Integrated mic next to iSight broken

Hi,
I am attempting to make a podcast with what comes with the Macbook. It can't do it. Just want to warn others after discovering it might affect a lot of Macbook owners. If making video postcasts aren't your thing, you are okay. but if not being able to make video podcasts or Youtubes with the integrated camera and mic would be considered a show-stopper for you, then listen up.
Machine: Macbook, May 2007 Generation
Program used: iMovie '08 in iLife '08 as bundled with the Macbook.
Mic: Integrated mic (the left dot of the iSight)
Video cam: Integrated iSight
What I did: opened up iMovie, clicked Apple-I to record a movie. Movie gets made, but during playback you can hear an obstrusive high-pitched beep beep beep. Like four times a second. The beeping rates varies from time to time, but for the most part is just like that.
When you do an Apple-I on iMovie, the recording function will by default use the integrated mic and integrated iSight. Just to be crystal clear on this.
If you search on google for Chirp Isight you should get a lot of hits on past users having the same problem.
iChat/Skype: This will also be a show stopper for you anytime you want to do anything involving video and audio. As long as you want to use the integrated capturing devices. Like iChat. Skype. Etc.
Audio only recordings are fine. It only kicks in when both the integrated video and audio is in use.
Because I took so much care in keeping the Macbook clean and scratch-free, and taking so much time to install all my software and my settings. I am kinda peeved that I have to send this in for repair. This is pretty much ruining my start of college. I am simply speech-less.
Anyway, just a heads up to everyone, if you just got your Macbook, check for this problem. If you don't have it, awesome. Please let me know. I am starting to get the sense all Macbooks suffer from this. Might be a design flaw.
Notebook history: This macbook has been used for around a couple weeks. It's shipped directly from Shanghai, brand new. It's been pampered.
Right now I don't have any positive vibes left because this problem isn't really the first problem I have had with the Macbook. I hope Apple can repair this thing and turn the tide of bad luck I have been having with this thing.

Hello clf-toronto
Sorry you are experiencing this problem, too. I cannot hear your problem, either, but thanks for posting your GCam results. Well done, and good conclusions!
As you know, we users who post in Discussions have found no solution yet, so the problem appears to require professional service for resolution. In the meantime, we are still waiting for some published info from Apple.
I expect that Apple searches its warranty & repair work for quality issues and trends, but, if you have not (and do not) contact Apple or your retailer for service on this issue, please report your problem via MacBook Feedback. Unlike posting in this user forum, Feedback goes directly to Apple.

  • Audio drivers for Compaq C770LA for Win XP Pro / integrated mic not working

Hello. I have downgraded a Compaq C770LA to Win XP Pro SP3. Almost everything seem works perfect, but I have tried several audio drivers and still can´t get to control or use the integrated mic which this notebook has. I can hear audio and even record, etc, but there is no way to use or get to the integrated mic and some of the volumen controls I was used to (as "Record whats been listened") are lost. Does anybody knows wheter I have to change the driver or if it´s going to be any difference if I install for example the smartaudio add-on? I tried HP but they replied they don´t provide drivers for notebook for Operating Systems other than the one they gave the notebook with.
Thanks in advance for any clue!

  • INTEGRATED MIC ARRAY RECORDS ONLY NOISE

My laptop is hp dv6 2164 TX.
The integrated mic has been working very fine for almost 2 years now. I use it to chat in yahoo messenger.
But suddenly it has stopped working. I ve the latest updates, the dafault devices are all correct.
The mic doesnt work anywhere, not just yahoo.
With windows sound recorder i couldnt record anything, but when i tapped the mic area it records the tap but that too very noisy. An external mic connected and set to default works fine with the laptop.
I ve tried uninstalling and re installing the drivers, disabled all enhancements, nothing seems to work.
Can anybody plz help me with this ??

1.Many of the mics on these laptops seem problematic.I have one laptop which is about 3 years old now and the mic has never worked from day 1, just would not even pick up voice. Everything else I love about it and it runs great so I lived with it.
2.I have seen numerous problems posted about Norton 360.Just today a poster uninstalled it to do a fresh install and now his machine won't boot. I suggest downloading the Norton Uninstall Tool to be sure you have a clean removal.
3.Download and Save the latest HP Support Assisant Go to Control Panel, Programs & Features and uninstall old HP SA. Restart the machine and use the downloaded file to reinstall.

