Intego x8 bundle ruined my life. Help

Hello,
Installed intego bundle x8
Cant access any websites!!! Help

1. This is a comment on what you should—and should not—do to protect yourself from malicious software ("malware") that circulates on the Internet and gets onto a computer as an unintended consequence of the user's actions. It does not apply to software, such as keystroke loggers, that may be installed deliberately by an intruder who has hands-on access to the computer, or who has been able to log in to it remotely. That threat is in a different category, and there's no easy way to defend against it.
If you find this comment too long or too technical, read only sections 5, 6, and 10.
OS X now implements three layers of built-in protection specifically against malware, not counting runtime protections such as execute disable, sandboxing, system library randomization, and address space layout randomization that may also guard against other kinds of exploits.
2. All versions of OS X since 10.6.7 have been able to detect known Mac malware in downloaded files, and to block insecure web plugins. This feature is transparent to the user. Internally Apple calls it "XProtect."
The malware recognition database used by XProtect is automatically updated; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders.
The following caveats apply to XProtect:
It can be bypassed by some third-party networking software, such as BitTorrent clients and Java applets.
It only applies to software downloaded from the network. Software installed from a CD or other media is not checked.
As new versions of OS X are released, it's not clear whether Apple will indefinitely continue to maintain the XProtect database of older versions such as 10.6. The security of obsolete system versions may eventually be degraded. Security updates to the code of obsolete systems will stop being released at some point, and that may leave them open to other kinds of attack besides malware.
   3. Starting with OS X 10.7.5, there has been a second layer of built-in malware protection, designated "Gatekeeper" by Apple. By default, applications and Installer packages downloaded from the network will only run if they're digitally signed by a developer with a certificate issued by Apple. Software certified in this way hasn't necessarily been tested by Apple, but you can be reasonably sure that it hasn't been modified by anyone other than the developer. His identity is known to Apple, so he could be held legally responsible if he distributed malware. That may not mean much if the developer lives in a country with a weak legal system (see below.)
Gatekeeper doesn't depend on a database of known malware. It has, however, the same limitations as XProtect, and in addition the following:
It can easily be disabled or overridden by the user.
A malware attacker could get control of a code-signing certificate under false pretenses, or could simply ignore the consequences of distributing codesigned malware.
An App Store developer could find a way to bypass Apple's oversight, or the oversight could fail due to human error.
Apple has so far failed to revoke the codesigning certificates of some known abusers, thereby diluting the value of Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. These failures don't involve App Store products, however.
For the reasons given, App Store products, and—to a lesser extent—other applications recognized by Gatekeeper as signed, are safer than others, but they can't be considered absolutely safe. "Sandboxed" applications may prompt for access to private data, such as your contacts, or for access to the network. Think before granting that access. Sandbox security is based on user input. Never click through any request for authorization without thinking.
4. Starting with OS X 10.8.3, a third layer of protection has been added: a "Malware Removal Tool" (MRT). MRT runs automatically in the background when you update the OS. It checks for, and removes, malware that may have evaded the other protections via a Java exploit (see below.) MRT also runs when you install or update the Apple-supplied Java runtime (but not the Oracle runtime.) Like XProtect, MRT is effective against known threats, but not against unknown ones. It notifies you if it finds malware, but otherwise there's no user interface to MRT.
5. The built-in security features of OS X reduce the risk of malware attack, but they are not, and never will be, complete protection. Malware is a problem of human behavior, and a technological fix is not going to solve it. Trusting software to protect you will only make you more vulnerable.
The best defense is always going to be your own intelligence. With the possible exception of Java exploits, all known malware circulating on the Internet that affects a fully-updated installation of OS X 10.6 or later takes the form of so-called "Trojan horses," which can only have an effect if the victim is duped into running them. The threat therefore amounts to a battle of wits between you and the scam artists. If you're smarter than they think you are, you'll win. That means, in practice, that you always stay within a safe harbor of computing practices. How do you know when you're leaving the safe harbor? Below are some warning signs of danger.
Software from an untrustworthy source
Software of any kind is distributed via BitTorrent. or Usenet, or on a website that also distributes pirated music or movies.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, doesn't come directly from the developer’s website. Do not trust an alert from any website to update Flash, your browser, or anything else.
Rogue websites such as Softonic and CNET Download distribute free applications that have been packaged in a superfluous "installer."
The software is advertised by means of spam or intrusive web ads. Any ad, on any site, that includes a direct link to a download should be ignored.
Software that is plainly illegal or does something illegal
High-priced commercial software such as Photoshop is "cracked" or "free."
An application helps you to infringe copyright, for instance by circumventing the copy protection on commercial software, or saving streamed media for reuse without permission.
Conditional or unsolicited offers from strangers
A telephone caller or a web page tells you that you have a “virus” and offers to help you remove it. (Some reputable websites did legitimately warn visitors who were infected with the "DNSChanger" malware. That exception to this rule no longer applies.)
A web site offers free content such as video or music, but to use it you must install a “codec,” “plug-in,” "player," "downloader," "extractor," or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown one.
