Intego virrusbarrier problems 10.6.2 snow leopard

Ok, so since i installed virus barrier, the program has been a resource hog. I mean at times it is taking up to 600 MB, but typically when i'm having issues it's around 370MB. That is a crazy amount of memory!
So that is not the issue. When i'm working in pretty much all the applications i use daily. (word, excel, powerpoint, photoshop, inDesign etc) All of a sudden i'll get the spinning beach ball and program become non responsive.
I force quit virusbarrier and problem solved. (at least for 5-10 minutes, then it does exactly the same thing.
I've added indesign, photoshop etc to the trusted list not to scan, but it doesnt help. (I will not add microsoft crap because that's the reason i have the antivirus software. Adding it to the trusted list defeats the purpurse)
So I contact intego several times. The send new update, doesn't work. Send a program to run a report when it happens and I've sent them like 6 reports and have not heard back from them... I'm pisssed with this software.
It is just so buggy, that I don't know how they can let it out of their testing?
Someone please tell me how to fix it. I have to have anti virus because i'm on a network with PCs. So please don't tell me mac never get viruses etc. I've had them.
I've tried so many of the usual fixed. (i've had mac since 2000) and nothing is working. Any help is appreciated.

Now that was the type of a productive solution i was looking for! lol
I realize the program is turning out to be garbage and there are better solutions. I appreciate the input from most people.
If i get an update from Intego I will post.
Something that people should know, if searching for help on the problem. (the real reason i posted, so people who search would have a reference) is to pay attention to your activity monitor if you use Intego products.
If you get a non-responsive program, check that and see if virusbarrier is spiking. Mine is in the 300-400MB range when the problems occur. Yo can force quit virrusbarrier and that has solved my problems temporarily.
It gets worse the longer you have a program open, say word, or powerpoint.
That was the kind of helpful information i wanted. (force quit virrusbarrier) maybe quit another program or process and the problem is lessened or whatever. Not Macs don't get viruses or I'm not listening to people.
I don't post much on here because I don't have that many problems i can't solve, but I've been on here a long time. Longer that people who have to comment for what seems like nothing more than to boost you post number.
I appreciate the help from most.

I had hacker problems so I reloaded Snow Leopard. Afterwards, Mac had to delete 798 items. Now it is looping on 4 items to delete for the past 2 weeks. I can't reboot, reload, or restart. I have to let the battery run down for it to turn off. I think a big part of the problem is that someon one the internet (the hacker) was mirroring my hard drive. It seems to have locked up my system. I could be wrong about this guess, though. All I do know is that it is now looping on the last 4 iems, and I can't do anything.
Well, I can get it to turn on, but all it does is continously try to delete the last 4 items. When I try to reload Snow Leopard, it tells me my hard drive is full and that I need to delete items.
Can anyone help? I am so lost without my Mac. I am back on the PC, and though it works, I'm sure many of you will understand when I say it's just not a Mac.
    Thanks.

I installed Snow Leopard using my Apple external Superdrive. I followed directions I found on the Apple site. Here is the article info:  Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install
                     Article HT3910
                     located at: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3910
Everything was going smoothly until I got to the reinstall part. I had to choose to reinstall on a hard drive or network drive. I've never used a network drive; just the hard drive. It seems that's where the troubles began. I selected the hard drive. It seemed to go well, and then I got the message that I needed to delete some files because I was out of space. I chose to get rid of my music files, but, there were only 636. I don't know what the rest of the files were. I was using the Secure Empty Trash command.
That was my first time doing an erase and install. I tried to do it again, but I now get a continuous error telling me that my hard drive is full and I must delete files. Only I can't delete files because 4 files are still being deleted and my computer won't let me stop the process.
I found out about the hackers mostly by the fact that whenever I used to watch something like Hulu or Netflix, I never had problems with internet connection or speed. Lately, I had internet connection problems. I went in to check my settings for my internet provider and found out the settings had been changed to public and all these extra computers were connected to my network.

why am i having problems since changing from snow leopard downloading maverick

Yes you solved your own question, use printer handles color, whcih shodul have been the default. If you do want to experiment with Photohsop manages color, try the CMYK profiles, and send a cmyk file. Only exception is if you print to one of the few RGB printers like a lambda.