  • Integrated mic Not Working

I have a N100 3000 System and I can't get my integrated microphone to work. I am running windows Vista and have dowloaded the latest audio drivers. Anyone know what else can I do? Also, does anyone know the model of the integrated microphone?

I have a 3000 N100 (0768) and a similar problem. The audio device is SoundMAX. The mic doesn't work, internal or external. It's my first laptop where two devices are shown - one for playback (HD Audio 0) and one for recording (HD Audio 1). The Properties button for the mic is inactive (grey) and in the volume options it's shown as disabled. I bought the laptop used and don't know if the mic is in order. Is it even possible that only the mic is defective and the rest of the audio device is OK? Can I make it work?

  • Select Until Next Word is broken?  Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow

I don't use Dreamweaver all that often, and this is one reason why.  But it's finally gotten on my nerves long enough that I thought I would ask about it.  What can I do to fix Dreamweaver so that "Select Until Next Word" works as it should—the way it works in EVERY other program on the PLANET???!!  (Windows environment).
Ctrl+Shift+Right Arrow, and the other arrow keys work correctly in Design View, but NONE of them work at all in Code View.  When I'm developing software, web pages—whatever—Code View is where I spend at least 90% of my time.
So have you long time Dreamweaverers found a workaround?  A fix?  If so, please share!  If not, Adobe, SHAME on you for breaking a convention so common that it's only noticed when it's broken!

Wow!  The first place I looked was in Preferences and then in Keyboard Shortcuts.  I missed that "Code Editing" dropdown.  That's fantastic.  Thank you!
Now I've got Ctrl+Left, Ctrl+Right, Ctrl+Shift+Left and Ctrl+Shift+Right working the way they should.  However, there doesn't seem to be a built-in command for selecting the previous and next paragraphs—or block-level element, I suppose in the case of the Code Editor.  Again Ctrl+Shift+Up (select previous paragraph) and Ctrl+Shift+Down (select next paragraph) are fairly standard in any application I can think of.  These commands are so standard that I really only notice when they're NOT present (which is really only in Adobe Dreamweaver).
Any idea how I might implement a workaround for those?

  • ISight broken after 2010-005 OS X 10.6.4 security update

I've looked around everywhere for a solution, but absolutely nothing I've tried so far has worked, so I think this might be an issue with the new security update. After installing security update 2010-005 on my MacBook Pro with OS X 10.6.4, iSight no longer functions with third-party applications. Skype crashes immediately upon attempting load my video during a video call or opening the video preference pane, and ManyCam quits as soon as it opens. I also updated my other MacBook with OS X 10.5.8, but it has had no issues with iSight and third-party applications.

    Welcome to Discussions, dr trrbl
I am using the latest software, including SU 2010-005 on my MBP. Its iSight works fine with my Apple apps. (I don't use any third-party software that can use webcams, so I cannot test that.)
    (1) If you have not used Disk Utility to repair permissions since you installed the update, restart Mac and repair permissions now. Then test your iSight again. If your problem remains, try the normal iSight troubleshooting process:
    (2) For any iSight problems, first try restarting the Mac. If the problems persist, try all relevant suggestions from:
      http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090
You can use QuickTime X and iMovie to test whether your iSight works with Apple apps. Test with only one app open at a time; i.e., test each app one-at-a-time before you try ManyCam.
If your iSight problem still occurs in more than one app and more than one user account, the reset suggested in the Troubleshooting app often restores proper function of inbuilt iSight.
However, if your built-in iSight still does not work after carefully following all the suggestions in the "How to Troubleshoot iSight" article, and if iSight does not show as a USB hardware device in your Mac's System Profiler utility, yours is most likely a hardware problem. In that case, contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.
    (3) If your iSight is recognized in System Profiler but does not work with any app in any user account you test, you may have had a bad download or install of SU2010-005. Try reinstalling as follows:
     • Restart Mac.
     • Repair permissions.
     • Download and install Security Update 2010-005 (Snow Leopard - Client)
        http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1094/en_US/SecUpd2010-005Snow.dmg
     • After the restart that completes the install, repair permissions again.
Then test iSight one more time using the Troubleshooting method. It should work.
    (4) If you only have trouble with third-party apps, check their web sites for possible known-issues or later compatibility version updates.
We will watch for your status update.

