Integrating Nord Lead 2X

Hello!
Long time listener, first time caller... Must be at my wits end.
Having become quite comfortable in the digital realm, I recently decided to pick up my first piece of hardware - a Nord Lead 2X. Here I am, feeling like I'm back at square 1, trying to get this thing linked up to Logic.
Would someone be so kind as to post a step-by-step, or point me to a thread here, or elsewhere? I've been trawling the forums for quite some time, but can't seem to get a straight forward answer. Seems to be 2 schools. One says record midi, bounce, then process. The other says, use the external plug and be able to process (hear plugs), but I'm not sure how that works. I guess I'm just coming from a place where I haven't used midi tracks for external instruments before.
Any help greatly appreciated.

Hi,
Here's a breakdown of how to set up an external synth with Logic.
1. Set up your synth with both MIDI in AND out cables. Label them.
2. Set up the Nords' audio outputs with the proper cables, and label them too. Put them aside, we'll get to them later.
3. Hook up your MIDI to any available port on your MIDI interface. This is where the MIDI is going to enter your computer.
4. Open your Macs Audio / Midi Setup utility, found inside the "Utilities" folder, inside your main Applications folder.
5. Create a NEW DEVICE, label it Nord 2x, and cable the virtual MIDI wires between the MIDI interface and your Nord2. This step is recreating what exists in the real world. So make sure you have this step correct. There is a "test" button for making sure the Nord is seen by the Mac. Leave this software Open for now, to test in a few minutes, in case you don't get sound in Logic.
6. Go to your Audio cables from step 2, and hook them up to your Audio interface, on any available inputs. Alternatively, you might have a mixer through which you feed audio into your computer, use some channels there, if this is the case, and route them to your audio interface inputs as desired. Double check this to ensure the audio can get into Logic properly.
7. Open Logic. Leave it at the default autoload song, and do a "save as" and name it "nord2x setup".
8. Go to your Environment page (apple+8 or Window / Environment), and create a New Layer. Label it "NORD2X LAYER".
9. In this Layer, create a New Multi-Instrument, and Label it "Nord2x". Make sure it's icon parameter is checked, so you can see it and select it as a track in the arrange page.
10. Enable as many MIDI channnels on this Multi-Instrument as you think you need. You do this by pressing on each channel, so it is pressed down, instead of having a line across it (disabled channel status). Choose a pretty red color for this new instrument, to reflect the Nord's redness...this is really important...
11. Go to your Arrange page, and create two new channels, one MIDI channel 1 of your Nord2x, and one Stereo audio track, set to the correct audio input channels where the Nord is hooked up.
12. Record-enable the MIDI channel, press shift and hold while you press on the audio track's record enable button to enable it as well, and play your Nord2x. You should see Midi action here now, and the audio as well.
16. If you do NOT get any MIDI activity, go back to your AMS( Audio Midi Setup) app, and press the "test" button. Do you get any sound? check your MIDI cables to ensure they are hookerd up correctly (MIDI out from nord2 to MIDI IN of interface, etc.)
17. If you See MIDI in Logic, but you do not hear sound in Logic, check your output assignments in the Nord2x, and make sure the volume is up too. Also, check to make sure you have selected the correct audio input channels on your audio track.
Cheers.
If you get stuck after this, take 5, and post here again later. Breathe deeply throughout this setup, and take your time.

• Create Lead with Oracle BPEL process using Siebel CRMOD web service

I'm trying to create a lead in the siebel OD (hosted) with a oracle BPEL process and using the siebel web service (2.0). In my bpel process I've been able to
1. Login to OD and get a session id
2. create the partner link using Siebel OD (version 2.0) wsdl for Lead
3. Assign the session id to the partner link
4. Assign the inputs (lastname, firstname, leadowner, viewMode=Personal, lovLanguageMode=LDC) to lead
5. Call the leadInsert operation on the partner link
However, when I deploy and execute the bpel process it breaks after calling the leadInsert with the following error message:

Hi,
We are also using BPEL to send data out to SIEBEL CRMOD.
I've created a proxy that deals with authentication and session management.
All you have to do is to deploy the proxy as a war file and refrence it as the end-point of your partner link.
Code is here:

• Problem of user key while inserting a lead record

hi all
i am trying to insert a lead record. I have created WSDL client in java environment. I have used Web Services V2.0 and Generic WSDL.
I have given following 3 field values as they are the required fields on Lead object to create a record
LeadLastName
LeadFirstName
LeadOwner.
I have called LeadInsert() service to enter the record into the application.
now my problem is that i get following error:
The record with search specification '[Id] = "\?"' in business component 'Lead' (integration component 'Lead') has been deleted by another user since it was retrieved.(SBL-EAI-04289)
I am confused as i am inserting a new record why the value of ID has to present in the database?
is it something related to Child insert?
thanks in advance.

