Integration BPC-BW: BPC Dimensions = CHAR 20

Hi,
When creating BPC dimensions, by default they are created as CHAR 20 info objects. This could give problems when loading from a BPC cube to a BW cube having info-objects with less number of characters ...
- I presume this cannot be changed (but confirmation is always nice to know)
- Did anyone already came accross this problem and how did you solve it
- Is there a way to insert a validation in BPC that the length of an ID of a dimension member should not exceed a certain length when creating these members manually in BPC ...
I know the situation above will be rather be exceptional, but we have a case where we faced this issue ... Anyone has a best practise for this
D

Hi Dries,
Oddly enough we came across the same issue yesteday when loading WBS elements from the regular Info Object into a BPC dim.  To prevent issues on the front-end we normally add pre-fixes to Dim Members to ensure all members are unique e.g. WBS_ for WBS elements.  Unfortunately the WBS elements can be up-to 18 characters long in our ECC system.
Unfortuantely I don't have a solution in this case which makes this response pretty useless, we took the risk that no WBS Elements would ever be identical to other Dim Members in the same Application i.e. removed the pre-fix.  Push comes to shove we could have used W_ or W, but if a longer WBS comes along we'd be stuffed.
Our BW developer was wondering whether we could manually change the 20 character limit without impacting any functionality elsewhere.  Has anyone tried this?
Cheers
Stuart

  • BPC Consolidation Account Dimension - R_ACCT X C_ACCT X O_ACCT X P_ACCT

    Hi everyone,
I search for all the forum and I didn't find any explanation about the use of the "standards" accounts on BPC, we are using BPC 7.0 for NW.
Why BPC NW differentiate the dimensions depending on which application are going to be included?
For example BPC NW has four dimensions for the account C_ACCT(consolidation), R_ACCT(rate), P_ACCT(Planning) and O_ACCT(Ownership).
In our consolidation project we have the planning front too so at the end we will have only a group chart of account for both.
Can we maintain only an account dimension or is there a technically requirement to mantain three or more account dimensions?
One for Legal App, one for Ownership App, one for Intercompany Matching App and one for planning?
So we should have to use same dimension, an example the C_ACCT, on all application or we have to use each dimension in their owing application and change them with same data? That's the question.
Could someone explain what would we do in this scenario? Please don't send documentation because on every one we read are saying to use different, but how is the maintenance for that, explain this.
    Best Regards
    Alexandre

    Hello Alexandre,
You cannot use the same account dimension in all these applications, because the Rate and Ownership applications are designed to store currency conversion and ownership related data, so it would make no sense to add a financial chart of account to these applications. You could however use the same CoA between your Consolidation and your ICMatching, the idea to have two different ones is that you only have Intercompany data from some of your accounts and you may also want to use different roll-ups of your account to perform you IC Matching.
Here are the 4 account dimension:
    - R_ACCT used in the Rate application, contains type of rates (like "END", "AVG)
    - O_ACCT used in the Ownership application, contains method and percentage of consolidations (like "METHOD","PCON","POWN,...)
    - C_ACCT used in the consolidation application, containt the financial Char of Account (Balance Sheet, P&L, ...)
    - P_ACCT used in the planning application, contains account specific for Planning.
You could share the same CoA between your Consolidaiton and Planning, as long as you can defined a common one that fits both purposes

  • BPC 4.2 Dimension not saved

    Hello dear friends,
I 'm encoutering a prroblem when trying to process a dimension in bpc version 4.2
when i click on the process button i have this message
    CANNOT SAVE THIS WORKBOOK
ERROR: DIMENSION.XLS EXCEL FILE WAS NOT SAVED
    ERROR: DOCUMENT NOT SAVED
i tried to go to manage dimensions screen and save my dimension again
i saved the application using this dimension again
i saved on my desktop the xls file and tried to save it manually on the server but can't save it
please can you help me regarding this issue, how can i solve it without creating a new dimension etc...
    thanks in advance
    best regards
    C.L

The member sheet itself might be corrupted.  Rename the suspect sheet to dimension_old.xls and then copy and paste its contents into a new workbook.  Don't forget to rename the worksheet tabs.
Also, this is old OutlookSoft KB article:
    Please check the following:
Make sure the AdminApp directory is not set to read-only. If it is and cannot be changed you can recreate the directory and move everything over to the new folder.
Delete the files under the AdminApp/LogFiles folder.
    Try validating and processing again.
This can also be caused by load balancing software running. We have an issue with load balancing that is under investigation right now. If you have two or more webservers with load balancing you will get these messages periodically. At this time, we recommend using only 1 web server.
    Another Osoft KB:
Please try the following on the Everest Server to resolve this issue.</p>
Turn off "enable authoring" on the default web site in IIS on the Everest Server, this forces Everest to use WEBDAV instead of FrontPage Server Extensions which we have found to be more stable. NOTE: IF YOU ARE USING WINDOWS 2003 SERVER YOU WILL FIND THIS UNDER "WEB SERVICE EXTENSTIONS."
Delete all vticnf folders on the Everest Server and in IIS. These folders are a result of using Frontpage Server Extensions rather than WEBDAV.
    Enable Content Expiration in IIS:
Under the Default Web Site folder, navigate to the Application Set folder.
Expand the AppSet then right click on the Adminapp folder and select Properties.
On the HTTP Headers tab select the Enable Content Expiration check box and select the Expire Immediately radio button.
    Click Apply then click OK.
Repeat for all Application Sets under the Default Web Site.
Run the server diagnostic utility on the Everest Server and check results. It is possible that some of the directories in IIS are not set for "WRITE" access.

