.  Basically, I would have no problem quoting what ClamXav has on their site.  I think quoting what Intego has on there site would come across as being a bit alarmist.  I can certainly say if I quoted what is on the Intego site to someone asking about antivirus software for their Mac, I would instantly get tons of people responding.  But hey, they're selling a product.  I don't find what they say to be nearly as offensive as what some other companies try to do (namely the fake pop-ups telling  you that your system is infected and you must download their app to fix it).  I also like that ClamXav offers useful best practices suggestions... which is really the best way of avoiding getting nasties on your system.
    ClamXav:
    http://www.clamxav.com/about.php
Back in the days before OS X, the number of viruses which attacked Macintosh users totalled somewhere between about 60 and 80.  Today, the number of viruses actively attacking OS X users is none.  However, this doesn't mean we should get complacent about checking incoming email attachments or web downloads.
Firstly, there's no guarantee that we Mac users will continue to enjoy the status quo, especially as there is now a small handful of trojans for OS X, but more importantly, the majority of the computing world uses machines running MS Windows, for which an enormous quantity of viruses exist, so we must be vigilant in checking the files we pass on to our friends and colleagues etc.
For example, if you're a wise person and you've turned off MS Office's macro support then you're not going to notice that virus which is hiding inside this month's edition of Extreme Ironing.doc which your friend sent you.  If you then forward that document to a less wise person who has not turned off the macro support, then you have most likely just sent him a shiny new Pandora's Box with a sign saying "Open this end"!
Flippancy aside, I'm sure you get the idea: check the file before opening and/or sending it on to someone else.  This gives you the opportunity to avoid the file altogether or at least copy and paste any vital information into a new document and send that instead.
Don't forget, if you run VirtualPC or VirtualBox or use any other means to run MS Windows software on your Mac, you can still become infected within that environment and lose valuable data on your Mac.  These programs will run almost any Windows application you tell it to - virus or no virus - it doesn't know the difference.  Note that ClamXav can only protect you against malware which you download and check on the Mac, so you may still want to install other antivirus software within your Windows environment.
    Why do it?
Way back in 2004, I was looking for a low cost solution for scanning emails, documents and downloads for viruses.  The open-source ClamAV project seemed to fit the bill and I used it for a few months, but soon tired of using the command line to operate it, so I took it upon myself to develop a graphical front-end in my own spare time.  ClamXav was the result.
Since then, numerous features have been requested and implemented, and ClamXav has gone from strength to strength.  When ClamXav turned 5 years old in September 2009, I released an new version, ClamXav 2.0, built from the ground up with an entirely new interface.  It remained as beta software for about 18 months before finally being unleashed.
    Is it really free?
I hope you like ClamXav and use it a lot and that it helps keep you and your friends/colleagues virus-free.  Although I'm providing ClamXav for free, I am increasingly spending more and more time developing it and would really appreciate if you would consider making a donation please.  All donations (no matter how small) are gratefully received and would be a huge incentive to help me work on future versions of ClamXav, but more importantly I rely on donations to pay for my bandwidth costs. Please consider it.

Only VirusBarrier X6 provides comprehensive protection                from malware and network threats. VirusBarrier X6 is the only                antivirus program for Mac that includes full anti-malware protection                together with firewall, network protection, anti-phishing, anti-spyware            features and more.
As malware changes, protection needs to be reinforced
While viruses, Trojan horses, worms and other forms of malware                are a constant threat to computers of all kinds, cyber-criminals                are turning to new techniques to infect and control your Mac. These new threats come silently,              with little warning, over the Internet: in many cases, simply visiting              a booby-trapped web page can compromise your Mac. Focusing on malware              or network attacks alone is no longer sufficient to protect Macs from the dangers of the              Internet.
    Comprehensive protection with VirusBarrier X6
VirusBarrier X6, the latest version of Intego's network and malware                security program, includes more than 100 new features. With multiple                threat-detection techniques, improved methods of detection, combined                detection protocols, proactive behavioral analysis, and a full                range of defensive functions, VirusBarrier X6 protects Macs from                all known network-based threats, as well as all known malware.
The right protection for Mac OS X

  • Anti-Alias Frame Control Crashes Compressor

I don't know if people are still having this problem, but the Anti-Alias control in the Frame Controls tab causes any render I make to crash consistently. I've done pretty much everything I can to try to fix this but it still persists. Removing the entire Final Cut Suite 3 contents and re-installing has no effect either. I really would like to be able to use this control, so if there's anyone out there with an answer I would definitely appreciate it!