You win a prize in a contest you never entered.
Someone on a message board such as this one is eager to help you, but only if you download an application of his choosing.
A "FREE WI-FI !!!" network advertises itself in a public place such as an airport, but is not provided by the management.
Anything online that you would expect to pay for is "free."
Unexpected events
You open what you think is a document and get an alert that it's "an application downloaded from the Internet." Click Cancel and delete the file. Even if you don't get the alert, you should still delete any file that isn't what you expected it to be.
An application does something you don't expect, such as asking for permission to access your contacts, your location, or the Internet for no obvious reason.
Software is attached to email that you didn't request, even if it comes (or seems to come) from someone you trust.
I don't say that leaving the safe harbor just once will necessarily result in disaster, but making a habit of it will weaken your defenses against malware attack. Any of the above scenarios should, at the very least, make you uncomfortable.
   6. Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was always a bad idea, and Java's developers have proven themselves incapable of implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style virus affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful.
Fortunately, client-side Java on the Web is obsolete and mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice. Forget about playing games or other non-essential uses of Java.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it—not JavaScript—in your browsers.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a task on a specific site, enable Java only for that site in Safari. Never enable Java for a public website that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, login-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site.
Stay within the safe harbor, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can practically be. The rest of this comment concerns what you should not do to protect yourself.
7. Never install any commercial "anti-virus" (AV) or "Internet security" products for the Mac, as they are all worse than useless. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use one of the free security apps in the Mac App Store—nothing else.
Why shouldn't you use commercial AV products?
To recognize malware, the software depends on a database of known threats, which is always at least a day out of date. This technique is a proven failure, as a major AV software vendor has admitted. Most attacks are "zero-day"—that is, previously unknown. Recognition-based AV does not defend against such attacks, and the enterprise IT industry is coming to the realization that traditional AV software is worthless.
Its design is predicated on the nonexistent threat that malware may be injected at any time, anywhere in the file system. Malware is downloaded from the network; it doesn't materialize from nowhere. In order to meet that nonexistent threat, commercial AV software modifies or duplicates low-level functions of the operating system, which is a waste of resources and a common cause of instability, bugs, and poor performance.
By modifying the operating system, the software may also create weaknesses that could be exploited by malware attackers.
Most importantly, a false sense of security is dangerous.
8. An AV product from the App Store, such as "ClamXav," has the same drawback as the commercial suites of being always out of date, but it does not inject low-level code into the operating system. That doesn't mean it's entirely harmless. It may report email messages that have "phishing" links in the body, or Windows malware in attachments, as infected files, and offer to delete or move them. Doing so will corrupt the Mail database. The messages should be deleted from within the Mail application.
An AV app is not needed, and cannot be relied upon, for protection against OS X malware. It's useful, if at all, only for detecting Windows malware, and even for that use it's not really effective, because new Windows malware is emerging much faster than OS X malware.
Windows malware can't harm you directly (unless, of course, you use Windows.) Just don't pass it on to anyone else. A malicious attachment in email is usually easy to recognize by the name alone. An actual example:
London Terror Moovie.avi [124 spaces] Checked By Norton Antivirus.exe
You don't need software to tell you that's a Windows trojan. Software may be able to tell you which trojan it is, but who cares? In practice, there's no reason to use recognition software unless an institutional policy requires it. Windows malware is so widespread that you should assume it's in every email attachment until proven otherwise. Nevertheless, ClamXav or a similar product from the App Store may serve a purpose if it satisfies an ill-informed network administrator who says you must run some kind of AV application. It's free and it won't handicap the system.
The ClamXav developer won't try to "upsell" you to a paid version of the product. Other developers may do that. Don't be upsold. For one thing, you should not pay to protect Windows users from the consequences of their choice of computing platform. For another, a paid upgrade from a free app will probably have all the disadvantages mentioned in section 7.
9. It seems to be a common belief that the built-in Application Firewall acts as a barrier to infection, or prevents malware from functioning. It does neither. It blocks inbound connections to certain network services you're running, such as file sharing. It's disabled by default and you should leave it that way if you're behind a router on a private home or office network. Activate it only when you're on an untrusted network, for instance a public Wi-Fi hotspot, where you don't want to provide services. Disable any services you don't use in the Sharing preference pane. All are disabled by default.
10. As a Mac user you don't have to live in fear that your computer may be infected every time you install software, read email, or visit a web page. But neither should you assume that you will always be safe from exploitation, no matter what you do. The greatest harm done by security software is precisely its selling point: it makes people feel safe. They may then feel safe enough to take risks from which the software doesn't protect them. Nothing can lessen the need for safe computing practices.