Hi,
Not sure what is the problem you are facing
My code like this works fine without any issues
LeadStub ls = new LeadStub(wsLocation);
crmondemand.LeadStub.LeadInsert_Input leadInsert_Input2 = new crmondemand.LeadStub.LeadInsert_Input();
crmondemand.LeadStub.ListOfLeadData param = new ListOfLeadData();
crmondemand.LeadStub.LeadData newLead = new crmondemand.LeadStub.LeadData();
newLead.setLeadFirstName("Venkatesan");
newLead.setLeadLastName("Sundaram");
param.addLead(newLead);
leadInsert_Input2.setListOfLead(param);
ls.LeadInsert(leadInsert_Input2);
System.out.println("Lead inserted successfully");
Hope this helps

• Integrating a DrumKAT in my system

I have a Drumkat V3.7 just sitting at home.
I don't know much about it, or even it I would be able to use it in my logic setup.
My basic setup is:
Logic Pro 7 (with the XSkey)
MOTU 8pre
Nord Lead 2
POD xt Live
I'm not a drummer, but If I could use this to trigger Ultrabeat, it might be interesting. But I'm sure there are more uses for a DrumKat than just that.
It's not easy for me to set up, so I was hoping one of you would say, "hey! I love that drumKat thing. Here is what you do..."
ideas?

Yeah... what he said
I use a KAT, too, as a mapped instrument. I use it with EXS24 more than Ultrabeat--the dynamics generated by the KAT sound more realistic with hyper-sampling (different samples for different velocities, unlike in Ultrabeat, where the same sample is volume-scaled).
One tip with the KAT--make sure to disable the feature where the KAT will send out fader and program change information when changing kits. This one had me stumped for a while. Every time I changed kits on the KAT, faders in Logic got reset to 0. This can be disabled easily, but I don't have the KAT manual handy at the moment--lemme know if you can't figure this out.
Best!

• MBP as centerpiece of Logic Pro 7 home studio?

Hello All.
I am VERY close to placing an order for my first Mac and right now its neck and neck between the MacBook Pro and the 20-inch Intel iMac.
My main purpose for the Mac is to be a dedicated computer for serious hobbyist music creation with Logic Pro 7, Garageband & various plugins, web surfing, management of an iTunes Library over 12000 songs and occasional iLife usage. I currently use Cubase, Reason and various VST's on my PC. My songs consist mainly of sofwtare instruments, a few breakbeat loops or beats that I create myself. Eventually, I will add those programs and VST's to the Mac when the universal binary versions of them come out.
I've been debating this for weeks now and I'm seriously torn between the MBP and the IMac; both have their good and bad points. For the MBP, I love the idea of portability and not being stuck at a desk when I'm working on my tracks. This would be especially handy when my wife starts bugging me to use the Dell PC that currently sits on said desk or when my 20-month son gets too rowdy and chases me out of the room. I don't travel much nor do any professional recording or touring, but I must admit the ability to even just play around or surf the web from another room in the house is appealing which is why I'm considering it.
On the other hand, I'm definately not rich and I'd be paying a serious premium for that portability. Plus when you add laptop accessories, the price gets up there rather quick. Alternatively, I could get an Intel iMac with the same configuration, Logic Pro 7 and the 7.2 Crossgrade for about the same price of the MBP and accessories WITHOUT Logic Pro 7. Furthermore, I've gotten used to the 21" CRT we use for our Dell PC and I'm wondering if the 15.4" screen of the MBP would wear on me after awhile. I could get the iMac with all the same specs with that big beautiful display, but it would obviously take up more space and I'll lose the portability.
1) Anyway, have any of you ever used a laptop (like the PowerBook G4, for example) as the centerpiece of your home studio? How did that work out? Is that something that you'd recommend or would I be better off with an iMac desktop?
2) Also, should I be concerned with the heat that laptops like the MBP and PowerBowk put out? I was gonna have the 100GB 7200RPM drive installed in the MBP so I wonder if drive noise could be a factor here as well?
3) Lastly and on a side note, regardless of whether or not I get the MBP or the iMac, I'd be using my Edirol PCR-50 MIDI USB Keyboard Controller to control the software instruments and plug-ins. If I simply plugged this into the computer via USB, would I experience any latency issues with Core Audio/Core MIDI of OS X? Or is a MIDI absolutely necessary? Does OS X allow you change the latency settings?
Thanks in advance for your input.
Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Hello
i used to have a Soundcraft 24/8/2 mixboard, a MPC 2000XL, an EMU e6400, a MicroModular, a Nord Lead, three DBX266XL compressors, a TC M-One, a Lexicon MPX100, a Sherman Filterbank ...
i've sold everything except the nordlead and bought a powerbook G4 1.5 ghz with Logic Express 7.
i've never been as productive as now. I used to be forced to compose in front of the same stupid wall. now i can make music anywhere. i bought some good headphones, plug them directly to the powerbook soundcard and make music most of the time on the sofa next to my girlfriend while she watches tv.
i have a super small usb midi keyboard (m-audio o2) which i plug when i need to enter notes. sometimes i even enter notes using the CapsLock keyboard integrated in logic so i don't even need my usb keyboard.
when i've finished my track i go to my office and plug my firewire soundcard (Echo Audiofire 8, lots of inputs / outputs, useful to plug guitar / bass / mic and eventually a friend's computer) and check the mix on my monitors.
i'll never go back to a desktop computer again. i'm not a pro working for any kind of business, i'm just a musician making my demo. my mixes sounds as good as or better than when i had all this audio hardware.
i have two sessions in os X, one internet, one audio. i surf the web heavily, no virus, no ********. sometimes i even load safari while boucing a track in logic, professionals will tell you it's baaaaaaad, i don't care.
so :
1) i recommend having a laptop and good headphones (100$ minimum) if you're just making music for pleasure. pro need big G5, we don't.
2) i don't have problem with heat. when it's on my thigs it can get very hot which is not recommended. you must let the heat get out.but i didn't have any problem
3) no midi latency problem at all, wether it is pure midi or usb.
Lastly : i think the MacBook Pro is too expensive. a powerbook G4 is too old for big sessions. wait for the MacBook (the iBook successor), which is supposed to be intel 1.67 ghz solo core 13"3 inch screen, a little more than 1000$, and may be released on April 1st (apple aniversary)
i'm currently waiting for my copy of Logic Pro 7.2 to arrive, and i'll get a MacBook as soon its released
(be careful there are near to 0 plugins out on intel macs yet be sure you will only use logic plugins)
cheers

