  • Compare Java based reporting to OBIEE

    Hello All,
Due to a lot of misconceptions, my current client thinks that a lot of their problems will be resolved by simply retiring OBIEE and write all the reports in Java.
Some requirements are unrealistic to ask from OBIEE and some are well...limitations.
The client has asked us to give him reasons why he still should be on OBIEE. Has anyone done a comparison of Java based reports and OBIEE (or any BI tool)?
Reasons why OBIEE stands out would also help.
    Thanks all!!

There are many, many reasons why to use OBIEE. One of the bigger reasons being you don't need to know anything about Java in order to build an Answer Report.
I've been asked a similar question in the past, to compare OBIEE versus Java based ADF. My response is that they have two completely different purposes.
--OBIEE is end-user/middle-user driven dashboards and ad-hoc analysis.
--Java/ADF is for power-users to pre-constructed reporting systems. (forgive me but I don't know the ad-hoc capabilities of Java/ADF)
If your client has full-time java resources to commit to the creation and maintenance of a Java environment, then by all means they should probably go that route. But keep in mind that as new uses want to see different data layouts and different data sets, your java team will quickly become overburdened.
OBIEE relieves the strain on the java (IT) team and allows end-users to drive reporting with the relatively occasional support by IT.
Yes, OBIEE does have limitations, but always keep in mind that a) It's an ad-hoc Dashboard framework and not an ad-hoc java framework which has much greater flexibility but requires much more technical expertise b) There is a major release of OBIEE (11g) just around the corner that is about to change the game in terms of how OBIEE can be used. You should have your client stay on board until they can at least see the new features.
Good luck and if you found this post useful, please award points!
    Best regards,
    -Joe

  • Integrating BPM default reports with OBIEE

    Hi All,
Can we integrate ORACLE BPM with OBIEE reports? if yes How ?
Here is my scenario, in oracle BPM we have 4 reports  unattended task reports, task priority report, task cycle time report... , We need all these reports should execute from OBIEE
    Regards,
    Francis

We would like to have the reports directly from the Web based system on to the OBIEE dashboard without configuring anything in RPD.And I would like to win the lottery without even buying a ticket. :-)
You can embbed HTML content in a OBIEE Dashboard. Have a look at the Answers, Delivers, and Interactive Dashboards User Guide:

  • Script to kill long running reports in OBIEE

    Hi
I have requirement to kill long running reports . I am using OBIEE version 10.1.3.4.0 which has a bug where it is not taking query limits governor and the reports are not getting killed if i am setting that parameter in RPD.
Oracle support has advised me to upgrade to next version, but for now, i cannot upgrade.
Can anyone suggest me script to run on obiee app server that can kill long running reports on obiee and database server.
I have AIX server and all reports run on database with same functional ID that is being used for ETL as well to Analytics database.

  • Migration of Discoverer 1g reports to OBIEE

we are trying to migrate reports from Discoverer 10g to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.We have migrated the EUL using the utility tool provided by OBIEE.
Now we were trying to use the sample reports and migrate the same to OBIEE 10.1.3.4.
We are using a sample xml which we will be using to migrate the reports .We have a web service which takes report inputs in this XML format, converts and save OBIEE reports.
SInce OBIEE does not have tabs(worksheets) like Discoverer,we thought
we will have to prepare xml for each tab and present it as a single
    report in OBIEE.
    1) Can u please suggest if this is right or there is some
workaround for it or if anyone has idea about it?
We could also do some changes to the xml to incorporate some functions of discoverer if anyone has suggestions.
We are assuming that Crosstab reports are similar to Pivot tables in OBIEE.
    2) But we are not sure how to incorporate the page items in thexml.plz suggest if anyone has ideas since not sure if page items can be handled in OBIEE.
    3) Can someone help us in completing with this below xml by taking example of the sample reports present in discoverer. The values of reports are to be included in the xml
Any help would be great since we are trying this for the first time and we are not well versed with xml too. Please find below the sample xml we are using

    Hi,
I opened the Discoverer administrator and clicked on export.
in next step i selected the option "Selected obects in the end user layer" for "what do u want to export"?
i choose workbook and selected the sample workbook "Video Tutorial workbook"
Then i gave the name "Video Sales Tutorial" and saved the file in a folder and selected the check box "generate xml for exported workbooks"
I got the file in the folder as Video Sales Tutorial.eex.That .eex file had details of the workbook name and all other information
    <UniqueIdent ConstraintName="DOC1" Batch="False" DeveloperKey="VIDEO_TUTORIAL_WORKBOOK"/>
But to get these workbook details we have to always save the workbook in the DB.We cannot save the workbook in our file system.
Am i right?Since only workbooks which are in DB can be exported.
Thanks a lot for the info. Will try to analyze this information

