    Hi,
We need to configure our share point 2013 web application to work with third party site using Single Sign On (SSO) service.
Currently we are using CAS (Central Authentication Service) as third party site. Trying to accomplish this from the last few days didn't found anything helpful.
Please let us know is share point 2013 support authentication with any external site and if not is there any alternative to achieve this e.g. via ADFS or something else. Please help.

  • Question regarding the powershell creation of service applications in SharePoint 2010/2013

    Hi
I create all my service applications in SharePoint 2010/2013 using Powershell.
Is there a "best practice" when to start the service Instance for a service application? Is it better to start the service instance prior to creating a service application or after the service application has been create?
    I'm curious.
    best regards
    Bjorn

Not that i'm aware of. If it works then go for it.
I would tend to build the service application and only then activate the instances on servers, however that is going to depend heavily on the application in question. The real heavyweights like Search are a special case in any event.

  • Service application in sharepoint 2010

    hi all,
i'm new to sharepoint. i have a small problem, i have created a customer service application and deploey it to sharepoint and tested it, and everything worked fine for me. now i checked the IIS and under Sharepoint Web Services i couldn't find my service,
can anybody tell what can be the cause for such an issue and how i can see the guid of my service under Sharepoint Web Services in IIS (Make sure that this is a custom service application).
    thanks very much !!

    Hi,
if you deploy the custom service application, we can’t find it under SharePoint Web Service site in IIS. We can find it in SharePoint Central Administration.

  • Reporting Services 2012 in SharePoint 2010 - SQL database edition?

We currently have a SharePoint 2010 farm, running on a SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard database.  On one of the SharePoint 2010 servers, we have an instance of Reporting Services 2008 Enterprise running in SharePoint integrated mode.  (We require Enterprise
    for data-driven subscriptions)
We'd like to upgrade to Reporting Services 2012 for Data Alerts and a few other new features.  However, I noticed something on
this blog stating that the SharePoint 2010 database server edition needs to match the Reporting Services edition. My concern is that I've not seen any official mention of this in Microsoft's documentation, and would like to avoid upgrading to Enterprise
for the SharePoint 2010 database if I can avoid it.
So, what I'd like to run is:
    SharePoint 2010
SharePoint database: SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard
    Reporting Services 2012 Enterprise
Reporting Services database: same as SharePoint database, so SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard
Is this possible?  Or do I need to upgrade the SharePoint database to SQL Server 2008 R2 Enterprise?
Alternatively, could I install a separate database engine just for Reporting Services to host its databases (for example, SQL Server 2012 Enterprise), so I don't have to mess around with upgrading the SP database?

While you don't need to upgrade your SQL 2008 R2 to 2012, you will need to install an instance of SQL 2012 & SSRS 2012. They can be side-by-side and independent of each other. The following blog post provides steps to do so,

  • Reporting Services 2012 in SharePoint 2010 - do I need to install SSRS on each server?

Have spent some time today setting up SSRS2012 with SP1 Business Intelligence Edition on our test SharePoint 2010 farm.  The SharePoint farm is four servers (plus a database) - one of the application servers will host the SQL Server 2012 instance and
    SSRS 2012.
I've installed SSRS 2012 on one of the servers in SharePoint mode, and seems to be configured correctly in Central Admin - can view the system settings, it reports that the SQL Server Agent is running, etc.  I've also installed the SSRS 2012 SharePoint
Add-In on all servers.  However, I'm getting the following error whenever I try to do anything with reports (such as deploying or running):
Name=Request (POST:http://sharepoint/reports/ReportService2010.asmx) System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException: The file you are attempting to save or retrieve has been blocked from this Web site by
    the server administrators.
Sure enough, if I try to connect to that ReportService2010.asmx URL in a browser, I get the same error.  Note that http://sharepoint is NOT the server I installed SSRS on - this is a web front-end.
Can I assume that I need to install SSRS2012 (SharePoint integrated) on all SharePoint servers in the farm?  Or is this another issue?

You only need to install the Add-on for the additional servers. Have you configured the SSRS Service Application?

  • Rename State Service Database in SharePoint 2010

As the title says, I want to rename/change database for State Service Application.
I did some experiments wit it as suggested by others but I think I somehow managed to broken my service.
I can SharePoint Products Configuration again and I got another database State_Service_GUID which I didnt want at the first place.
    I followed the steps on
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff851878.aspx#State and it failed as well, and I am in middle of no where.
I am even not sure if my service is properly running or not. I can see it in Service Applications page in Central Administration as Started but I cannot select it and use ribbon operations on it.