  • Problem after upgrading to Snow Leopard from Tiger

    Hello all!
I have an old macbook pro 15" purchased on 2007. It's model is macbookpro3,1 and it runs Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11. Recently I upgrade the system to Snow Leopard. Everything seems to be fine except the laptop runs much hotter.
At first I don't know why but then I found out that on the Energy Saver menu, there is no options to select between the intel onboard graphics card and nVidia 8600M GT. And it seems the system selects the 8600M GT as the default card, therefore my GPU temperature is always about 60 Celsius degree.
Another problem is the Airport card is also hot, it's always about 60C degree (according to iStat Pro)
So anybody has same problem with me? It'd be great if you could help me figuring out these issues.
    Thanks a lot!!!

Are you sure there is an Intel onboard graphics processor in your MacBook Pro? AFAIK, Mac laptops do not have multiple graphics processors -- MBP's have a single fairly powerful one with dedicated video memory & regular MacBooks have only a somewhat less powerful one that use shared system memory.
For example, the MacBook Pro (Mid 2007, 2.4/2.2GHz) Technical Specifications make no mention of an Intel GPU.

  • HP deskjet F735 scanning problem after upgrading to Snow Leopard

I just upgraded my mac to snow leopard and after which my hP all in one doesn't work as it use to be. I don't have problems regarding printing and photocopying. It's the scanning that I had a problem. The photosmart doesn't work anymore and if I use preview, print& fax from system preferences and image capture still it does not scan and even i select the scanner. A message will just popped up that there is no device selected or unknown error occured. pls. help. and thank you

    vive,
If you can't get Scanning running with the In-OS solution, a full Snow Leopard compatible solution is available [here|http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=al- 75095-1&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&product=3457028&os=219&lang=en].
Let me know if that doesn't solve your problem.
    Just trying to help.

  • Font problem with MX under Snow Leopard

Anybody know what might cause an app built with Director MX not to display an installed (not embedded) custom font under Snow Leopard?
The program was built quite some time ago but was tested under previous Mac OS X.x versions and worked fine. What might have changed that could cause this problem?
Complicating this is that I don't have Snow Leopard myself to test it directly, but here's what I do know:
The font is definitely installed and available to other apps.
Everything else about the app works fine.

I noticed the same jumbled text problem.
When I went to look at Font Book, I see that those fonts are no longer installed. It must've happened when I loaded Snow Leopard last weekend.
Anyway, I went to reinstall fonts, and I see I've got a bunch that got uninstalled. But when I try to reinstall them, like Calisto and Caligula to name the first couple I tried, Font Book reports that there were serious errors when trying to load them.
Does anyone have insights into the vague message: "System Validation" as the serious problem? I don't see a way to get more details about the problem than that.

  • Problems saving files in Snow Leopard

I've just upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard (I know I'm a dinosaur...) and am now having major problems saving Appleworks files.
When I'm doing corrections, I sometimes need to save a file over 10 times and my helpful "Do you want to replace this file?" box has gone and instead it's saving as a new file and adding another 'full stop' at the end of the file name.  It's driving me nuts!
Is there any way to get back to just over-writing the file?
    Any help gratefully received...
    Thanks
    Take care
    Marianne

This is turning out to be really crazy. I haven't added any third party application at all.
Last night I tried Roger's 'command-S' and it worked on a different document I opened.  I tried the same document, changed it, 'Saved As' and it asked me if I wanted to over-write the file.
I then opened the original document I was having trouble with, hit 'Save As' and the same thing happened; it just made multiple copies of the file.  It seems to be a problem with this particular client and all his files; unfortunately, he's the client I do the most work for.
Now I don't know why it's happening on some documents and not on others.
Any further ideas?  Can I do something to this client's files, re-save them or whatever, so I don't have this problem?
    Thanks again...

  • Problems with FCP after Snow Leopard Installation

I'm editing canon 5d footage in FCP. I use MPEG Streamclip to properly convert the footage before importing to fcp. Everything was working absolutely fine until I installed snow leopard.  Now, all of the clips in the timeline have those weird lines as if I imported the footage without converting it.  I have a deadline and if I have to re-edit this entire project it's not going to be pretty.  I have installed all of the updates for FCP and Snow Leopard.  I tried a test by creating a new batch in MPEG streamclip and the footage is fine. It appears that I might have to re-edit everything.   Can someone PLEASE offer some assistance?  I can't afford to re-edit this project.
    Thank you