  • SAP BPC doesnt process dimensions, but it shows that was successful

    Hello Experts,
We are using SAP BPC 7.0M SP7 with the StarterKit. When we try to process a dimension, it finishes in step 1 of 4, and software says that it was successful, but in BPC Excel we cant show the changes in our dimension, so its not processing anything. Also it doesnt show any info about the process. It also happens in the original IFRS (Application set of the StarterKit), not only in our customized application set.
Any idea about how we can solve it?

    Hello,
You can take a look at mbrDimension Name within the database to see if it has been added. You can run a query for the member ID to verify that it's been added.
In any event, please let us know.

  • Update BPC 10 NW dimensions(infoObject) with ordinary BI way

    Dear Experts,
I was told that it's recommended not to touch BPC dimension in BI (with RSA1). It was back in BPC 7.5.
How about the new version 10 NW? what's the concept to update BPC master data with BI?
appreciate all your comments & help

    Hi Jim,
Yes, you can use BW tools to load Dimensions and Applications, but then you'll loose a lot of flexibility that DM Packages provide. For example, you'll have to create a Process Chain for each load while BPC uses same Process Chain for all loads; you'd loose capability of deleting Master Data while BPC has Overwrite mode; you'll have to switch InfoCube modes between Loading and Planning.
So, it's possible, but not advisable, like it was in 7.5.

  • BPC Data Generator Dimension List Issue

    Hi BPC NW Experts,
Could you, please, help to resolve the following issue?
During selection of an application set in the BPC Data Generator Tool we do not get the list of the application set dimensions.
We are running on BPC NW 7.5 SP07.
The local machine has Windows 7 Professionsl, Microsoft Office 2010, Microsoft .Net Framework 4 Client Profile installations.
    Thank you very much.
    Mila

    Hi Mila,
i have the same issue. You can work around this problem by using the browse option:
Then you can select the dimension xml-file definitions manually
    C:\Users\<user>\My Documents\PC_NW\<system>\Admin\<appset>\AdminAPP\DimCache\

  • BPC cannot read dimension : ACCOUNT

    Hi all,
This is the second time we encounter this incident in our BPC production environment.
A user opens BPC Excel, and on launch, there is a popup with the message that the system cannot read the dimension ACCOUNT. The two times it was the same dimension.
After clicking on OK, in the action pane, in place of the account dimension, there is "...more..." and when I click on this (I also reproduce the issue), I cannot see any member in the window.
The only solution I found is to open the administration and manage the members, all seems to be OK except the format of the file. I process the dimension with Full Process and Appset offline, and the correct situation is then restored.
We need to understand what is happening, but I clearly have no idea.
Could you help me please ?
    Thank you very much

Some changes into Account dimension were done and it was not performed a full process for that dinmension.
It was just process dimension without full process.
This was the cause of the issue and actually the solution is the one provided by you.
You just have to track the admin processes performed and you will find out what process was not done correct.
    Kind Regards

  • BPC. Change Dimensions

    Hello BPC Experts,
We are trying to rebuilt an application set, so we are going to change some of its applications.
The idea that we have is to select some properties of several dimensions and make new dimensions with them.
These are the questions we are facing:
         - Which are the main implications of this process?
         - Shall we do it in some order? Any steps we should never forget?
         - When we are adding new dimensions, we should do one process for each dimension we create, or we can do the process of the dimension at the end?
         - Do yo know any precaution measures we should take (I mean, copying the database, with what frequency)?
    Thanks in advance

