Integrated WWAN LTE/4g

Which late model HP laptops have integrated WWAN  for 4G/LTE  broadband.

markussa wrote:
when will there be a wwan module for the think pad t410 that supports LTE / 4g Internet
Not before one of the major WWAN mini-PCI-E card suppliers come out with one!
My guess is that wont happen until some time during 2011.  The global population of working LTE systems is still quite small, with a lot of carriers not scheduling implementation until 2011 timeframes.

  • T61 - WWAN does not connect when resuming from sleep mode

    Hi.
I have a T61 with integrated WWAN, which works perfectly - except I use sleep mode a lot, and when i resume from sleep mode, WWAN doesn't connect, I always get the same error - IP configuration failed. If I restart my OS, WWAN works normally again.
So far i have tried on Windows XP, Vista 32, Vista 64 and Windows 7 32 bit - always the same!
I connect via Access Connections, maybe there is a known issue?
    Thank you, B

This bugs me as well.  With the new Verizon software I just installed, it says "Adapter Disabled" when I resume from sleep.
I suspect a driver bug that needs to be adressed.
I use Vista Business 32bit, but had the same problem with XP.

  • WWAN-capable laptops

I have noticed that most of the questions in this forum are Jetpack-related. Any discussion of mobile broadband-connected laptops? To be specific, laptops with an integrated WWAN card along with an integrated WiFi card. i have a Dell Latitude E4200 that is WWAN-capable. The Dell card I'm looking at is the Dell Wireless 5720; it's only 3G.

    Hey lenssd9,
No, you would not need any drivers until you installed a WWAN device. A device driver for the WWAN card would become necessary if you were to install a WWAN Card, such as the Gobi 3000 WWAN. (This is a compatible WWAN card is an option for your machine.)
Hope that clears that up for you. Thank you for being a part of the Lenovo Community!