I have the same problem, and haven't found a solution other than downgrading to compressor 3.5.0... that makes it stop crashing but the end result looks like the anti-alias wasn't applied... so no solution...

  • Disabling Intego Virus Barrier Real Time Scanning Solved my Problem

I was having terrible problems trying to get time capsule to work with my macbook pro until i permanently disabled Intego Virus X5 Barrier's Real Time Scanning. This solved my problem. Hopefully it might help somebody out there too.

Often times, considering how advanced malware has gotten, a System Restore will simply result in getting infected again. Most infections I've come across tend to occur months before they actually strike and are found. If they are one of those infections that slip in overnight (those JavaScript ones that slip in through Advertisements and infected search results), those tend to infect even the System Restore points. System Restore is a handy tool to have, but it isn't bulletproof.
When such issues happen, MalwareBytes Anti-Malware and SUPERAntiSpyware are wonderful, free pieces of software to have around. Best scanners out there for Malware that are updated daily. To be on the safe side before you start messing with the system anymore, download and install MalwareBytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org) along with SUPERAntiSpyware (http://www.superantispyware.com) and perform a full scan with both scanners. Clean out any infections found, reboot if needed, and then we can go from there to see why the Security Suite is acting up.
When you install the Verizon Internet Security Suite (McAfee under the hood), one of the first things it does is disables the built-in Windows Defender as well as the Windows Firewall, since the Security Suite includes a Firewall and a Spyware scanner with itself. Having two Firewalls and/or real-time scanners in operation can cause some rather nasty problems, besides dragging down system performace. So yes, if the security suite is installed, it's normal for Defender and Windows Firewall to be disabled. When the suite is removed, Defender and Windows Firewall should automatically be re-enabled.

When doing the reinstall the only 2 files i couldnt find were:
    ProMediaIO.pkg and Qmaster.pkg
Could these be causing any problems?

Basically you need to wipe the OS off the drive it lives on (you can use Disk Utility from the OS install disk to "erase" it) then reinstall your OS. Before you install FCP again make sure you update QT manually to version 7.2.1
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime72formac.html.
After you install this version software update will offer you the newer versions again (7.3), use the "ignore update" option in software update and TURN OFF automatic software updates so it doesn't install itself in the background in the future.
Speaking of future, you really should consider getting the newer version of FCS; as time goes on you'll have less and less compatibility with newer software/hardware and especially the newer formats now being offered that FCP 5 just isn't able to handle.

  • Send to compressor feature crashes compressor 4

Hi everyone. Totally new to this forum lark, so please go easy on me... I updated Final Cut Pro X to 10.0.4 as it was released, and along with it, updated Compressor 4 to the latest version. Since then I've been unable to use the 'Send to Compressor' feature to export my footage as when compressor opens, and I drag a preset onto my clip, I get the spinning beachball of death. (I note that the CPU is hardly being used - Viewing Activity Monitor). I then have to force-quit compressor. I am able to use compressor as a stand alone app - no problem. Simillarly, FCP-X allows export via the apple device presets within its own interface. Wondering if this is something anyone else has experienced since updating? I've removed the Qmaster  folder, and emptied the trash, even re-installed both FCPX and Compressor 4, plus repaired permission etc. Im using a Mac Pro 8 Core with 16gb RAM and OSX 10.6.8. Many thanks. Scott.

