Integral keyboard power 'on' switch question.

hey
my Macbook died a few days ago, and wont power back on, think it's the Integral power switch located on the top right of the laptop. there was an electrical zap in this area when the computer failed (away from the left side where the logic board is located), opened the Macbook to take a look and nothing obvious going on.
questions:
Does this sound logical?
Would a failed 'on' switch make the Macbook appear dead, especially if it's shorting?
Is there a way to start the Macbook with out needing the keyboard connected, (un plugged key pad connecter to the logic board)?
Is there a way to test if the problem is the 'on' switch rather than the logic board. is a replacement keyboard assembly the only reliable way to do this?
I know it's a bit technical but if any one has any insight into this, I'll be really grateful for that. Would hate to get a new logic board only to find it is a shorted switch.
thanks..

hey istand
thanks for your answer.
yeah later models 07+ logic boards have jumper pads that will start boot procedure with top case isolated. just wondering if any one knows if 06 boards (mine) has the same feature. had a good look but can't find them.
Power 'on' shortage is a known power outage issue, i'm 60% sure this is my problem, failing the jump pads a replacement good top case will have to do.
there are a number of determinations to go through before deciding on a new logic board. airport card isolated etc. (Apple service recommendations or so I'm led to believe)

  • Which RAM can K8N Neo2 Platinum stands + keyboard power on ?

    Hi,
I got a K8N Neo Platinum (ref MS 7030)  to build up a new system. At first I set up my PC with NO NAME RAM (PC2100 - 512 Mo - Cas unknow). Everything was fine.
I tried yesterday  to replace my RAM with a new one : Kingston brand PC3200 512 Mo DDR Cas 3. In the bios, I set  all the relevant parameters to "auto" (ie : the items in the menu "DRAM configuration"). I manage to boot up my XP but after a couple of seconds : windows return a blue screen and reboot automatically. If I switch back to my old PC2100 RAM everything works fine. I tried up the new RAM on another computer and it works fine (I tested it with Memtest)
So, my question is : is there a way to get this RAM work with my mobo ? what shall I check ?
Another prob is how do you active the keyboard power on, it is set up in the bios but doesn't work.
    thank you for your help,
    Stéphane

    Stéphane,
Remove the Power Cord from the Power Supply and the Battery from the Mobo. Leave them both out for a good 15 to 20 minutes before putting them back in again.
    Take Care,
    Richard

  • New apple wireless keyboard & iPad 3 pairing question

Bought a new Apple wireless keyboard this week. Had some trouble pairing with iPad 3. Took me 4-5 attempts but it finally paired successfully after 10-15 minutes. Question for all you gurus...  When the wireless keyboard arrived on Friday, I first paired it with my MacBook Pro. Could that have caused issues when I re-paired the wireless keyboard (today) with my iPad 3. And further, this will sound like a silly question, can the wireless keyboard be paired with two devices? I don't mean simultaneously. Does it screw up any settings to use the key board with separate devices/computers? Wondering -- if I keep my wireless keyboard at my office -- can I go to work with either my MBP or my iPad and simply use this one wireless keyboard? Or should each device have its own dedicated wireless keyboard? That seems redundant but I kind of love this keyboard already and would be willing to buy a second, if need be. Obviously, I don't want to spend extra money if it isn't necessary. Am I going to have to re-pair the keyboard and device each time I switch between the iPad and the MBP? Thanks all. You are always helpful and I appreciate it.

Thanks for the quick reply Skydiver! So...I really should buy a second wireless keyboard so that I don't have to go through the hassle of re-pairing the keyboard when i switch devices, yes? Yes, I believe I've answered my own question as I now sit here with my MBP attempting to pair it to the keyboard. Oy. Taking forever. I don't mind buying a second -- for $69, it seems to be the most efficient thing to do. Now I just need to figure out a way to designate which wireless keyboard goes with which device. Time to buy a little sticker! Thanks again.

  • Are there keyboard shortcuts for switching to desktops with fullscreen apps?

Coming from SL, one functionality that I used a lot was keyboard shortcuts to go to different applications.
For instance, I had assigned Mail to Space 2, iTunes to Space 3 etc.
Then it was possible to instantly go to Mail by pressing alt-2, to iTunes with alt-3 etc.
In Lion, it is possible to assign Applications to desktops, and use the same commands to go to these desktops. However, as soon as an application is 'fullscreened' it leaves its previous desktop, and cannot be reached with the old keyboard shortcuts.
    My question:
is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut to switch to a desktop containing a fullscreen app?

This is quite possible. The way to do it is with keyboard shortcuts. If you check the appropriate boxes you can use a keyboard combination of Control and the Desktop #. It makes it very easy to swtich between desktops.

  • K430/K450: here`s the SOLUTION to Lenovo Power control switch not working anymore.