  • Browser performance issue when Calling BI Publisher report from OBIEE dashb

    Hi Techies,
We installed OBIEE 10.1.3.3 on SunOS 5.9 unix box. This is PROD env.We are calling BIPublisher report from OBIEE dashboard by clicking the BIP reports link on OBIEE dashboard. After clikcing the link BIPublisher report is opening in another browser window. But is it taking time.
Plz tell me how can we reduce the time taken to open BIPublisher report window when we cilck on the report name in OBIEE dashboard
    Thanks,

    Suresh
There is no out of the box method to get the EBS report to OBIEE. You could look into moving the EBS report to a mountable web server directory after it completes and then show it in OBIEE via a link or html object. You will need to rename the report of course, every time you run it its going to change names.
In an after report trigger you could call a small java class to move and rename the file for you.
Alternatively, recreate the report in the standalone version. Be aware that you are going to have to set orgs yourself, BIP is not aware of orgs outside of EBS

    Hi Vaidya,
I'm not sure how much I can help you but from the error log I can see there is some issue when deploying transformations. Have you implemented any transformations in BI? If yes please check if they are applied properly and working fine in BI. Then try to open the report in portal.
Here is a document on modeling transformations in BI https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/dc43c445-0d01-0010-23a1-ca348ff5f975

  • BI Publisher report in OBIEE Dashboard

    Hi,
I have a BI Publisher report that consists of:
    -SQL Based Report
    -Has 2 date parameters
This report is independent of any data source OBIEE, ie there is no repository for the data shown in the BI Publisher report.
I need to show this report in OBIEE dashboard with parameters. The report should get a parameter from a prompt / dynamic var.
I have understood according, there are two methods for achieving this:
    1. Create a BI Publisher Report using BI Answers report as the data source wherein the BI Answers report would have one of the column’s filter clause as “is prompted”.
    2. Create a BI Publisher Report using BI Answers/Database as data source. Create a parameter for the BI Publisher report and then match this parameter name while assigning the presentation variable for the dashboard prompt.
But I can not implement this, because my BI Publisher report is independent of any data source OBIEE.
There a way to solve this?
    Thanks in advance!

When you create the parameter in Report, and embed that in BIPublisher report section, it will display the parameter in the embedded content itself.
see, if you can make use of this.

  • Essbase reports in OBIEE 11g

    Hi Experts,
The Essbase reports in OBIEE 11g is displaying the member names instead of the Alias names. However in OBIEE 10g the Alias names are rightly displayed.
Can anyone please suggest on how it is possible to display the alias names in OBIEE 11g?

    Hi,
thanks for ur reply. I checked the above workaround but found that the option Display Column -> Alias is not enabled. So am not able to select it. Hence now Member names is selected.
Please let me know if i am missing something else.

  • Issue on Scheduling a report in OBIEE 11g

    Hi Everyone,
I have a report in OBIEE which i want to schedule this report like this,., Say i am in a month August and for this month my report has to schedule on monday for 1st week, monday and tuesday on 2nd week , monday and tuesday and wednesday for 3rd week  etc., How can i acheive this in obiee,.,.   Can anyone please answer this and i have to do this both in OBIEE and BIP also,..
    Regards

you cant do like that. But you can try to create a multiple schedules for the same report to the req which you are looking for. But normally you can do is like every min, daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually. If you select monthly there you can select only on every 1st/2nd/3rd/4th/last weekday(Sunday to Monday) or else in a month like every month 25th etc like that.

  • How to apply filters for union all report in OBIEE 11g

    Hi All
Can we apply saved filters to union reports in obiee 11g?
I am able to apply saved filters for normal reports but not for union reports.
The catalog pane is blank, when i click on result columns or each criteria.
The only option i see is to manually create the filters for each criteria, dont i have any choice to use a saved filter for union report?
Is this a bug or something i am unaware. Please guide me
    Thanks

    Hi manu,
Filter is created based on subject area.we can't use save filter in any other subject areas.
now we can use new filter for union reports.
if Helps please mark as correct.. :)
