Integration OBI EE - Essbase

Hi
I get an error when viewing a Essbase cube in Answer. I have in metadata the connection to Essbase and I have created Business Model and Mapping and Presentation layers. In Criteria tab of Answer I can view the all dimensions defined in RPD, but when I try to view result the error showed is "State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] There was a general error. Essbase Error (HY000)"
My environment.
My OBIEE Server, version 10.1.3.4.1, on a Linux machine x86. This machine also have installed Oracle EPM Clients 11.1.2 (32 bits). I have set the essbase env variables in user.sh file.
My Essbase Server, version 11.1.2, on a Linux machine, x_86-64. Also this machine have Shared Services, and Report & Analysis.
I appreciate any help with this error.

Hi all...
The problem has been solved, the solution was to install the Essbase version 11.1.1.3, because it is the latest version certified for OBI 10.1.3.4. By doing this the problem was solved.
The oracle support SR 3-205005527 is associated with this solution.

i'm in trouble with OBI and ESSBASE.
My customer decide to BUY OBI (standard edition) for sales report and Essbase for financial analysis.
1) if i want to use a single front end wich one to use? OBI Dashboard or Workspace?
2) for building reporting and analysis OBI and Essbase have similar tools , so what's the best choice?
3) What's the direction of this products? wich tools will be manteined?

IIRC the cube source should be able to handle it if you map the column with 2 sources: unmodified for the DWH and as substr("Cube"."LogCol1" from 0 for "Cube"."LogCol1"-4).

OBI to Essbase Connectivity Problems

We are trying to connect OBI 11.1.1.5 to Essbase 11.1.1.3. We are able to import essbase cubes into the rpd, and even view the members of those cubes while the rpd is in offline mode. When the bi server is brought back up however, every query we run against the new subject results in:

Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).

State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed: [nQSError: 96001] Essbase Error (HY000)
This error is hardly specific enough (yes I have checked the manuals) for us to troubleshoot the issue. In addition this rather large problem we did notice that we are unable to view the members of the essbase cubes in the rpd when the rpd is opened in online mode. Is this significant? Our OBI install is pointing to an 11.1.1.5 essbase client file - is this also a problem (since the client file is newer than the version of essbase that we are running)?
We have tried everything we can think of to get this to work. Any help anyone could offer would be greatly appreciated.

We are facing the same issue, just that our OBI version is 11.1.1.6.2 (BP1 patch applied) fetching cube from Essbase 11.1.1.2.1. I tried many approaches but none of them worked.
Were you able to address this issue? If yes could you pls give us any pointer.
Any help on this is highly appreciated, since we have go-live in few days.
Problem in nutshell: Am able to import the cube from in offline & even in online mode. But able to see data only in offline mode but not in the online mode.
In Online mode, am trying to connect to the rpd hosted on IBM AIX 64 bit mode OS, where as in offline mode, am accessing the local rpd.

LDAP Authentication in Siebel integrated OBI

Hi, We have OBI integrated in Siebel through Symbolic URL. We want to implement LDAP Authentication in OBI. Can anybody tell me the high level steps on the Siebel side which we need to do for supporting LDAP Authentication.

in call interface dropdown list in connection pool, I can only see ODBC, OCI and XML.

Depending on the version you're using, you should see the option to Import from Multidimensional. I think it should be under the File menu.

Not able to get Essbase Server list in Office with Smart View 11.1.2.1

Anybody tried Shared Connection in Smart View 11.1.2.1? I am able to connect to but it does not show any servers in the non editable drop-down box. I tried this with Office 2003 sp3, Office 2007 and office 2010 but none of them is working. Also i tried to find out the datasourse.xml file in LWS-aps in shared services console but its not there. i tried the solution given on this link also but the datasourse.xml file is not in place.

i'm connecting to Essbase through this URL http://<server>:19000/workspace/SmartViewProviders . it shows the login window and allow me to get in. but the drop down box is empty. no server listed.
Please let me know what I'm missing.

I checked,"http://<servername>:13080/aps/SmartView" Analytic Provider Services also running.
instead of Server name i tried localhost, ip address, and computer name.
but still not getting anything in drop down, even "Add New Server" Option also.
I thought this may be because Analytic Provider Services was configured after Shared Services. But for that i followed the steps:
1. Stop the Analytic Provider Server and Foundation Services.
2. Open the EPM System Configurator through Start -> All Programs -> Oracle EPM System -> Foundation Services -> EPM System Configurator.
3. Expand Hyperion Foundation and only tick the option 'Deploy to Application Server'
4. Click Next through the Configurator until complete.
5. Restart the Foundation and Analytic Provider Server Services.
6. Open Excel, connect to the Shared Connections.
But problem Continuous.

Thanks for taking a look, I fear you may have hit the nail on the head, as I mention we are reporting on this using OBIEE, so we have imported the cube (BSO) into our OBI repository, OBI flattens the cube to make it look like a star schema it doesn't recognise the Accounts dimension correctly so we have to set it to be of type 'Other' after we have imported it, otherwise none of the figures in the Accounts dimension are actually reported (you can see the members but when included in a query no data is returned).
Another issue we found was that OBIEE appeared to substitute the name 'Measures' for Accounts when building the query, so we made 'Measures' the default alias for the Accounts dimension, to add to the issue I probably should have mentioned that the aggregation rule in OBIEE for this fact column has been set to SUM rather than External_Agg, but Oracle support have previously indicated that this is OK to do. The issue originally arose because we wanted to extend on of our dimensions with additional attributes stored in a SQL database table.
Sorry it is all a bit messy, the whole OBI with Essbase as a source is still relatively new, and it looks like there may be a few things for the mighty O to iron out, I posted this in here because the OBIEE forum has no posts with similar issues, so thanks for your help so far and anything else you can add.

Essbase Studio and Drill Through

I have created a ASO application in essbase studio through text data source and succesfuly deployed it to essbase server but in smartview and spreadsheet add in drill through reports are not reflecting.
Standard SQL is also not generating while creating drill through reports.
Error:
Error in the statement interpret. Line = 1657.
Error in the make select statement. Line = 1.
Unable to join filter to the rest of the query. Terminating operation...
This is EPM 11.1.2.0.00 on windows 2008 64 bit
Any help?

you are right in saying that drill-through is not available for txt data at least in Studio and Integration ..
Essbase provides URL-based drill-through access from Essbase client reporting interfaces (such as Smart View or Oracle Hyperion Financial Reporting, Fusion Edition) to information located on Oracle Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications and Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) applications.
In Integration Services and Essbase Studio documentation, drill-through refers to linking a multidimensional database cell to further data; for example, to transaction-level data that is stored in a relational source.

I still have some queries as Iam a new bee in Integration as well:
1. The creation of relational tables (during application creation) - does that mean the integration to any ERP source is easier because now ERP tables and Hyperion tables can talk to each other rather than integrating it via Essbase outline load structure?
2. ERPI tool will automate the integration process with less dependency on ODI Expert?
3. Will the account dimension outline load members will be stored as a relational table to integrate with ERP CoA?
4. Do we have any visionary enhancements in HFM as well?

I installed relational database(ORACLE) and Essbase in seperate machine.
Then i created the DSN name in Oracle Installed Machine.
I mentioned that DSN name in Integration Services Console [Essbase Installed Machine], after doing this i get following Error.

Did u configure EIS to Essbase server? and did u see essbase server Services is running ?
Once u confirm above steps
Try to Check the Network Connectivity between the Server and Client Machines by using the commands:
* telnet
* ping
Using ping:
On Client Machine, open a Windows command prompt.
1. Type the Command:
C:\>ping <Server_Machine_IP Address>
2. Press "Enter" key which should return Ping Statistics with all Packets Sent. This confirms if there is Network Connectivity.
Using telnet:
On Client Machine, open a Windows command prompt.
1. Type the Command:
C:\>telnet <Server_Machine_IP Address>
2. Press "Enter" key which should return either an error or an open telnet session with the requested server. This confirms if there is Network Connectivity.
try checking these ..Hope this helps to show ur connectivity between ur client and server

Cache size in cfg file& design aggregations

Iam working in ASO for 11vny we are in production getting so many bugs
plz can any on e tell me that
wen they generate the reports its taking long time for many crossings, and for some reports its giving eror in OBI through essbase
as per the doc refering

I am doing design aggregation but not using by default option iam usingsecond option design, meterialise and save aggregation
so how can i do this using maxl
iam using a maxl
execute aggregate process on database
but wen we use second option we have to save and we have to mention the size , i think this maxl will not work second option,

Authenticate OID

Trying to set up ldap authentication using our existing OID/OIM system. We do not use groups tp group users, but rather use Organizational Units as out users containers. specifically I have <base>DN>/INTERNAL/OBI as the ou that contains users authenticating to OBI. This has worked in OBI 10G, but now we want to move to 11G, not as an upgrade but as a new installation and continue to use our existing OID. Reading documentation about integrating OBI to OID I see that groups need to be set up and mapped to weblogic in order to connect to OID. Can I use existing organizational units for my groups and map them to the Weblogic groups?

Yes. you have to create organizational units as groups in web logic server. in 11g security configuration and administration is held in web logic server so integrate OID with obiee web logic server. read obiee 11g documentation for more information.

MS SQL Licensing Requirements for use with EIS

Does anybody know what the licensing requirements are for MS SQL to use it with Integration Services and Essbase? We have a couple of small apps that I want to start using with EIS/Essbase/Analyzer. My procurement department is telling me that I need to buy a SQL license for each server processor, because I am web-enabling data that's in SQL. Anyone have any info on this? Thanks!

That is really a MS question. But I do know pretty much how MS licensing works. If you decided to get processing based licensing, it is based on the processors on the machine where SQL is installed - NOT the number of processors of machines that will be accessing it. The repositories for EIS and Analyzer is 'minimal'. You can (should) install SQL on a single processor box and have both EIS/Analyzer use it.However, if you do install it on the Essbase box (which can be faster), you would have to secure a license equal to the number of processors on that box.If you do put it on a separate box, make sure you SA puts it 'close' to the Essbase/EIS/Analyzer box to limit network trafic.Rich [email protected]