• Control only the software instrument of one channel strip at a time with one Controller

Hi people,
I have a Nord Lead 2 and a Korg Nanokontrol and I want to use these as Midi controllers in the following way, but don't really know how to set up the system:
I have 4 Channelstrips and each has the free software instrument Tyrell N6 inserted. I have the opportunity to change the volume of each channel strip with my faders on the Nanokontrol which works fine and gives me the opportunity to make layers and change also to only use one sound at a time. And this works fine. However, now I want to have the opportunity to change the parameters of each Tyrell with my Nord Lead. But with 4 channelstrips each with a Tyrell N6 I want to have the opportunity to only somehow manipulate only one instance of Tyrell at a time and change the channelstrip for which the Nord Lead manipulates the Tyrell. Is there an opportunity in Mainstage to do that?
Hope it is understandable. Help would be really much appricated. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi DaCaptain,
Thank you very much for your answer. I tried it yesterday, but it doesnt really work for me to be honest. The thing is that I really wanna stick to one patch, so that I can have like one patch for each song.
However, if you might be interested I found a way to do it yesterday on my own. This is how I have done it:
In Layout-Mode
- Create Controls for each instance of Tyrell. For my purpose I created 4 times:
- controlls for the Filter Section
- controls for ADSR1
- controls for ADSR2
- So you have 4 Sections of controllers in Layout Mode. Each meant to controll one Tyrell Instance
- Now each section gets its own Midi Channel. So all the controllers of section 1 respond to MIDI Channel 1 and the controllers of section 2 respond to MIDI Channel 2 and so on.
- Now you tell the Nord Lead that it should send via MIDI Channel 1 and you assign the Cutoff-Controller of the Nord Lead to the controller (the one of the first section) that is suppose to control the cutoff of the first Tyrell. And you proceed this way until all the controllers of the first sections are assigned. Then you swith to MIDI Channel 2 on the Nord Lead and assign the Cutoff-Controller of the Nord Lead to the controller (the one of the second section) that is suppose to control the cutoff of the second Tyrell. And here again you proceed this way until all the controllers of the second sections are assigned. Then you go on with the third and fourth section taking MIDI Channel 3 and 4.
In Edit-Mode
- In Edit Mode now you of course assign the controllers to the functions in each Tyrell
Result
- Now you can switch between the MIDI Channels on the Nord Lead. This is quiet easy because you can assign a MIDI Channel to one of four buttons on the Nord Lead.
- So if you switch to MIDI Channel 1 you can controll the functions of the first Tyrell and if you switch to MIDI Channel 2 you can controll the functions of the second Tyrell. And all in one Patch with only one controller which is even from the nineties. I find this really great. The only problem is that the Layout might get really messy, if you try to maybe control more functions of each Tyrell. And I really think maybe Mainstage in future could give us the opportunity to create bigger Layouts - maybe with different Windows or something.
Hope you might find this interesting or even helpful.
See you

