Integrated Graphics & External Screen Problem

Hey everyone,
Seems that my late 2008 15" MBP has decided to stop working with my external screen when running on the integrated graphics card. The external screen will flash up with my desktop but then switch to to telling me there is no signal being received.
I cannot confirm if it's because I used the OS X v10.6.3 v1.1 Update (Combo) but I'm quite sure it started after I updated to this.
Has anyone had any experience with this and found any solutions, or have a troubleshooting tips for me or am I looking at an archive and reinstall...

Found out that the under the resolution settings for my external screen, there were two options for the native resolutions at the same Hz. Although both identical settings, one worked while the other did not...

Still white screen on the ati gpu, but not on the intel gpu.

Based on the cross validation you did, it looks like either the build in panel or the cable has the problem. (so that's why a reconnecting isn't working)
I'd suggest to visit the nearby service center for a check.
    Good luck!

  • 8220 Flip External Screen Problem

I'm a brand new blackberry owner and this is my first ever blackberry devive, so please be patient with me
The external display on my 8220 Flip is not acting how it was all day yesterday after I bought it.  The external screen constantly displays the clock and will not turn itself off.  I charged it last night on the bedstand and this morning it was still on.  Playing music works ok, but the clock still displays if music is playing while the flip is closed.  External buttons for pause and volume work correctly, and cause the external "now playing" screen to briefly appear, but then it goes right back to the clock.
I'm not sure exactly how this would have changed, but it appeared to happen when I changed from one theme to another, unforutnately it did not correct itself by going back to the correct behavior after I returned to the original theme.
I'm almost positive this has to (eventually) have some kind of negative affect on the display and battery life.  Can anyone point me in the right direction for fixing this?
    Many thanks in advance!
    Solved!

Open the clock application, click menu, select options and change 'when charging' to 'do nothing'.

  • External screen problems with macbook pro

    Hi Guys,
I have recently connected my macbook pro to an external screen via HDMI and am having a weird issue. When the MB is open, it perfectly displays on the external screen. But when I shut the MB, it displays the picture on the external screen for about 5 seconds, then turns off, then turns on again and continues this until I open the MB again.
WHat is going on? Am i missing something?
    thanks guys in advance

Something that's running on your machine (or something that's connected to it) is preventing it from sleeping when you close its built-in display. It should sleep and stay asleep as soon as that display is closed, unless you are running it in clamshell mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3131
Does the computer sleep properly when you close its display if the external monitor is not connected to it? Does the monitor have a USB cable that connects to the computer, in addition to its video cable?

  • EMac external screen problem

I am trying to connect an external monitor (Acer 22" P221WD) to my eMac with the VGA adapter.
At boot time I get a "Input Not Supported" message on the monitor -- the computer seems to boot fine, though (although I get no output on the CRT, which is the reason why I want to use an external).
Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it?
I believe the monitor and cables are OK as the Acer works fine with my MBP.
The eMac (minus its CRT) and VGA adapter also seem OK as I get an output on an older 19" Viewsonic monitor.
I thought of a mismatch in resolution, but the Acer seems to handle 1024x768 fine from the MBP.
Thanks in advance for any idea of what to try next!

Thanks, but this monitor has no such switch -- the auto-detect works fine when I use it with my MBP either on the VGA or the DVI input.
The cause for the problem, it turns out is incompatible refresh (vertical sync) rates. The eMac sends crazy refresh rates (72-138 Hz) while it seems that most modern LCD panels do no go anywhere near that high.
The solution of the problem is not that straightforward though. Apart from finding a monitor that accepts high refresh rates, a suitable scan converter may do the job, but it's difficult to find enough information to get the right combo.

  • HD4000 graphics problems when using a very big external screen

    Hello,
I just got a new LG 34UM95 (3440x1440) which can get connected via Thunderbolt or DVI. Screen detection and activation is working fine.
However the screen is corrupted when moving the mouse or activating the dock animation or scrolling a window, ...
    Scenario:
    - MacBook Pro Mid 2012 (Intel HD4000),
    - MacOS X 10.9.3
    - really big external display (3440x1440) connected via Thunderbolt or DVI
    - both displays (integrated end external display) active at same time
    Problem:
    - graphic errors (framebuffer corruptions) on both screens ==> it looks like the framebuffer memory size or some DMA transfer addresses are miscalculated
    - when scaling down the external resolution to something smaller (e.g. 2560x1080) everything is working fine
    - when closing the MacBook and using the external display only the big screen works flawlessly
==> Could you please have a look at this and fix the framebuffer corruption?
==> This might also be a race condition where the HD4000 driver accesses RAM which it should not have access to and could lead to an security attack.
    Thanks,
    Maik

I was able to use m_star's suggestion to fix this issue with my 2012 13" MBP. This is what I did to get it fixed:
    (1) Get KextBeast
    (2) Get a Hex editor like Hex Fiend
    (3) Using terminal copy AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext to the desktop (cp -r ./System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext ~/Desktop/)
    (4) Open ~/Desktop/AppleIntelFramebufferCapri.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleIntelFramebufferC apri with the Hex Editor
    (5) Search for "03 00 66 01 01 02 04 02 00 00 00 04 00 00 00 01", so you know what to change
    (6) Replace this sequence with "03 00 66 01 01 02 04 02 00 00 00 04 00 00 40 01", which is basically just the second last group
    (7) Save the file and close the hex editor
    (8) Run KextBeast which will install this kext to where it needs to go
    (9) Reboot

  • [X300 intel external display] Problem to display correctly 1600x1200px on external screen

    Hello everyone,
I have a problem with my external display on my X300 laptop...
    I have a X300 with WinXP, and a 20" 4/3 1600x1200 external display (Samsung 204B).
When I want to use my external display as an extended desktop, it didn't work well... First I configure my display as an extended ... into 1600x1200px resolution. As the ratio isn't 4/3 on the laptop, there is some border at the top and at the bottom of the external screen, consequenly there is an "lift" (when I go down the screen move down.. etc.). It's not very ..cool.
So there is an option into the graphic proprety to set the screen in "full screen : not keeping the proportions". But, in this case, my external screen display an ... triky ? There is still an "lift", but there is also two border on the right and the left of the screen, and the image quality isn't there. It's too deformed to can be read.
After some research it appear that my lenovo drivers do not match with the last intel one... But when I try to install the lenovo one ... It didn't work ! (hardware problem).
How can I get a working extended desktop into 1440x900 + 1600x1200 full screen !
Thanks for all, and sorry for my poor English...

i have the same problem with X200 and the X200 ultrabay Docking station.
    No idea yet ...