  • My iphone is deleting ical entries and thereby ruining my life. help!

Randomly entries get deleted from my iphone or ical. It's hard to tell exactly what is causing it as it's very random but it definitely is not my imagination. A couple of weeks ago it deleted half term. This weekend it deleted one of my best friend's birthday. I thought perhaps it was because I had checked the 'do not sync events older than 30 days box' so I unchecked that but it made absolutely no difference. If anything the problem has got worse, not better. All suggestions gratefully received!

    Hi,
The iSync application controls syncing on your Mac, if the issue was caused by the iPhone being synced Resetting the Sync History will most likely resolve it.

If there is an issue with the software on the iPhone a reset or restore will generally resolve that issue.

Sorry to hear about your collections mishap, just keep in mind this is a peer to peer forum for customers and you likely will not receive the help you are looking for from Verizon.
Now you say that the account went to collections and you have paid it. So at this point I am not sure what you can negotiate anymore. I've read that if you have something in collections and tell the collecting company that you will pay them if they remove the negative mark from your credit, they will negotiate it with you.
In this situation, if things are as you say and you did not receive the final bill at the correct address, then you may have an argument to take to the credit bureaus. I would file a report with the credit bureaus and see where that takes me, also once your account goes to collections to my knowledge it doesn't have anything to do with Verizon anymore. The debt is between you and the collections company. I would try to contact them and see if you can somehow negotiate having the collection removed from your credit report seeing as the debt has been settled and the bill was never sent to your correct address.
I haven't really ever dealt with an account in collections, so this is just some helpful information I have thought of, if anything is not accurate in how you can deal with this, I apologize.

Does the iPod connect to other networks?
If you restored to factory settings/new iPod and still does not connect to any network that indicates a hardware problem.
If you only can't connect to your network that indicates a problem with your network.

  • Help - Font issues are ruining my life.

