Integrating TortoiseSVN with LabVIEW's Compare tool

I’m trying to set up the TortoiseSVN Diff tool, as described:
https://decibel.ni.com/content/docs/DOC-12175 and
http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/3BEC521972301FF2862576EA00609CA6
To configure TortoiseSVN to use LabVIEW’s compare tool I added the following for “.vi” file extensions:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\Shared\LabVIEW Compare\LVCompare.exe" %mine %base -nobdcosm –nobdpos
The links above tell you use “Program Files,” but on my system the LVCompare.exe is located in my “Program Files (x86)” directory.
When I try to run the diff tool (right click on the file in question -> TortoiseSVN -> Diff with previous version), I get the following error:
I cannot get the LVCompare tool to work with the command prompt either, as described:
http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361H-01/lvhowto/configlvcomp_thirdparty/
I did notice that it mentions the Compare tool is only available with LabVIEW Professional Development System.  Does this apply for using it with TortoiseSVN as well? I am running LabVIEW 2011 Full Development System on Windows 7 (64 bit).  The version of TortoiseSVN I am using is: TortoiseSVN 1.7.6, Build 22632 - 64 Bit , 2012/03/08 18:29:39 Subversion 1.7.4.
Any help getting the LVCompare tool integrated with TortoiseSVN to work would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Lauren

Yes it does. LVCompare is only a simple wrapper executable that eventually tries to run a VI in the LabVIEW installation directory. And this VI will not work if the LabVIEW installation is not licensed as Professional Development system.
Note to the AEs: In the second link of Laura's post, it states incorrectly: Primary Software: LabVIEW Development Systems>>LabVIEW Base Package
This is completely contradictory to the note in the last link, that states that the Professional Development System is required. A documentation correction request seems in order.

  • Configuring ClearCase with LabVIEW SCC

    Hi,
I am developing VIs with LabVIEW pro. We are using ClearCase for SCC and I would like to configure LabVIEW with ClearCase.
VIs are stored under vobs on a world wide network.
Does anyone know how I can do?
Second question, is it possible to configure ClearCase to use the LabVIEW pro compare tool? This will give ClearCase the capability to compare VI versions.
    BR,
    Pascal.

    Hello,
ClearCase is not supported by LabVIEW, if you want to use a SCC, you can perform this task with the following SCC providers: Perforce and Visual Source Safe and Built-in.
Built-in SCC is recommended only for small projects and is available in LabVIEW at no additional cost. “Microsoft Visual Source Safe” and “Perforce SCM” are complete SCC tools that are fully integrated into LabVIEW but must be purchased from the corresponding vendor.
You can find more information at the following link:

  • LabVIEW Compare Tool load time of files from repository

I have the LabVIEW compare tool setup for differences for .ctl and .vi files in Surround SCM source code control system.  The source code control system runs on a networked server.  My PC is on the same network as the server.
When the LabVIEW compare tool reads VIs that are from a source control repository for diffing against files on my computer, it seems to load the repository files from a temporary folder located in users\username\appdata.  It takes a long time to load VIs that have lots of subVIs because as the tool searches for each subVI the tool begins its search in the vi.lib and instr.lib folders before finding the subVI in the temporary folder.  It is taking a few seconds and sometimes as much as 10 seconds to load each subVI.  This takes a lot of time to Diff VIs that have many subVIs.  Is there a way to make the diffing process go quicker?  Or is this something that would need to be fixed in the LabVIEW compare tool?
    Thanks,
    Gary
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

That's the normal behavior of the LVCompare.exe, and the folders at which starts looking for subVIs or control files (.ctl) cannot be modified. The available options that can be configured are the following:

    Hi,
I was looking for information and pointers on EP integration with third party BI tools like Business Objects etc.  Would be grateful.
    Thanks,

Thanks. We have a full fledged Business Objects reporting environment.  My question is:  As a beginner in the EP space, I would like to understand how to treat the  Business Objects environment as one of the content providers for the Enterprise Portal?  Are there any documents or manuals that talk about the integration of EP with Business Objects?  I know the question is too broad, but any pointers would be useful.

  • Integration of ADF with Vignette(Content Management Tool)

    Hi
Is it possible to integrate ADF with vignette(Content Management Tool) in any way so that i could have the power of both the tools in developing web pages and managing the contents of it in a better way?

ADF is an standards-based J2EE development framework, if Vignette support integration with J2EE applications then the answer would be yes, but you need to ask Vignette support.
BTW - this forum is for Oracle Portal questions, please use the ADF forum for questions on ADF.

