Integrating Text and Audio

Hi,
I am building a web application to teach a foreign language
(with a HTML version and PDF version). Is there any way of
integration text and audio such that when an audio clip is played
the word spoken at any instant of time is highlighted.
Thanks
Peter

I personally have tried everything that Apple has provided for me. All the System Restore through iTunes, Factory Reset in Settings>General>Reset. Nothing has helped me in this situation. I am currently using the iPhone 6 Plus and has had it for a little over a month. I really don't think that the issue is with the software but an issue with the hardware since my sister and other family members is currently using the iPhone 6 Plus as well and is running the current software as I am. Apple has sent me a repair box to send to them since that is my last resort since my local AT&T store wont help me, and because my nearest Apple Store is about 2 hours and 30 minutes away. If I had a credit card or tons of money in the bank I could of had them send me a new replacement in no time and I would have to do is send my old one in with in 10 days. My goal is to have received the package, and have it delievered by Monday January 5,2015. I will post of up-to-date information on how my situation has been fixed and if I have any problems with the device when I come back.

  • Combining printed text and audio

I have a custom-made PC with a 146 gig hard drive and 3.25 gigs of ram, and am using Premiere Pro as part of CS4 Extended Master Collection. I hooked up with an audio techie on a Mac and purchased Premiere Pro for him. We are hoping to issue dvds of spoken word performances, like Paradise Lost, where viewers will be able to listen to a reading and follow it along on a screen. We would use a format similar to the ones they use for the Bible, where there is a book with the text on the pages and the pages turn or something like that as the audio goes on. I would design the text in ID, which I've done before with a prize-winning book of my own. A few Qs:
    1. Is Premiere Pro the right program to do this in? If it isn't, what, hopefully in the Adobe family, is?
    2. Assuming that it is, we want to do a short dry run with a single page or two just for the sake of practicing the coordinating of text and audio. Can this be done with my giving him the text in MS Word or Word Perfect, or must I typeset it for him?
    Thanks,
    Karla

One possible way - not the only way:
Decide what font size/how many lines per page will work for the screen sizes you want to use. Remember resolution will vary.
Reformat your Word doc to these settings.
Turn off as many toolbars as possible.
Use alt printscreen to capture the displayed page.
Open Accessories\Paint and press ctrl V to paste the screen capture. (Note: there will be a dialog box to the effect that the capture is larger. Click OK.)
There will be unwanted stuff on the edges and top, etc. Do not try to crop anything at this stage!
Save the file as a jpg as this will make for a smaller file size.
Be careful in your filenaming convention, e.g., if you think there will be 1000 pages, call the first one "Page_000001.jpg." This will allow the pages to sort in the proper order.
Just create a small sample of 20 or so pages to begin with to test your workflow.
Open Premiere, set up your project for whatever output you want to use, like DV at 720x480 or ....? You'll have to do some testing to see what works best.
Import your audio file and place it on the timeline. Play it to see if there are any problems.
Import your 20 files, but do not check the sequential files checkbox - you do not want to automatically create a movie. You just want individual files.
Select the first page and drag it onto the video timeline. Play the timeline and mark where the first page's audio ends. Now drag the left edge of the video clip to the marker.
This should give you a page of "text" that matches the length of the audio.
Move the current time cursor to the mark and drag your second page into position so it starts there. Play the audio, mark the endpoint, drag video clip to match. Repeat until done. (Or until exhausted!!)
SAVE FREQUENTLY using sequential numbers in the filenames so you always have a (somewhat) recent backup version.
There may be better ways to do all of this, but at least this will give you some starting points to work with.
Once you are ready to export the video, you can use the crop function (up at the top of the export page dialog) to trim off all the unwanted borders. You can switch between input & output to see how it will look. If you tried cropping in Paint, you would have to do each page individually, and this job will be hard enough as it is!!
    Best of Luck!!
    HTH,:-)