I need help in getting my fonts under control. There are hundreds of them buried in my system, and they slow program launches down to a crawl. Every time I want to pick a new font to use, I'm confronted with menus that stretch to eternity. I've tried to turn them off in Font Book but it's taking hours trying to run down their location and then deciding which ones to disable. All I want to do is have a simple collection of maybe 12–15 fonts to use in my everyday work. If I could throw all of these usless fonts away I would do it in a second, but I'm afraid I'll dump something of importance. I know, I have a blind spot when it comes to understanding fonts in OS X. Are there any easy ways to regain my sanity?

  • HELP! Unlocked China Mobile Torch Ruining My Life

Sorry folks if this is an obvious one, or if I am posting in the wrong place.  Im a huge bberry fan (cant wait for the 10) but for now, stuck in China with my Torch.  The facts are thusly:
I have bought the China BIS package, the phone is unlocked, and it even reads EDGE in capital letters. Phone service works, so does internet.  Just not EMAILS.
When I go to set up an email it goes straight to existing users, asking for my username.  Ummm what would that be?  Four characters?  How do I get one of those?
Or when I go to mobile.blackberry.com and choose Communications, then Email, then Gmail (or anything else) and then "integrate," it says that my blackberry isnt registered on the network, but it HAS been!  I have gotten the registration confirmation email.
Phone and internet works, just not push email.  Or "internet email," not sure which is which.  I just cant set up emails to the phone, only GMAIL on the internet.
HELP ME!  I AM LOST ON PLANET CHINA!!!!!
    Thanks so much,
    Jon

  • Help! My fonts have ruined my life!

I purchased some fonts online and copied them over to my fonts folder under the library.
Since then my website fonts are clear and I can't read anything. I also seem to have done something to parallels because I can't flip over to Vista. Anyone know what I can do to fix this?
    Sean

Make sure that your fonts have been copied to your font folder in your user library folder and not the system font library folder.

  • PLEASE HELP!   I/O error message is ruining my life!

I am trying to export to QT an assembly sequence of my film and I keep getting an I/O error message around halfway through?
my files are save to a lacie drive and internal.
    any ideas?

When I had this problem before it was because of audio render files that kept goiong bad. You might want try trashing renders for the audio using the render manager. Try exporting and if it still doesn't work try trashing the video render files also. Oh and it wouldn't hurt to repair permissions somewhere along the way.
You say you have clips on an internal drive... You don't mean your system drive do you?

  • ICloud ruined my life- how can I escalate this case further!!!