Thanks Andynick. Funny thing is I did a clean install of Snow Leopard about a week ago (Just as a house keeping exercise really). Everything else seems to be running well. That said, playback on FCPX started to slow and become choppy, audio was distorted too first thing this morning. I checked the Activity monitor and the system useage of the CPU had redlined! FCPX was using 1200% or some such silly amount. I restarted FCPX and all has been fine since. Not had that before either. If a clean install (again) is the only answer then so be it. Have a deadline for a production to complete tonight, so will carry on editing. I can export the completed vid, then drag that to compressor, and all is well. When compressing, the CPU does not get above 40% though, which seems strange - especially as I used qmaster to assign 8 clusters (Half my avail RAM as recommended). Ho-hum.

  • IMac G5 20" - Startup Disk Full Error Messages

    Hi,
I wonder if you can advise or help me please,?
I purchased my first Apple computer in December of last year (2005), a 20” iMac G5 with iSight Camera built in. I also had an extra 1 GB Ram added at the same time.
This is my first experience with Apple computers, having previously only used either MS-DOS or various versions of Microsoft Windows. The last 6 weeks have been a dream, and I have had no problems whatsoever, until now that is.
My hard drive as supplied is a 250 GB one, and apart from the operating system and applications supplied with the computer, (OS X Tiger 10.4, + Appleworks and iLife 5 etc.) I have installed the following major software: Microsoft Word 2004, Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium (comprises Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat Professional, In Design and GoLive) as well as Intego VirusBarrier, Intego Net Barrier, and Intego Backup.
This has left me with approximately 170 GB on my hard disk.
I imported some 30 audio book CD’s into my iTunes collection over the past weekend, which I imported, in AAC format at a bitrate of 40 kbps, (which is all that is required for spoken word audio) which takes up a total of around 630MB in size. When I went to close iTunes I received a system warning stating that my ‘Start-up’ disk was nearly full and that I need to remove some files. I was very surprised to see this, because I knew I should have around 170 GB left - give or take a gigabyte.
I closed the system down completely, and left it for about an hour and then rebooted. Instead of the normal nice quiet start-up I normally experience with the iMac, it ‘roared’ like a jet engine!
I can only surmise it was the systems fans going into overdrive, but it was very alarming. It took about ten minutes to settle, and then went back to its normal quiet self. But when I checked the amount of disk space it said I had about 100 MB (MB not GB) free, and then after a few minutes this number climbed rapidly until it reported I had my expected 170 GB free.
So I though that was the end of it, but when I ran the system again this evening although it started up just fine this time, and had the 170 GB free, after I had left it for a couple of hours it then reported that my Start-up disk was nearly full again!
I then went though the same procedure and series of events I have just outlined above except that the system did not ‘roar’ as it did the first time.
All system files have been kept up to date with the use of Autoupdate, and were last checked four days ago, and my version of OS X is 10.4.4
As I am at a loss to explain what is happening, and as I am not knowledgeable on the Mac OS X operating system, I thought you might be able to advise me. I apologise if this is not the correct forum, but I thought it was the most appropriate one.
    Thanks and Kind Regards

    20' iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1 GB Ram + Adobe Creative Suite Premium 2
    20' iMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi Dr Smoke!
Many many thanks for your swift reply, it is really appreciated.
I looked at the Console utility you suggested via your link instructions (very helpful) and found in the System.log that there were indeed whole swaths of repeating messages relating to Adobe Acrobat 7 stating:
".../Users/andrew/Applications/Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional/Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Professional.app/Contents/MacOS/Acrobat: Invalid color: colored pattern specified with uncolored pattern colorspace...."
With regards to Adobe Creative Suite, although I paid the upgrade price from Adobe CS1 to CS2, it is in fact the full package and not an upgrade software package because my previous version (CS1) and earlier versions of Photoshop etc were all on the Windows platform. Because of this I had to go through nearly a month of faxes, emails and submissions of 'Letters of Destruction' before Adobe would allow me to move platforms, and send me a full version of CS2 for OS X.
During installation last Friday night, I went through all the on-line ‘updates’ it suggested and therefore thought it was all up to date.
I therefore opened Acrobat 7 to check its version and found that it was v 7.0 so using the ‘check for updates’ menu link I have updated it to v 7.05.
Hopefully, that should now put an end to the problem.
I have also downloaded demos of the two programs you provided links to, and will monitor the situation as you suggested.
I have marked this post as having been answered, but should I have any further occurrences of this problem, I will return another post.
Thanks again for your help and links