  • Pictures disappeared, titles and audio still play

    Hello Forum,
I made a slideshow in iMovie 09 of pictures from my vacation and specially fitted songs and titles into it. When I had finished, I clicked on the Optimize Video (Large) choice in the File menu, thinking it would make my video better. When the optimization had finished, I tried to play the movie, but now instead of seeing the pictures, audio, and text put together, all I see is a black screen along with text and audio, and there is no option to undo optimization. This problem persists even in both full screen mode and after the project had been prepared to be exported into iDVD. The strange thing is that all of the pictures are still present in the project pane, but when I try to play the movie it just won't show them. I don't want to have to restart because I've put so much work into this. Could somebody help me solve this problem?
    Thanks,
    plato428

I called it "making a montage of my favorite movie clips." It is what it is. Just how I said it. I do stand up impressions part time and sometimes, believe it or not i get recorded, or I record myself and "make a montage of all my favorite movie clips" or scenes from a movie or anything for that matter. So as illegal as that is I apologize that you want to monitor that stuff.
So lets step out of our assumptive sheriff shoes and stop hazardly guessing at anything that you would disprove of. Everyone else has been very helpful. Besides, all these questions centralize around a basketball highlight video I am making for a coach, that I myself recorded and own the copyright to, to be specific and hopefully clarify your hunch.
As a video editor you also often receive footage with numerous formats depending on who you're working with. Not everything is an illegal transaction that you assume it to be. Thanks

doesn't need to be a "long" training period, but you are trying to
shortcut ALL training and begin at the end. I advise you learn to
use Captivate as a generator of learning objects (LO) for the LMS.
You seem to be thinking you can to use it as a "shell" for your
Flash output and it just isn't a Flash plug-in ... it is a
self-standing and sometimes complicated - but usually easy to learn
    - learning tool in its own right (by "easy to learn" I don't mean
    overnight, in any case).
Reasons why include the fact that Flash SWFs are vector based
while Captivate uses bitmapped graphics. Audio is handled entirely
differently on the two. Captivate's communication with the LMS is
not - I think - going to pass on scoring from the movie-in-a-movie
approach you are trying to use. And on and on.
Sorry I don't have more encouraging news for you. Good luck,
    michelle.

If there is a box around what it's reading that's Voiceover and you can ask Siri to turn it off.
if you run two fingers down the page and it reads thats speak screen. Go to settings> general> accessibility> speech> speak screen> off.

  • Mouse and Audio stutter/freezes with Intel ICH9R AHCI drivers

edit: Initially (in original post) I suspected the random mouse and audio stutter/freezes were from a driver update. However between a reboot during these updates I had disconnected an eSATA cable from a drive that was not powered. It turns out the ICH9R when running in AHCI or RAID mode with appropriate drivers installed has problems with some HDDs when the drive isn't powered but the SATA data cable is connected. This is quite normal in SATA enclosures which I have plenty.
What makes this more puzzling is that the stutter/freezes are very tiny and hard to notice IF you don't have any PCI cards connected. With a Intel 100 Mbit PCI NIC connected these stutters became real blocking issue that would have prompted me to return this Gigabyte G33 motherboard (Also affects P35) to the shop had I noticed this issue sooner. I'm not yet sure whether this stutter w/ AHCI/RAID issue affects only the Gigabyte boards but what is certain is that it does affect these in quantity based on how there's others reporting the exact same issue if googling around.

This issue has been confirmed not to be limited to just my system.

Same problem here, it's not limited to Vista, also happens on XP/2003 both 32/64 bit. I'm 99% sure it's to do with the Intel AHCI/Matrix storage driver. It'd be interesting to know what your motherboard brand/model is. Mine is Gigabyte DS2R and I've seen reports of this issue on other forums as well. I'm using the integrated Intel graphics and every component is Intel except Audio Realtek and Network Broadcom. The issue goes away by disabling AHCI/RAID but you lose hot-swap of SATA drives and NCQ.
The primary indicator for this issue is that if any of the SATA ports has a drive that is plugged in but not powered up (and not powered down by the AHCI driver programmatically) then you get this global stutter/studder/hickups/choppy. In audio it sounds like tiny repeats. How bad it is seems to depend on what drive brand is plugged in etc so on some combinations it's very tiny and doesn't happen that often, on other drives it's more constant and easy to detect.
    I'd suggest you report at:

    Chipsets/Chipset software/Matrix storage Technology
btw. My AHCI BIOS/OROM version that is shown on boot with AHCI/RAID enabled is iSRC 1.07 08042006, what's yours?