The unthinkable has been hande to me by Apple.
iCloud corrupted 40% of my documents. Then 'reset' the remaining 60%
100% of my documents erased by Apple. This has taken 8 months of my life away, the apple care process has been woeful. So many Senior Advisors said they would 'take ownership of the case' and 'call me back'. Nothing, no call back- I am forced to call up again- explain the case again- be promised again by another Senior Advisor that they would 'take ownership of the case' and 'call me back'...
    I am left shattered.
This was a few months ago- i have lost huge amounts of irreplaceable research generated from over 2000 hours of my own personal work.
It was not backed up to my mac book as it was rendered inoperable when i 'upgraded' to OSX Lion.
I did all my work for 8 months on my ipad. All documents were created and stored locally on my ipad. I had no access to my LaCie external because my macbook was inoperable.
It was recommended by Apple Genius that I turn on icloud for Documents. iCloud then corrupted the documents and synced that corruption back to my documents locally stored on my ipad.
I could then see all the images in pages documents view. But could not open them- that was for about 40%of my documents. I could still access the other 60%
My account was then referred to the iCloud engineers. After a few weeks with no contact from apple I called up to chase up this loss of my documents- it had been going on for 7 weeks at this point.
The senior advisor told me that my account had been 'reset' and should be working fine now..
WHAT!!!! Reset!!!?????? so what about the 60% of docs that i had access to?
Gone. Deleted from the icloud account, synced back to my ipad.
    All Gone.\
If i had been contacted by the engineers. 'We cannot fix your corrupted documents. We propose to reset your account. That will erase all data and documents in your account. Is this ok? Please backup any documents you have on your ipad.'
This would have saved 60% of my 8 months research- which is a lot.
but no- no contact, just reset my account and erased my documents.
    its unbelieveable and unthinkable.
I am a MASSIVE apple fan- i have 22 Apple devices and tell everyone in my network that all my dreams have come true with Apple- ridiculing them for using other devices. It has now turned into a nightmare.
I WENT TO THE APPLE STORE IN SYDNEY IN DESPARATION- TO FIND OUT IF THERE WAS AN IMAGE OF THE DOCUMENTS SOMEWHERE/ANYWHERE!!! I KNOW THEY CAN ONLY CONTACT ICLOUD IN THE SAME WAY AS ME- BUT WHAT OPTIONS DID I HAVE- I COULDN'T ESCALATE THROUGH APPLE ANY HIGHER- THEY TOLD ME THAT THE SENIOR ADVISORS AND ENGINEERS WERE AS HIGH AS I COULD ESCALATE. SO I WENT TO THE APPLE STORE AND TOLD THEM THAT I WOULD NOT LEAVE THE STORE UNTIL IT WAS RESOLVED- THEY TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T HELP ME- I STAYED FOR 8 HOURS- AFTER 1.5 HOURS WE FOUDN OUT THAT THE ENGINEERS LIKENED TRYING TO RESTORE MY DOCUMENTS TO TRYING TO REBUILD A BURNT DOWN HOUSE.
We were about to release our energy saving App globally. I had a meltdown and just went away on holiday to New Zealand and Thailand with my kids- I couldn't face the reality of what i had to do to recover.
I came back to try and get back on track recently. My only way forward was to forget about it and start again.
    AND THEN!!!
I stupidly used pages on my ipad to edit a document from our development partner the other day. I opened my pages today, the document was there- then in front of my eyes all the documents shuffled around. Guess what- the doc I had edited disappeared.. In shock i called Apple Support. He asked me to check on icloud. com. 15 documents, not the one i want, advisor can see my doc- i cannot. I feel naseous.
THIS CASE HAD ALREADY GONE TOO FAR. BUT NOW I HAVE HAD ENOUGH!!!!!!
How can i escalate further? There must be a way. This is not acceptable! Apple are messing with my life!!!!! I'm losing too much time and money- it's just not fair at all. Something MUST be done by way of compensatiing for this series of errors!!!!

There's nothing anyone here can do for you, and I'm afraid I have little sympathy.
2000 hours of "irreplaceable work" and at no point during those 8 months did you think "Gee, I really should back up all these hugely important files just in case my iPad gets stolen, lost, breaks or some other disaster occurs"?
As soon as you noticed something was amiss, or even at the point when you still had access to 60% of your documents, why did you not take the opportunity to download a copy of them via iCloud.com (on any computer) and save them safely on a memory stick or other backup device?
Having just one copy of any file is asking for trouble. Backing up regularly is the No.1 rule of computing. Apple is not responsible for your lack of any backup routine. Apple advise you to backup regularly. Being able to backup your iPad should've been your motivation for spending an hour or two of those 2000 getting the MacBook up and running.

  • Trying to Install Bundle 13 please send help

How do I REALLY install Bundle 13?? in Photoshop Elements
Carla Messinger asked5 days ago, still hoping for an answer.  ANYONE-ANY IDEAS?
I have spent the better part of the week downloading & getting no where.  I've spent 10/21, 10/22 & 10/27 trying to get Chat help to no avail. I have at least 1 case number # 0186024139 but no one to give it to.
10/19 I first did the download with Akamai, it took hours, then  "Installer failed to initialize.  Download support adviser”.  When I click & go to the page it said the support adviser is no longer available!
10/20/14 I did as I was told & went to the download trial http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elements&loc=en&promoid=DJDV B, left the computer on all night downloading the Elements bundle, using the older installer, only to discover once again the "Installer failed message" and I already know that the support adviser is no longer available!
So what do I do???? I read through some pages on trouble shooting, I don't get error codes.  PLease give me some ideas to try.  Thank you for your time!