    Hi,
I am currently working on Siebel 8.1 and have a requirement to integrate it with Lotus Knowledge Management tool.
Does Oracle provide OOTB adapters for integration for Lotus KM just like Inquira?
    Please let me know.
    Regards.

    Hi,
I am not able to find any information regarding integration of Lotus Knowlegde Management with Siebel.
Unless someone else in this forum has an answer, I recommend you to open a Service Request in support.oracle.com to confirm if such integration exists, and if not ask for a product enhancement request for this integration or request another solution that may be suitable. You can also contact IBM to verify if they have performed any validation using both products.
    Thanks,

Labview isn't cheap, but it would certainly allow you to build a program (set of vi's - virtual instruments) that would do what you describe. Where would the timecode information come from? Your vi, or program, would: Start up, initialize the serial port, loop until a trigger happened, read the timecode (from where?), output that timecode out the serial port in a loop until you pressed the stop button. There is a free evaluation of Labview software available from NI - the base product itself runs about $995.

  • Canon digital camera integration with Labview

    hi,
i need to integrate canon digital camera with labview.
i have applied for the SDK from canon , and waiting for the
reply from them. i have got a liitle control of the camera from the
dll from PS remote from http://www.breezesys.com/PSRemote/
but not able to grab the images to labview ,
if any one has worked on similar applications kindly help
    thanks and regards,
    sundar.

    hi there,
there's a function SetOutputPath(path) where you can specify the path where the driver of the camera saves the pictures. for more information see the SDK docs. after the pictures have been saved to disk you can read the files with the LV-VIs from the "Graphics & Sound" palette. there are some examples shipped with LV of how to read image files.

  • Integrating custom PCIe hardware with LabView

Hi, I am new to LabView so appologize if question is in the wrong place.
I have a custom PCIe acquisition card that I want to use in LabView environment to postprocess some data. So far the board has been used successfully with its windows drivers and VS.NET software. What is the process for setting up a device like that in LabView? Can LabView use the COM object windows driver just like a Visual Studio project would? If yes, is there a document that explains how this is done?
I have worked with NI's own instruments where the driver is provided and seamlessly integrates into the LabView, but I am a bit lost with this custom non NI board.
    Thank you.

Thanks. I tried searching that site for examples... but this is a board that our company has developed (software defined radio) and I am certain no one has written any drivers for it yet. Thats the problem statement that I am trying to research. What would it take to make the board we designed compatible with LabView. Since this is a Software defined radio platform, LabView offers some useful functions that can be used to postprocess and analyze data captured by our card.
Ideal goal is to have LabView module capture data from PCIe buffer allowing for further processing (filtering, FFT, demodulation, etc...). I would appreciate if you can direct me to some examples or literature on this topic.
    Thanks,
    Anton

  • Replacing a PLC with LabView Article

I just read the article "Replacing a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) with LabVIEW and FieldPoint for Composting Plant Automation ". I am very concerned by the author's lack of knowledge about current PLC's. This article does not fairly compare the two platforms and is not accurate. For example, the author states that 100 msec is a typical response time for a PLC. This is absurd. Today, even low end PLCs can achieve responses time below 10 msec and high end PLCs even as low as 1 msec. It all boils down to specifying the right hardware for the application. One real danger the author does not address with building a "soft PLC" is the potential for the I/O not to fail to a safe condition if the operating system (Windows) lock
s up. This can be disastrous and unsafe for many control applications. I would suggest any reader that is seriously considering replacing a PLC in an industrial environment with a "soft PLC" watch out for this potential shortcoming. Readers can visit www.isa.org to find additional information on this issue.
I would not dispute that for a pure data acquisition application LabView can offer a superior solution. The safety conern can be mitigated if there is a "hard wired" safety system that has been properly designed. However, many times the PLC may provide safety shutdowns that depend on its true deterministic operating system and high reliability.
I hope that readers will not interpret this as a slam against LabView but as encouragement research this issue further from a different perspective.

I can see from your comments that you have a firm grasp of the PLC/vs PC concept, and agree with your comments. I have been an instrumentation developer/integrator for 36+ years, and have first hand experience with the situation(s) to which you refer. I have found the optimum solution has been a combination of PC/MMI software and PLC hardware. I have many such systems up and running in different industries, and have found this to be the best overall solution. Let the PC do what it does best(MMI display, complex calculations and decision making), and the PLC what it does best(solid deterministic control, with a non-windows operating system). I usually use an OPC server for communication between the two units, and with proper software design on both ends,
and a hardwired E-Stop system, excellent overall opertion/safety is achieved.
Your comments should serve as good stimulus for other developers.

