Integrating Flash CS3 with XML

Hello, I done a tutorial from learnflash.com on Integrating
Flash CS3 with XML, and I can't figure out why when the file is
published the scrollbar component doesn't work.

Yep, big difference. Flash CS3 is the earlier version of
Flash, so you can't open CS4 files in CS3. You are probably
confusing CS3 with AS3, which is supported by both versions of
Flash CS#.

  • Flash CS3 Default.xml not found, can't open any windows!

So, here's the story. I am now running CC, but I have a very old Flash file that needs to be updated that uses action script 2. I still have a version of CS3 on my computer, but I get this error when I try to open a file:
The following panel layout is missing or could not be read:
    /Applications/Adobe Flash CS3/Configuration/Workspace/Default.xml
The application will not have a correct layout. Please load one from Windows—>Workspace Layout
I click ok, the file opens, but I am unable to get any of my windows (layer, properties, etc) to appear, and Windows—>Workspace Layout does not exist as far as I can see. The last time I opened this program was probably a few years ago. (Not sure if this is relevant, but I recently got a new hard drive, upgraded to Mavericks, and migrated all the files & folders back to this computer with migration assistant) I just need to make some really quick adjustments to this old flash website, please help!
    thanks

  • How do i use a flash gallery with xml file

    Hi there....
I am trying to include a flash banner template i have downloaded into my webpage using dreamweaver CS5.
the template comes with an XML file with it in which you can reference your own images etc..
I understand how to inclued the Flash object into my webpage by insert-swf- and then navigating to the .swf file...
what i am having trouble with is understanding how this refereces the XML file in the download pack as i cant find any references to it in the code??
I am just getting the grey flash box with no images appearing when i hit play etc..
sorry if this is a really silly question!!
    mart

If you are using DW to insert the Flash, that could be the problem.  It is not reliable resource in that respect (my opinion, but a shared one). I normally only use Flash to create the code and copy/paste it into my html page.  Did you get an fla file with the set, and do you have Flash?
What you should do is test the swf file by itself to make sure it works.   Normally you can link directly to the swf file to check that out.  Just type in the url to the swf file and see if it plays.  There may be some other setup required that maybe an accompanying set of instructions might explain.
Also, if you have a link to the html file you uploaded, providing it here may help in getting things resolved.

  • CS5 vs CS3 with XML

We're on the cusp of switching from CS3 to CS5 and just received a request to do layout from XML files.
I know very little of XML and how to deal with it in InD and will be doing a crash course over the next two weeks, I'm also far more familiar with CS3 both (layout and scripting) than CS5.
Are there any worth while advantages to working with the XML in CS5 over CS3?
    Many thanks,
    Ken

We have an existing set of sample pages for a series. The client is trying to find the best way to get the back list of the series to the web as well as prepared for traditional book printing and are testing some things, one of which is having the content created and tagged in XML and trying to use that for both getting the product to the web and prepared in InDesign for printing.
So, we have an existing InDesign file that should have all the styles to lay the books out and newly created XML files that we have to import into InDesign.
I'm going to try looking in to the evaluateXPathExpression and try to determine how helpful it might be. Maybe that will make it worth moving to CS5 ASAP.
The looking I've done over the last couple of days has pretty much confirmed your initial assessment of a "world of hurt." Oy.

  • Installation Flash cs3 with Windows Vista Ultimate

I am trying to use Flash on Windows Vista Ultimate.
Installing the program tells me a mistake "error in the
installation component". I have tried to install in administrator
    mode and windows account manager
Can anyone tell me how to install Flash for suite cs3?

I would download a new installer, you can get the trial
installer, then just enter your serial when you first run it.
Sounds like a corrupt exe. But yes, make sure and run as
Administrator by right clicking the file.

  • Marquee (horizontal scrolling) Text in Flash CS3 with AS2

    Hello,
I know there is already some posts talking about marquee text, but none of them really answer my questions.
First I'll explain my problem and what I'm trying to ahcieve.
Currently I'm trying to create a karaoke (the same kind of karaoke that you can find in the popular game: Rock Band) where the text is scrolling from right to left. For this I need to sustain a certain amount of speed if I want to stay in synch with the music, but what I noticed is when I'm going too fast the text begin to flicker and looks blurry, unless if I increase the FPS at 60, so the text begin to be clearer. But I need to make it run at 30 fps .
    More details:
I'm trying to move my text at 350 pixels / seconds which give me a displacement of 11.6 pixels per frame when going at 30 Fps and when going at 60 fps it give me a displacement of 5.83 pixels per frame.
    What I've tried:
    - I've tried to apply an horizontal blur to my text to reduce in an attempt to reduce the flickering of the text but it didn't worked out.
    - I've tried to convert the text into graphic to see if I could get better results but it didn't help.
    My Questions :
    - Is there a suggested speed that we shouldn't go over if we want the text still be readable on screen while going at 30 Fps ?
    - Also I would like to better understand why it's look better at 60 Fps than 30 Fps.
    - Does anybody have any suggestions about my problem ?

    Thanks again Kglad,
I really have no preference of Action Script since I don't have any significant experience with either one.
I'll keep doing searches to see if I can get the information I need.
    Have a great holiday.

  • Flash CS3 and Photoshop CS Integration

    Hello,
I have a situation in my company were I may need to use
Photoshop CS with Flash CS3. My question is can you import older CS
photoshop document into the New Flash CS3 with similar results as
Photoshop CS3. If so please let me know the pro's and con's of
    doing this.
    Thank You, Jacob

No, PSE 3 and PS CS3 are totally different programs. Elements is a reduced version of photoshop for consumer use, with many of the pro features from photoshop simplified or left out.
PSE 3 is quite an old version (it's up to PSE 8 now). You might want to check your local library for books on it. It's highly unlikely that you would find books on PSE 3 in stock in any bookstore, even in a large city, since it's five years old. You can still get a few books from amazon, I think.

  • FLASH WITH XML

    Hi Friend....
I am a Raghava working as a webdesigner I have purchased one template in Template Monster it is in Flash Actionscript with XML . I need to change the content but i am facing some problems.I couldn't know where the XML file is Loading in Actionscript..I opened the fla file while in run time the content was not displaying....if any one knows the solution please help me......

  • Creating metadata in Flash CS3 and reading it in AS3

Is there a way to store metadata in a library symbol in Flash
CS3, and then read it in AS3? For example, I want to have the
    following code run:
    m_Metadata = 'You're cool!'
I need this data before I can play the movie clip. Is there a
way to store this? I've been trying to find a solution, but it
looks like I'm just going to have to load in a separate XML file
    with the data.
    Thanks!

Unfortunately there's no simple way to add instance level
code in Flash CS3 or CS4 with AS3. This is a significant authoring
    tool deficiency in my opinion.
Making a component... depending on what you want to do, there
can be a lot of overhead. There may also be some very flaky/buggy
behavior in Flash CS3 with custom components if your experience is
anything like mine. However, for basic metadata, try this:
    1. Select the Symbol in the Library
    2. Right click, choose Component Definition...
    3. In the Parameters data grid you can add
parameters/properties. Make sure you set the "Variable" field as a
unique identifier for each parameter. These are the properties
you'll use in AS at runtime to retrieve the values.
    4. Now on each instance on the canvas you can go to the
Parameters tab and enter custom values for each parameter.
    5. At runtime, you should be able to access the values via
    instance_name.variable_name
I believe that will work without actually creating a
component class and making it functional.

  • Error publishing Air in Flash CS3

    Hi All
On the Adobe Air Flash CS3 wiki page
    http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/AIR:Flash_CS3_Professional_Update:Getting_Started_wit h_AIR_for_Flash_CS3_Professional)
I found a simlpe tutorial "Creating an Adobe AIR application
    in Flash"
I thought well this can't be hard can it?
However when I use the Publish Air File button in the 'AIR -
Applications and Installer Settings' window I will get the
    following error:
"namespace is invalid in the application descriptor file"
Now I have tried to look into the XML file but I cannot see
    any problems.
I also tried to use the descriptor-template.xml which came
    with the Air - SDK
However also that will not work.
Has anyone got an idea why I get this error?

