Integration of DisplayTag and ADF?

hi,
Is it possible to integrate DisplayTag with ADF bindings? What would be the best approach?

DisplayTag is a popular tag library (implements View Helper design pattern) used in Struts applications (and possibly others frameworks too, not sure about JSF, i.e. it is a component being the JSP tag, but probably not JSF component). It is similar to ADF table but has some features missing from ADF like Export-toExcel etc. I know there are workarounds in ADF for Export-to-Excel, but with DisplayTag no workaround is needed, you just download it and put in project classpath. The tag itself expects certain lists of Value and Label beans in session or request etc. scopes and binds them with GUI attributes. Usually these lists of beans are prepared in Struts "setup" actions before JSP page containing DisplayTag is rendered.
Would it be possible to have a JSP fragment with display tag in it inside a facet as part of ADF page? The question is how to bind/prepare these lists of beans for display tag? I am not familiar with ADF so I do not know if managed bean can be used or some kind of ADF value binding?

  • Integration between OAF and ADF

    Hi,
We have a requirement where we have to call ADF page as a region in OAF page.
We are able to deploy ADF application on Web logic server and call them as a standalone application in OAF using "Function and Menu".
Also, I understand that ADF and OAF interaction back and forth is not possible. ATG seems to be working on this for handling session management.
However, I need to understand if there is any mechanism by which ADF pages can be embedded in OAF page as a region and work as a normal application in Oracle Ebiz Suite?
It seems that OAF Rich Interface allows embedding ADF pages in OAF.
    Appreciate some guidance on this.

    Hi YJ,
Yes, we (ATG) are still working on session management between OA Framework and Oracle ADF, as well as other features of the Oracle E-Business Suite SDK for Java. Stay tuned for an announcement on Steven Chan's blog at https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan when that becomes available. My Oracle Support Note 974949.1 will be updated with further information at that time.
Embedding an Oracle ADF region in an OA Framework page requires, at a minimum, that you create an EBS function security function for your ADF page and add a richContainer item to your OA Framework page that calls the function. You may need session management features depending on what you are trying to do with it. We haven't worked out all the nuances yet for more specific guidelines, sorry.
    Thanks,
    Sara

  • BPM and ADF integration - some questions

    Hi,
I have a few questions about comunication between BPM 11.1.1.5 and Human Task based Task Flow:
    1) What is the best way to pass data (task id, proces id, proces data) from BPM workspace to Human Task Task Flow (and get them as TF params).
    2) Where can I find a description, how ADF app comunicates with BPM process.
    3) Where can I find a description of all data controls created by JDeveloper (BPM Suite) when HT Task Flow is created.
    3) Where can I find a description (and their functionality) of managed beans created by JDeveloper (BPM Suite) when HT Task Flow is created.
    Kuba

    Hi,
Sory, but I'm still not sure, how ADF comunicates with BPM (I know that it uses EJB services and hwtaskflow.xml). But a still don't have an answers for follwowing questions:
    1) I know ADF quite good. Having method in data controls (in our case getTaskDetails()) we need to invoke it somehow. I don't see anywher invokation of this method.
    2) In generated task flow there is some managed beans and params - what is role of them ? Having over 50 task flows , do I need it in all of them. Where can I find description of those beans and params
    3) In our approach we use BPM , ADF RC for UI and Business Components to persist data into database. Only data from payload we need is ID of master-level row. My question is - do I have to generate data controls for all human task ?. In my my opinion it should be only one communication point between BPM and ADF but not the same for all pair human task --> task flow.
All infomation I need from BPM is:
    - task ID
    - task flow name (to open apriopriate tab in my application)
    - available outcomes
    - to know is BPM operation is enabled

The report which you are trying to execute, can you see the security over there. I doubt that the security is creating a issue here while there is no relation between the BI version and ADF version.
ADF call BI using webservice only, and webservice does not have any version specific things.

The concept could still work with JInitiator, but you loose the functionality to eliminate the Forms applet startup time when navigating between ADF Faces pages with and without Oracle Forms forms embedded.
For this functionality to work, you would have to make the switch to Sun JVM 1.4.2 (or 1.5.0).
So, you still require a Java virtual machine to run the applet on the client side, but it should be Sun JVM to get the best result. The integration between Oracle Forms and ADF Faces (or UIX, PHP, etc.) is all client-side based on a JavaScript interface between the hosting web page and the Forms applet. This is a feature that can be added to existing Forms versions as I explain in the papers. It's also a feature that is planned for the next release of Forms (version 11g). So, with Forms version 11g there is no need to extend the Forms applet yourself to add this JavaScript API.