  • T440s - one year after

Since it's back to school/college time a friend asked me what laptop to
buy and my opinion of the T440s I'm using now for one year. I wrote him
back the following, which may also be interesting for some of you:
    *** the good ***
    - The formfactor.
~1.5kg is IMHO the upper limit for a laptop and this is fine.
I really don't care about thickness. And I like the "sharp" edges.
    - The snug fit of the battery, nothing sticks out.
I like it when protection sleeves "just fit".
    - The HD screen.
The picture is great - but maybe I was just lucky to get an AUO panel.
    - The keyboard.
I like it overall. There appear to be different versions, the keys on
mine feel just fine. I like the position of PageUp/Down on the side of
the cursor keys. I would like to have "delete" also somewhere near... hmmm.
    - Integrated WWAN.
      Best money ever spent.
    - Integrated smartcard reader.
Thank you for supporting easy security on the go!
This is a thing I miss in smaller laptops the most and I don't want
to carry around a USB reader.
    - During low/medium CPU loads fan does not run. So when one just does e.g.
text editing work you can easily do this in bed and not worry that the fan
      sucks up dust fast.
    *** the meh ***
    - Only one light, on the power button.
Can I have please at least another to indicate current (de-)charging status?
    - I miss the thinklight, but the backlit keyboard does its job.
    - The speakers/headphones are noisy. When audio is off you don't hear anything,
but if one hears audio you constantly hear a background hiss. I'm aware that
with such tight integration some electric interference is possible, however
I'm still disappointed compared to my previous laptops.
    - The keyboard.
Who had the glorious idea to combine two rows of keys into one and to make media
keys the default instead of F-keys?
So I set F-keys as default. Now my keyboard has 3 lights always on:
F-lock, audio mute and microphone mute. This is annoying.
    - The keyboard wears out over time. Now, after about one years, the keys begin
to feel a bit mushy. Its still ok, but... well, ask me in a year again.
    - The keyboard. It gets greasy very fast and in summer it is impossible not
to sweat. So one has to clean it very often, or the screen gets dirty
from the keys also fast. Unfortunately, cleaning the keyboard is delicate
as wiping sideways one has to be careful to not apply too much force.
    - Battery length.
I would prefer a longer battery runtime. I would accept more weight and
a thicker machine - however, no batteries which stick out at the back.
Maybe a thin battery slice at the bottom?
    - Bottom cover.
Removing the bottom cover and servicing the machine is painful. The plastic
latches break too easily. My machine had the HDD replaced with a SDD, then
the WWAN was installed, then the clickpad broke and had to be serviced.
Every time another latch broke (yes, also by the Lenovo serviceman...) and
now it does not close properly on one side.
Ok, one seldom opens the machine, but still.... this can be done better,
      see other brands.
    - My screen has developed a white dot.
I very much care for my machine and always transport it in a neoprene sleeve,
so I'm quite sure no force was applied. But it's in a corner of the screen,
      so I don't care much.
    - My Samsung 840 Pro almost got killed (only half-erased, haha...). It's the
SSD's firmware fault, but still, such a thing should not happen with such a
      popular device on the market.
    - I was just lucky to not trip on any of the other BIOS suicide bugs, like
booting an UEFI Linux... no one in quality control tried Linux before shipping?
    - Lenovo service hotline is very friendly. However in Europe they appear to
be far away in an Eastern country. The phone line is always noisy and even
spelling one's own Email address does not assure that it is recorded
correctly. The service line works, but is a pain.
    - Replacing the back battery while the machine is on sometimes works, sometimes
not. If not, a workaround is to hibernate to ram, wake up again and then it
gets detected. Again, why are machines shipping with such a basic bug?
    *** the bad ***
    - Build quality.
We bought several machines end of 2013/beginning of 2014.
Three quarters of them developed a hardware problem (screen bezel, mainboard
faulty, palm rest broken, etc.) and had to be serviced (one was nearly half
a year in depot for repair!)
In early 2014 our sysadmins blacklisted Lenovos of the *40 series as they
produced just too much work for them. Now no one gets a Lenovo unless one
has a _very good_ reason and personally speaks to admins.
We now buy all our laptops from a different brand.
Many years ago a friend proudly showed me his IBM Thinkpad. He deliberately
shoved it off the table on the floor. I was shocked, but he shrugged his
shoulders and said "they are built to survive that". Today, IMHO the
Thinkpads are no longer better than other brands.
    - Screen.
My screen has the known production defect that the right bezel comes off.
I have on-site service so this should be fixable under warranty easily,
however I'm too afraid to call Lenovo for a replacement because I might
get a LG panel. Lenovo is earning money because customers are afraid to
      call service they paid for.
    - The clickpad. And no hardware mouse buttons.
      Seriously, what are/were they thinking?
If you just need to left-click from time to time stationary at a desk it is
fine. All other uses are a constant pain. Right clicks, middle clicks,
combination of clicks, click and drag, in the train, in a plane, anywhere
mobile.... essentially every mobility use case a work laptop is intended for.
Also, by design, a huge pad which one has to mechanically click down is
just a stupid idea. You never get any good precision with that in the long
run, and the resulting noise in a conference meeting - embarrassing.
Also, the constant software driver issues.... seriously?
Make it smaller, no pressing down of whole pad, silent, 3 hardware buttons...
      ...make it "just work"!
    ....ok I stop now...
Overall, this will probably be my last Thinkpad (after many years).
As soon as the new Broadwell generation comes I will get rid of this thing.
Thinkpads are no more premium build quality than any other brand and the
clickpad was the last issue which essentially makes buying another Thinkpad
    impossible.
    Hope this rant helps someone...
...and everything is IMHO of course, your views may differ and I respect that.

Are you asking how much the Creative Cloud Photography Plan will cost after the initial year? AFAIK, it'll still be $9.99 USD/month (or $119.88/year), minus inflation.

