Integrating a link to .swf (on same computer) from powerpoint?

This is a bit "off base," but I thought someone here may be able to help. I am working on some interactive animations for an upcoming meeting. Ideally, I would love to be able to have an interactive slide within powerpoint, however – don't think that is even possible.
That being said, I would like to place a link within a powerpoint presentation, so that when you click it, it launches a browser window and displays the .swf – preferably not online, just within a browser window.
Currently, when I try this, it is trying to open up flash to read the .swf, anyone have any experience with something like this?

I don't know what's involved or limited with embedding Flash in a PP presentation... If it were mine to conquer, I'd probably avoid PP and just use Flash for the presentation.
If you want to link to a browser then you need to link to an html web page containing the Flash content, not an swf file.  That will trigger opening a browser.  If you target the link at the swf file it should open the Flash Player, not the Flash editing software, though it may kick and scream along the way regarding security issues.

I used to go on several websites without a problem, one being www.udel.edu/udsis   but now all of a sudden when I try to open these websites it says "Safari can't connect to server". At first I thought my computer had the problem, but when I tried the other mac in my house I had the same issue. The next day I visited family in another state and brought my computer with me, I typed those website addresses in and they opened without a problem. But now I'm back at home and I still can't open those websites. What gives?

Leads one to suspect an ISP issue. Yours. Perhaps for the moment though. In any case I like to use OpenDNS servers for safety and speed.

  • Link to SWF or HTML file from LMS?

    Hello,
Can someone please tell me how I should link to the captivate file from LMS.  Is it better to link to the SWF file or the HTML file (or in this case, the HTML full-screen file)?
I would also appreciate it if you could tell me why one file is better than the other to link to from LMS.
    Thank you,
    Justin

If you are using an LMS for the purpose of tracking data about the user's interaction with your course, it will be either using SCORM or AICC standard to achieve that.  In both cases you need the HTM file that Captivate publishes because there is quite a lot of JavaScript involved in the API communication between the course modules and the LMS.  If you were only uploading the SWF file, the LMS wouldn't be able to "talk" to your course.
In the case of SCORM, you upload your course as a zip file that contains everything it needs to operate and communicate with the LMS.  This zip file, and all the files it contains, is what the LMS expects.
Having said this, there are some pseudo LMS systems out there that are really more akin to content management systems (CMS) since all they really do is deliver the files to the user and track the fact that they did so.  They don't read or record scoring coming back from the course too well.  In some cases these types of LMS will expect to get the course as a single file only (because they're more used to courses in the form of PDF files or PPT presentations) and so the SWF file is about the only one you CAN upload to them with any chance of delivering content.  I don't recommend you go for these types of systems.

  • How can I easily manage different libraries of music between my iPad and my iPhone from the same computer?

My 32 GB iPad stores much more data than my 16 GB iPhone... clearly. But I want to be able to easily sync these two seperate devices with two different sets of music from my iTunes. As it stands now, my iPad will always have the same amount of music as my iPhone because my iPhone is maxed out and the two devices are synced on the same computer from the same library. Do you understand where I'm coming from? Let me know if you need clarification.
I want to be able to have my iPhone filled with individual songs, whereas my iPad would have the full albums. There doesn't seem to be an efficient way to do this with one computer. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

It can be done very easily actually. I do it with three different iDevices.
Connect the iDevice to your PC and launch iTunes. Select the iDevice from the left sidebar of the iTunes window. Then click on the Music Tab. Select only the music that you want on that particular iDevice and then sync the device with those selections.
Do the same thing with the other iDevice. When you sync with iTunes the next time, iTunes will remember the music that was synced to that device.
Make sure that you uncheck Sync Entire Music Library and check Sync Selected playlists, albums, etc and then select all of the music for each device.
When you make changes to the current configuartion on the iPad - you will have to click on Apply in the lower right corner of the iTunes window.

  • Using two ipods on two Windows accounts for same computer

I am trying to connect and iPod nano but it does not appear in the Devices section of iTunes.  Rather, when I plug in my iPod to my Windows Vista computer, I get an error "The software required for communicating with the iPod is not installed correctly.  Please reinstall iTunes to install the iPod's software.".  It does appear in Windows Explorer.
Yet my daughter has her own (i.e. a second) iPod and iTunes functions properly for her when she accesses it from her windows account.
I have tried unistalling the iTunes software and reinstalling it but I still get the same error in my account.  I have gone through most of the troubleshooting steps in iTunes support but nothing has helped.  Is it not possible to manage two ipods with the same computer from two different accounts or is it something else?
    Any other thoughts?

Apple intentionally made the iPod to work this way to help stem the illegal sharing of copyrighted material which is what you are trying to do.
"i have tried to "transfer purchases from ipod" but this does not work either, even though i have authorised the computer."
Doesn't work that way. It wasn't your iTunes account that purchased the music.

I believe that it is in AirPort Express, and would have to clean it. How do you do that?

You need to use the Express in router mode.. I think you are trying to use it in bridge mode.. but you need to give us a lot more details.. screenshots might help more than anything.

Yes. A single-link DVI connection can't drive that monitor at its maximum resolution.

  • Home Sharing with multiple libraries on same computer?

I'm a total Apple noob, but I couldn't find the answer through search so here goes:
    Setup:
1 Desktop PC with XP running iTunes 10.2
1 user account, but two libraries - 1 for my wife and 1 for me (maybe more later)
    1 iPod Classic for wife
1 iPad2 for me - it's coming in the mail soon, I hope!
    Goal:
Home share from iPad2 with either library over wifi network
    Issue:
iPad isn't here so I haven't tried this, but I understand iTunes has to be running for homesharing to work. If that's true, I'm worried, the iPad2 will only see the open library and not all the libraries on the computer. All the tutorials I've seen show only one library per computer, but that's not my setup.
    Will this work for us?
    Thanks
    RD
P.S. Also looking on way to share playlists between libraries on the same computer. Any links on how to do this?