Yes... I am aware of the canon plug in for converting 5d/7d footage.  I either use that plug in or MPEG stream clip and they both have been working fine.   "Properly" meaning... FCP does not recognize H.264 (5d and 7d) therefor we need to convert the video using either MPEG stream clip or the free canon plug in.  The best codec to edit this footage is ProRes 422LT  ProRes422 - I only use the 5d and or 7d cameras for my projects and have been editing this way for some time without any problems what so ever.  The problems immediately arose after upgrading to Snow Leopard. The problem lies in my EXISTING FCP projects that are already in the works.  I am still able to convert footage for new projects without a problem.  I am using the latest updated versions of SL and FCP. I did the following to trouble shoot:
    1. Did a clean reinstall of FCP - STILL HAPPENING
    2. On an existing project I deleted a few of the problem clips.  Took the original and converted it again using MPEG Stream clip.  Renamed it and from the FCP project, I located the new clip.  SAME PROBLEM
    3. On an existing project, I deleted a few of the clips completely. Converted the original again using MPEG SC.  Imported the entire new clip in FCP, re-edited it and dragged it into the time line.  NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    4. Opened a new project in FCP.   Took some of the original problematic clips.  Converted them using MPEG SC. Dragged into the timeline.  NO PROBLEM, WORKS FINE
    5. Played both the original clips (before conversion) and the converted clips in Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    6.  Exported part of a problematic project to Quick Time - NO PROBLEM WORKS FINE
    7. Opened up one of the same projects from the same hard drive on my other mac (Mac Book Pro) and there are NO PROBLEMS.  THEY WORK FINE
Based on everything I've listed above, the problem seems to be happening in the Viewer  and Canvas on my I-Mac which I just upgraded to Snow Leopard.  The exported projects are fine.  Am I to assume that I should continue working with these existing projects and everything will be fine?  I've spoke to 5 or 6 friends that are experienced and no one can come up with an answer.

  • X11 problem after upgrade to Snow Leopard - keyboard unresponsive

I have just upgraded to Snow Leopard from Tiger.
I use Sun's Secure Global Desktop native client which runs using X11. It worked fine under Tiger, but since the upgrade it isn't working - the native client starts up (and starts the X server), it responds to the trackpad and I can focus on the login box, but when I type nothing shows up, so I can't log in!
I installed X11 with Snow Leopard and as far as I can tell it is running OK - Gimp seems to work. The SGD native client log says this:
    Smart card library loaded: /System/Library/Frameworks/PCSC.framework/PCSC
Smart card support failed to initialize (0x8010001d)
    Server version 4 3 0 915
    Client version 4 2 0 983
    Info: local X server available
Any assistance would be very gratefully received.

If other X11 apps are working except this one, then perhaps it's incompatible with Snow. To see if this is the case I would suggest installing Snow on a freshly erased drive (could be an external or other internal) and see if the problem is fixed. Could be the result of upgrading. You did upgrade Leopard, not Tiger, right? Can't do the latter without first upgrading to Leopard.

  • Problem with airport after snow leopard upgrade.

I know there are several threads about this already but none of the "answers" to those threads fix my problem. I just upgraded snow leopard and installed the new update. Since then I can connect to my wifi, but nothing will load. My airport says that I am connected and that I have a full signal, but whenever I open my internet browser (firefox, safari), nothing will load, it just stays on the screen that says "loading" at the top. I've tried deleting the "Automatic" airport option and creating my own but that has not worked. Any suggestions as to how to fix this?? Right now the only way i can access the internet is be plugging directly into the router.

    Hi swftrules,
It's probably worth trying just to ensure that the issue is (or isn't) location specific. Preferably to go somewhere that you've never connected before and has free WiFi without crazy encryption. An Apple Store is a great location to try.
If it does work at the new location, I'd be inclined to reset the router and set it back up (open network) and see if that works and then add encryption from there.
If it doesn't work at the new location, then I'd consider reloading the OS if you've already tried the new network location.