  • OS X Tiger installation

Help! I think I've messed up. I just got my OS X Tiger upgrade pack and launched straight into installing (I did do a back up first) without checking out the discussions to see what I should do to prepare. It seems to have caused a few problems. Firstly I couldn't finish the Setup Assistant after installing as the install wiped all my wireless settings so I had to do a reboot to get that going again. Then when I had restarted I couldn't find the Setup Assistant anywhere to go through it properly. I am also now having problems with Intego Net Barrier which isn't launching when I start up and gives me a Diagnostics error message when I start up saying it could not load the login file.
I suspect I am going to find other problems as I try to launch applications.
Is there anything I can do to get things working properly again.
    Thanks
    Vivien

The available option you used/selected is "Upgrade Mac OS X" which is an easy or simple upgrade but regardless, the Setup Assistant should be provided or is only provided when turning on a new Mac purchase or when performing an Erase & Install of any OS X version.
Assuming you didn't check the hard drive for any directoy problems with Disk First Aid repair via Disk Utilities when booted from the Tiger install disc and/or you didn't disconnect any external peripheral devices except for an external keyboard and mouse (if used with your TiBook), check Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption for system troubleshooting procedures and when doing so, follow all steps/instructions in the order provided.
Is it also safe to assume you didn't create a backup of all important data before installing Tiger which should always be the first step before installing a major OS Upgrade such as Tiger and before installing any major OS Update to Tiger?

  • How can I make Thunderbird 31.4.0 always open with Inbox? The add-on "select Inbox" does not always work!

Starting with TB 31.2 - some four months ago - I have not been able to open TB to the Inbox. I downloaded the "Select INbox" add on many times (and disabled/removed as many times) but it does not work consistently. When it does finally work I have no idea why. And then the next time, it doesn't work again!

I still have this problem. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. This morning TB opened to the Inbox but I have little confidence that it will do that again.
In earlier post I already replied that I don't have CCleaner on my computer. I also have not downloaded any programs since I began to have this problem.
Now I wonder if the Intego Net Barrier and Virus Barrier could be having a negative influence. I've been using these for years and have not changed their settings in any way for years. If they could be the reason that the settings are erased between TB starts what should I do?
You can probably tell that I only use my computer and do not understand anything about programming, etc.! I need complete, step-by-step explanations for a computer dummy.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Whats a good ANTI-VIRUS program?

    Hello iCommunity!
I just purchased my very first Mac: Intel based iMac, 24in monitor, 2.4 gHz Intel 2 Duo Core.
My question is: Do I need to purchase an antivirus software program like Norton Antivirus? And if so, which on is the best one for my money and for Macs?
Coming from the PC world, having no antivirus program is a death sentence waiting to happen... so I dont know if I need one for my Mac.
PS: I dont think Im EVER going back to PCs!!!

    hi
welcome to the Mac world, its true that you don't need to be looking over your shoulder for viruses like you would with a pc but if you want piece of mind you probably should put something on, esp. if your running microsoft office for mac etc. i have to have a pc for work and since i'm bringing files from that to my Mac to work on at home i installed some anti virus software.
You could try the free one that was in the last message, me personally i bought intego net barrier X4 (it has virus barrier built in) to use on my iBook , and i made one mistake i tried norton security on my iMac and it gave me nothing but grief. I had to reinstall it at least 5 times and it still wouldn't work. i got in touch with norton and the best they told me was to try reinstall it and update it straight away which i did but it still would not work, so even with just 2 months of my subscription gone i uninstalled it and bought intego net barrier X5 (which i should have done from the start) and i haven't had a problem since.
try the free one if you want just to see or if you want to have a look at what intego offer here's their web address.

    welcome again