Hello John,
This session is on Failover Functionality on all Cisco Firewalls, im not a geek on QOS however i have the answer for what you need. The way to limit traffic would be to enable QOS Policing on your Firewalls. The requirement that you have is about limiting 4 different tunnels to be utilizing the set limits and drop any further packets. This is called Traffic Policing. I tried out the following in my lab and it looks good.

Implementation Issue's:
1. Requirements not gathered correctly.
2. Slippage in milestones
3. Requirements changed in middle of development or during testing
4. Problems in testing
5. Unavailability of resources, (hardware as well as people).
Sol:
1 For 1. Make sure you check the requirements and your understanding with the client before you start writing the specs and the do the development. Its advisable to keep the client in the loop for all reviews and get their sign off before the development.
2. Make sure that you identify if your timelines are slipping during the project. Ideally you should have mitigation plans for the various reasons that timelines slip and get them signed off from the client even before the project begins.
3. Same as 2.In this case , you'll need to analyze the impact on your development and timelines. Renegotiate new timelines or a different process with the client for this event.
4. During implementation, you can face lot of problems during integration testing leading to more development or rework. Also during user testing you can get a lot of problems from the user community. You should plan for this and tackle it. Most will be understanding and training issues with the user community but can take up a lot of time and some will be genuine issues that were missed during integration testing.
5. This again will impact your timelines and should be factored into the project plan as well as your risks and mitigations document.
2 1. Requirements not gathered correctly.
Analyze user's daily job requirements and provide solutions that would meet those requirements. Record all steps and procedures.
2. Slippage in milestones
Have technical developers on site to do proof of concept at the very beginning of the project. Record all issues in a centralized database for logging issues and business process.
3. Requirements changed in middle of development or during testing
once you have the proof of concept in place and recorded all issues in the database, there should not be any changes unless the users wanted something that is out of scope from the initial requirement.
4. Problems in testing
Make sure all patch levels are up to date per SAP releases and make use of OSS and SAP consultants for dead-end problems. Begin development phase 5 to 6 months before go live and allow 2 months for testing
5. Unavailability of resources, (hardware as well as people).

Through integration with leading security vendors such as Blockade, Entegrity Solutions (formerly Gradient), Netegrity and PentaSafe, BEA WebLogic customers can take advantage of additional security capabilities such as single sign-on and advanced auditing.

Bart,
Which WLS 6.1 SP are you using? I know there have been problems with earlier SPs.
I can use the Gauge Monitor for HeapFreeCurrent without problems.
Here is the config I used:
SNMPGaugeMonitor EnabledServers="myserver"
MonitoredAttributeName="HeapFreeCurrent"
MonitoredMBeanName="myserver"
MonitoredMBeanType="JVMRuntime"
Name="HeapSize" PollingInterval="1" ThresholdHigh="5" ThresholdLow="1"/>
This does generate a trap successfully.
The MonitoredMBeanName in your case should be equal to the Enabled Server, ie.
wb (if heapfreecurrent you are monnitoring is part of server wb).

Hello,
I just started with SNMP Traps on Weblogic 6.1, and I'm afraid I have
some questions.
a) I configured a Guage monitor to monitor the JVM memory usage.
But I can't get it working, it never sends out a trap.
This is the config I'm using:
<SNMPGaugeMonitor EnabledServers="wb,adminserver"
MonitoredAttributeName="HeapFreeCurrent"
MonitoredMBeanName="default" MonitoredMBeanType="JVMRuntime"
Name="JVMRuntime" PollingInterval="1" ThresholdHigh="8000000"
ThresholdLow="7167424"/>
Anybody has a clue?
b) Is it possible to monitor if the JDBC connections fails with SNMP?
(and if
to many transactions fails due to timeouts)
tnx in advance!

What functionality are you looking from the Amplitude and Level Measurement Express VI? There is not one-one replacement you can use. However, there are definitely ways of calculating the DC and RMS values of a signal as well as finding the max and min points, etc. Please be more specific in what you are trying to accomplish.

• Help with midi latency issue?

