Integrating mac os 10.8 with edirectory

Hi all,
we are using for a long time now the integration of Mac OS with edirectory with automatic home mount.
Now we are trying to setup the same installation for Mac OS X.8 and the login suceeds but it lasts for about 2 minutes and that is far too long.
I did try to analyze the problem by doing a ldap trace but the searches seemed quite the same:
11:29:20 5F211480 LDAP: Search request:
base: scope:0 dereference:0 sizelimit:1 timelimit:15 attrsonly:0
filter: (objectClass=*)
attribute: supportedSASLMechanisms
attribute: defaultNamingContext
attribute: namingContexts
attribute: schemaNamingContext
instead of
Search request:
scope:0 dereference:0 sizelimit:0 timelimit:5 attrsonly:0
filter: (objectclass=*)
attribute: supportedSASLMechanisms
attribute: namingContexts
attribute: dnsHostName
attribute: krbName
the searches for the user and some searches for "admin" and "root".
Somebody tried this already and has a hint for me where to look?
Oh, the mappings did differ a bit, we did put some of the mapped attributes into "user" instead of something like "standard attributes" on the lab mac we used for our tests.

  • Best way to integrating mac os x client with Active Directory

    Hi hello
What is the best way to integrating mac os x client with Active Directory ? i have one Lion Server
For the Mac client i want Mac use Active Directory for authentification and Lion Server for manage preference.
Tell me in lion server the magic triangle is it good for what i want do ??

If you have a need now and that need will remain serviceable long enough to justifying the investment, then go with Lion Server and do the Magic Triangle.  This is nothing more than Binding OS X Server to your AD domain and kerberizing services.  Then bind your workstations to AD first, then OD.  Make sure you download Server Admin Tools for Lion.  This gives access to Workgroup Manager.  That is were you will manage your OS X Settings.
If you are managing more than 50 Macs that need a lot of continued management, then look at JAMF.

Hi, I try to conect Mac Mini from 2009 with my HD Tv Samsung F 6400 . With Mini Dvi conection and adapter to HDMI input in TV I got picture but not sound! I have analog cable from the phones out from mac but imposible to conect to TV? Can you HLP?

You really need a newer Mac Mini with a true HDMI output, because that Mac Mini's DVI output does not support Audio.
You might try a 3.5mm to RCA adapter
from the Mac Mini's headphone jack to the TV's audio input,
but that would require being able to select the Audio input in the TVs menu while using it's HDMI input.
Optionally you could also use an external 2.1 Speaker System or patch the audio from the Mac Mini to your home stereo system to enhance that older Mac Mini's audio.

  • From a mac to a pc with iphone

    Okay strange question here.
Is it possible to take an iphone that was used with a mac and use it with a PC? What will be lost? Is there a way to keep all the contacts, pictures, music and everything? Or ... Is there a way to export all the stuff and after setting up on a PC add my old existing stuff?
    Here is the problem.
I have a mac and my partner moved. He used my mac to activate, and sync his iphone. He now has a PC with iTunes. The concern is loosing everything when plugging into his PC. Whats the best way to do this without loosing stuff.

You'll want to make a copy of everything he's got on his iPhone. Then he'll want to install all that stuff onto his PC before he syncs the phone. Music doesn't transfer from the iPhone like it does from an iPod, unless you buy it through the mobile music store. So if he doesn't have a song on his comp that he's got in his iPhone he's gonna loose it.
I transfered from a PC to a Mac, and had to make sure that my new library was holding everything in my old library. It's not so hard if you burn a disc like you suggested. Or as I did, and use a pin drive.

  • Some albums I put on my Mac to later sync with a Touch appears as seperate tracks and not a single album.  How do I get them back together again other than a playlist.  I do not want the tracks showing up as albums on the Touch?

Are your tracks pat of a collection? Different artists, but still one album? Then mark them a s acollection or set the album artist. See this guide on how to group separate tracks into albums:

  • I have a Mac Pro using Lion, with a SSD for system.  Restored drive from backup.  Now logon password doesn't work.  Account password still works.  Changing password in user group preferences no longer works to change logon password.

I have a Mac Pro using Lion, with SSD for system drive.  Drive stopped booting, but otherwise appeared healthy.  Restored from system backup.  Now drive seems to work properly, BUT my logon password no longer works.  Password OK for account; can access system preferences, and change user password there BUT logon still refuses to accept password.  No luck changing password for that account after adding new administrator account and logging on from that account.  Suggestions?  Thanks.

If you redirect Accounts to another location (not on the Boot Drive) you need to direct them back there again after a restore.
    SystemPreferences > Accounts/User&Groups > ...
... Unlock the lock, then hold down Control as you click on an Account to get access to the Advanced Options pane.

  • Can send but can't receive faxes on HP Laserjet, on Mac 10.9 Mavericks with TAM answering machine

I have an iMac running OS 10.9 (Mavericks) and an HP Laserjet Professional M1212nf MFP all-in-one print/scan/fax machine connected by USB.  I have a telephone system with answering machine connected.
I can send out faxes from the HP and from the Mac (using Fax pdf).  What I can't do is receive faxes on the HP (I know that the Mac cannot receive faxes with this machine).  I've tried every combination of settings to no avail  even disconnecting the phone/answering machine to no avail.
Any ideas what settings I need?
    This question was solved.