  • Would like to ask about Pros&Cons betwwen Oracle Forms, OAF and ADF

    Hi,
Is there some material about the pros&cons between Oracle Forms, OAF and ADF, from angles like technical architecture, performance, network efficiency, etc...
Asking this becuase EBS cusotmer is familiar with Oracle Forms and OAF, when we talking about ADF to them, it is quite confused especially about OAF and ADF, finding material to elaborate these 3 technology clearly, thanks
    - Liang Yi

Thanks, I check the comparison of OAF and ADF document downloaded from Oracle Support, but it is for ADF10g, I believe ADF11g is much better, and anyone check the comparison table between ADF 10g and OAF R12 would choose OAF.
And, from the document, I saw one line that is very confused, check it out, do not understand what does it mean with "if your application does not need to integrate with EBS... ... you should use ... ... integration with EBS" -_-!
"If your application does not need to integrate with the
E-Business Suite, or doesn't require any of the E-Business Suite-specific
capabilities enumerated above, you should use ADF 10g with SOA based
    integration with E-Business Suite."

  • Is there any template (decoration) feature in Jdeveloper and ADF faces ?

    Hi
Thank you for reading my post
is there any template / decoration facilities in Jdeveloper for ADF faces ?
for example there are some part of my web pages which are allways the same and i need to show them where ever the user is in my we application (for example a left panel contain latest emails) how i can have this feature ?
    Thanks

    HI!
Facelets works very well with Oracle ADF faces ,but to get a partial support from IDE(JDeveloper) , you have to build pages in jspx format, and not in xhtml format.
We are using facelets with absolutely no problem; the only hitch is that we have add all our ADF Faces components to a jpx page and then embed Facelets tags to it,for JDdeveloper does not add components to /in between Facelets tags, which is an improvement to be made, and Mr.Frank has informed me that this(Facelets support in JDeveloper) is filed as an enhancement request for the next version of JDeveloper.
Anyway, I can assure you that you can work with Facelets and ADF faces with absolutely no problems,at all;the only thing is you need to struggle some time getting the Facelets configured for ADF Faces!
Actually, I planned to write an article on accomlishing this(integrating facelets and ADF Faces),but presently I'm preoccupied with some other imoprtant task, so I'm afraid may not be able to provide the article inthis week.

  • ADF table and ADF form on the same view object

    Hi,
As per the ADF demos available on ADF site, I created a jsf page with 2 panels. One panel is an ADF table based on a view object. And the other panel is and ADF form based on the same view object. My requirement is that as I scroll through the records in the ADF table, the ADF Form should dynamically display the details of the record in the ADF table. My understanding is that this should be automatic. However, its not working as expected. What have I missed?

  • JDev and ADF is difficult

As a new user to ADF I am finding ADF and JDev a little discouraging and hard to use. I did a search on how to improve jdev's performance and found a lot of useful tips and tricks to use, but I pose the question. Shouldn't it just work out of the box? Coming from a web 2.0 background developing EE applications using Spring, JPA/Hibernate, Extjs, and netbeans I keep thinking to myself wow how in the world should I have known that changing this or that table attribute causes this or that to behave differently. For example I read a thread on multi-selecting table rows and in this article multiselect selectedRowKeys must be removed for multi select to perform correctly. Now I realize this is a simple example, but I find myself asking the same types of questions about dragging and dropping views into jdev or mapping bindings to pages so that I can gain access to data. I can relate to some angry posts by some about how difficult it is to develop anything useful in JDev and ADF because of a series of random problems (things like running OOM, or mapping bindings to a page which then for some reason map incorrectly or they think they are mapped to another page, etc...) Now I can already hear the first response... you are new to this world (yes) and you just need time. What if I told you I've been reading so much documentation over the past month that my eyes are bleeding. I've been through countless tutorials on how to use JDev and ADF. I've successfully created "Sample applications" generating useless tables of data. I've read several books on ADF and how to button click my way to creating EE applications, but I find the memorization of button clicking to be exhausting. I keep telling my boss I want to go back to writing code not dragging and dropping items on a page so that JDev can generate/modify .xml files for me.
Now that said I know I am new to this world and I'm trying to find some common ground as my job requires me to develop EE applications in ADF, and I must learn this technology. So I ask all of you ADF and JDev advocates prove me wrong here and point me to the documentation that all of you use to navigate this world of yours.
    Thanks for your understand,