+.... iTunes has to be running for homesharing to work. If that's true, I'm worried, the iPad2 will only see the open library...+
Yes, that's the way it's going to be. Only one user can have itunes running on windows. If a 2nd user tries to launch itunes there will be an error message saying another user is already running it. Quite the pain. itunes doesn't work with windows fast user switching.

Macs are different, and every user can have their own itunes library running at once.

  • Can two peeps use iChat with different accounts on the same computer?

What do I do to REMOVE an old AIM account and replace it with a new account in IChat?
Can two peeps use iChat with different accounts in the same computer?
(Actually, two people share a laptop, but one of us cannot use her AIM account cuz mine is in iChat already... And, when traveling, I have the computer - and I would like to use iChat on the computer...)

In iChat 4 you can have more than one AIM Valid name logged in at once.
AIM valid = AIM, @mac.com or a MobileMe name.
What you are then stuck with is that iChat is linked to one Buddy Picture and The one Mac User Account's Address Book which may or may not have Full Names, emails details, or a Nickname in iChat 4 linked to the Screen Names.
Whilst it does let you both log in whilst using one Mac User Account there are drawbacks about who uses the keyboard and reading meesages from the other persons Buddies.

  • How Can I Update More Than One Ipod on the Same Computer?

I've had my 30G Ipod since April 2006. For Christmas 2006, I bought my sister a 2G Ipod. I cannot figure out how to put songs on her Ipod as we both share the same computer and Itunes Library. I've already asked Ipod Corporate for help via their FAQ section regarding more than one Ipod operating with the same computer, but their advice (which told me to create a playlist small enough for her Ipod and checked as a shared playlist) did not work for me. I'd really appreciate any help with my problem. Owning an Ipod but being unable to listen to it, as I'm sure many people would agree, is quite annoying.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library and user account.
    b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
    Sharing a Library
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):
Loading songs onto iPod automatically - Windows
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
However since you seem to have a problem with that method you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
    Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists

  • What is the best way to share a iTunes library between 5 users on the same computer?

What is the best way to share a iTunes library between 5 users on the same computer?
Currently I have a common itunes library in a shared folder that each user is linked to.  The problem is that when one user adds music to the shared file, it does not automaticaly appear to other users when they open their iTunes.  They have to go to the shared library and select the new music in order to make it visable in their iTunes.
Would iTunes file shareing fix this problem?
    Thanks

Rick, are you saying that if you try to share a folder outside of home and use sharepoints, then the other mac wont prompt you to log in? Have you tried that? It is hard to believe that is the case
I am sort of saying that. Have you tried it? I know it's hard to believe, but you really need to help us out by trying some steps that you don't believe.
We can't see what your exact situation is. We sort of know what's worked for us out here. Just trying to help you get this going in less than 24 hours!
Sharepoints manages the samba configuration file. It's free software that puts a pretty face on an otherwise cumbersome config file.
    Give it a shot.
windows will not prompt for passwords, I have tried this with multiple computer at home for both vista and xp
As I stated. You will not get prompted on windows, if you have set up sharing in an insecure fashion. You are not using a secured sharing situation.
    No argument with your statement.

  • Multiple itune users on the same computer

Is it possible to have two seperate itunes running on the same computer? My husband and I share a computer and both have ipods. We both have different tastes in music so we would like to be able to access our own itunes instead of having to share a library with all the music together.
He currently has itunes set up with all his music on the computer at home. I have been running my itunes at work and would like to be able to bring my stuff home. Is this possible?

When the iPods belong to different people, there are basically three ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
    a) Sharing a single iTunes library
    b) Creating Multiple Libraries in a single user account
    c) Creating multiple user accounts.
Note: When you are sharing an iTunes library, you don't have to set each iPod to update in the same manner, you can mix and match from the options below as each iPod has it's own update settings
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish): iPod - Syncing Music
Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. You can read more about playlists at these links:
iTunes: Creating playlists of your favorite songs
How to create a Smart Playlist with iTunes
Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod
Loading the iPod shuffle differs slightly but it can still be used with the others, for details have a look at this page: Adding songs to iPod shuffle - Windows
    Multiple Libraries
It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library: Using multiple iTunes libraries -Windows
I don't use Windows so I can't give you a step by step on that one, however I can point you to another web page which should help you out. You can read about Windows user accounts here:

  • How do I prevent a user from opening multiple instances on the same computer?

On the site oldnavyweekly.com there is a .swf that prevents users from opening multiple instances of the site at the same time on the same computer. If you open the site, and try to open it a second time in another window, it won't load. You can't open the site again until the first window is closed. How did they implement this?
From my analysis it is NOT:
    1. Cookies - The block still takes place if you try opening it in IE and also try opening it in Firefox simultaneously.
    2. Flash Cookies - The block still takes place if I disable flash cookies.
    3. IP Based Block - You are not blocked if you open the site on two separate computers with the same outbound IP address. From my analysis, their server does not assist in the block at all.
It seems as if their .swf is creating some kind of global system-wide object that can be detected in other instances of the application on the same machine. How did they implement this?
    Thanks!

    you're welcome.
actually, unless you take an extra step, the first opened swf will close.  if you want the 2nd to close, the initial receiving lc will send a message to sender that causes the sender to close.