    Hi ChuckStewart,
This is certainly a head scratcher! I have found some additional information, from the following link Using an HP Fax Product with a Telephone Answering Machine (TAM).
I found this blurb interesting, When recording the outgoing message on your TAM, the voice portion should be at least 10 seconds long, but no longer than 20 seconds . Record 5 to 7 seconds of silence at the end of the voice portion of your outgoing message (total outgoing message length would be your voice message plus the additional 5 to 7 seconds of recorded silence ).
I wonder if you might find something helpful in the document.
    Please let me know. thanks.

  • How do i reformat my hard drive on mac mini late 2011 with yosemite before selling my mac

how do i reformat my hard drive on mac mini late 2011 with yosemite before selling my mac

You can't legally sell or give away that computer with Yosemite installed.
Before you sell or give away your computer, in addition to the steps listed in this support article, take these steps:
    1. Run Apple Diagnostics or the Apple Hardware Test. The buyer will do this (or he should), and you don't want to be surprised by the results.
    2. Reset the PRAM and the SMC, which might contain personal information.
    3. If you set a firmware password, remove it by running Firmware Password Utility in Recovery mode.
    4. If you activated FileVault in OS X 10.7 or later, turn it off.
    5. If you use Boot Camp, the partition must be deleted.
    6. If you created any other data partitions on the internal drive, remove them in Disk Utility.
    7. If the machine has an internal hard drive, erase the one remaining data partition with the option to zero out data. An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.
You can't legally or practically transfer any software downloaded from the Mac App Store to the new owner of the machine, even if it was free. That includes OS X, so if you upgraded to OS X 10.7 or later, you must reinstall an older OS, either from the installation media, if applicable, or by starting up in Internet Recovery mode (option-command-R at the startup chime.) If you installed from physical media, deliver those to the new owner.
If you're selling the machine, or donating it in working order, and it originally shipped with OS X 10.4 or 10.5, then you have the option of installing either from the discs that came with it or from a retail Snow Leopard disc (which you must then transfer to the buyer.) The buyer should understand that if he doesn't get the original discs from you, he won't get the bundled iLife applications or the Apple Hardware Test. Replacements for the original discs can be ordered from Apple.
The new owner will have to redownload any software that came from the App Store, including OS X upgrades, under his or her Apple ID. If you ever updated the bundled iLife applications (Garage Band, iMovie, and iPhoto) through the App Store, you can't transfer those either. The buyer will have to purchase them.
Remove the machine from your list of registered products. If it's still covered by an AppleCare Protection Plan, transfer the coverage to the new owner by following the instructions in the AppleCare Terms and Conditions (under the heading "Transfer of Plan.")

  • When I purchased my Mac I bought it with "pages" and "iPhoto" and "iMovie" installed, but when i try to update it says that I need to update from another account, but I have only had one Apple account, what can I do?

When I purchased my Mac I bought it with Apps installed, when I go to update them, it says I need to update on a different Apple account. I have only ever had one Apple account, what can I do? The Apps are iPhoto, iMovie, Pages, and Keynote. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to suggestions.

Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
    Step 2
Associate your Apple ID with your user account. Then sign in to the App Store with the same ID.
    Step 3
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open with a file named "adoption.plist" selected. If it does, move the file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Log out, log back in, and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 4
Contact Mac App Store Customer Service.

When I try to install Lion it tell's me "You can't use this version of the application install mac os x Lion with this version of Mac os X" even though I have the latest update 10.5.8 of Mac os X?
The install icon has this sign on it

You can't install Lion over Leopard. To install Lion, a requirement is Snow Leopard. So you can either upgrade to Snow Leopard first or you can make a bootable Lion install disc and use that to wipe your hard drive and install a fresh copy of Lion.
So to make a disk would require you to purchase Snow Leopard and upgrade to 10.6.8 so you can use the App Store, unless you have access to another computer to download it from with your Apple ID. Remember it is about a 3.4GB download.
    Good Luck

Hello, I want to reinstall Mac OS X Lion with saving my programms, docs and photos. What should I do then? I know that Time Machine backups data with the  system. But Ineed to backup my files and then on clear system I want  to restore this backup. Please reply with the steps which should I do. And where should I download original Mac OS X Lion image?
PS I bought MacBook Pro with pre-installed Lion.
    Thanks in advance.

    Yes there is/are.
Removing and rebuilding a malfunctioning Recovery HD partition « Der Flounder
By the way it is NOT self deleting. Something deleted it, you or something else.
Just to check open Terminal and type diskutil list then hit the enter key. If there is an entry for "Apple_Boot Recovery HD" of 650MBs then you do have a recovery HD partition.
Once you recreate the Recovery HD I would do one of 2 things, or both of them.
    1) Use the Lion Recovery Disk Assistant to create a USB thumb drive of the recovery HD file. that way you will always have a way to boot your Mac and do maintenance or Reinstall Lion.
    2) follow this link
10.7: How to get a full Lion install disc for a new MacBook Air or Pro - Mac OS X Hints
to create a Real Lion Install USB thumb drive.
If you do # 2 you can forget about # 1. But me being me I have both.