    Hi ,
    Rename the Service Database
Go to SQL Management Studio and rename the database
Open SQL Management Studio. You may have to go to your SQL Server to do this.
Attach to the instance that host SharePoint
    Find your database
Right click on the database name and choose Rename
Delete the GUID off the end of the name or make the name whatever you want then press Enter. SQL Database is now renamed. Notice I changed all of the spaces to underscores. Why? Because DBAs hate spaces in names more than they hate GUIDs and I am a nice
    guy.
Now go to your SharePoint Server and use PowerShell to set the database name.
Click Start > All Programs > Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Products > SharePoint 2010 Management Shell. If you have UAC enabled be sure to run it as Administrator.
Then run the following line. Be sure to replace your info for service app and database name.
Now you can celebrate you have saved the world another GUID. I have a master post here with all of the anti GUID posts linked in one place. Right here.

  • Adding a custom rendering extension to SQL Server Reporting Services 2012 for SharePoint 2010 integrated mode

We are attempting to add OfficeWriter report rendering extensions for SSRS 2012 in SharePoint (2010) integrated mode through powershell. The documentation for “New-SPRSExtension” is rather

What would be the equivalent syntax for “New-SPRSExtension” to do the above for SSRS 2012 in SharePoint (2010) integrated mode?
Alison Bird SoftArtisans Technical Services www.softartisans.com

    Hi Alison,
Unlike the deployment of other custom extensions such as custom delivery extension and data processing extension, it is not necessary to add a code group for the custom assembly that grants FullTrust permission for the extension during the deployment of
custom rendering extension. If you have copy the custom assembly to the %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.<InstanceName>\Reporting Services\ReportServer\Bin folder, and modify the RSreportserver.config file to add the extention entry properly,
please open the SSRS Service Application created on the SharePoint and verify that your extension is included in the list of available export types for a report.

  • ITunes U and  Central Authentication Service

    Summary:
We are testing RSS URLs that are behind CAS. iTunes is have a problem when subscribing to a podcast with these RSS URLs.
    Description:
    - RSS URL is put in browser, the browser is redirected to our CAS server where the user is challenged for their username / passphrase. If authenticated, they are directed back to URL with a CAS ticket.
    -RSS URL before: http://someurl.com/feed.xml
    -RSS URL after: http://someurl.com/feed.xml&casticket=somecaseticketid
The W3C Feed Validation Service sees the URL as:
Redirecting to CAS server, so it believes the RSS URL is not a valid RSS URL. The feed is valid without the CAS redirect.
Assumption: The RSS URL with CAS ticket can not be passed from browser to iTunes while maintaining the validity of the CAS ticket. (effectively copying a RSS URL with CAS ticket from Safari and pasting in Firefox).
Question: How can we protect a podcast RSS URL behind CAS and allow a subscription to the podcast URL in iTunes?

    MJ,
I'm pretty sure my picture of what you're trying to do is too fuzzy for me to offer you good advice .... I have a couple of ideas, but I'm not sure if they apply to you mostly because I don't know if I've got a good picture of what you're trying to do.
I think my big hangup is that you seem (big emphasis on "seem") to be conflating what are two different RSS feeds into the same feed.
In iTunes U, there are basically two types of RSS feeds. First, there is the RSS feed that iTunes U itself uses to get to your content (if you're locally hosting content). This is the feed you tell iTunes U about when you create a feed group (that is, when you create a new tab in a course, and say that it's a "feed" tab…as opposed to a "simple" or "smart" tab). You can access this feed anonymously, or with user credentials (you can use HTTP basic authentication or have Apple SHA256 any feed request)…but you don't access this feed for individual users…you sort of access the feed generically, for all users of your site (iTunes will show/hide the feed on a per-user basis given the creds the user brings to an iTunes U session). Then there is the second kind of feed…the feeds iTunes U shows to your users when they're in iTunes U (the feeds iTunes U makes available to users when they click on the "Subscribe" button in courses). The URLs for these two kinds of feeds are quite different.
Your CAS server sounds as though it acts as your iTunes U portal server (or is a component of it). As such, it must translate a user/password into an iTunes U URL with credentials (that is, it must point to the -second- kind of feed I described in the paragraph above). An iTunes U portal server is basically a mapping tool…it maps users/passwords into iTunes U URL requests. These requests contain a set of credentials and a specific destination within iTunes U, not any sort of local server…even for feed groups.
Not sure this is helpful because I could really be misreading your problem…but I thought I'd take a whack at it.

  • Integrate SAP Business Data Into SharePoint 2010 Using BCS & LINQ

One of the core concepts of Business Connectivity Services (BCS) for SharePoint 2010 are the external content types. They are reusable metadata descriptions of connectivity information and behaviours (stereotyped operations) applied to external data. SharePoint offers developers several ways to create external content types and integrate them into the platform. The SharePoint Designer 2010, for instance, allows you to create and manage external content types that are stored in supported external systems. Such an external system could be SQL Server, WCF Data Service, or a .NET Assembly Connector.