First off thank you for the response Shay!
    >
Getting used to the way you build applications with JDev and ADF takes time, but think how much time did it took you to learn Spring, JPA, ExtJS etc to a level where you knew every little setting you needed to manually code in a spring XML file, or JPQL query syntax in your JPA or a javascript in ExtJS - My guess was that getting to a situation where you know everything in those technology wasn't exactly a problem less experience.
    >
It is true it took some time to learn the technologies listed above. I guess If I were arguing for them I would say they were easier to use and learn due to most of them being open source and very popular because of this (i.e tons of examples, books, and documentation). Not sure if ADF is there yet?
    >
I do like the fact that I can get from 0 to a fully functional page with a few clicks here and there, and then fine tune the results with some property settings in various places.
And then if I need even further customization I can go to the code level when needed.
    >
I agree it takes very little time to create something that is at least visually usable. I'm not familiar enough ADF yet to determine now hard it is to actually create a fully functioning application that does more than display data. For example, how would I create a visualization that updates every 10 seconds and allows users to post feedback in a similar manner to this forum?
    >
The question of whether the declarative and visual development experience is a good thing or not is to some degree a matter of personal preferences.
I wonder how long would it have taken someone to build something like this: http://download.oracle.com/otn_hosted_doc/jdeveloper/11gdemos/ADF112/ADF112.html
with the stack you mentioned above. How many lines of code would they have needed to write, how many syntax errors while coding, and would the result be as functional so fast.
    >
Agree I'm not hear to argue which type of development experience is better or worse. I would point out however that as a JDev/ADF developer in order to develop in the technology it seems you must do most of your development within the JDev environment or have extensive experience in JSF (i.e know which xml files to edit and why I believe there is a reason JSF and JSP are seldom used IMHO because they are difficult. I understand JDev/ADF try to solve this problem) were as in other technologies you as the developer can choose the IDE etc. Another thing I noticed while watching the link you listed was the developer went from place to place to place within jdev making changes. As a newbie it seems that in order to develop ADF in JDev you must just "know things" (ie. for example he pulled in a method in to the task flow so he could invoke some validation or prereq check. As a developer how am I to know how and where and why I can/must do these things? ADF seems to be process based in order to achieve some goal, but the JDev framework gives no clues as to what you should/need to do next. As well as that I needed to create that method within my Application Module in order to do this, which by the way was not mentioned within this video.).
    >
We often see the reaction of "I don't get what all those XML files that JDev generate are doing" reaction from people who just start up with JDev and ADF.
But we do try and explain how everything is working in places like the ADF Insider Advanced seminars:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/adfinsider-093342.html
I think the fact that there is a lot of documentation for ADF, and a lot of blog entries, how-to's etc on the web is actually a good thing.
I often find that if I run into an issue with ADF - a simple google search will show me how someone else solved that issue - and I like this too.
    >
I guess my biggest gripe here would be yes there is tons of JDev/ADF documentation on OTN and other places, but none of it is complete, and I would also argue that the organization on OTN is half hazard, and makes learning ADF difficult as well. I find myself drilling down through layers and layers of links only to not be able to get back to were I came from to look at another topic/tutorial I was interested in(maybe we need a ADF train to be added to the documentation wikis).
I would also argue when developing in other frameworks writing the xml is a big part to understanding how your application is tied together. For example, Spring servlet mapping or Spring injection mapping. When JDev does the mapping for me I feel that I know less and less about how my application works and I bet all the advanced ADF developers out there know quite a bit about how ADF xml mapping occurs and why, and I bet they make changes to these xml files manually quite often to get things to work as they desire?
I want to be clear here I am not trying to flaming here, just trying to make a difference for other developers like myself who come along and need to learn ADF to complete some task. Looking at the OTN site I believe creating documentation for ADF development appears to be a top priority, but due to the complexity of the framework there is just so much and it seems to be everywhere. My suggestion would be to include why we are doing such and such with in jdev approach instead of a drag this here to do this approach. For example, I'd like to see a tutorial where it explains when you drag this item in to the content window it creates this xml bind which is the same as what you would normally do in JSF like this (if anyone knows of such a tutorial plz link).
Again thanks for the reply, and I encourage others to give feedback and suggestions on how I too can become a better JDev/ADF developer.