Be sure you are removing any bits of the failed installations, then try downloading from here:
Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 Direct Download Links, Premiere too | ProDesignTools
It's an adobe-sanctioned site, but you must follow the Very Important Instructions, even when they don't seem right.

  • Why is HP ruining my life? lost all my stock programs like office when they "fixed" it

i am sick of dealing with HP. i sent my computer in to get fixed and the audio is still bad and the driver STILL gets stuck and i have not only lost all my data in it (thank god for external hard drives) but the programs that came stock are gone...like my windows office! this is terrible. HP...i paid too much money for this kind of malarky about customer care. someone please actually help me? i wish i had never bought this computer. dislike....

Far too easily as they make no attempt to maintain your data or software as T&C state.
A standard procedure when the machine goes in for repair with intermitant faults or unclear desciption on faults is a factory restore so all your data gone along with Office starter too.
should be easy to get a copy of office 2007 & even 2010 as many low cost promotions can be found & it is far better than the starter. you may even find you have office 2003 bundled on a cd free as I have in the past & it is still a good usable suite.
It is frustrating but quite normal unfortunatly.
Once your setup & runing well worth doing some homework on cloning of main OS partions as makes problems like these obsolete.
Another option is requesting to keep the hard drive (if not a suspected fault) thus preserves your setup & personal data security. Standard procedure with Lenovo service & repair is for customer to keep hard drive & it saves a lot of complaints & hasle for both parties ...

  • Is my iPod ruined? Please help as soon as possible!

Help! Earlier today I loaded a few songs from my iPod and then did not do anything with it for a couple of hours. I went to listen to it and my iPod would not start. I plugged it into my computer but my computer will not say it is plugged it. My iPod screen will not turn on. I have tried to reset my iPod and the Apple Logo will not appear. I have tried to Restore but it says "Please Plug in iPod". The Hold Button is off, also. What is wrong with my iPod? I have combed through the Help boards but they just say to do the 5 "F's". What should I do? Is it ruined? It's not even seven months old! Please help!!

I upgraded to an Ipod after my shuffle had to be returned and NOW I am a little frustrated with this latest hiccup. So, after diconnecting my ipod from a PC, after charging it, there was all of a sudden no "Menu"- the ipod could play music but I couldn't see anything on the screen. Yes, I tried to reset (hold off and on, etc) then reinstall software and then restore to original settings. Thought this would solve the problem but NOW I cannot transfer the songs from itunes to my ipod. Every time I do I get an error message that says: "The Ipod cannot update. The disc could not be read from or written to." SO I have no music and I cannot see anything on the screen. Nada.
    Help, I love my Ipod!

  • The mousepad lives its own life, help!!

My mouse jumps around and live their own life, it seems to say the least quite frustrating.
Just when I think I press "no thanks" to this or that, the mouse, ie coursen, jumped on the "yes"
Sometimes it is just small jumps coursen making, other times it is across the entire screen.
Even when I'm not actively control the mouse / coursen happens that it moves across the screen.
Then sometimes I would rather do nothing, but still make something.
It makes it a little at times, but for example. 3-4 days without and then maybe 30 minutes to 1 hour when it does it. Have tried MacKeeper where it finds an error during virus rubric, but have not bought it, so do not know if it can help? It is now worse, but since writing this post right now, without problems?
Have updated to Mac OS X 10.7.4, as it teased a period of 1-2 months ago but nothing has helped?
What can I do? If I reset my computer works again or is it something hardware does not work anymore? The computer is nearly a year old.
    Sincerely Lasse

Uninstall MacKeeper before you do anything. I'm not saying that it's the cause of your problems, but get rid of it nonetheless.
See - Do Not Install MacKeeper and How to Uninstall MacKeeper.
Get rid of it immediately. It is insidious malware.
    Clinton