Though most posts in this thread involve laptops and many of them attempt to isolate the problem in wireless network adapters, let me assure you the same problem can show up in a desktop with wired-ethernet-only. (Admittedly, it's a Realtek onboard gigabit LAN, and Realtek has been fingered by a number of you for its drivers, at least its audio drivers.)
On a brand new core2-quad P35 chipset machine with 4GB ddrII, with a completely clean install of Vista 32 business, I have been suffering intermittent global stuttering. It affects not only audio (of any sort, through any player, whether or not dsp-enhanced) but also video (you can see it in screen saver motion, for instance) and even cursor or mouse movement (hit and hold the spacebar in a text editor and watch the stuttering fun begin!). It's intermittent but not random; that is, it can disappear for a while after I apply one of my stab-in-the-dark fixes (read on) but can come back and then generally remains until I re-apply a fix. It's been like this since about day 1. Well, maybe day 2 or 3.
I've seen so many variants of this problem posted in so many forums, with so many theories, that I could spend the next three months doing nothing but troubleshooting it, assuming I had the budget and time to try endless substitute components or re-builds from scratch, but there's no assurance any or all of that would actually fix it. I do have the Intel Storage Matrix AHCI drivers pre-installed, and Intel itself vaguely alludes to possible 'degraded performance in Vista' with regard to those drivers--is this what they're talking about? They don't say. I do have an Nvidia 8800gts, and Nvidia forums are full of complaints about unacceptable issues with their video drivers, but again it's vague, no smoking gun for global stuttering. I have tried THREE different audio configurations--the onboard realtek hi-def; an x-fi elite; and a c-media based Omega Claro card. I have the problem with all of them. Discovering how musical the c-media card is was a happy accidental side effect of this miserable odyssey, but it really just makes it more frustrating, since I now want to listen to music more than ever but can't find a permanent solution to this vexing problem.
One of the weirdest symptoms is that the stuttering can re-appear (if it has been gone for a few days) just by connecting an external SATA drive, even if the drive is not turned on! Equally weird: simply going into the BIOS and just looking, changing nothing, exiting without saving, can cause it to reappear upon re-boot!
And to ice this cake of weirdness, here are some things that can make it go away (sometimes, at least for a while): removing the external SATA drive and rebooting; removing and re-seating the cards on the motherboard; and clearing the BIOS (jumper or pull out the battery) and then re-entering all the same settings as were there already.
The symptoms are driving me nuts, as audio is one of my main uses for a computer, but it's the HUH? quality of these various actions that can seem to make the problem disappear or re-appear that are really threatening my sanity. If anybody can sift a better clue out of these ashes of frustration than I can, I wish you would post it.

  • Text and email sound notifications...........no options?

Incredible2 is my first smart phone so maybe I'm missing something here. Can't  I customize the text and email alerts with my own sound or am I stuck with the options that are on the phone? Even with the volume turned up all the way I can't hear any alert unless the phone is out of my pocket and sitting right next to me. Any suggestions?

You can set a custom ringtone for text messages, email, gtalk, gmail, etc. by going into each app, press the menu button and select settings.  There will be an option to change the ringtone.
For your own custom ringtones, place the mp3 or audio files in the following on the sd card.  The "SD carddrive" is the root of the sd card or drive letter when it is plugged into the computer.
    SD carddrive:\media\audio\ringtones
    SD carddrive:\media\audio\notifications
    SD carddrive:\media\audio\alarms
Once the files are in those folders, the phone will automatically found the files and list them in the ringtone selection list.  You might have to reboot the phone to force a rescan of the sd card.