    Hello mate,
On my T43 i never succeed to use access connections to manage a usb modem. I think the integrated WWAN is the only option to use access connections.

  • W510 Mobile Broadband How-To?

    Greetings,
I just got a W510 and noticed the SIM card slot on the back, under the battery.
I put the SIM card from my cell in, and booted back up - but I didn't see any options for the mobile broadband.
So how the heck does this whole setup work?
I didn't see a user manual with the laptop.

    ao125, welcome to the forum,
not all W510 system have integrated WWAN, maybe yours doesn't? It may however be upgradeable. If you enter your  Type and Model Number on this site (right column in the box for select your system), you will then be presented with a description of your main components and be able to see if it has WWAN, is upgradeable or doesn't have it.
If you are unsure, post your type and model number here and other members will surely be able to help. Please do NOT post your s/n. If the model number ends in CTO there should be another number underneath the CTO, please post that.
    Regards

    Hello All
I have a customer that has several sites all over the world and they want to use 3G and possibly 4G (where available) as  a backup vpn solution.
I need some assistance/ guidance in configuring the cellular radio and configuring the vpn (dynamic ip)to work over the wwan.
Countries involved are France, Spain, Australia, Thailand and Malaysia.
I understand that I will need the APN credentials from the service provider. Is this normally the same for 3g and 4g?
Do I get chat scripts from them too?
My vpn gateway in the HQ is a Cisco multi-context asa so I can't configure remote access as its not supported yet. Can I possibly use the 1921 router(4lte hwic installed) at the sites as a  hardware client?
I have seen the following urls. One has the 3g router as a "remote access" vpn but I guess this won't work in my scenario.
The other is between ios router and asa which I think will work. I don't need nat on the 3g/4g router as all traffic will be using the vpn.

  • WWAN question

I am considering getting a Fujitsui Life Book T731.  It is a touch laptop.  The one I want to get is claimed to have Verizon 3G WWAN capability.  Does this mean I can take it to the Verizon Wireless store and have it activated by purchasing a dedicated line without using a mobile hotspot?  I am already with V-Wireless and have a tablet.  I am looking for the same kind of connectivity as we experience with the Samsung tablet we have.  We are in a rural area and the tablet works all the way from 4G to 1G.  We tried to set the tablet up as a hotspot, but it didn't work great with an old Mac laptop.  I know the laptop can pick up wireless because it has worked with linksys.  The problem with the hotspot is that when the signal goes below 4G LTE, the hotspot doesn't seem to work or is very slow.
    Thank you

OOPS I just realised (looking at part 86 of the hardware maintenance manual) that there are TWO mini pci-e slots :*)
I should be good now! Thanks!

  • Blackberry Playbook 4G LTE Software update.to 2.1

Further to my post 2 weeks ago.
I like my BB PB but:...........................
1)Wish that Rogers had told me at my no contract  purchase, or someone at Blackberry, after two weeks of fooling around with it, that I had to ALSO buy airtime with Rogers (After paying the $549.00 plus tax ) to get updates.
2)BTW, Rogers has not got LTE in my city, only 4G. I have just connected with MTS, (only LTE ISP), here in Winnipeg Manitoba and the speed of the LTE is great, blinding fast. However since this 4G LTE is BRANDED (according to BB) with Rogers , no 2.1 update is available. (Yes they do say that on the website now).
3)After speaking with a person(a BB support  adviser(East coast of Canada) I found out that they do have many unhappy customers and they are working on future changes(No good for me now).
    4)Next step,
I will get a sim card at Rogers, and see if I can get the updates.
Hopefully all this is not a waste of time.
By the way I am getting the following error whe I try to connect via LTE on my LTE carrier
"There was an error conneting to the update server. Please try again later (65792)"
Not happy with all those phone calls I made, their support group is not technical and reads off the script, (to be fair thats what most companies are doing),, and BB has not returned my emails asking for asistance. in two days.
Would be nice to speak to someone at BB for problem solving
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Yes, finally I have the 2.1 update. Actually was pretty much  what Blackberry had stated, although I found it hard to belive they would actually force people to go to the provider that they bought their 4G LTE from. Never the less, the 4G LTE I have has the lates updates. Solution was after all, going to Rogers where I had bought the 4G LTE from (bought without contract), and getting them to put in a Sim card, signing up to a monthly plan.then just hooking up my USB cable to my desktop and doing an update through the Desktop. The integral part being the activated Sim card from Rogers. So praise be. Its done. Thanks all for your assistance.