I use CS3 Suite. It is a big trouble for me in working on
real pages. Integration is broken in somewhere else and after that
point it becomes impossible to work on Fireworks through
    Dreamweaver.
I've made test to show this trouble and I narrowed the
problem to the pictures as shown in the figures below,
    1) In figure one I am creating a completely new Fireworks
file as arrow.png with two frames and one slice in it. After I am
saving it as .png I am exporting it as .html with images in /images
    subfolder.
    2) After saving and closing the file in Fireworks, in figure
two, I am opening the html in Dreamweaver and changing the page
properties by writing zeros to page margins and by changing the
    default font.
-----I guess in this point something happens which breaks the
    integration between FW and DW--------because;
    3) In figure three I am opening the .png through Dreamweaver
(by "Edit") and changes the place and size of the slice a little
    bit
    4) When I press Done in Fireworks I see this picture in
figure four in Dreamweaver which shows integration between FW and
DW about table structure is broken. (In this point if I add any
behaviur to the slice DW doesn't recognize it, or any other change
in FW can not be recognized by DW)
    5) In order to show this broken integration in table
sturucture, I am putting a new slice to png when Editing from DW in
    FW.
    6) When I click on Done in DW I see this picture on the
figure six. Beacuse FW doesn't have any effect on html's table

I can reproduce your results, but I don't consider this a
    bug; just a
    limitation of Roundtrip editing.
You can't add or change slices without re-exporting the html
    from
Fireworks. Roundtrip is for image editing, not for altering
    the table
structure. If I edit, and re-export, my table remains intact.
If you want to edit the slices and resulting html, open the
    PNG file
independently of Dreamweaver, change your slices and images
    and then
choose File > Update HTML (this option is not available
    when in
Roundtrip mode). FW will ask you to locate the html file.
    When located,
you will have the options of
Replace Images and Their HTML - replaces the previous
    Fireworks HTML.
Update Images Only - overwrites only the images.
As an aside, the rigid table created by FW is rarely
    desirable for a
    production web site.

  • Integration with JBoss and OpenLDAP

    Hello All
Please bear with me as I try to pose my questions as clearly as possible given that I'm new to JDeveloper and ADF. I have a client who is looking to develop an application that will be used to monitor and maintain batch processes for a third-party compliance tool that currently does not offer any type of batch scheduling functionality. They are looking to develop and maintain one that is accessible by a handful of users that currently maintain the compliance tool.
The compliance tool is deployed on a JBoss technology stack and the application itself authenticates against and OpenLDAP server.
The goal is to develop an web-based application using JDeveloper that can be deployed as a WAR file to their existing JBoss infrastructure. When accessing the appropriate URL for this tool, it would first present them with a login screen. The credentials entered by the user would then be validated against their OpenLDAP server to determine the level of access granted in the batch monitoring utility.
Can this be accomplished using JDeveloper and ADF? I believe I came across this article that walks on through the deployment of an ADF 11g application to JBoss: http://blogs.oracle.com/jruiz/2009/01/deploying_an_adf_11g_applicati.html
However, I can seem to find a good article or tutorial on how to properly interface with OpenLDAP. Am I correct in assuming that I must develop my own login component to handle this authentication?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Trinidad and ADF Rich Faces components::

    Hi!
Does someone know about any problem while using Trinidad and ADF Rich Faces, or just the Trinidad components in JDev11g ?
    Thanx.

    Endy,
ADF Faces RC isn't supported in IE6, so that certainly wasn't the issue. I have inadvertently mixed Trinidad and ADF Faces RC components on a page and didn't run into issues, but I did correct that issue based upon comments from Frank/Shay on the forum. Bottom line is that while they may work (or appear to work) together, it's not a supported combination.