    Hi, Alex,
While I'm not in a position to commit to anything official (I'm in
engineering, not PM), I think I can safely say that if the name "IBM"
isn't a problem for us, the name "WebSphere" won't be either. (And the
way IBM is going with slapping "WebSphere" on everything they can so
they can claim more WebSphere sales, they're practially synonmymous.
I'm not working on our VisualAge stuff now, but I did in the past. We
put a tremendous amount of effort into integrating with VisualAge for
comparatively little return, because the VAJ API is so limited, but it
was worth it to do the best we can to allow you to use VAJ to develop
for WebLogic, and not abandon VisualAge users to WebSphere. If IBM
moves to a tool that makes it easier for us to do that and lets us
provide a better user experience, then I believe we'll take advantage
    of
it. (And of course, IBM is using tools to try to steer developers to
WebSphere, so if we can make them work well for WebLogic, too, that
helps us as well as benefiting developers.)

I will certainly do so, and I will ask the other developers here todo so as

A big concern in the VAJ community is whether partners like BEA willwant to

  • Integrating SAP with SIEBEL

    HI Friends,
I need some documents or any links on how SIEBEL system can be integrated with SAP system.
    Thanks,
    Lavanya.

    Hi
First of all, integrating Siebel with SAP is certainly something
that can be done. You mention that your client is moving to 4.6
which is very good for any integration endeavor since 4.6C has almost
2000 BAPIs compared to 400 in 4.0. The hardest part of the project
will be to exactly define the interfaces required and find out
which BAPIs and/or IDoc Message Types to use for the communication.
Make sure that the BAPIs/IDoc Message types you have identified
cover the specific functional requirements your client has.
If not, you may need some custom ABAP development.
If you are looking for tools to help with the project, take at look at
www.scribesoft.com. They have a lot of experience in the CRM world
and specific connectors for SAP and Siebel.

  • Anyone Use GIT with LabVIEW?

I think that the vast majority of people using SCM with LabVIEW are using either Perforce or SVN. Is there anyone who either uses or has used GIT, integrated into LabVIEW or not integrated? (I think there is a tool that uses the SVN protocol to talk to GIT)
If so what were your experiences?
    =====================
    LabVIEW 2012

There are several other posts on LAVA mentioning GIT (I think a lot where from FIRST). Post there (just link this post there as cross-post).
I personally think, that my arguments don't speak against GIT. I've been using SVN and Hg(mercurial) without any integration in the LV IDE (although I have some integration for Hg yet).
I forgot to mention: Using SVN you could use the plug-in from JKI. If your company invests the money, I'm sure it' a **bleep** good deal.
All these tools perform very well, even if you don't have the native LV support (as VSS, Perforce).
If you want a poll, you can check the NI-community features. Just setup one for SCC specifics. I was planning to do one myself, but I don't have the time. It' still not as good (from the quality and quantity of posts) a the forums, but has some cool features (wikis, polls). Advertise this on the most up-to-date posts on SCC issues. I and many others will drop in, I'm sure.

  • Disk Utility has Lost Connection with the Disk Managment Tool

    Hi,
For starters, this problem is not associated with the thread that Brian Z. has posted at the top of this forum. Having said that, here's my problem:
I had installed Security Update 2006-003, and Quicktime 7.1. Permissions were repaired before and after each installation, and all went well.
Some hours later, I was experimenting with Apple Remote Desktop. I had activated ARD in the System Preferences>Sharing pane, and it provided me an IP address associated with ARD. I then turned on Airport, and ARD provided me with an IP address associated with that connection. However when I turned off my modem connection, System Preferences>Sharing hung, and had to be Force Quit.

Thinking a plist had become corrupted, I trashed the following:
    com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    com.apple.RemoteDesktop.plist
    com.apple.Remotemanagement.plist
    com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist.
System Preferences started out very slowly, but then all the panes except Sharing would work ok.
I booted from the install disk and performed a Disk Repair. There were no problems reported.
When I tried to run a Repair Permissions, after about 20 seconds I got the, "Disk Utility has lost connection with the disk management tool and can not continue. Please quit and relaunch Disk Utility."
I quit D.U. and the Installer, and was able to successfully run a Repair Permissions from the D.U. in my Utilities folder. It had no problems to report.
Continuting to troubleshoot the System Preferences problem, I then trashed the com.apple.preferencepanes.cache. This solved my System Preferences>Sharing problem.
However, I am still unable to perform a Repair Permissions after booting from my install disk (I get the subject message). Repairing permissions from the Disk Utility in my Utilies folder works fine.
Any thoughts out there on a logical way to troubleshoot where my problem is? Is there a way to get a console log when I'm running DU from the install disk, or a comparable source??