  • Google Hangouts SMS integration

Does anyone know if the new Google Hangouts will support SMS integration for the Tablet Z? I have a Tablet Z and an Xperia Z. Hangouts with SMS integration works great on the phone and it would be awesome if I were also able to use it on my Tablet. I like the unified platform it provides. My Tablet is an LTE one so it can do SMS.

I'm not sure if they will add support for out tablet as well, but I hope so.

  • XPERIA with integrated DAB+ radio

When will there be XPERIAs with integrated DAB+ radio available in Europe? For iOS there are at least accessories available. I would prefer to have built in DAB+. SONY has released DAB+ tuners in compact Hifi sets and in portable radios. Given that DAB+ is primarily targeted at mobile reception it seems weird that DAB+ is not available cell phones. It would also be a great way to differentiate the product given that other vendors do not have solutions at this point. For the UK it seems an imperative to have at least DAB included, for Germany DAB+ tuners would certainly raise awareness of teh XPERIA brand among younger people...
So when will there be XPERIAs with DAB+ (would like to have it with LTE in one set)?

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately we don't have any phones that supports DAB+ at the moment but I will forward your feedback about this.

  • X220 integrated camera Windows 8.1 not showing up

    Hello,
Im using X220 with Windows 8.1 Pro.
Under Fn + F6 i have TouchPad, Wireless, Battery, Audio
    I installed:
    - Lenovo Power Management Driver 1.67.04.05
    - Lenovo Settings Dependency Package 2.2.0.28
    - Lenovo Solution Center 2.4.003.000
    - Lenovo System Update 5.06.0016
    - On Screen Display 6.71.00
    - Ricoh_media_driver_v2.22.18.01
    - ThinkPad UltraNav Driver 16.2.19.14
    - ThinkVantage Active Protection System 1.79.00.03
    And from Microsoft Store:
    - Lenovo Settings - which run when i hit fn+f6
Non of driver updater find the built-in camera, same with Deviace Manager.
Lenovo System Update dont download any camera related software.
I understand that somekind of driver need to be installed to be able to turn on the camer.
But non i found activate it.
From what I read it should be in Lenovo Settings with Audio settings, but sadly nothing there.
When I start the build in app "camera" from Windows, it tells me there is no atached camera.
Those are the Lenovo x220 related installed application that showed up in Add/Remove Software.
Sadly the only camera driver from Lenovo page which is: Integrated Camera Driver for Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit), Vista (32-bit, 64-bit), XP - ThinkPad , dosn't help.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you for confirming.
Here's what I get for your MTM:
    ThinkPad X220 (4291-TGY)
    i5-2540M(2.6GHz), 4GB RAM, 320GB 7200rpm HD, 12.5in 1366x768 LCD, Intel HD Graphics,
    Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN option,Bluetooth, 1Gb Ethernet,UltraNav, Secure Chip, 6c Li-Ion,Win7 Pro 32
I notice that there is no mention of a camera. Are you sure your X220 has the physical device installed?
If you use your MTM and your serial number here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/ibasepartslookup
you should get back a listing of the components installed in your machine at its build. The list can be somewhat cryptic, so please feel free to post it back here and we can dig further.

I've got an EHWIC-4G-LTE-V card in a 2921 router and am only able to connect via 1xRTT. Can someone take a look at the output below and provide some insight as to why I can't connect via LTE? Thank you.