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    http://h30642.www3.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp59501-60000/sp59649.exe
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
    When complete,restart the notebook.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' ( or Speakers/HP ) once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button.
Restart the notebook again before checking if the microphone now functions correctly.
    Regards,

  • Integration between Lightroom and Photoshop broken

It will almost inevitably turn out that I'm missing something glaringly obvious, but since upgrading to Lightroom 5.5 and Photoshop CC 2014, my photos are losing their LR adjustments when sent to PS. I'm no longer asked how I want the RAW files rendered, and resetting the warning dialogues in both applications has had no effect. I've been using PS and LR together for a couple of years now, and have never seen this problem.
    Steve

Well, i have fixed it for now — just removed the 5.5  and reinstalled 5.4, which seems to be working fine with Photoshop CC 2014.
Waiting for a fix now is not so bad

  • T61- Cant get Integrated Mic Working

i just got the laptop yesterday and i checked the microphones options and everything seems okay but when i test it, it wont work. Is there a button on the keyboard or something to turn it on or wat?

I had the same problem and it was solved by downloading the latest audio driver from lenovo site.. it might seems that the driver is installed but actually it was just the generic driver from microsoft. You need the soundmax driver to be installed.

  • The cable to my integrated webcam/mic broke

I posted a problem about my integrated webcam/mic not working a few months ago. I was looking for the manul so i could take it apart and look at the cable to make sure it was pluged in.  I didn't have time to do this until today. When i did I found that one of the wires (the black one) that connect the webcam/mic were broken, I'm guessing this got broken when my fan was relpaced. I am wondering what this wire/connection is called and if it would be cheaper to buy a new one and install it or if I should just buy an external mic and webcam? The pictures of the wire and  the link to my original post is below:    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Hardware-problem-with-integrated-mic-and-webcam/td-p/5094095

  • Dual 1.25 MDD audio/mic input jack broken--Need replacement parts??

Hello. I'm in need of the audio input/output 1/4" jacks on the rear of the logic board of my Mac dual 1.25 Mirror Door Drive tower. They appear to be assembled in one unit. It has "312HB" markings on it. Somehow the Mic input has physically broken and will not keep the 1/4" mic plugged in. Apple told me that I need to replace the entire board. I know that's not true. Everything works fine. I just don't have any audio/mic input. Does anyone know where I might find a replacement part or maybe even a junk logic board that I can grab the jack from and solder it onto my board? I've torn apart all my ancient PCs out in the shed and they don't have the same type units. Any help or tips would be great.
    Thanks much,
    Robert

I had started this quest when I found out that I could get several other brands of webcams other than the iSight. The problem is that most of the ones that I saw that did have a built in mic, needed to still be input into the audio in. I think I solved it tho. I finally won an iSight on ebay whch is supposed to have an internal mic and runs thru the firewire. I probably spent way too much but I know it's worth it to not have to deal with the headaches. The plug still bugs the heck out of me tho. I just always have to have everything in tip top shape.

  • No mic in iChat with iSight Cam

My buddy recently got an iMac. I have an old external iSight USB cam. When we're in iChat, I can hear him, but he cannot hear me.
I've checked the sound preferences, and they seem fine (mic set to iSight cam, etc.)
    Any ideas?
    Dan

    Hi,
The External iSight is in fact firewire.
    It does include a Mic.
This as you say should be set in System Preferences > Sound > input as the device and in iChat menu > Preferences > Video Section in the Microphone Drop down.
The blue bar in System Preferences should get to somewhere between half and three-quarters way to the right hand side when you talk.
You should also see a green bar in the iChat Preferences.
Make sure the Microphone Enabled item in the Video menu is ticked as well.

  • Disabled built-in mic

Hi. I have a mac mini MC815BZ/A which has a built-in mic, but when I enter on garage band the program says that there are none "integrated MIDI in". Also, all the system doesn`t detect the presence of a integrated mic. But it's not all the problem: when I connect an external mic the system doesn't detect it. Is it possible that the hardware related to sound is broken? Or... Is it possible that the driver isn't working?

BDAqua. Thank you very much for your concern about my problem, but I just solved it! Or better, an Apple technician helped me. It was just a misunderstanding. There is no built-in mic in a mac mini, but an audio-in ("entrada de áudio") and and audio-out ("saída de áudio").
One cannot insert a simple microphone on the audio-in, but a mic with four stripes, like nokia's cellphones:
Once you connect such a phone on the audio-out hole, you'll be able to both listen and speak throught the headset.
After that, my "Applications> Utilities > Audio midi setup" showed a new section called "microfone integrado", i.e. integrated mic:
Hence, I was able to move "principal" to the right.
Besides that, I could not tet skype capturing my voice... But I think it's subject for a new topic.
Thank you very much for your help!