  • Sharepoint 2013 site having NTML Crawl issue while crawling Sharepoint 2010 sites having FBA authentication

    Hi,
We have Sharepoint 2013 search center site which is claim based with NTLM authentication set. we have Sharepoint 2010 farm also running which are FBA authenticated.
While crawling Sharepoint 2010 sites having FBA authentication from SP 2013 search center having NTLM auth. it does not give proper result.
Can you please help me what can be done here?
    Thanks,
    Prashant

    Hi Prashant,
According to your description, my understanding is that the search cannot work correctly when crawling the SharePoint site which is form-based authentication.
Per my knowledge, the crawl component requires NTLM to access content. At least one zone must be configured to use NTLM authentication. If NTLM authentication is not configured on the default zone, the crawl component can use a different
zone that is configured to use NTLM authentication.
However, if crawling a non-default zone of the web application, URLs of results will always be relative to the non-default zone that was crawled for queries from any zone, and this can cause unexpected or problematic behavior.
I recommend to make sure that the default zone of the SharePoint 2010 web application to use NTLM authentication.

  • Trying to link SharePoint 2010 Enterprise with SharePoint 2013 Search Server raises error

    Hi,
I am currently working for a multinational who has SharePoint 2010 Enterprise Edition installed, 2 WFE SERVERS, 3 APP SERVERS, 1 DB SERVER. They also installed SharePoint 2013 Exterprise recently.
Microsoft have recently come in and set up the SharePoint 2013 Search Server to crawl content in SharePoint 2010 as the replacement search to SharePoint 2010 Search. So they have gone through process of certificates and permissions
setups I guess. I was told it was working, but recently failed. When I type in the search box on a web site for SharePoint 2010 I get the message:
The search request was unable to connect to the Search Service.
I checked the Event log and the Critical error (in Task Category:Timer) I get is the notorious:
The Execute method of job definition Microsoft.Office.Server.Search.Administration.CrawlReportJobDefinition (ID fa882704-80d9-415b-9b9d-eae5e9bdefd4) threw an exception. More information is included below.

e5431a180c2b' in search application 'Search_Service_Application' is in a good state and
            try again.
I know administration component is the crawler. I am assuming this is permissions.
The SharePoint 2013 Search Server is picking up SharePoint 2010 site collections items fine i.e. The SharePoint 2013 search shows items from 2010 as expected.
On the SharePoint 2010 central admin box the search service enabled and running (checked with powershell). (SharePoint Server Search 14)
    The Search Service id: e9172a05-22ec-4904-9508-e5432a180c2b
I also get the message in event log for gatherer on SharePoint 2010 CA and Search Server:
Could not access the Search database. A generic error occurred while trying to access the database to obtain
           the schema version info.

    Details:
                (0x80040e09)
Is this permissions to delete something from crawler??????
I would appreciate if someone could help on this. I have tried to be as concise as possible.
    Thanks.
    John.

It was a case that someone had fiddled with the Service App Associations. Hadn't ticked SharePoint 2013 search. Was still point at 2010. Thanks.
The SharePoint 2013 Search works correctly for SharePoint 2010.
Can someone confirm that the Search Service Application on SharePoint 2010 still needs to exist and hence SharePoint Server Search 14 Service still needs to be running? I am guessing it would as you search from 2010 interface not 2013. I am getting a critical
    error in the Event Viewer:
    CrawlReportJobDefinition (Id <SharePoint 2010 Crawler>)
The search service is not able to connect to the machine that hosts the administration component. Verify that the administration component <crawler id> in search application "Search Service Application" is in a good state and try
    again.
I think this is related to the fact we have SharePoint 2013 doing the search instead of 2010.
    Any ideas?
    John.

  • SharePoint 2010 - Oracle Integration

    Hi,
Can we integrate Oracle views (virtual table) in SharePoint 2010 using BCS , as I've worked on integration in SharePoint with oracle tables and not views using BCS..?
Which is recommended one - a) Moving the data in SharePoint external list to show the results in search or
    b) directly fetching the data from Oracle DB and show in search results in SharePoint...?
Also , here I'm not talking about native/default SharePoint search (i.e. crawling , indexing etc)  ,I'm talking about database-driven search with heavy customizations , SharePoint will only be used for interface.. :(
    Any ideas !!!

Microsoft Business Connectivity Services can connect to external data from oracle database,
you can try to create a BDC model for connecting to Oracle Databases, the following articles have more information about this:
