Integrating InDesign with WebCenter Sites

We are looking at implementing WebCenter Sites but need a print component as well. Has anyone intergrated InDesign with OWS? We want OWS to be the central place for all content. Most of that content is served for the Web, but some of it needs to be served for print.

I don't believe that noone has ever tried to connect the local BPM environment to a remote WCC server before. Please let me know if you've ever experienced the same problem. Otherwise, even a simple "I tried to do the samething and I succeeded using the same steps in the tutorial" would help too .
Another thing is that yesterday, I talked to the tech-lead and I learned that our WCC server environment doesn't have BPM installed yet. I am wondering if this would cause the WCC server to not understand the request from my BPM server. In addtion, I've also upgraded my local BPM server using the lastest SOA bundled patch. Should the same patch be applied to the WCC server environment too?
I'd be very grateful for any advice .

Dynamic pages with WebCenter Sites CSElements

We are using the benefits of WebCenter Sites 11g regarding the possibilities of create the templates and the final user be able to compose the the pages. By the other hand, we have the necessity to create dynamic pages with business logic and interaction with database or web-services with WebCenter Sites templates. We expect to be able to embed these dynamic pages inside CSElements. With all of this in mind, what is the best approach? I'd like to know if our solution to use the Spring 2.5 + JPA 2 is a good a approach to reach our necessity/requirement or WebCenter Sites 11g has another better way to do that.

You can add your own business logic to CSElements, or create your own tag libraries and add your logic there. If you're using a framework like the GSF you can call an action from your element as well. In all cases, you are free to use whatever tools you like to help you implement your business logic (provided that it is compatible, which you've already learned about. :-). Just be careful that you don't use the same database connection pool that Sites uses or you may run out of connections. Also, pay attention to how you are caching your pages and pagelets when you are calling external services or accessing external resources.

Default users configured with Webcenter Sites 11gR1 Jump Start Kit

I have installed Webcenter Sites 11gR1 Jump Start Kit. I want to use James Email Server that is shipped with the JSK and I am not sure of what default users have been configured with the JSK.
Does anyone know what are the default users configured for James Server?

Hi Hari,
The default admin user fwadmin should be the default for mail server also. Configuring users explicitly for mail server is not possible. To use mail server the below said properties must have values.
cs.emailaccount-- The account used to send mail
cs.emailhost--mail server host exe:localhost:25
cs.emailpassword--password for above said mail account
cs.emailcharset and cs.emailcontenttype properties are optional. These properties are found in futuretense.ini

Integrating BPM with WebCenter Content

To integrate UCM and BPM, I followed this tutorial written by J@n van Zoggel.
At the moment, I've already set up everything exactly as instructed in the tutorial. However, when I viewed a task in BPM Workspace, I still cannot see the Attachment section. In the log, I saw the following error:
Ensure that credential store map WF-ADMIN-USER with key WF-ADMIN-CREDENTIAL
contains UCM server admin username/password. Also ensure that Workflow configuration parameter
UcmIdcUrl contains IDC socket connection url to connect to UCM server and UCM server has permission
to let SOA server connect to it using IDC protocol.

One thing I'd like to ask is that in all tutorials or articles I've read, the authors are always testing in the environment in which both the UCM and BPM servers are on the same machine. In my case, I am trying to connect my local BPM server with the online WebCenter Content server of my company, I wonder if I have to make any additional settings for this to work. I'd be very grateful if you could share with me your experience in integrating BPM and UCM.

ATG & Webcenter Sites integration?

Is there going to be a convergence of ATG WebCommerce and WebCenter Sites down the road?