  • Problems with AW in Snow Leopard

I am having multiple problems with AW, particularly graphics, under snow leopard.  Sometimes, while working on an existing file, the whole thing locks up forceing me to Force Quit the application thus losing whatever changes I had made.  Other times when I open a file to work on it, several features are so slow as to be unausable.  I am not really using the WP or Spreadsheet anymore as I have migrated most of those AW files to iWork so not sure if anything is happening in that regard.  Has anyone thought about the possibility of orphaning the two graphics parts of AW so they can be used independently?
    Sparkgapper

Since I DO NOT use pict or tiff as my mode of fileing, it is no problem whatsoever for ANY graphics program to open jpg, my preferred format.  Secondly, it is quite easy to open a pict file in AW then copy/paste it into just about any graphics format - this is my second method where necessary.
While AW Graphics has "aged" it retained the user friendly interface of all Apple programs of that era whereas now the steep learning curve is drastically restricting many "Entry Level" program to those who are required by their work to make that kind of effort.  Then add to that the "Evolution" of some programs whereby they all but forever archive older documents by their inability to use parts of the older formatting and formulas.
My graphics use capability is quite simple, usually working with images of ancient genealogical documents for transcription or old maps that have been scanned poorly, plus photos (jpeg) of these same objects.  As such, I do not need a "Full Blown" application but something more on the lines of AW Graphics and Paint - I used to transition between the two for certain types of manipulations.

  • Migration problem, MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard, iMac with Lion

My husband just got a new iMac with Lion, and is trying to transfer the contents from his MacBook Pro, which runs Snow Leopard.  After an unsuccessful wifi attempt, he ended up hooking his Time Capsule backup of his MacBook Pro to his new iMac.  It seemed to work at first, but he's been experiencing computer squirrelly-ness.  Icons and letters move without his directing them to (through either a Bluetooth trackpad, or a plug-in trackball he tried).  I think both computers, both the sending and receiving, need the same operating system.  Is this correct?  He's trying to avoid buying Lion for the old MacBook, if possible.  Thanks!

Thank you, Joe!  As it turned out, my husband was able to resolve the problem by running some repair utilities and upgrading other software on his new iMac to be compatible with Lion, so he didn't get a chance to try your suggestion.  That would have been his next step, and we appreciate your help.

  • QT_WriteObject problem in Safari only, Snow Leopard

Can someone help me display my H.264 movie on a web page?
I have a H.264 encoded file which will not consistently play in Safari under Snow Leopard using QT_WriteObject. It does play in Firefox and XP/ IE 7, and will play in Safari if you give it the .mov file directly. I have 3 computers running Snow Leopard, and one of them, an iMac, will sometimes play the file. I booted the iMac into Leopard and it played the first time. The quicktime plugin shows as 7.6.3 in Snow Leopard.
I have tried various combinations of the parameters for QT_WriteObject. I think the movie is 640 x 480 . I have added a little to the vertical so that the controller will show completely in Firefox.
Here is the html I am currently using. The file is at tnwheeler.com/alaska1.html. There are no errors in the error console.
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN"

    Trip to Alaska in 1993
This movie is in standard definition.
At this time, this movie will not show in Safari. Please use Firefox.
    <script language="javascript">
    QTWriteOBJECT('http://tnwheeler.com/alaskafinal.mov' , '640', '500', '',"autoplay","true","bgcolor","#000000") ;
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>

Thank you for your helpful suggestions. I tried them both, in fact they are up there now, but no improvement. PageOT is a nice program. Actually, I started with the straight <embed> statements because they had always worked for me before. But I went to QT_WriteObject before posting because I thought people would say to try it.
I noticed your OS is listed as 10.5? Is this still correct? If so, that may be why it works for you. I booted to an old version of Leopard, and it worked fine. All of my other videos work in Snow Leopard/Safari except for this one. It was created in the same way- exported from FinalCut (latest version) and then taken into DVKitchen for the H.264. Most , if not all, of the others are hidef, whereas this one is standard def.
I think it is either a problem in how it was created (not by me, so I can't do much about that) or Safari under Snow Leopard. But the fact that it will play from the url, but not from the embed statements really has me puzzled.

  • Printer problem after upgrade to Snow Leopard

My trusty HP Deskjet 1200C printer keeps giving an error now I have upgraded to Snow Leopard (on the way to Lion for iCloud). I checked for an upgraded driver on the HP site but there doesn't seem to be one after OS 10.6
I am getting this error - PrintJobMgr failed
Any suggestions welcome and advice for what will and won't work with Lion.
    Thanks

Try to restart, see if problem still happens.
If it does.. remove printer (and other periferals) from the computer and do an SMC reset. Also unplug your printer's power as well to rest it too.
    Also, do a PRAM reset.
Let us know how it goes.
