Integrated social sharing via custom URLs rather than folio renditions

We publish a free magazine on the iPad, and we have the same content available for free on our website. We would like to send all sharing traffic from the iPad to our website content, rather than to the iPad app content via folio renditions.
Currently, we do this by coding buttons on each iPad page that, when tapped, take people to the corresponding HTML content via Twitter and Facebook sharer URLs. Naturally, we would prefer if this could be done through the "Sharing Icon" in the viewer.
Is there a way to configure the viewer to send people to our custom URLs for Facebook, Twitter & Email?

Join conference via Lync call rather than Call Me At

We have deployed Lync Server 2013 and are just beginning to deploy it in small doses to portions of the organization. We are using a combination of Lync 2010 and 2013 for clients. This post is regarding the Lync 2013 client.
We use Lync with Cisco telephony via Remote Call Control. We do have PC-to-PC calling enabled in addition to RCC (the Telephony setting in Lync Control Panel on the user accounts is "Remote Call Control"). We are not using Enterprise
Voice.
After deploying Lync as simply an IM + telephony client, we have begun to focus on rolling out the web conferencing functionality. In doing so, we have noticed strange behavior which I describe below.
Let us assume that someone other than me creates web conference by selecting two people, including me, in their Lync contacts list in the client, right clicks, and selects "Start a conference all" and then chooses "Lync call". I
see a Lync toast notification appear, inviting me to a conference. It says the conference organizer's name and says "Conference Call". If I click the toast to accept the conference, my Cisco telephone extension immediately begins to ring.
In the meantime, in the Lync conference in the client I see "Join Conference Call" and "Other". If I answer answer my telephone extension or push the Join Conference Call button, I am successfully joined to the Lync audio conference
and can speak with anyone else that joined the conference, whether they are using Lync audio or Cisco telephony.
The problem is that there are cases where we want to do a video conference. I am aware that can only be done if using Lync audio rather than the Cisco telephony. I can disconnect from the conference call by hanging up my Cisco extension.
When I do so, the Lync conference in the client shows a notification that gives me the option to rejoin the conference. The "Rejoin" button has a down arrow, and if I expand it I can select "Rejoin using Lync Call" and if I do that
I can now see others' webcams and can share my own webcam with the conference.
My question is: how can I elect to join the conference in the first place with a Lync call rather than having the Lync conference bridge dial my Cisco extension? There does not seem to be a way to do this that we can get to work. For instance,
I mentioned that after I have clicked the Lync toast notification after being added to the conference and my Cisco phone begins ringing that I see the options "Join Conference Call" and "Other" in Lync client. If I open the Other
options, I see "Join using Lync Call" as an option. If I select that option, my Cisco phone answers the call and I am joined to the Lync audio conference with my Cisco phone and not Lync audio.
Please note that I already checked the Phone section in the Lync 2013 client options and the box "Before I join meetings, ask which audio device I want to use" is checked and the "Join meeting audio" drop-down box is set to "Lync".

Sorry, I misread your question and now see that I did not pre-emptively answer it. I just tested it and unchecked the box "Before I join meetings, ask which audio device I want to use" and made sure "Join meeting audio" was set to "Lync". Even
after doing so, the behavior is the same: the Cisco phone automatically rings and any action to join the conference results in the Cisco phone extension being picked up.
Basically, it seems that if you use that "Start a Conference Call" option from the Lync contacts list, the Lync preferences set in the recipients' Lync clients are ignored. If you schedule a Lync conference via Outlook or people use the Lync meeting
URL in their Internet browser, it does respect the preferences correctly. It seems like it might be a bug.
I would be interested if any other Lync Server 2013 users with Lync client 2013 and using RCC could repeat my tests and see if they have the same issue.

Launch application via run menu rather than dos...possible?

we're trying to find a way to launch a application, such as MS Word, from our java app via the run menu in start menu, rather than through dos. currently our program reads the start menu and gets the lnk file paths, the problems is that it displays them as:
C:\WIN98_SE\start menu\programs\Microsoft Word.lnk
but dos needs them as:
C:\WIN98_SE\startm~1\programs\Micros~3.lnk
so to execute it from java we would need to write it as:
Runtime.getRuntime().exec("start C:\\WIN98_SE\\startm~1\\programs\\MICROS~3.lnk");
since we're doing this dynamically we can't be sure if the user will have office professional, home, or any other version, so this means that for some micros~3 might be micros~1, not sure which number will be attached at the end. but if we are able to launch it from the run command in the start menu then typing:
C:\WIN98_SE\start menu\programs\Microsoft Word.lnk
will work.

/C - Carries out the command specified by string and then terminates
I tested only the second one because I don't have access to a win98 system.

Providing JNDI service via custom URL

I have a library which offers access via a JNDI interface and I'm currently trying to make it easy for an application programmer to get at my objects.
Ideally I want the application programmer to have to do nothing more than:

DirContext ctx = ictx.lookup("figis://name:password@myhost/mycontext");I've built a class which I've called com.sun.jndi.url.figis.figisURLContextFactory which should hook in to the URL factory search without special environment stuff.
The problem is that when I do the lookup the code in InitialContext calls NamingManger.hasInitialContextFactoryBuilder() which returns "true" and, therefore, if goes on to look for an intial context factory instead of finding one in by URL prefix. The odd thing is that the first time I tried to run my example program it actually seemed to find my own URLContextFactory.
Why is NamingManager reporting a InitialContextFactoryBuilder? Can I stop it.

I think I've cracked it. It appears the system couldn't find my URLContextFactory and reverted to looking
for a factory class in the environmnent. Seems to be picking up my context OK now.

History Search by URL (rather than by keywords)

Is it possible to search the Safari history list by URL? For instances, I want to search (and delete) anything relating to mail.yahoo.com or facebook.com.
If we use the keyword search, it'll bring up any pages that contain mail.yahoo.com (or even just partial of those words). This search result is rather meaningless, for the task anyway.

Not sure if this is what you are trying to do but have you tried Spotlight? Make sure your Spotlight search criteria is set up correctly first.
Open System Preferences / Spotlight. Make sure Webpages is selected.

Adobe seem rather restrictive in their ability to accept payment methods. Different countries often favour different payment methods, and credit card only is a bit US-centric.

Social Sharing Publication url

We have submitted a multi-folio app for approval couple of days back.
The magazine issues we are planning to publish are free to download. During the process of app creation through 'DPS App builder', we have setup up social sharing through email, twitter and copy link.
Now, in the DPS App builder wizard, it asked for 'publication url' in which we have mentioned the website address for the magazine.
My question is, when people share the article how is our website address relevant ? should we have the folio hosted on our website in order to have this enabled ? or will it be shared directly through the DPS server ?
When we tried the sharing feature on dev app on the ipad, it just took us directly to our website and not the article which is hosted in DPS ?
Did we do something wrong ? or will it just work when the app is in production ?

All articles are protected by default, therefore social sharing to work, your articles has to be un-protected. You control those from the Folio producer dashbaord.

When I "bookmark all tabs" into a bookmark folder, the webpage URLs are used rather than the wepage TITLES and for me this causes a problem.

Using Firefox 34.0 on Ubuntu.
To expand on my particular problem, I use this feature exclusively for going over many days of TV/radio demand services, opening all of them in different tabs, and then at the end 'bookmark all tabs', and store them in a bookmarks folder.
The bookmarks are all displayed as URLs rather than webpage titles. Most of the TV/radio sites I look at have meaningless URLs (the titles are meaningful) so when I look in the folder I cannot quickly browse by bookmarks, I have to open every one individually to see what it is.
THis is different behaviour when I individually bookmark single pages and store it on the bookmark toolbar or other folder. Then the webpage title is displayed, which is the desired behaviour.

Hi and thanks for your reply. However, I get URLs instead of names even if I've visted the tabs and they've loaded.
So no solution for me yet. But your reply has opened up the murky world of Mozilla preferences, and by searching (on google) for bookmark preferences I've found someone on Mozillazine forums with a similar issue to mine (I didn't notice this alternative source of help when I was registering for the standard mozilla support)

Unfortunately, this mozillazine thread doesn't end in a solution. I've done some brief and unadvised fiddling of preferences without success. Creating a custom app to proof social sharing

I have created a couple different custom apps to try to proof social sharing and I have created a folio with metered and free articles and published it private and free, and I have read everything (I think). I cannot get the navigation bar to show the "heads up display" for social sharing. Why?

Folios published as private won't appear in your custom viewer app. You need to publish the folios as public, and you need to enable social sharing in both DPS App Builder and in the application account (using the Account Admin tool).