The only key precaution to take is, do this in a development environment, not your production appset.
Secondly, consider making a copy of the original application, and working on the copy -- within the same appset. Depending on how you plan to restructure the dimensionality, you may want to build an empty shell (with no data), map things in a specific way into the new dimensions, and then pump data from the old app to the new app using some *transfer_app logic.
If you take this route, you may also need to create new dimensions for the "old" ones that you plan to slim down. For example, if you have a dimension "KitchenSink" in the existing app, and you want to split it into KitchenSink, Cups, and Plates when you're done -- you may have problems in slimming down KitchenSink, since it'll also mess everything up in the existing app, as soon as you do it. Instead, use three entirely new dimensions Cups, Plates, and NewKitchenSink. Then you can adjust the new stuff without messing up the old stuff, and it helps to keep things straight in your mind -- and in the data -- as you progress through the reorganization.
The main implication of changing an application's dimensionality is that everything else will need to be updated to reflect the newly-added dimensions: reports, input schedules, data management routines, logic, security, etc.
There's a good chance you'll forget something, which you'll only remember when you see that it isn't working. Be prepared in the worst case to just start over, and think through the data migration carefully -- including how you'll port over all these changes to your production environment, once it's been fully tested in Dev.
I can't really be more helpful than that, since there are so many ways that BPC can be customized, and it's all built around the data model & thus the dimensionality. Plan on revising (or at least inspecting) everything.

  • [BPC Excel] User dimension prompt in EvDTSModifyPkg

    Hi there,
In EvDTSModifyPkg your can prompt the user for different dimension type (A, C, R, E, T) or all the application's dimensions (%DIMS% variable).
Is there a way to choose some of the user's dimensions (U1 or U2...) without prompting for the whole set of application dimensions ?
    Thank you
    Pascal

    Hi Alwin,
Unfortunately, it doesn't work as the double marked are removed when you save the package and only the first dimension is kept.
    You write :
PROMPT(SELECT,,,"Please select the members of the following dimensions","CATEGORY,ENTITY,TIME,COSTCENTER")
    After saving
PROMPT(SELECT,,,"Please select the members of the following dimensions",CATEGORY,ENTITY,TIME,COSTCENTER)
    So, only CATEGORY is prompt.
Any idea of the syntax to use ?

  • BPC - Dimension Owner - How to use a Team as a dimension owner

    BPC 7.0 MS
I have a dimension with an OWNER property.  I can define the OWNER property for a dimension member to be a User by using the syntax of:
    <domain name>\<username>
for example, we have an Active Directory domain of CORP and a username of L123456.  I can use
    CORP\L123456
as the OWNER property value and the dimension with process successfully.
I have added a Team in BPC, for example called MyTeam.  I try to set the OWNER for a dimension member to
    MyTeam
and when I process the dimension I get the error that:
"Invalid user or team names found in the OWNER property"
    I also tried these syntaxes:
    BPC\MyTeam
    BPC \MyTeam
These do not work either.  Does anyone know the correct syntax to get this to process properly?

    Carlos,
Thank you for the reply.  That solved my problem.  I used MyTeam enclosed by square brackets
as the value in the OWNER property of the dimension and the dimension processed successfully.
    Thanks.

  • BPC Integration

    Hi,
We are trying to explore different ways in which we can integrate BPC and PPM. One way is data transfer using flatfile. Are there any other ways like web services.
    Please share.
    Diksha.

    Hi Diksha,
There is no direct integration between the BPC and PPM and hence it will be entirely custom development to interface BPC.
PPM is also based on NW will work with BW.
BPC is planning tool and PPM is a tool for project execution and portfolio management. In BPC NW you will have the planned values and PPM you can have the ACTUALS.
Here are few links for PPM:

  • SSTemplate.xlt Error during 'Maintain Dimension Member' in BPC Admin

    Hi,
While trying to 'maintain dimension member' in BPC administrator (BPC 7.0 Netweaver version) for a dimension,I get error message that 'C:\...Temp\SSTemplate.xlt' file could not be found.
Due to this I am unable to maintain members for any dimension.
If anyone has faced this issue and resolved it,could you please me out?
    Thanks in advance,
    Rinal

    Dear Rinal Parmar,
I think that the dimension file which you mean is lose from the directory(the directory which you installed the SAP BPC). If you've backup the Appset before, please you find the dimensian file (.xlt) which is lose in the backup directory. After that, you copy paste into the exactly directory (the directory which you installed the SAP BPC). Then, You should process dimension and process application again.
    Thanks,
    Wandi

  • BPC Xcelsius integration

    Hi All,
I want to know whether BPC 7.0 version supports integration with Xcelsius if it is then how it is doner else  7.5 version only supports full integration.
    Thanks,
    Raghu.

    Hi,
For 7.0 we have an integration with XCelsius but of course we have also some limitation.
You can use the follow HTG from follow link http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BPX/EnterprisePerformanceManagement%28EPM%29How-to+Guides.
This can help you to use XCelsius with SAP BPC 7.0.
Taking in consideration that 7.5 is able to use CMS authentication from BO we can say in 7.5 we have fully integration of SAP BPC 7.5 with Xcelsius and not only with Xcelisus. We ca say we have a fully integration with almost all BO interface like Voyager, Webi.
We prepared an RKT material which will be distributed very soon providing details about integration with BO interface.
I hope this will help you.