  • IOS 8 and Bluetooth Phone and Audio Streaming Failing

I have a 2013 Nissan Pathfinder and a 2015 Nissan Leaf, both with bluetooth phone integration and audio streaming support.  Both cars worked fine when I had two iPhone 5s paired to both cars and running latest iOS 7.  Both phones worked in both cars and could fully integrate to make calls and also to stream audio from device to car.
When I upgraded one iPhone 5s to iOS 8 and replaced the other with an iPhone 6Plus running iOS 8, both are having problems with both cars.
    1.  Both gave a "failed connection" message but the phones do actually pair.
    2.  Both cars show a phone handset with a line through it on the in-car display which means no connection.
    3.  The "5 bars" cell signal indicator on the in-car display no longer shows up.
    3.  Outgoing calls made from phone and put through car system work fine except for some garbled audio.
    4.  Incoming calls make the wrong screen appear on the nissan display and can not be answered by the display on the car.  Pushing the answer button on the in-car display doesn't do anything.
Lots of other tiny issues.  Apple needs a fix here.  I called Nissan and they said it's 100% Apple's fault.
Anyone else having issues with Nissan Bluetooth integration or any other manufacturer?

We have a 2008 Nissan Sentra - The bluetooth pairs ok.  When a call comes in on my 5S or my wife's 4S the bluetooth does not do anything.  The bluetooth does not ring and it does not connect to the call.  The call has to be answered on the phone.  Like I said, the phones are paired.  You can access Siri through the bluetooth to initiate a call.  Once the call is connecting, the bluetooth drops off and there is no sound.  Just like when you receive a call.  Apple needs to fix this.  This is completely ridiculous.  I WAS going to buy an iPhone 6.  I will not if this is not fixed.

  • Copy and paste text and graphics between Flash and Illustrator

When copying text in Illustrator and pasting them to Flash, some text would become drawing objects and some remain text. A drawing object is not editable. If I import the AI file, then text remains text but the placement of graphics can be a little bit off sometimes.
It's just not possible to copy-and-paste text and graphics from Flash to Illustrator.
Is it just me? If not, when will Adobe have better integration between the 2?
    Thanks,

Even though you can change your InDesign preferences for Clipboard Handling to allow formatted information to be pasted into InDesign from other programs, unfortunately Illustrator still won't allow you paste in text with formatting. This is due to how Illustrator and InDesign handle text differently. Even if you copy the text from Illustrator and paste it into a program like Word, which has a lot of different ways to handle formatted text, Illustrator just treats text differently than other Adobe applications.

  • How do you create a save as default folder for MP3 files used Captivate text to audio voices files?

How do you create a save as default folder for MP3 files used Captivate text to audio voices files?

    Hi Ed
Thank you for contacting me, however I already know how to save text to
audio files via timeline using the Export feature.
So my question was not entirely clear and I apologize for that.  To explain
further, whenever I save a text to audio file, captivate takes me to a
default save as folder where I then have browse back to my production
folder where I am keeping all my Txt to Aud files.  This is very tedious
process when you have alot of files to save.  So my question was is there a
way to configure captivate so I can make my production folder the default
file for whenever I save a Txt to Audio file through Export feature that
the system automatically takes me to that production folder, and I am
spared the long tedious process of saving the file manually to the
    prodcution folder I want.
I have copy the pathway to the production folder in the URL filed in the
Save As dialoge box and that workaround as cut the work down but I still
have to paste that URL field to point the file to the right folder. So it
would be nice if I could do everything automatically.  Microsoft makes this
capability in their MS Office applications, so I was thinking Adobe might
do the same thing.  Your help with this would be appreicated,
    Thanks

  • Images and audio files in a database

how does one put images and audio files in oracle 8? What are the data types going to be in the tables for images and audio files..?
    null

One of the most important reasons that one would choose to store multimedia in the database is to be able to manage this content safely and efficiently. Having multimedia in the database allows you to use database itegrity techniques to keep your data safe and consistent. If you choose to use BFILE storage, you will NOT have these advantages. You will have to back up the database, and the filesystem(s) where the multimedia is stored, and devise a way to keep this data consistent. You will not be able to rely upon the database backup entirely, you would need filesystem backups to be coordinated with database backups.
I would suggest that you store the multimedia in BLOBs within the database.
From the LOB application developer's guide:
    * External (BFILE) LOBs do not participate in transactions. Any support for integrity and durability must be provided by the underlying file system as governed by the operating system.
