Integrate Qt3 apps in KDE4

IS there anyway to make QT3 apps running under KDE4 look the same?
I mean, I'm using QtCurve, how can I make my Qt3 apps use the same color scheme as the other apps and how can i choose which theme to use?
Google did'nt help a bit and the wiki doesn't menctions how to do this.
Thanks in advance.

Well lets put it this way
I'm not gonna switch out Empathy for Pidgin (Pidgin stores passwords in plaintext in a easily accessible folder/file unless you needlessly use a kwallet plugin, which you shouldn't need to do.Empathy does not store said passwords in plaintext, and I believe it uses the Gnome Wallet).
Alot of programs got updated to gtk3, and require gtk3 themes. Guess how many gtk3 themes exist that aren't recolors/crappy edits of the default one...not a whole ton.
Ubuntu actually requires GTK3 now with Unity or even with Gnome. Alot of other distros will likely follow suit.
I could stick with GTK2 if Arch were still my secondary distro, but I now have a dedicated machine for Arch and I don't use it too often. I just tested the theme engine for oxygen-gtk3 on it to see if it worked, and like my Main Ubuntu/Debain Sid machine which I'm using the same problem with the Win98-esque theme on GTK3 apps in KDE occured.
I'm gonna try that fix you mentioned Teho, see if it works. It's obviously not a distro-specific problem.
Hawt damn Teho! Your solution worked like a charm! I could honestly hug you right now, you've fixed the last issue currently plauging both my Arch and Ubuntu installs. Thanks!
How do I change this topics prefix to solved?

  • Issue with Gtk3 apps in KDE4

I am also having this same issue with Ubuntu for some reason.
I recently got an arch Linux install up and going on my new laptop, but I am having one huge issue
I have the oxygen-gtk3 packages installed for both my Arch and Ubuntu install. Theoretically it should work, but for some reason my GTK3 apps aren't being themed in KDE4, they're using that redmond-like fugly default theme.
How might I fix this, I've tried everything from symlinking to compiling it again, nothing seems to work.
I suspect it might be an auto-start application to apply them that isn't working.

  • [Solved] Slow resizing for some apps under KDE4.

I use KDE4 (with the default theme) and Radeon graphic card (free driver). My problem is that the resizing of some windows is really slow. The problem does not appear with the KDE QT applications, but mostly for some old apps. Claws-mail is particularly affected. I do not think it is really a driver problem because claws-mail is unaffected in other window manager (as the default one in Ubuntu, with the same driver) as well in more primitive window managers like icewm. Moreover, native KDE4  QT apps behave properly.
It seems that modern Qt apps redraw approximatively while the resizing and do a final, complete redraw when it is finished, so it is smooth. Claws-mail redraw every time and it's not smooth. However, with other window managers, claws-mail does not redraw at all while the resizing and redraw one time at the end which is less visually appealing, but nevertheless smooth (it was probably the old method); for some reason it redraw every time while the resizing in KDE4.
I am only guessing and have not been able to find a proper documentation nor any fix. Anyone can point me in the right direction?

I reply to my own post. The culprit was the oxygen GTK theme under KDE. Under KDE, change it to Raleigh with System Setting -> Application Appearance -> GTK and the problem is solved. I had a problem with bluegriffon (from the AUR) that crashes. It was suggested here that the oxygen GTK theme was the culprit: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic … Xb92OyWNj8 . Indeed, after changing the theme, no more crash, and as no more problem with resizing windows!. Strange bugs though, I would have thought of everything but the GTK theme ?!?

  • [SOLVED] Basket - Running KDE3 apps in KDE4

    Hi all!
I have been using Arch + KDEmod (4.3) for about a month and a half now and I am very pleased with it. I want to use Basket, however, the KDE4 version is really buggy and no further development is happening with it. So I tried to use the KDE3 version which I installed from the Arch extra repos.
My problem is that the application crashes on startup. This is the output from the terminal:
    $ basket
    kbuildsycoca running...

Apparently, Basket tries to connect to DCOP which is not present in KDE4. Is there a workaround for this? Maybe, in other words, how do I get DCOP running properly in KDE4?
    Thanks.
P.S. These are the DCOP commands installed by the KDE3 libs

    Hi OrAC
I want to know can we upgrade database to 11.2.0.2 from version 11.2.0.1 in apps 11i env?Yes
In technote *Oracle Applications Release 11i with Oracle 11g Release 2 [ID 881505.1]* its mentioned:
This note is the master document describing the use of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i with Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (11.2.0.x), where x denotes the patch set level (currently 1).*
From this i understand in future if oracle release any patchset on the base release 11.2.0.1, then by default its certified. Correct

  • Several question regarding kde4

    Hi!
Yesterday I have upgraded kde to 4.1 version. I am quite happy with it, but I have several questions:
    1. Is there any way to organize icons on desktop? In KDE 3 we had "Snap to grid" and was ok. Now they are freely mixed on desktop.
    2. I am missing some KDE 3 styles (like domino). And now Qt3 apps uses basic Qt styles (which are awful). Trying to install it from pacman results in error, because styles require kde3-base.
P.S. I rather don't like default theme for KDE4. I miss some nice and polished window decorations and styles and of course grayish gray and more gray color schemes .