    Hi FragFood!
I received the same error "Namespace is invalid in the
application descriptor file" repeatedly on many computers
(XP/Vista) and here is how i repeatedly worked around it.
I made a step-by-step sheet explaining exactly how to install
Flash CS3 (9.0) with the Latest Flash Player (v9.0.124), and with
Adobe AIR (1.0) as of today (3/May/2008).
If you have already installed Flash CS3
    Uninstall Flash CS3
Goto all the "Program Data" folders, RENAME/DELETE the "en"
    folder
Goto "Program Files" folder, RENAME/DELETE the "en" folder
Now to get the latest version of Flash CS3 installed!
Please follow these steps exactly; each one is extremely
    important.

  • How do I update Java for Adobe Flash CS3?

    Hi,
When I ran Secunia Software Inspector today it told me that
the version of Java I have installed on my computer is out of date.
It tells me that it is finding 3 out-of-date files:
    Once here:
    C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04\bin\java.exe
    Twice here:
    C:\Windows\System32\java.exe
    and three times here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\JVM\bin\java.exe
I updated Java via the Sun website and consequently the first
and second warnings disappeared when I reran the Software
    Inspector.
The software inspector however is still finding an
    out-of-date Java version here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\JVM\bin\java.exe
Question is: How do I update Java for Adobe Flash CS3?
Is it adequate to copy the updated file "java.exe" from
    "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_04\bin\" to "C:\Program
Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS3\JVM\bin\" or do I need to do anything
    else?
Any help will be much appreciated.

    Hi
I have the same problem of you, and the same dont find a
solution. Me it's Kaspersky Anti Virus (AV) which find this
    problem.
So (and I dont know if this solution is perfect), but I open
Flash CS3 with the Java update choiced and apparently Flash
fonctionnely well and Kaspersky dont find this
prob now. But I dont never use Java in Flash (or without that
I know that..), and same, I dont know at what Java is used in Flash
I think that "JRE v 1.6.0_04" and more recent Java version is
not good, because it's not quite the same Java application that in
    Flash CS3, In Flash CS3 it's "J2RE" and
    not "JRE".
The history of all Java versions (and this) is here (
    http://java.sun.com/products/archive/)
(but in all this versions... seriousely it's a true shambles !)
If you want the last version for J2RE in this archives it's v
1.4.2.18 but the last version is J2RE 1.4.2.19 but dont again in
    this archives
(search on Java site, maybe first page ? I dont remember
where I to find it...). But the problem... it's that this last
version (19) is always detected bad by my AV...
So I decide to use just the next version (v 1.5) and last
version in this series (in archives site) which is the "JDK/JRE -
    5.0 v 5.0.16" but again named "Java 2 Platform
Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Update 16" in this dowload next
    archives page
    http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/5.0_16/index.html),
so well again named "Java 2" in this page (that which dont
the case for the equivalent same download page for Java 6...)
(Choice "JRE 5.0 Update 16" in this page)
For instal "JRE 5.0 Update 16":
    1) Supp all files and folders in "JVM" (Java Virtual Machine)
folder in Flash CS3 (but dont supp this folder, empty now) and save
this contents in archive in you have
    affraid.
    2) dl "JRE 5.0 Update 16", directly in this page if you want:
    (https://cds.sun.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/CDS-CDS_Developer-Site/en_US/-/USD/View ProductDetail-Start?ProductRef=jre-1.5.0_16-oth-JPR@CDS-CDS_Dev
    eloper)
    3) In install, choice "personal instal" (or +/- the same
terms) and choice the "JVM" folder of you Flash CS3
and AV dont detect this version same a bad file

  • Arabic project in CS3 with AS3

    dear friends,
i need to create an arabic project in flash CS3 with AS3 coading. i am using normal version of flash. i need your advice,
    1) do i need middle east version to type and get arabic text?
    2) if i can use the same software and show the arabic text or enter the arabic text in run time what should i do? pls advice me.
tell me how can i manage with the existing software and do the arabic project. i typed arabic text in this CS3, al the text is coming as broken, output also broken.  pls help me..
    Thanks in Advance,
    Syed Abdul Rahim

    Hi Syed,
You need to install Adobe Illustrator ME (Middle East Version), otherwise the arabic text will appear as detached letters.
Adding arabic fonts will not do the trick by itself.
As far as i know, there is no other way, and i am not sure if there is Flash ME.
And in case you cannot get this version you could always try typing it in MS Word and tracing it in Illustrator or Flash.

  • How to change flash size with ac3?

I want to change flash size with xml. Sample config.xml
    <genGenis>300</genGenis>
    <genYuksek>100</genYuksek>
My flash read xml and change size to 300 * 100
After working in a flash I want to change the default values. Is this possible?

Have you worked with XML before? You're going to need to load that XML file and wait for it to complete. After you do that, are you using layout logic based on these values to create your content? Meaning do you have code in place to realize you have (as you said) 500x200 space so your code is able to use the space available effectively? Or do you just expect the content of the SWF to scale automagically?
As for the loader, you can use a simple URLLoader to load the external XML file. Here's a quick Adobe code snippit and explaination on how to load it:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/as3/dev/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118a9b90204-7e6a.html
Once you have the XML in an XML object you can just access the value via the XML variable name you make (e.g. myXML) with the name of the node while getting its text value. In your case you'll need to convert it to a Number because you may want the flexibility of using fractions (e.g. 1.5, 500.25, etc). So you'd need to case the value to a number. So to get the width it'd be like: var myWidth:Number = Number(myXML.genGenis.text()); and same for height just changing the variable and node name as needed.
Now that you have your values you can write layout code to use the numbers and handle the content creation yourself.
If you don't do that, as Andrei1 mentioned you'll need to affect the object embedded directly using ExternalInterface (Flash AS3 talking to the webpages JavaScript) requesting the object be resized to the new size.
You'll want to make sure your stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.EXACT_FIT; or stage.scaleMode = StageScaleMode.NO_BORDER; so your SWF content is "stretched" to the size you request. Exact fit will allow the content to distort if necessary to fill the width and height. No border will scale the content to the size specified but will maintain the aspect ratio. It's up to you whichever you want.
If you have any specific questions on any of this just ask.

  • Flash CS3 Actionscript

I get he impression that newbies to Flash are no longer
welcome. I was just getting the hang of CS2 and had to upgrade.
What happened to the simple behaviors for buttons? What is this
stuff called Actionscript 3.0? I am ticked.

    SuJun,
    >> What happened to the simple behaviors for buttons?
    They're still there. ;)
    >> What is this stuff called Actionscript 3.0? I am
    ticked.
ActionScript 3.0 is a new, overhauled version of
    ActionScript made to
take advantage of the new virtual machine in Flash Player 9
    and higher.
(Flash Player 9 actually has two virtual machines now, AVM1
    for ActionScript
    1.0/2.0 and AVM2 for ActionScript 3.0.)
    > I understand tweening, putting objects on the stage,
    importing
    > graphics, but actionscript is beyond my competency
    level.
Fair enough. Keep your chin up ... you'll be happy to hear
    that Flash
can easily be configured to the way you were used to before.
    It all depends
on your Publish Settings for the FLA at hand. If you don't
    need new
ActionScript 3.0 features, just head to File > Publish
    Settings > Flash tab
and change the ActionScript version field to ActionScript 2.0
    or lower. If
you like, you can even change the version of Flash Player for
    your published
    SWF.
Again, if you're not making use of newer features, you may
    as well
publish for the lowest version of Flash Player you can get
    away with. Flash
Player 8 introduced filter effects (blur, drop shadow, etc.),
    so if need
those, you'll have to publish to Flash Player 8 or higher --
    but if you
don't need them, maybe Flash Player 7 would do ... or 6, or
    even 5. If you
go 5, you'll have to drop your ActionScript version down to
    ActionScript
    1.0.
    > This type of change focuses strictly on the developer at
    the
    > expense of someone trying to learn. Obviously Adobe
    > doesn't give a rip about someone just beginning.
I wouldn't go so far as to say that. I've noticed that many
    people seem
to equate Flash CS3 with ActionScript 3.0 exclusively, but
    fortunately, that
simply needn't be. As soon as you change to ActionScript 2.0
    or lower,
you'll find that the Behavior panel becomes enabled.