  • IMac G5 Graphic Card Replacement for blue screen problem

When I turn on iMac, I only see blue screen, the apple technician said Need to replace graphic card,  Nvidia Gforce 7600GT 256.
1, can it install in IMac?  Seem like it work for PC?
2,  I had blue screen problem several time,  I think I turn on iMac too long, so it burn out graphic card.
3,  I have 2007 G5 24" screen model,  is any durable and afford graphic card you recommend?
Where to buy for cheaper price?
Do I need to change mother board?
4,  can I replace it by myself?  Any picture or video for graphic card replacement?
    Thank you.

If you look around, you might be able to find someone who will replace just the chip on the graphics card, which is what usually fails. It will take someone highly skilled; they really have to know what they're doing--it's not an ordinary soldering job.
Here's someone who found a non-Apple service to do this, and it proved to be far less expensive than a full logic board replacement. But I think this was in the UK.

  • Problem using external screen and KVM switch since OSX 10.6.4 update

I've just returned from a trip during which I installed the OSX SL 10.6.4 update on my 13" MacBook Unibody Aluminium (late 2008).
It's been working fine but when I came home and plugged it into my KVM setup my mac could not find the external display. I tried rebooting and reconnecting without any success. The KVM is a Aten CS62DU USB and DVI model. It works great for my PC which is connected to the second input.
Furthermore I've connected the display using only the minidisplay->DVI adapter and a standard DVI cable. This works but not as rigid as it used to. It takes a few connects and disconnects before OSX is able to find the external screen. It seems that the timelimit for handshaking with extrenal screens have been decreased with the 10.6.4 display driver update. Perhaps this is the cause of my problem.
Have anyone experienced something simular since the 10.6.4 update? I really need to get my mac working with my KVM again.

I haven't experienced this specific problem with this specific hardware, but I have updated systems and had to replace KVMs on lower releases of OSX because they simply refused to work.
Any chance a firmware update is available from the manufacturer of the switch?

Is it meant to have both the Intel and Nvidia drivers installed?
Sort of. You don't install the regular nvidia drivers package but the bumblebee one.

  • HP Stream 7/8: Discussion - Adapters for attaching external screen (USB-graphics)?

Hi all I own a HP Stream 7 and 8 tablet. I am looking for ways to use the micro USB port to attach an external screen by wire instead of using Miracast. My current OTG adapter (Delock OTG Connection Kit 5 in 1 with HDMI) does not work, most probably because the Stream tablets don't seem to support the MHL protocol (the specs for the Stream models on NDTV state this clearly -while the specs Stream 8 5801 / Stream 8 5901 at HP don't specify it. But the specs from NDTV are not completely accurate (e.g. the Stream 8 has 3G support, but ndtv.com says it doesn't). The alternative is to use USB-graphics devices, often also combining the possibility to use the USB connection (data) AND charge the unit at the same time. The Stream tablets have only USB 2.0 so HD video may not be satisfactory on the external screen. I have found references to the following products where an external screen seems to work:Pluggable.com's UD-Pro8 docking station  - USD 89Pluggable.com's USB 3.0 to HDMI/DVI Video Graphics Adapter - USD 49.95Targus' Universal Workstation Bundle including the Port Replication Dock - USB 149.99Anyone looking for the Micro USB Dongle for Data and Charging, the Dell Micro Dongle seems to be a working choice. Any input from other on what adapters may work are welcome!- Maurice

The Dell OTG Cable does allow you to connect a usb device but does NOT allow you to charge at the same time. This OTG cable works for attaching a usb device but has NO charge capabilities.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00871Q5PI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This OTG cable does work to connect a usb device.  It also does have a charging plug but it does NOT work with the Stream 7 to charge while using an usb device.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXAC1ZW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The Plugable UD-3000 Docking station can be connected via OTG cable and does work with usb devices. However, it does NOT charge the Stream while connected. The Plugable UD-3000 Docking station can be connected via OTG cable and does work with usb devices. However, it does NOT charge the Stream while connected  even if it is connected via an OTG cable with charging capabilities.  The next step is to test with a Plugable Pro8 if I can find one in stock.  I am open to suggestions of OTG cable manufacturers that make an OTG cable with a power connection that will work with HP Stream.  I would be happy to purchase/text and document my results.

  • Can a MBPr drive external screen from integrated GPU?

    Hi
I am looking to conserve battery life with my new MacBook Pro Retina and want to set it to integrated GPU only when on battery, however, I cannot seem to make it see an external display when on this setting.
Any ideas of a way to make this work or is it not possible at all?
    Robin

    Hi
I have no issue with it switching to discrete GPU when connected via Thuderbolt, as I will typically have my machine plugged in when I do this.
However I visit custoemrs and do presentations and I woudl have expected the integrated GPU to be easily able to output to an external monitor for this simple process but nope, nothing at all.
I am guessing, although I have not tried it, that I could make the external screen my only screen but this is not an ideal option either!!!!!