I heard about but didn't test Folder view (for managing icons on desktop). Also you can right click on applications in the menu and tell them to be put on the desktop. Or at least it worked before, with the first kde-workspace package merged. Unfortunately I cannot test now, since I'm on a win desktop at work.

  • KDE4 ignores font hinting settings [solved: qt bug, fixed in 4.5]

Full hinting enabled in Gnome and KDE:
Slight hinting enabled in Gnome and KDE:
KDE seems to ignore the hinting settings. It's present in ~/.fonts.conf, also Qt3 apps work fine.
I would like to use slight hinting everywhere, but KDE4 defaults to full hinting anyway
Google wasn't very helpful on this issue, and I found no mention of it in the KDE bugzilla.

Edit2: Oops, ignore my patch - it doesn't work. Qt4 doesn't even use cairo.

  • Integrate a web application to a portal

I need some information or pointers (even better) and answers to 2
    questions
    1. I have a web app using jsps and servlets. If I want to integrate
this app to a portal, what is the right approach? (considering the
fact that the app have a lot of jsp)
Assuming portlet is the way to go; how should I merge the user
interface of my existing app to the portlet?
    2. Is web services only provided data, but not including any kind of
    format information e.g. html tags?
    thank you
    -Daniel Chau

With regard to your first question - porting web-app to portal, you will need to
    focus on 2 areas:
    1. Navigation between pages within your current web-app. These will need to be
ported to the BEA workflow framework so URLs can be resolved at run-time by the
    portal framework.
    2. Access control. If you have access control - then you will need to port this
    to the portal framework.
Outside of these 2 issues - what you need to do - from a high level - is create
a portlet which will house your web-app and move your jsp / other resources to
the portlet directory. Update the web.xml file to reflect any resources you are
using or special configuration, e.g., tag-libs.....
Sorry i don't understand your second question...

  • Typical business case scenarios for SharePoint 2013 Apps

What are the typical real time business case scenario for 1. SharePoint Hosted apps 2. Auto Hosted apps 3. provider hosted Apps? Why people choose any of this model apps model in comparison to typical On-Premise solution?
Another question comes is when should one go for On-Premise solution rather than Apps? What are real time scenarios?

Let's discuss first whether to develop apps or full trust solution.
Talking about technical aspect, On-Premise solution is popular choice for organizations who have SharePoint hosted on premise (not SharePoint Online). However, if you are using SharePoint Online, there's no choice except Apps (and possibly sandbox but deprecated).
So for SharePoint Online only viable solution is developing apps. However for on-premise you can develop full trust or apps. However since apps requires a bit more configuration and not yet full feature set as you can do with full trust, most people are still
developing full trust solution on premise.
Talking about business requirement at hand, you can develop apps (even in on-premise), if your requirement is really looks like an app. For example, you would like to develop a SharePoint solution, that will show data from SAP inside SharePoint. The solution
mostly nothing to do with SharePoint but calling SAP services to perform stuffs. So you can develop an apps and deploy inside SharePoint. Another example is import CSV files in SharePoint list, you can write an apps. But mostly I think you need to decide whether
to develop apps depends on the Apps API ability. The API is still very limited in features/functionalities. So even if your requirement looks like apps you can't develop apps if the current SharePoint Apps API doesn't support the functionality.
Now let's talk about which apps model you would like to use SharePoint Hosted apps means everything hosted inside SharePoint and no other external infrastructure is required. One example is the CSV file upload apps. However, with SharePoint hosted apps,
you can't use C# rather you just have javascript to develop the apps. There's rumours that auto hosted apps will be deprecated not sure but there's not more conceptual difference apart from where the apps is hosted (both hosted outside SharePoint). Provider/auto-hosted
apps will be running outside SharePoint (i.e., in IIS web site), and communicate to SharePoint through REST or client object model. One provider hosted apps in the office app market is adlib pdf conversion. The apps allows you to select multiple files and
covert them to pdf file. Basically the conversion site is hosted somewhere outside (in the provider's infrastructure). When you select all the files and click 'convert' from ribbon user is redirected to the provider site (different url) and the files are merged
and converted to pdf. Since it's outside of sharepoint, you can use any development language (C#, java, php etc.). The provider hosted app talks to sharepoint through REST or client object model.
So in summary, sharepoint hosted app has less complexity as it doesn't require another infrastructure and runs inside sharepoint. However you are limited to use only javascript to develop your apps. On the other hand with provider hosted apps, you can use
any development language but you need to consider extra level of security/complexity to integrate the app with sharepoint.
    Thanks,

Thanks for this nice reply. Plz clarify if only Auto hosted apps will be deprecated or provider hosted apps also may be deprecated by MS?

    Hi
Importing apps into the Apperian platform is very easy. There is no SDK or other limitation that is required for the app to work once deployed with Apperian. Inboarding is a very easy and quick process that requires the binary and some metadata information from the administrator and takes a couple of minutes max.
Apperian also provides a Publishing API (public) that enables one-button integration from a development platform into Apperian. While Oracle BI Mobile App Designer is not yet integrated that way, it is a very quick process that took very little effort with other platforms.
Once inboarded, any process to integrate the app with company policies (via inspection of the app, applying security or adoption policies, integration with corporate identity management, etc.) is done without having to rebuild the app. All in all, it is a very easy process to follow.
    Hope this helps!