Pinterest still blocked, even after adding to custom URL exception

In WSA I have a custom URL list for exception which are allowed from Proxy.
I have added pinterest.com in the exceptions list. For some users website work perfectly fine via proxy, but the users which are using the global policy cannot open this website. In global policy that custom URL is allowed, even policy trace with that AD users shows that URL is allowed via custom URL list but user gets proxy error denied?
Is there something I am missing in configuration?

Hi Sakun,
the best way to troubleshoot this kind of issue is to grep/tail logs from WSA, policy trace is not always accurate. So :
- connect to your WSA via ssh and type the 'grep' command;
- at the following prompt select 'accesslogs'
- at the prompt Enter the regular expression to grep insert the ip address of a user that cannot display the website
- at the prompt Do you want this search to be case insensitive? [Y]> press enter
- at the prompt Do you want to search for non-matching lines? [N]> press enter
- at the prompt Do you want to tail the logs? [N]> type 'y' and press enter
- at the prompt Do you want to paginate the output? [N]> press enter
then from the client with ip address you inserted before try to connect to pinterest, on WSA you will see the logs, to stop log collection press CTRL+C . Post here the output of the logs.

Social Sharing in Beta iOS app?

We have an ipad dps app set up for social sharing. I believe everything is set up properly within the DPS app builder. I uploaded the build to iTunes Connect and we are doing beta testing on the app. The social sharing doesn't seem to be working within the folios. Should it be working in the beta test app? Please advise ASAP. Thanks.

Yes definitely working in developer Apps too.
Make sure you have enabled the "Web Viewer" checkbox in the Administration panel + your articles should not be protected if you intend to share them.

It's a pitty social sharing is only possible in multi-folio apps...
If you send a screenshot with social sharing, is this an actual screenshot.
If I use in an article the cameraAPI, the user takes a new photo and shares this article; is the screenshot with the new photo in it?

That's what I expected... I hoped otherwise.

Wil the print the actual article and only works in multi-folio apps?

Post to a Session rather than DB via ADDT

Is there the means to Post to a Session via the ADDT ?
I've been using the extensions for a month or so and find the means to update Database values a breeze but I do not see any options for dealing with a Session value.
I've got a page the does a Horizontal Looper and displays 6 products per page. I want to have the ability to update a Session to save selected models much like a shopping cart. Then on a final checkout page I would like to display the results and then allow a checkbox for each value saved. Deselecting a checkbox removes it from the values submitted via email to a predetermined address.
I'm using a Javascript function to post the value of a selection via a URL String and then displaying that value on a pop-up page to confirm their addition to the session. So far no problems.
But now I want to take the known value and insert it into a running session that will store all the inserted values.
Do I have to hand code this or is there an extension value I am not seeing or can I specify a Session and post to that rather than the DB table?
Or is the case that I should be using a temp table in the DB to store these values and then use a recordset to display the saved values?
Basically I do not want to commit the values until I allow the user to review and manage their saved items via checkboxes.
Any tutorials on this or advice from others that have done something similar , perhaps in a shopping cart?

It´s users such as you who might get heard, not me -- I don´t have anyone´s ear when it comes to considering additional features or not.
However, dedicated shopping carts might still be the better & more professional solution IMHO -- retrieving cookies or session variables with javascript is quite insecure/unreliable in itself, I personally wouldn´t consider that.
I thought about your scenario some more, and it´s clear you would need a better and unique detection of the current user who might not even have an account at your site, means who can´t be detected via ADDT´s "kt_login_id" session variable :: when user X enters your home-made "shopping cart", you can create a random numeric ID and assign this one to a session variable -- this one can be used in whatever other cart page and finally also stored in the DB respectively (on the checkout page) used for creating the query which will send the list of ordered items and a confirmation using ADDT´s Send Email behaviour. The Temp DB method seems like it could have problems with clean up
Is "cleaning up" really the the right thing to do ? After all, you respectively the customer might want to track his ordering transactions done in the past.

Any way to link to a file in Catalyst, rather than a URL or state?

Given the 20 page limitation, I'm having to build my prototype in chunks, but so far have been unable to find a way to link up the various prototypes. Does anyone know of a way to add a link to a local file rather than a live URL or simply another state within the same prototype? Even in code view it seems I'm unable to delete the "http://" that it adds automatically to links...

Many people can solve their problems with the 20 page limit using custom components. You should check out this thread

It is possible to use the onClick -> go to State and set states on a custom component or any of its subcomponents.
Catalyst does not currently support linking to a local files.