It seems that Oracle's focus has moved a bit from Oracle ATG only to Oracle Commerce. As such the forward looking information (of course accompanied with a good safe harbour statement) is now in general the combination of ATG and Endeca.
Elements of further integration are much lickely to include:
- structured and unstructured (web content) data integration from Sites to Endeca
- Single Sign on between the backend elements of the solutions (administration purposes)
- integration with Experience Manager for feeding cartridges from Sites
This is in addition to the existing integration possibilities between WebCenter Sites and ATG currently

WebCenter Sites Mobility Server, SSXA and workflows

I am trying to evaluate if "WebCenter Sites Mobility Server" adapts to the requirements of a new project. I have been reading the documentation intensively but I have not been able to find the answers to the two questions below.
1) Is it possible to use Site Studio for External Applications with WebCenter Sites Mobility Server?
2) Is it possible to use workflows with Mobility Server so that a contributor can accept or reject changes?
Any help would be really helpful.

You can not use SSXA or SiteStudio with Mobility Server. Also deep workflow integration is not there.
You should think about Mobility Server as a preview and publishing extension of Sites. You would create and approve all your assets in WebCenter Sites the way you normally would. Mobility Server accesses those assets via REST but uses it's own pubishing model to deploy the mobile site. It's integrated to via REST and the Preview UI (which sits in the Sites container as a App next to the contributor interface). That is the extent of the integration we have today.

Iam trying to install OpenLDAP 2.3.x in RedHat 6.5 in order to integrate the LDAP with WebCenter Sites.
I followed the below steps..
Downloaded openldap-stable-20070110.tgz .
then,
tar-xvzf openldap-stable-20070110.tgz
cd openldap-2.3.32
on running the below command,
./configure --enable-crypt --with-tls
Iam getting this error:
configure: error: Could not locate TLS/SSL package

Webcenter Sites Installation fail during deployment

I have been trying to do a proof of concerpt with Webcenter Site on Weblogic 10.3.6 on windows 7, it installs fine but failes with the following error during deployment
An error occurred during activation of changes, please see the log for details.
User-specified log class 'org.apache.commons.logging.impl.Log4JLogger' cannot be found or is not useable.:org.apache.commons.logging.LogConfigurationException:User-specified log class 'org.apache.commons.logging.impl.Log4JLogger' cannot be found or is not useable.

I have managed to fix this problem, by adding the following in the weblogic.xml

I am able to develop some templates and synch them with webcenter sites and observe result in page preview.
But some times i get some issues with synching and logout and login again into webcenter sites.

Can you check the cs.eventhost parameter in futuretense.ini? The error is from the event subsystem in Sites, trying to fire a http request to <FullComputerName>:7004/servlet/ to run the event, but the error indicates that your Sites is not reachable or running at <FullComputerName>:7004.

To a limited degree, yes, but you'll be lacking a lot of UI capabilities. If not using it for Sites its value is significantly diminished.

WebCenter Sites and Model–view–controller (MVC) framework

A customer of our started developing their sites using Webcenter Sites, they want to support additional functionality such as transaction management, exception handling, custom logging and so on. I was wondering if anyone has experience with the Model–view–controller (MVC) framework, they consider it an ideal candidate for these features. Has anyone here used the MVC framework in conjunction with WebCenter Sites to write additional java classes, facade layers and utilize the Spring controller to wire the same ? Are you aware of any other options available for this purpose ?

Hi Pietro -
Using Sites IN a MVC framework is very difficult, because the entire context of WebCenter Sites is burned into the COM.FutureTense.Servlet.SContentServer servlet. You can't really work around that with any degree of reliability. Unfortunately, that means that dropping Sites into a pre-existing third party MVC framework doesn't really work.
There are a lot of good reasons for that, not the least of which is the two-tiered pagelet-level caching system that makes Sites so very fast at delivery... not that it's any consolation.
To deal with this some former colleagues of mine and I built the GST Site Foundation ("GSF") framework, which provides a Spring-like MVC container WITHIN sites, instead of the other way around. If you're familiar with Spring, you'll see patterns similar with the GSF. My current team and I have blogged about this extensively:

But ultimately, the special sauce is the following: in Sites, create an XML element that contains nothing but a <FTCS> tag, a <CALLJAVA> tag, and a closing </FTCS> tag. Your CALLJAVA will then call a class that implements the Seed or Seed2 interface, and from in there you have access to the (properly managed) ICS object where you can do all of your magic. You can then build a lightweight controller here to handle any action you can dream up:
