Integrating project planning software with business planning systems (PLM)

Hello there
I have been trying to obtain information about "integrating project planning systems with business planning systems (ERP, PLM)" but I could not find any proper source. Would you help me out on this?
I would like to focus on what benefits can be expected from a close integration of project planning
tools and enterprise information systems such as ERP and what evidence is there that
this is being exploited. If you can help me out with proper sources, I would be appreciated.
Best Regards

    Hi,
As per my understanding i think you would like to know the benefits of integrating your legacy Project Planning system with the ERP system. Please correct me if am wrong. If that is what you require, please search the forum as i am very sure that there are threads that explain the benefits of integration.

  • Integrating custom developed software with SAP B1.

    Dear Experts,
We have developed a CRM application by using C#.NET and SQL Server. All the reports are developed by using Crystsl Reports.
This CRM software meets the complete Customer Relation business requirements.
We have installed SAP B1 also in our company, and planning to integrate the CRM software to B1.
Is it possible to open the CRM application within SAP B1, say, if I click a Menu item? If so, how?
Can I share the data between both B1 and CRM? and how it can be done?
    Please help.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Toms P Abraham

    Hi TomsPA,
Is it possible to open the CRM application within SAP B1, say, if I click a Menu item? If so, how?
Yes, it's possible. Just add a menu entry for you application (I suggest under Menu 43535 - Business Partners Module), catch the Menu Event for your menu entry and open your CRM App.
You can find lots of topics about how to add Menus and handle Menu events here in the forum.
Can I share the data between both B1 and CRM? and how it can be done?
Yes you can, but it can sometimes be limited.
You can catch the B1 FormData events and sincronize data with your CRM or you can use the B1 DI Event Service to notify your CRM when new data has been added/removed/updated in B1 and synchronize both apps then.
I recommend you read this article about the method.
Any specific issues, please let us know.

  • How do I integrate SAP R/3 with an external system?

    Hi there!
I've run into a problem integrating SAP R/3 with an external system. The external system provides a webservice, and when I try to get WSDL file from that service, I am getting asked of authorization and when I authorize, I get error 500. The access is anonymous, as I'm being told. When I try to get just a response, server requests authorization. No matter what login and password I supply, I always get error 401 saying I'm not authorized.
I think the ICF is somewhat misconfigured, but how do I configure it? Or maybe there's a problem with requests I send. I don't know.
    Please help!

  • Bulk Import Projects along with Project Plan

    Hi,
I am working on a requirement to bulk import Projects into Ms Project Server along with associated Project Plans. I have checked Solution Starter Bulk Create source code. However,  the source code doesn't check-in project plans associated with
    projects.
It just creates Projects. I am looking for approach and alternatives to implement this requirement. Any help in this regard will be appreciated.

    Hi,
From experience you will be able to create Bulk project up to Project details only , for schedule level consider using PSI to Add tasks under the projects.

  • Planning Systems: MRPII, ERP and ERPII

Hello, my name is Omolade and am studying MSc Management at the University of Sheffield. We have been looking at MRPII, ERP and ERPII systems in an Operations Management module.
I have theory that a MRPII can be updated or at the least customised to enable a company to use it efficiently without having to replace the whole system. I just wanted to ask if this was possible and practical. I believe u2018this improvementu2019 is a lot more cheaper and cost effective for a company instead of implementing a new system like an ERP especially if the implement does not really give the company the competitive advantage it needs.
However, I understand that for a company to keep up with technology to ensure better integration in its business processes. It may need the implementation of ERPII steadily to gently phase out the MRPII. I wanted to ask again if it is better to move to ERPII without really using ERP, also how much would it cost to implement an ERP and ERPII and how long will they take respectively.
    Thank you,
I hope that you would be able to help me to understand planning systems better. I also hope to hear from you soon.
    Omolade

    Omolade,
First, remember that these forums are SAP specific.  As such, they deal mostly with SAP specific software solutions.
Your questions are generic, so there is no one answer.  MRPII, ERP, ERPII are models for running various aspects of a business.  Two scholars could argue that SAP offers all three or these concepts, or none of them at all.  Such is academia.
With regards to the decision to enhance, or to upgrade, or to implement new software, the ultimate answer is usually derived by balancing the cost vs benefit.  Typically, a company will embark on an intensive info gathering process to determine the requirements.  Then, an additional evaluation is made concerning the possible software solutions.  Note that seldom will a business discuss theory (MRPII vs ERP vs ???).  The decisions are "THIS software package vs THAT software package", "THIS consulting company vs THAT consulting company", "THIS modification vs THAT modification", etc etc.
The 'Right' decision usually ends up being the one that meets the requirements at the lowest total cost.  In business, only money talks.  Everything else is irrelevant.
That being said, businesses are notoriously conservative.  They usually prefer a solution that they can feel confident with.  Many times existing installed software packages evolve to become so customized so as to bear little resemblance with the plain vanilla package originally installed.  This happens because the business would rather 'tweak' the existing system rather than go through the pain of an implementation.  "Change management" costs are a huge drain on business resources, and smart businessmen avoid them where possible.
Your questions really can't be answered without specifics.  What is the legacy system?  What functions are currently being conducted on the system?  What is the cost of enhancing?  Which new software packages are suitable to provide the necessary functionalities?  The questions go on an on.  One cannot answer in the theoretical.  The answer is always "it depends".

  • Integrated Portfolio Planning

Integrated Portfolio Planning with SAP ERP and cProjects(Financials and Capacities)
One can maintain the financial and capacity planning automatically at the portfolio item level with which one can fill the planning views. SAP RPM uploads different type of cost information from a connected ERP system to the respective financial and capacity views. The detailed capacity requirement values from cProjects to the assigned capacity views can be copied.  There are a number of standard reports that help in the process. The report /RPM/PLAN_INT_PREP re-instantiates the financial and capacity categories that are defined in the Customizing as templates for the planning objects involved if the settings in the Customizing have been changed. For each combination of category, group, planning view, period type and planning period, the system generates a plan line item in the respective planning data tables. The reports /RPM/FIN_PLAN_INT and /RPM/CAP_PLAN_INT reports post the financial and capacity planned values to the respective planning objects.
Rollup functionality is an important functionality in PPM in which the financials and capacities are rolled up at the item level to the bucket level. The report /RPM/BUCKET_ROLLUP report summarizes the financial and capacity planning data of the portfolio items to the superordinate portfolio buckets.
One can determine financial planned values on the basis of cost or revenue rates that have been planned and maintained in cProjects. The integration enables one to calculate the required portfolio item budget on the basis of the capacity requirements that have been planned in cProjects without having to use the multilevel controlling. The mapping consists of three steps namely: 1) Financial view, financial category and financial group 2) Cost/revenue rate 3) Capacity view, capacity category and capacity group.
One can also derive the financial planned values from the role capacity planning in cprojects. The requirements and staffing are valuated with a cost or revenue rate that is directly assigned to the respective project roles or project role staffing in cProjects.
One can also map the capacity views to cost items in a similar way that is done for the financial values. Now capacity planned values are derived from assigned cost categories. In addition to the activity input planning, one can also use the project role requirements and role staffing that have been planned in cprojects to fill the capacity view that has been specifically defined for this purpose at the portfolio item level.

    Hello Tim,
in BI Integrated Planning you can
    - use multiple hierarchies
    - not plan on nodes/sub-totals
    - run a planning function to create all possible combinations
    - not use popups

  • Best Approach for integrating SAP CRM with Outage Management System

    Hi All,
We are moving towards deploying Outage Management System (Oracle Utilities NMS) to help localize the fault, achieve Outage Management and a transparent network with a near-real time stats. We already have SAP ECC 6.0, ISU, SAP PI 7.0 and SAP CRM 7.0. One of the challenges we are facing is to decide how should we go about the integration of SAP CRM with Oracle's Outage Management System.
Here is a sample business scenario,
CSR receives a call from a consumer and inquires about planned outages for a particular area.
This information is contained in the Outage Management System (OMS). OMS is SOA based and is hosted on Oracle Service Bus.
I want to know that is there any ES Bundles available for CRM-OMS integration? Should we go about Service Based Integration? What are the alternatives to Service based integration? Can it be done using BAPIs?
We receive around 1000 consumer complains and against every complain a ticket is generated in CRM. Now If CRM is integrated with OMS using SAP PI, the volume of the data being exchanged via PI is very much high and exceeds our licensed volume for SAP PI. So I do need to know the best practices for either approach that you may recommend.
    Regards,
    Adil Khalil

does anyone have an idea about this one, I've asked this question in a few places and no one really seems clear about it.
Also, I've read here and there that SAP Business One is not a real SAP product. It was bought by SAP and is sold by them but has little do to with SAP's technology (R/3, SAP ERP, Netweaver, SAP CRM, ...), and that therefore they don't support it that much ? Is any of this right ?
I'm just trying to get my vision of the SAP universe clear.