I'm using a midiman 4x4 with Logic Pro 7.1. and just recently on play back of a midi part to my Nord Lead 3 there is really bad latency between the audio in Logic and the midi.
When i'm actually playing midi there is no issue whatsoever, just during playback after i've recorded a part.
I'm using an M-Box by the way..
This problem has only arisen in the last few days and i've updated the drivers for my midi interface but this has made no difference.
Any ideas???

• LOGIC 8 with UNITOR 8 MK2. . Why is my 'LTC LOCK Light Flashing on MK2?'

Hi.
I just set-up everything and installed Logic. ..
I couldn't find a set-up wizard to help me with the instruments. .
I plugged in my Control and NORD LEAD and they are all functioning?
The only thing is the Light on My MIDI Device is flashing??
LTC LOCK Flashes on the UNITOR MK2??
Any reason for this??
Sorry, It has been a while and I can't seem to find the problem if there even is one.
Cheers.
Thanks for your help.

I should also point out:
Two things that only serve as small fixes.
1) I can jack my I/O buffer size to 1024, that gets rid of the sound, but the midi response is terrible afterwards.
2) I can bounce out the midi as audio however I've just spent $4000 on my new G5 to avoid having to do this. See first post. Apart from this it makes the signal uneditable later on.
Of course, this has only just started happening these past couple weeks. If I purchase Logic 9, would this fix my problem? Also - I'm not 100% but my suspicion is the problem lies in Logic, not my Motu828. I've reinstalled the MOTU software, and reset the inteface. I suppose I should also point out that working with auc channels like this has always been a huge part of my work flow, so again I find it odd that it's just started to get like this.
Again, here is the scoop -I'll start with any multi-out pluign (UB, EXS24, etc), and then assign sounds to discrete aux channels. I'll set the input of the aux channels to correspond with the appropriate source.
Now I'll use an I/O plugin to to get an analog filter (for example), on my snare. EVERYTHING is fine until . . . . I make a new instrument track. The aux channel that the I/O on it sounds like a burst of PCM noise. Very digital, almost like it's been pitched WAY up.
Guys I'm not trying to be a pain here, that's the last thing I want, but this has been killing me for the past couple of weeks. So could someone PLEASE help me out?
Thank you!
Tyler.

• Best controller keyboard for Logic?

Hi
Could someone recommned a very good keyboard for working with the plug-in intstruments in Logic? I've played piano before, and because of that, I'd like a piano-like weighted action.

If you want a piano weighted action that will be very hard to find on anything with less than 88 keys.
The Akai MPK-88 is pretty nice. Drum pads, faders, weighted keys.
M-Audio has the Keystation 88, but some people don't like the action. Some people do.
Remember that you can use any MIDI keyboard as a controller if it has the controls and feel that you need. Just because it has built-in sounds doesn't mean you can't use it a s a controller.
My 2 favorite "keyboard controllers" are synths with built-in sounds. Kurz K2500 and Nord Lead.

• Logic Midi Problem

My problem is that the new synth ive got runs in time when the midi delay is set to 0.
My old synth needs to be at -53 ms to be in time.
When i start logic (in this project only!) i get an error saying that nord lead is connected to midi port of of my old audio interface and it tells me to change my settings.
Ive deleted all my old drivers and my old audio interface is no longer in the audio midi setup either.
Ive also deleted the nord lead instument from audio midi and made a new one called nord lead 2x which works fine with my fireface except for this timing issue.
When in midi project setting i can still transmit midi clock to the out of my old audio interface but my fireface doesnt show up?
Im guessing i need to delete my old midi interface and old nord lead instument from my logic project but i cant find how.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP!!!
Cheers guys

Thanks for the reply
ok so here's my gear
new interface - RME Fireface
old Interface - NI Audio Kontrol 1
Older synth - Nord lead 2x
New Synth Moog Voyager
Now my actual problem is that when everything is hooked up and i have logic sending midi to my 2 synths the nord lead 2x is out of time, when i go to the midi delay in the preferences and dial in
-53ms of midi delay the nord is in time but then the moog is out of time with the track.
Something else that happens which i thought might be connected to it is that when i open this particular project it tells me that the instrument nord lead is meant to be connected to midi port one of Audio kontrol 1 (my old interface).
Now in the audio midi setup window i have deleted the nord lead instument and replaced it with nord lead 2x, and also i have deleted the interface Audio Kontrol 1 (as well as everything to do with it on my computer). So i dont get why in this project it keeps asking me about the old instument and interface when they have been deleted from audio midi and arent in either the arrange or environment window.
That help??