If your power control switch isn`t working anymore BUT you didn`t unistall it or erase some of his files, chances are that over time some software/update took control of some setting used by the Lenovo switch.
If this is the case, before reinstalling the software, try the following:
1 - Check your power plan option, if is on something else than Lenovo  change your power plan option (scheme) to Lenovo Power Scheme.
2 - Access your pc advanced startup setting (win+x) check for the services LitModeCtrl and LenovoComService and set the two services to automatically start when the computer startsup. If it`s not working 99% is because some software (the most common is Samsung SSD Magician) has set the two to "Manual". Change to "Auto".
3 - Reboot and the Power control switch software will be working again.
I wonder why no one from Lenovo advice this, but i`ve had to find a solution myself after countless hit & miss attempts.

  • K450 doesn't have Power control switch?

    Hi,
I recently bought a Lenovo Ideacentre K450 (refurbished) from lenovo outlet. When I received it I was a bit surprised that it doesn't have the power control switch, and there's no LED lighting as well. It looks more like a low-end K410. I suppose all K450 would have the power control switch, or am I actually wrong? The model # of my machine is 57314032, with i7-4770, 16GB DDR3 and 2TB hard drive.
Does anyone have any idea? Not a big issue but kind of annoying... Thanks in advance!

    hi adcmaker,
    Thanks for Posting!
I suggest you contact Lenovo Post sales.
The Power Control Switch is a solid feature and not part of the optional ones.
It would be best if you would hear it from them since the unit is refurbished Im not sure if this is really how the system is.

  • IdeaCentre Power Control Switch Software

I have an IdeaCentre K430 on which I would like to do a clean Win 8.1 installation. I have the Win 8.1 installation DVD from Microsoft. If I do this clean installation of Win 8.1, is there any way for me to then install the Lenovo Power Control Switch software on my K430? I ask this because I can't find this software available for download anywhere on the Lenovo site. Thanks for your help.

  • Keyboard Power-on - is it possible?

    Hi,
We have a bunch of S20 at the office and they are placed inside a ventilated desk. I want to know if it is possible to set up the BIOS to allow the box to be switched on from the keyboard without asking the staff to duck under their desk, open the cabinet and switch it on manually?
We have other brands of desktops lying around and they can all do keyboard power-on.....
We already have wake form keyboard configured which is great then things are normal. But if for some reason the box will not shutdown or logoff from any number of windows problem they'll need to perform manual restart.... I can see this becoming an OH&S problem one day....
    So does anyone know?

Thanks for your clarification. I can understand the WOL / event timer for a power management point of view (e.g. wake computers up in the morning).
However I'm after a solution for a hard reset after the system goes unresponsive. I could / will hook up an external switch via the power button jumpers on the mobo [you probably dont want to hear this ]. but I just thought I'd exhaust the official avenues before I do a hack. Thanks.

  • I have an iMac that won't boot up.  I've read all posts on this subject to no avail.  When power is switched on, it chimes, Apple logo appears, spinning wheel, then loading bar starts to fill.  It gets to about 25% then switches off! Help please!

iMac that won't boot up!   When power is switched on it chimes, Apple logo appears, then loading bar, then spinning wheel.  Bar seems to load up and gets to around 25%, then reverts to the start again, gets to about 20% on the bar and then switches itself off leaving a black screen.  Tried all the remedies on internet with no avail so would welcome some advice other than binning what is a relatively new computer.  Earliest appointment Apple could offer was Thursday 17th, really useful for a business user _ not impressed,

You've probably tried this, but will it Safe Boot? Restart holding down the Shift key until you see the grey progress bar. You'll need to input your admin password during bootup. If it will boot you can then try to eject the disk using the various suggestions here that you haven't tried already:

  • How to disable power touch switch

Is it possible to disable the power touch switch on an apple 15” LCD display?
The display panel does not have an Options tab. G4, OS10.2.8, ADC.
    G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)   1GHzX2, 512MB

    Hi
have you tried holding down the Command and Shift keys before selecting Displays?

The Options tab used to be a hidden feature in earlier versions of OS X.

  • Keyboard layout keeps switching after 10.9.4 upgrade

After the recommended upgrade to Maverick 10.9.4, all of us in my group have the problem that the keyboard layout keeps switching every time a new Word document is opened (and possibly on a number of other occasions).
    We have MacBookPros 2011, 2012, 2013, all regretting having upgraded to OsX 10.9.4. As per instructions, mine's a Retina late 2013 and got a 2.8 GhZ i7 with 8GB 1600MHz DDR3, 500GB SSD - no performance issues!
There have been two discussion threads as far as I can see; none with a solution.
"Fixing" the keyboard to a single one is not an option for polyglot people like us who actually need several keyboard layouts.
I have fed back to Apple as recommended weeks ago, but to no avail so far.
This persistent problem is driving all of us mad. Does no one on this list have any answers? Surely there's some setting somewhere that turned a perfectly well working system (10.9.3) into one that's costing us tens of minutes every single day (10.9.4)?
    Thanks in advance,
    Alexander

There is a box that no one had mentioned...
System Preferences---> Keyboard---> Input Source---> Uncheck the "Automatically switch to a document's input source. The input source is used until the document is closed."
kafetzou... You may want to delete the Turkish keyboard so that the English is on top of the list. Then re-add the Turkish keyboard, this will make it under the English. Though I don't know if this will help your problem, or the box that I mentioned above.
